I’m not going to recount everything that happened Saturday in Charlottesville, Virginia, because the details are being updated constantly. We do know that the Unite The Right protest and the Antifa counter-protest turned into brawls and riots, which might have been planned (there was a report that some counter-protesters brought weapons, although fortunately not guns – one blogger compared it to a “rumble.”) The ACLU confirmed that as the violence escalated, the police were ordered to stand down for some reason that begs investigation. And worst of all, one woman is dead and at least a dozen more people injured after a 20-year-old Ohio man believed to be a white supremacist sympathizer drove a car into a crowd of counter-protesters. He’s been charged with murder, malicious wounding and hit-and-run. He should also be charged with an act of domestic terrorism and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

But before we discuss the aftermath, let’s talk about something that seems irrelevant, but is not at all. Back in the 1940s, a new technology swept America’s kitchens: the pressure cooker. In those pre-microwave days, pressure cookers were a miracle. They cooked food faster and with less energy because the heat couldn’t escape. Instead, a lid was clamped down tight. All the steam that might have been blown off if the system was open was instead held in. As the heat rose, with no way to vent it, so did the pressure. Under pressure, things get hotter and hotter. It was a great way to cook food, but there was one drawback: at the first crack or weak spot, there was a very real danger that the whole thing could explode like a bomb. Today’s pressure cookers have safety features to prevent that, but if ignored, the results can still be deadly. Recall that the Boston Marathon bombings were carried out with pressure cookers.

Over the past few years, several small but loud factions of society have been trying to turn America from an open system into a pressure cooker, and the explosions of rage and violence in Berkeley, Dallas, Charlottesville and other places are the result. The Founders knew that there would always be clashing ideas, and the best way to deal with them was a free marketplace where everyone could express and defend his views, and the best would be adopted while inferior ideas were exposed and rejected. America hasn’t always gotten things right, but thanks to free and open debate, we have consistently gotten things better.

Unfortunately, in recent years, we’ve seen a dangerous trend toward clamping down the lid on the free marketplace of ideas. Places that were once bastions of unfettered debate, such as college campuses and the Internet, are now rigidly policed to silence any ideas not approved by self-appointed authorities. Americans who don’t toe a particular line have not only been driven from the public square, even their private conversations make them targets for the thought police, if they’re caught in surveillance by a leaky intelligence agency or overheard by an overzealous busybody. It’s not enough that any opinions that vary from the “approved” line be silenced, but those who dare express them, even thoughtfully and anonymously, must be ferreted out, exposed, threatened, publicly shamed, bankrupted and fired.

I don’t say all this to try to shift blame for what happened in Charlottesville. The people who started this are vile, hateful racists and should be condemned in the strongest terms. But it’s not a coincidence that violent extremist groups are suddenly popping up all around us. They’re a symptom of a larger problem. They are the weak spots that turn dangerous when the pressure gets too high and too hot. Violent extremist movements have always drawn their numbers from those who think they have no voice. When you take away the free marketplace of ideas, it creates a breeding ground for their recruitment.

But why should people be allowed to express bad ideas? Because when they express them in the open, they have to defend them. Maybe they can be reasoned into seeing the error of their ways. In fact, that’s a large part of the history of America: bad ideas that used to be taken for granted are now seen as abhorrent, because good ideas won out. We used to be a nation where people who disagreed could sit down over a beer, have a spirited discussion, and maybe end up by seeing things from the other person’s perspective. Ban the open discussion, tell some people their perspective is invalid and they have no right to express it, and you’ll end up with a barroom brawl instead.

In light of the tragedy in Charlottesvlle, President Trump issued this initial statement: “We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides. On many sides.” He was immediately blasted by politicians, the media and celebrities for not singling out just the white nationalists for condemnation. But at that point, it wasn’t entirely clear what had happened. What was he supposed to do, leap to a conclusion that might fire up the conflict even more, only to have it turn out to be incorrect, the way President Obama did with Ferguson, Missouri?

Trump later issued a stronger statement specifically condemning white separatist and neo-Nazi groups and calling on Americans to end the violence, stop exploiting divisions and come together to concentrate on the positive things we have in common. This statement, very similar to a statement once made by Barack Obama under similar circumstances, was greeted by more attacks from leftwing politicians, media figures and celebrities, some of whom blamed Trump directly for violent racists in Charlottesville and claimed that they represent the entire Republican Party. Jesse Watters on Fox News illustrated the double standard with a montage of clips, showing many of these same people insisting that the angry Bernie Sanders supporter who shot Rep. Steve Scalise and tried to slaughter Republicans at a charity baseball practice in no way represented the Democratic Party.

Commentary continues below advertisement

And they were right. I absolutely believe that the deranged shooter and the black-masked rioters who shut down free speech at UC-Berkeley are not representative of the approximately 96 million registered voters who identify as Democrats, any more than I believe that the racist idiot who ran down people with a car or a small group of white supremacists represent the views of 88 million registered voters who identify as Republican. They are two opposite extremes that exploded when the political pressure cooker got turned up too high.

We should all be doing everything we can to reduce the heat, release the pressure, let the steam out and open up the system to more dialogue and discussion between people of different backgrounds and viewpoints. But when people in positions of public trust respond to violence, division and hatred with even more heated, divisive rhetoric, seeking not to put out the fires of rage but to pour gasoline on them, they should be well and truly ashamed of themselves.

    Governor Huckabee;

Yesterday I was reading posts at some other websites and one person replied "I'm running out of places to go to that tells the truth . . . ". I suggested that they check out your website and read your newsletters. For me, reading your newsletters is what keeps me sane, what keeps me from going into deep depression (with the help of meds.), and keeps me grounded because you are telling the truth; something the lame stream news outlets knows nothing of.
Keep up the good work and may God bless you and keep you safe.

I still say it takes two to fight! I feel that had that demonstration by the 'white supremacists?' had been ignored by everyone, they would have faded into their dark little world, and stayed a small group. More people need to read the history of the Soviet Union/Russia and Nazi Germany and watch the so called Antifa. another stupid acronym like Acorn. It is amazing how much the 'Antifa' looks like the start of those two entities.

20-year-old Ohio man believed to be a white supremacist sympathizer, was a democrat, Hillary Clinton supporter, and member of antifa. This was a false flag event planned long in advance.

This link contains the Faith Goldy video that was removed from YouTube almost as fast as it was uploaded, and shows BLM protesters wearing masks and making trouble. This also contains the crash and is very graphic.

This link shows and backs up the involvement of left wing officials posing as alt right and as bystanders. Evidence of a cover up and Soros funding proven. Accusations backed up and linked throughout the article.

May The Lord bless you and keep you, May He make His Face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, may He turn His face toward you and give you peace.

You are doing what I and my business partner Ken Gardner are being directed to do as well, that is to help bring our country back to our founding fathers roots and ideas, (minus their many mistakes of course).

Please look at and on a google search, (via duckduckgo of course) see the May 2005 press conference done by our president. Just put in both their name in that search.

The Twin Towers will be going up again for the Glory of Jesus Christ.

Keep up the great work my brother in Christ.

Donald Trump's what is good for this nation. I feel like the left want to break this country in half. Let's face it, divided we fall. A house divided will not stand. It's what those who want to destroy this nation are doing by causing division. Believers must pray for truth and unity. We are the only nation standing in the way of a one world order that will usher in the Antichrist and the mark of the beast. This generation not even aware that this is the plan. Evil is creeping all over the world. There are breaking down family by design.

I hear very little about the 1 party that apparently had a permit to protest the removal of a historical monument in Charlottesville, VA. All the attention appears to be focused on the "other" parties that showed up without permits. I find it extremely suspicious that these "other" parties were even knowledgeable about the permitted event in sufficient time to organize and cause so much disruption, chaos and injury, one fatal. Someone like a mole or something systemic (hack) is passing sufficiently advanced information to allow organization, financing, travel and staging because it can't just be coincidental. All of us suspect the who and which organizations are involved. My question is where is law enforcement and why are these organizations allowed to function with seeming impunity? Surely, at a minimum, Title 18 of the United States Code, has provisions for dealing with such atrocities. The other issue is how dare that government officials at any level of government (local, state or federal) support the "other" parties and, on their minority behalf, advocate for the removal/destruction of HISTORY!!!

  • James Barnett

    08/17/2017 09:34 AM

Of the 3 parties represented here, only 1 had a permit to protest, the group trying to defend American History, by protecting monuments! The other 2 groups that showed up uninvited and in violation of City ordinance, BLM (with riot gear) and the White Supremacists (With Racism), started and continued all the violence! The first two days of Protest had no violence, only on the third day when these two groups got bussed in did violence break out! Both of these groups are Democrat front groups, one from its sorted racial past and the other a new creation of the Democratic Regressive Fascist party USA, as BLM was created by Democrats and paid by democrats and anti American George Soros organizations! You and the President are right on this one Mike, so please keep bringing us the Truth, as this is very similar to the Edicts of Islamic Sharia!

I believe all these demonstrations are financed by an America hater, George Soros. It actually started with Saul Alinsky who was a mentor to Obama and Clinton so we had actually 8 years of building his (Alinsky's) philosophy which is violence to get what you want. Soros is now financing these violent acts. America is a great country, but there are those who want to take it down to submission and unless the Republican Party starts to denounce what is happening and does something about it, we are in deep trouble. Once freedom of speech becomes violent, it no longer is freedom and needs to be contained. You wouldn't want someone coming into your house to talk to you and have it turn into smashing your furniture; you would be calling the police to have him/her arrested.

As a native of Charlottesville, I'm appalled at the violence of the past weekend. The opposing groups imported bodies from Richmond, Washington, and even NYC, as well as southern cities. Why? Who's the money behind them? I expect George Soros had a lot to do with it, and possibly on both sides! He needs to be stopped because he's trying to kill our country. Investigate him, arrest him...STOP HIM! I hear people talking about how he's financing all this, but with the exception of Mr. Putin, no one is saying anything about how he does this and gets away with it???? As far as the pressure cookers; let's put democrats and media hacks in one, and see if their heads explode! LOL Thanks for letting me rant!

Thank you so much for your voice in this crazy world! It means even more because you speak as a Christian. I remember a pastor's advice when trying to talk to someone about the gospel. If you feel as if the person is trying to back you into a corner, ask a question. I wonder if this could be helpful for Trump when he is dealing with the fake news reporters. Instead of taking questions, let him as the questions! For example: Is it right for one group in this Charlottesville tragedy to protest without a permit? Is it wrong for Black Lives Matter to march against our police officers and call for "dead cops"? Why didn't any of you reporters or the Republicans in the swamp call for Trump to specifically call out white hate groups? Should Robert Byrd's name be removed from every building, highway, etc. in West Virginia, because of his affiliation with the KKK? The list could go on and on. I wonder how the spin would develop if Trump asked his list of questions and left the room!!!!

Well said Mr. Huckabee and unfortunately so very true. Right now, Obama, Soros, Clinton and the Democrats are more interested in adding fuel to the fire of hatred for our President that doing anything positive to help our country become a better place. Obama did his job of dividing this country very well and Trump is suffering because of his work. I just pray that eventually our "representatives" (ha) in the government are exposed for their self serving behavior and we can come together to support our President and this once great country.

I totally agree with you!! If it hadn't been for that murderer to have killed that poor woman this whole thing would have been a nothing event!! Now, the opposite of what the crazy alt-left wanted is happening! Everyone is clamoring for anything Confederate to be torn down and even our founding fathers like Jefferson and Washington are being threatened! These things are becoming issues instead of what is really important!! We just almost had a war with North Korea!! We still are trying to iradicate ISIS! We still need health care and tax reform!! Our schools need help! We need jobs! My tremendously talented daughter has been out of work since her university laid her off!! There are people out here who need help!! Why worry about small footnotes in the past history of this country when we need to concentrate on our real problems!!!
    Thank you!

    08/16/2017 11:35 AM

Mr. Huckabee, I am waiting to see what your voice will be about the President's latest rant! The president was right on the fact there was hate involved on both sides. Myself being a black American am disappointed with the taking down of American history. Taking down these symbols of our past whether right or wrong it does not erase what has happened. These are symbols that should be taught to all kids, to show where we were and where we are now. But to continue to remove these articles of history only distort our future, like it never happened! Instead of tearing down, we should be building monuments, in the same place. For example MLK "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal", or The Kennedys or anyone that is for rights for all. Make something positive out the negativity! Robert E. Lee was a Christian that relied heavily on GOD that he prayed for all men! The times he lived in had laws and rules and as a General he had to follow what was directed to win the war. Even now when any President orders war, the General may not totally agree or even agree at all with the orders, Robert E. Lee followed the orders and prayed for his enemies. Actually they could have built a monument for any of his prayers and placed it in the same location and we would probably be discussing the atheists wanting to take it down because of separation of church and state. Everyone is offended and Jesus said that people would be offended. It's time to stop this nonsense and move forward! History cannot be changed, but it should be taught. People are worried about North Korea but what will destroy America is America! Brother Huckabee May GOD Bless You and America! We cannot be great without GOD!!

Wonderful analysis. One thing that I might add is that this violence is also the result of the slavery of Relativism that Poisons our country. Particularly many of our young people who have been taught that they are the arbiters of truth and that there is no real objective truth. The denial of objective Truth and the Christ who is that Truth leaves them with no way to know the real truth. If everyone has the right to determine their own subjective truth we are left with no way to measure truth except the old adage that "might makes right". So these people shout louder and use increasingly violent means to impose their subjective opinions upon the rest of us as a replacement for real Truth.

As a white person whose ancestors came here in 1727, among them indentured servants who served "a master" for seven years in order to pay for their passage to this country; whose generations fought and died and lived for this country. I would like to suggest that those who do not love, respect and accept the principles, upon which this country is founded, should simply LEAVE.

Is and has the United States without error, mistakes, wrong decisions? Certainly NOT, no more so than any man is without sin...because America is made of men and mankind is sinful, always needing a Savior.

Should these wrongdoings be corrected? By all means. But, when we say "wrongdoings", we mean acts that were against either God's law or this country's laws, either purposefully or in error of judgment or in the faulty implementation thereof. All fair and moral men should be able to agree upon that.

However, when a faction exists, which is attempting to overturn the foundational principles of this nation, those men or women need to LEAVE the United States, as in their effort to overturn our country, and are, by their methodology, causing our land to become The Disunited States of America. They have become enemies of America. They seek to divide and conquer. They seek to implement their change by turning Americans against each other.

It is really such a simple solution. There are currently approximately 200 counties in the world, surely one of those would offer greater happiness to those who seem to hate America, want to completely change it, and are indifferent to the human havoc they create attempting to do so.

There is enough room on this planet for everyone, but there is no place in the USA for those who seek to dismantle what she is and has stood for. People whose aim is to replace her with an unrecognizable counterfeit; one which will lack the Divine Inspiration of the Original; an Original that became the Beacon of Hope and the Bastion of Freedom; the Fairytale Land of their dreams for centuries of time to millions and millions of people. A country that truly became the Shining City on a Hill, whose arms welcomed all those who WANTED to come BECAUSE of what America WAS. No other country on earth offers, or has ever offered what this nation of people from disparate backgrounds, economic and social status, skin or hair color, education, and dreams, TOGETHER, offered the world.

It could be said of our founding generations and of those who came after for many years, that America is an intangible ideal.

As an American, I do not want that ideal to change.

As a proud born and bred southerner I dispair of the future of my heritage. It also is becoming harder to teach my teenage son that these white supremacist groups are evil and wrong due to the belief from the left that we are bigots and racist because we don't want to see our history wiped out. Sir, please address this too. Trump got shouted at by rude media for mentioning the Left violence too. We must override the media harping on the Right and screaming not to even mention the alt-Left which includes BLM and the anti-fascists fascists (Antifa) who came swinging clubs. Dangerous movements trying to shut down all free speech and control the narrative to make it against the Conservatives. Did the Left have a protest permit too, or can they get by with shutting down anything and anyone they single out. This anti-Confederacy rhetoric is a sham based on ignorance of history and trying to rewrite it to erase the racist Democrat Party fingerprints from forming the KKK to blocking desegregation in the South in the 1960's. We have to un-brainwash our children.

Good analogy there Rev. Huckabee and I think social media is the pressure thats causing the steam to build so quickly. Some days I wish Facebook and twitter and all those social media sites were gone for good. I dont understand for the life of me how "anyone of those peoples (kids, teens, young adults) Parents werent keeping them from joining such an extremist group where eventually they will end up hurt or even dead. I brought my kids up different, they do fear God and have moral boundaries and live by blueprint that was set forth in the bible. I can't even remember when our country has had so much hope for a better future. I believe those in the media who report fake news and lies should be shut down and charged enormous fines. You are correct. I was not an Obama fan, but I did not go out and act like an idiot for 8 years. He was elected the President of our nation. I might not have liked his politics, but I lived with it. I feel like the media, and the Democrats will not give President Trump a chance. Many of the politicians are just stirring up the situation. Some of the comments are strictly political. No one seems to really care about the American people! If they would start to work together instead of trying to simply win reelection our country might be able to remember that united we stand, divided we fall. The most important thing all Americans can do right now is to pray for the leadership that is in the office right now. Maybe, God will start to melt people's hearts, politicians hearts, and He will direct our nation. Right now, there is so much evil that we do not seem like a nation under God.

We should not be tearing down historical monuments. We should be learning from both the good and bad of our history. Again, President Trump was right in his initial comments decrying all racism and bigotry before knowing the details. As information comes out, the group protesting taking down the monument had a permit and the city knew about their event months ahead. Meanwhile, the other groups who showed up were supposed to enter from one area so the police could keep the groups separate. They did not have a permit and decided to enter from all over. While white extreme groups (alt-right, KKK, etc.) are not what we are all about, those who came without a permit and entered where they were not supposed to should be prosecuted. This is going to continue as long as we have paid rioters and looters. Those groups should be labeled as terrorist groups.

I do not in any way condone the KKK or any other racist group, But I do believe in the 1st Amendment and it stands for ALL people, also the Far right protesters had a LEGAL PERMIT, the left ANTIFA, BLM etc..DIDN'T9THEY WERE THERE ILLEGALLY AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT THE VERY LEAST CORRALLED BY THE POLICE, and ALL parties should have been disarmed! Trump was right in his 1st comment; as both sides; the Legal and the Illegal were wrong and yet the BIASED MEDIA ONLY CALLS OUT THE LEGAL PERMIT HOLDERS AS BEING WRONG!!!

This comment was copied. I represents my thoughts on the same issues. I have not had my coffee yet, so rather than re-write/word I am sharing what this person wrote because it is fact:

"Pay Very, Very Close Attention to the Term "White Nationalist"
And ask yourself... "What exactly IS a White Nationalist?"

Obviously, it is a white person who is also a Nationalist. Absolutely NOTHING wrong with either one. President Trump himslef, is a White Nationalist. As are a huge percentage of his supporters.

But what the media is busy doing, is using the term "White Supremacist" and "White Nationalist" in the very same newscasts, interchangeably. Most people I know haven't caught onto to this very DELIBERATE technique of brainwashing.

I, myself, am a "White Nationalist". But am I a "White Supremacist? Not even close.

But the media wants all of the brain numbed lemmings to associate anyone who is white, and a Nationalist, with the KKK, or White Supremacists. When the two have NOTHING to do with each other.

A White Nationalist, is simply a white person who believes in putting America (in this case) FIRST. There are plenty of Russian "White Nationalists" too, only they believe in putting Russia FIRST. It by NO means indicates that they are some kind of White Supremacist, or any other assorted racist bigot.

Nationalists are the blood enemy of the Globalist NWO. So naturally, their minions, the Talking Whores in the Mainstream Media, are using this power of association to brainwash the gullible (of which there are MILLIONS) into equating White Nationalists with White Supremacists.

You can be sure that any march or rally of Nationalists, will include Soros funded shills and provocateurs, posing as White Supremacists, as was the case in Virginia.

These people are used to continue making conservatives (and NWO aware people), stay at home and stay in the closet, so to speak.

The reason that the Right does not organize the way the Left does, is because the Left have become masters of demonizing the Right, into submission.

And that is EXACTLY what you're see going on right now, with the media's use of the term "White Nationalist". Their goal is to SHAME Trump supporters. And I've heard that exact word used by many of the Talking Whores in the media today.

SHAME on you "White nationalists", even though there is NOTHING "shameful" about being White, or a Nationalist.

But the globalists want to associate Trump supporters with Supremacists, and paint them as "racists". Trying (like Hillary did) to shame the "deplorables", by mischaracterizing them."

In addition, Trump made a mistake, a big one, by specifically calling out only the white groups at Charlottesville, and not specifically calling out/naming BLM, ANTIFA....etc. THAT just might have lost him quite a few votes, maybe enough not to be prez for two terms. Great job, whoever advised him to do that....Great job.

While this nonsense was going on, it was barely mentioned that Kim retreated on his pledge to nuke Guam and was in so many words "going back to the drawing board", as the President stared him down. This was huge news, but the amount of minutes it took President Trump to respond to Charlottesville on Saturday was the BIG NEWS, superseding even the death by auto of the woman demonstrator. USA needs a reset in the worst way!!

Why do people in this day and age believe they have the right to judge ancestors who lived in the 17th, 18th, 19th and even into the 20th centuries? We didn't live their lives, learn from their home environment or have the limited understanding they had of their much smaller world. How dare we take our values (good or bad), remembrances of the past and advances in knowledge then apply them to those who did not possess those attributes! To me it's clear that this is a very short sided and egotistical thing to do. We should learn from the past - not judge those who lived in it!!

Mike, I agree completely with your comments and assertions. To me the PC mentality that has been prevalent in the past was the beginning of all this creation of the factions we are seeing today. The having to hold back opinions for fear of upsetting some person or groups feelings has morphed into the violence we are seeing today as groups feel they have the right to violently coerce non-believers of their reteric or be harmed. We who have promoted this PC belief are to blame and we must turn this tide by promoting open communication and for those who chose to continue this abhorant behavior should be equally and justly be brought before the legal system for their actions and equally penalized for breaking the law....and this includes those in public office that allow these violent actions to continue!

Hi Mike - I'm one of you biggest fans! It's a shame you're no longer in government. I'm so sick & tired of political correctness - my feelings on Charlottesville is why does the statue of Robert E. Lee need to be removed in the first place? That statue (along with all the other statues of the Civil War) is part of our history! They absolutely should not be removed! God bless you for all you do! I pray for God to protect Pres. Trump and his family and also for our country. Many thanks Mike! (P.S. your daughter is wonderful in her position)!!!.....Pat

Until the following begins to happen in this country it will only get worse:
    1. Stop telling the cops to stand down, mayors who do this should be arrested for breaking the law by not enforcing the law!
    2. Enforce the laws forcefully! Even the little ones, like getting a permit to demonstrate PEACEFULLY. Bring out the billy clubs if that's what it takes to maintain order. First sign of disorder.... drop the hammer.
    3. Stop the indoctrination of our youth at our colleges with socialism. This is a big problem and where much of the unrest is coming from.
4.Reject the ungodly, lying, left wing, socialist, news media!
    5. Stop voting for socialist politicians. Listen up college crowd.
    6. Most importantly our country must repent and turn back to our righteous God.
