Newt Gingrich may have given us our “quote of the day,” when he declared what football player/protesters really need (see below) Although on a more serious note, I’d like to suggest something else they need.
They need to stop tainting football with politics and instead go into the communities they claim need help. Instead of badmouthing America and teaching minority kids that they can’t get ahead because the system’s stacked against them, they should be inspiring them by their own examples, to show them that if they work hard at developing their skills, whatever they may be, they can succeed beyond their wildest dreams.
They also need to help fight the very real disadvantages that many minorities face growing up around gangs, crime, drugs and inferior schools. They might consider doing that by reaching out to work with the first political figure in years who ran on a platform of improving those schools; fighting gangs, crime and drugs; rebuilding the inner cities; bringing jobs back; and insuring that African-American kids have the opportunity to achieve the American dream.
But that political figure was Donald Trump. It wouldn't be politically correct to reach out a hand to him. So I guess they’ll just keep on taking a knee.
Newt Gingrich: “Don’t impose on me your sense of somehow, you feel oppressed,” he said. “If you’re a multimillionaire who feels oppressed, you need a therapist, not a publicity stunt."
