December 31, 2019

On this last day of the year (and the decade!), many people are looking back at 2019.  I would hope that a lot of them, particularly on the left, would reflect on how unbelievably well-off America is – unemployment at all-time lows, wages rising, stock markets booming, gas cheap, trade deals being renegotiated in our favor at long last, violent crime down, terrorists on the run, no new wars (and soldiers finally coming home from seemingly endless ones), food healthier and plentiful, and even the environment much cleaner than a few decades ago (unless you live in a Democrat-run city and have to dodge poop and typhus) – and ask themselves one question:

“Why exactly am I constantly complaining about how horrible everything is?”

In fact, can you imagine what a Golden Age 2019 would have felt like if we hadn’t had to endure the constant whining, sniping, screaming, cursing, crying, protesting and “resisting”?  What are they even resisting? Happiness?

As we stand at the crossroads, assessing the recent past and reflecting on the future, I thought I’d share a few of the more interesting commentaries, the ones you aren’t likely to see in the mainstream media.

I’ll start with one that I’m sure pains the talking heads at CNN, MSNBC, etc., to report: Gallup reports that there’s a tie for the title of Most Admired Man of 2019 between Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

The vote was heavily partisan, of course, but among Independents, it was evenly split.  Pretty amazing considering Obama routinely gets the kind of media coverage you’d expect if Julia Roberts found the cure for cancer, while everything Trump does or says is spun as negatively as possible (if the story was that Trump ate wiener schnitzel for lunch, the media would say, “Do you know who else ate German food? HITLER!!”)

Imagine how fantastic a job Trump must be doing to tie with Obama for Most Admired Man when he gets 94% negative media coverage.  It would like the Businessman of the Year Award going to the president of a tobacco company.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama was named Most Admired Woman again, but her share of the vote dropped from 15% last year to 10% this year, despite massage fawning coverage for her book tour and an adulatory media declaring her “First Lady for Life.” Yet, in second place was our real First Lady, Melania Trump, whom the media treat with either snotty disdain or by ignoring her existence.  She came in ahead of such liberal media darlings as Oprah, Hillary Clinton, Greta Thunberg and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

My prediction for the future (and my hope) is that someday soon, the people in charge of all those women’s magazines that have shamefully (and from a business standpoint, idiotically) shunned Melania Trump and refused to put her on their covers will be kicking themselves with pointy-toed Italian boots for acting so lobotomized by political partisanship.

Moving on, the American Thinker revealed its choice for Most Irritating Person of 2019.  Yes, there were many contenders whose names you’ll surely recognize.  But their #1 choice might surprise you.  At least until it’s explained that like Time’s “Person of the Year,” it might not mean what you think it means. In this case, it’s a positive, since the winner irritated all the right people for all the right reasons.

Taking the coveted title of “Rudest City in America” for 2019 in a Fox News poll was…(I’m trying to build suspense, but what’s the point?)…New York City!  At the link, New Yorkers react to being called rude (Warning: contains language likely to offend anyone not from New York!)

Marta Hernandez of the Victory Girls blog counts down the biggest “fake news” media fails of the year (as they say at Instapundit, “you’re gonna need a bigger blog.”)

For instance, this one sneaked in past the deadline but still made it into 2019, but it will likely keep being repeated in 2020.

In a related story, from the movie “Unplanned” to Jussie Smollett, Newsbusters lists the Biggest Cultural Winners and Losers of 2019.

To help end 2019 with some much-needed laughter, here’s Dave Barry’s annual “Year in Review” column.  A favorite sample quote, from March:

“The Iowa state legislature considers a bill that would fund construction of a border wall around the state to stop the influx of Democratic presidential hopefuls, now estimated at several dozen a day. ‘It’s a humanitarian crisis,’ says one legislator, his voice rising in alarm. ‘They’re swarming all over the state barging into pancake breakfasts. Many of them die within days from pancake bloat but THEY JUST KEEP COMING.’”

And Frank Miele at RealClearPolitics takes a bemused look back at “The Year the Democrats Went Off the Rails.”

For a no-holds-barred look ahead, Kurt Schlichter predicts what will happen in 2020:

Finally, if you’ve still got a few minutes to kill before the ball drops, here’s a column I wrote about how it’s true: people really do have to be paid to turn on CNN.

Happy New Year! May your 2020 be even more terrific than a lot of people didn't realize 2019 was!

The topic of "Most Admired Woman of the Year" could be controversial. The people in charge of women's magazines should remember that in December 2016 the same person they chose now for the title was called by a known voice in the media as "an ape on high heels". Although this "definition" could be considered as too harsh, let's recall how the President was called as "traitor", "Russian spy", etc. by the the hoard of fake-media and corrupt politicians. Also, the editors of women's magazines should be aware that the images of prominent ladies of this country have a large circulation and the fact that Americans are not stupid.

Just adding to my prediction yesterday that Pelosi is not going to allow Trump to give the state of union address in the House this year. Can you imagine President Trump standing there in front of Pelosi telling America all the points of how great the economy is doing and adding to that the USMC trade deal with Mexico and Canada and the China trade deal. I bet to Trump will rip apart the impeachment that just took place in the House. That’s why I predict Pelosi won’t allow the president to give his address in the House. Here’s what Trump should do. Do it in the Senate. Put extra chairs out in the aisles and in the back. Allow congressmen n women to sit in the balcony. And if Trump really wants to piss off the Democrats don’t allow them to attend. I bet too all America will be watching the first time the state of the union address is made in the senate. This is going to be another crazy year. GO TRUMP!!!!

It would have been nice to see a newsletter for today. I grew up when there was real print. Today most of the tags are written by talking heads and designed to reignite the emos and other crazies. I appreciate the sound writing in yours and a few other conservative outlets. The leftists are going 24/7 to demolish Christian thinking like the recent idiocy coming from Christianity Today. Please keep up the good work. Some of the writing here appears to be rehashed old news. I like to keep up with the real stuff like I did while serving in Vietnam era.

What’s going to happen when Pelosi refuses to let Trump give his state of the union address in the house. Remember the craziness last year. She just had him impeached and do you think she’s going to give him the spotlight to talk about how great the economy is going. I suspect 2020 is going to be another crazy political year.

Brought the New Year with a little" News" this morning I endured the reporting with some disgust. The Anchors felt that troops being deployed to Iraq was bad they were taken from their barracks and spent the night flying. They stick their nose into the issues with North Korea Iran like they have a clue what those leaders are up too. These Anchors spend more time in front of a mirror with attendants smearing on makeup and hair spray They read the telepronter and hope they can divide the Country a bit more. These countries leaders are mankind's worse enemies and they want Trumps Administration to treat them like a new born baby when in fact these anchors probably endorse abortion as one may sense I am no fan of the media although I watch more of News Max today than before. Mike keep the newsletters coming.

Thanks for a great year of commentary and information, Mike! Looking forward to 2020 and your great input! Btw, the note you put in about people being paid to watch CNN --I had a choice a new nights ago, it was CNN just beginning with their headlines, or a rerun of "Casablanca". T'was easy. Which one did I choose? "Here's Lookin' At You Kid" !!

Thanks Mike for a great year. I have enjoyed your newsletters I have to say the letters were with facts as I see them put to my way of thinking. As I mentioned before Donald and You were my choice for President I didn't chose you because my thoughts were we needed a non potictiian a Business man lets face it we needed the compete opposite of Obama in every way. I could see in you a bull dog people like you; people were going to hate Donald, hate is a motivator I hated losing so I had always fought not to lose that was the decider for me. People hate Donald his passion for America upsets many, corruption is a staple for many Donald is trying to take corruption away from them thus the hate. Donald also has many followers and believers in selling MAGA and he has pulled off many stunning victories that his presidents could only wish about. Mike you are a great statesman Donald is trying to clean up a lot of dirty messes from generations before him I believe the Creator gave Donald a lot of experience and exposure to deal with these dirty people thats why he got my vote. Happy New Year Mike and Family enjoy 2020 May God continue to bless us all.

Better watch what you say. Your comment, (if the story was that Trump ate wiener schnitzel for lunch, the media would say, “Do you know who else ate German food? HITLER!!”) will probably cause the lefties to say you are equating Trump with Hitler.

The most irritating person of the year to me is Crazy Nancy. In fact she should be the most irritating person of the decade with any Obama close behind. They got the city right though. As a sports fan, I do not like any team or politician from the "evil empire" state. Heck, I do not even like cars with those ugly New YorK LICENSE PLATES! Keep the truth coming Mike. You tell it like it is.

    Most Admired person-------
And we now have POLITICAL nutcases being elevated to this status????? This Country is on the spiral into the deep hole here--
    common moral character is derided,
Religeous freedom is limited, or punished,
gov't programs designed to protect citizens are attacked,
The US Constitution is blatantly ignored(and actually misrepresented)-

Polls show obama(both of them) and trump(but not his wife)--BUT NOT :
Billy Graham, OR the DALI LAMA, or Nelson Mandala, or MLK, or Lincoln, or Washington, or Patton, Hamilton, or Jefferson, or Adams, or Ghandi, or, ANY of the Declaration of independece signers, or ANY of the WWI/WWII participants--and that INCLUDES the german and Japannese combatants---even They have more dedication and character than the current crop of "you owe me" jerks.-----watch the House of Representatives work in their chambers--they are unable to abide by their own rules---they can't even adhere to a timed vote.

And WE THE PEOPLE actually take this crap!!!

So many times, just one statement in your newsletter jumps out at me and inspires what I write in my comment....While all your statements in this newsletter were good, there was not, this time, just one that jumped out at me.....SO, I scrolled down to see if I could FIND that one statement and, before I knew it, I was looking at your picture.... was your picture that inspired me to write about how, more often than not, the LIGHT of Christ is reflected in one's COUNTENANCE....and looking at your picture, at the top of your newsletter, it authored that thought because this picture REFLECTS the light in your countenance......AND....

Because the opposite is also true...that the spirit of DARKNESS is also reflected in one's COUNTENANCE....I decided to make my comment ABOUT this relevant to the 2019 Impeachment Saga by simply stating that there is a world of difference between the LIGHT in your countenance..when I look at a picture of you...and the DARKNESS in Nancy Pelosi's countenance.... when I look at a picture of her! And, your picture of you that appears BELOW this writing space also bears witness to His light IN you that is reflected in your smile!

While watching the impeachment hearings, I cannot say THAT I saw this same kind of light in the faces of ALL the Republicans, but I CAN say that I did not see the kind of darkness, in ANY Republican's face, that I have seen in Nancy Pelosi's face and that I also saw in many of the Democrats that spoke during the impeachment hearings!

Of course the blind media does not SEE this aspect of the story and its relevance TO this story....or its relevance to the statement that Governor Cuomo made in response to the recent tragic anti-Semitic attacks when he stated: "There is a scourge of HATE in this country." .....THEREFORE, THE only answer TO hate is love
......Those who love reflect the light OF love in their countenance...those who hate reflect the darkness of hate in their countenance......

So, as their year....that has been filled WITH the darkness of hatred....comes to a close, I thank you for BEING a light IN that darkness!!!!!

Mike, you comment that the decade of 2010 through 2019 is the greatest decade. I disagree, Sir, 2010 through 2016 belongs to Obama and was a dismal failure. Whereas, 2017 through 2019 belongs to Donald Trump and is a stellar period in the U.S. Trump recovered our Country from the massive Marxist mess Obama made and took the Country to new heights that had not been achieved in many decades.
