My commentary on “Seattle Is Dying,” a mesmerizing (and maddening) hour-long news special produced by KOMO-TV, brought in many thoughtful letters. Here are a few excerpts from some that came in from people who have lived in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest…
From Kenneth:
My cousin sent me this video, and for someone who grew up in a quiet suburb of Seattle I was totally horrified by what I saw. My sister, who still lives in the Seattle area, is a Democrat, and we very seldom speak because if the subject turns to politics and I even mention the word ‘Trump,’ she goes into a rage of how bad he is and how he is ruining the country.

From John:
Governor, both my wife and I were born in Seattle [and] lived in Seattle all our lives until two years ago. It has gotten so liberal, so nuts, that we moved out of Seattle to a place about 60 miles north to a small rural community. It is hard being a conservative in a land of liberals. We just try and avoid any political conversations. We both think our governor is a nut case.
...We really dread having to go into Seattle for doctors or anything else. Such a shame that Seattle is following the path of liberal Detroit and other cities where the Democrats have been in control for a long time.
From Doug:
Add Portland, Oregon, to the list of [cities under] leftist socialist control. Police there are even persecuted by the mayor and other city leadership if they so much as have contact with any Christian group who want to meet peacefully and pray for the city and the problems leftists have created (such as not protecting ICE agents and anyone who even has the appearance of not supporting the leftist, socialist anarchy in the city.) Police get in trouble with the state for enforcing federal law and get in trouble with the feds if they don't.
From Anne:
In the sixties I lived in Seattle. During the time I was single, I did not have a car and relied on bus transportation and walking. [My job] required me to go out late at night...I also walked all over the area. I felt totally safe and never gave a thought to it. I don’t remember ever seeing a homeless person on the street. What a change!
When we lived near San Francisco in the late sixties and seventies, we would drive up for dinner and walk all over the city. It was safe. We rarely saw anyone who could be classed as homeless. The streets were clean. What a change!
How sad that these beautiful cities have gone down so much. We know which party has been in power for years. Progressive? Are you kidding me? What is progressive about the poor human beings with drug addictions and mental illness living on the streets, defecating wherever, living in tents. How is it the fault of those who earn a good living? It makes no sense.
These folks need help but don’t get it. Our mental hospitals are few and far between and the libs don’t want to interfere with someone’s “freedom” so they allow them to live in misery. At the same time they [work] so hard to keep African Americans and Hispanics in a state of victimhood. How can people not see through this?
From Jeff:
Interestingly, KOMO is no longer known as conservative, but regularly twists things to a liberal bias around here, and the anti-right mantra is huge. I’m born and raised in the Seattle [area] and [have been] involved in emergency services for years. The difference between the ‘80s and now is shellshocking and sad.
…………….
Jeff, if that’s true about KOMO-TV, I guess we’re lucky they even aired this report. They’re getting a ton of grief over it, you can be sure. Eric Johnson, the show’s reporter and writer, deserves great thanks for his work, not to mention a boatload awards that he’s not likely to get. Remember, this is the third in a trilogy of videos dealing with Seattle’s huge problem; I hope my readers will watch all three and spread them around. It’s important now, at the start of this insane 2020 campaign, that people all around the country see the real-world effects of leftist policy.
