Alec Baldwin pleaded not guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter in New Mexico. The judge released him on his own recognizance (she must not be familiar with his recognizance) provided he abides by four conditions that you can see at this link, and then makes bets on which one he violates first.
Prosecutors also dropped the enhanced weapons charge that could have increased the potential sentence from 18 months to five years. Andrew McCarthy explains at this link why it was dropped (that law wasn’t yet in effect at the time of the shooting) and why he thinks all the charges should be dropped and Baldwin should just face lawsuits and a civil trial. I’m not a legal expert like McCarthy, but that seems too lenient to me, considering an innocent woman is dead due to Baldwin’s actions. But see if he can convince you.

FTX co-founder and alleged cryptocurrency scammer Sam Bankman-Fried has been hit with more indictments, this time for allegedly seeking to influence cryptocurrency regulations by making over $70 million in illegal donations to members of both parties in the 2022 election, using straw donors and corporate money.

Incidentally, while Bankman-Fried attempts to disarm his accusers by coming across as a naïve, childlike nerd who just got in over his head, it should be noted that despite his youthful and unkempt appearance, he’s not a college age slacker, he’s 30 years old. For reference, that’s just one year younger than bank robber John Dillinger was when the feds gunned him down, except Bankman-Fried has cost his victims a lot more money.
Hollywood mogul and major Democrat fundraiser Harvey Weinstein, who is already serving a 23-year sentence for rape in New York, was sentenced to another 16 years in prison in Los Angeles Thursday for rape and sexual assault. Four women accused him, including the now-wife of Gov. Gavin Newsom, but the jury was hung on her charge and another woman’s and acquitted Weinstein on a third.
Weinstein’s rep said there would be an appeal and called it a “cruel sentence,” considering his age, health and the conditions of the trial, which he described as having an accuser who lied and a judge guilty of bias and injustice. He said, “There are many out there who will celebrate this action, but it is a sad day for justice and fairness, and I hope no one who is pleased with this is ever caught on the wrong side of cancel culture while hopelessly and voicelessly proclaiming innocence."
That’s very eloquent. They should hire him to write Hollywood awards show speeches where celebrities lecture us about their superior morality.

AI update
Is “artificial intelligence” really intelligent if all it does is regurgitate leftist talking points without even thinking about them? Steve Milloy, the founder of the website Junk Science, asked the popular AI bot ChatGPT, “Is CO2 warming a hoax?”

As expected, ChatGPT responded with the standard talking points about how manmade global warming caused by CO2 is an established scientific fact and that variations in temperatures do not prove longterm climate trends. But Milloy is well schooled on this subject, including on data that the activists don’t like to discuss, and he kept forcing ChatGPT to explain how its claims could be true in light of that data. ChatGPT kept trying, but Milloy finally got it to admit it had been wrong and NOAA global temperature data actually shows a slight cooling trend from 2016-2022, despite 500 billion tons of CO2 emissions.
To be fair, admitting when you’re wrong is a sign of intelligence. This also illustrates why radical environmentalists would rather shut down debate than have to answer questions.

Biden gets a challenger
Author and “spiritual thought leader” Marianne Williamson just became the first Democrat to announce that she will run for President in 2024, challenging Joe Biden if he runs for reelection. Williamson ran in 2020 and endured a lot of mockery for her spacey new age beliefs. But despite that, she still managed to come across as the second-sanest Democrat in the field behind Tulsi Gabbard. Unfortunately for both of them, sanity is now a detriment to winning the Democratic nomination, not a qualification.
As for Biden, an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll shows that he got a boost from the State of the Union Address, scoring his highest approval ratings since early in his term, 46% among adults and 49% among registered voters.
They watched the same speech I did, so I assume they’re just not aware that Biden served up more whoppers than a Burger King at lunch hour. I doubt that rating will last very long because rhetoric doesn’t tend to hold up well when it’s getting pounded by reality. For instance, how long with his assurances that inflation is coming down stand up as Americans continue seeing their paychecks erode more and more? Just like they did in January, at a higher rate than economists predicted.
December’s inflation was also revised upward from 0.1% to 0.2%. Pardon my ignorance, but if inflation is coming down, shouldn’t those numbers be getting smaller instead of larger?
Oh, and to all the folks who think Joe is finally getting the hang of this job: Redfin reports that since June, US homeowners have lost a combined $2.3 trillion in home value. When you hear the Democrats chanting “Four more years,” imagine what your home will be worth after that.

Eighteen is the age when you’re a legal adult with full civil rights, and it’s unconstitutional to deny adult citizens their Second Amendment rights. So stop wasting the taxpayers’ time and money on posturing that will be thrown out by the courts and try doing something that will actually help them.
