WNBA Star Brittney Griner released from Russian penal colony

There’s breaking good news this morning: WNBA star Brittney Griner has been released from a Russian penal colony, where she was serving a nine-year sentence after being caught with cannabis oil in her luggage during a trip to Russia. The Biden Administration is congratulating itself on arranging her safe return to the US.

Now, the bad news: to get her out, they agreed to a prisoner exchange. They’re releasing alleged Russian arms dealer Victor Bout, known as “the Merchant of Death,” who was serving 25 years for conspiracy to kill Americans as part of his support for a Colombian terrorist group.

Not exactly an even exchange, is it? Some critics are calling it a “huge win for Vladimir Putin” (wait, I thought it was only Trump who did Putin’s bidding.) In fact, one might almost suspect that Russia’s entire motive in arresting a high-profile American was just to obtain a bargaining chip to get this dangerous monster released, and that they’re now laughing at how they rolled us as other nations watch and take notes.

It might be a little more reasonable if Biden had at least gotten a 2-for-1 deal and secured the release of former Marine Paul Whelan, who’s been jailed in Russia since 2021, but he didn’t. He just got one WNBA player for the “Merchant of Death.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that Ms. Griner is home safe. Maybe now she’ll actually have a little appreciation for America and the many rights Americans enjoy. But it’s hard not to ponder that if only she had acted with a bit more caution and intelligence in the first place, maybe “The Merchant of Death” wouldn't be walking around loose again.

    Mike, Global Warming is a Hoax. CO2 is Not a Green House Gas causing Climate Change. Global warming its Not man made. Fossil fuels did Not do it. We need More CO2... What else do you need to know? RABurton

    This is just not right. Sets a danagerous president. Exchange one trader for a murderer. She took a knee to America, carried a banned substance into a foriegn country and she gets to come home because she is a model for the athletes, LGBTQ XYZ or any other letters for the 30 different genders and an icon to the youth, so says our press secretary. We left behind a patriot, marine, decent man who would give his life for his country, family or fellow serviceman. He is left to rot in a foriegn country and she is free to live in and plot against the country that saved her. Way to go Pres. What else could one expect from the President of one country who is indebted to and owned by the enemies of that country. This is just not right by any way you slice it. If anyone is of any means, wealth, fame or influence, one would be advised not to travel to any country that hates America as you may find yourself the next person waiting for an exchange. The door has been opened.

    Who took that photograph of the traitor Griner!? The lighting is perfect and it looks staged to me. It could be a scene taken right out of a movie. Considering all the fake BS coming from the WH I suspect this entire fiasco was staged for the purpose of placing Victor Bout, known as “the Merchant of Death,” back into action as an operative of the United States to help the other side. The clown show must go on.

    Biden is in bed with Putin. This prisoner exchange is a joke. Waiting for the next big attack on America. This administration is begging our enemies to attack us. Just waiting for 911 Part 2 to happen.

    There were reports of significant reductions in Russia's armament supplies after the longer-than-expected Ukraine war. Putin needed his Merchant of Death back to help him resupply his arms. Biden needed a way to prolong the war so he could justify sending more US taxpayer dollars to Hunter's business cronies in Ukraine. The war will continue. Here's another theory: Russia's Putin & China's Xi renewed their friendship before the war. If Russia won, China would be in a positive position with a powerful neighbor. If Russia lost, as they might, they would be weakened prey for China's military. Win-Win for China. We'll see which side Bout chooses to help.

    So agree that Paul Whelan should have been released over Brittney Griner.
    Although he brought more drugs into Russia than Brittney, why is there no mention of releasing Mark Fogel. Are there any other Americans in Russia that are forgotten.

    I did not know this since I follow absolutely no sports, nor have use for them, but I heard on SBN that she would not stand for our national anthem, was a practicing lesbian, and took a knee in disrespect for our country. Perhaps she should learn to respect the liberties we have in this country rather than disrespecting USA. My thought if you do not like it here, don’t let the door hit you on the way out of this country, believe me, you will not be missed.
