It looks as though things might really be about to change at the Justice Department.  As Attorney General nominee Bill Barr awaits his Senate confirmation, deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is now expected to leave his job soon.

FOX News says that according to their sources, Rosenstein plans to “transition out of his job” in the coming weeks.

That is welcome and long-awaited news.  Given his huge conflicts of interest, Rosenstein was the last person who should have been in the position to oversee the special counsel.  As he refused to acknowledge that, he needed to be fired or “induced” to step down.  And the fact that Trump couldn’t fire him without being accused of obstruction –- even after Trump learned that he’d talked about secretly recording him and possibly even working with Cabinet members to unseat him under the 25th Amendment –-  shows how twisted this whole Russia “investigation” is.

I would add that Rosenstein’s “transition” out of the DOJ absolutely must include a very special “exit interview,” under oath, with the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Chairman Lindsay Graham is surely working on that now, because once Rosenstein is out of his job and back in the private sector, he will also be out of reach of the Inspector General, who is limited to interviewing current government staff.  We can't possibly know all the factors that might have contributed to his decision to depart, but if I were a betting man, I'd bet that avoiding more questioning is one big reason for his imminent leave-taking.  He managed to run out the clock to avoid testifying before House committees, he’s stonewalled the Senate, and now he may be timing his departure to avoid any future confrontation with internal investigators (and, of course, the Senate if Sen. Graham doesn't lock it up).

He shouldn’t let the screen door hit him on the way out, but before he goes, he’s got to testify before the Senate.  We’re sick of watching as slippery government lawyers grease their own way out of legal jeopardy.  Do whatever it takes to put him in the hot seat that he’s been so tenaciously avoiding.

UPDATE:  Investigative reporter John Solomon said Wednesday afternoon on Sean Hannity's radio show that according to his sources, one reason Rosenstein is leaving is that Bill Barr, in negotiating with the President, said he would accept the AG position if he could choose his own deputy.  Rosenstein must have seen the writing on the wall, because Barr, presumably being of sound mind, would never choose him to continue in that job.

When one black male escort turns up dead of a drug overdose at the home of a white Democratic mega-donor in West Hollywood, that might just be a tragic coincidence.  When a second turns up dead, that might actually be enough to get the homeowner seriously investigated, even if he is a Democratic mega-donor in West Hollywood.  One black protester in the crowd outside his house made an interesting point: he said if two white men had been found dead inside a black man's house, the dude would already be in jail.

I really don’t mean to pick on “Democratic” Socialist Rep. Alex Ocasio-Cortez, but her plans to remake America into a socialist Utopia apparently not only require destroying the Constitution and US economy but also waging war on fact-checkers.  After being challenged on her fuzzy math on “Sixty Minutes” (hey, it was only a little $21 trillion mistake, which is nothing when you’re “morally right”), she went on an epic tweet-storm against fact-checkers, demanding to know why she’s being fact-checked so much when the Trump Administration has been fact-checked so little.

The Washington Post’s fact-checker, Glenn Kessler, replied, “We have fact-checked you twice. We have fact-checked 7,645 Trump claims.”

Then you’d better brace yourself, Glenn.  She has 7,643 to go.

As long as we’re on the subject: when you hear the latest crop of far-leftists revive the old saw about the rich needing to pay their “fair share,” you can consult this handy link to see how much they’re already paying.  Like how the top 20% of earners currently pay over 88% of all federal income taxes.  They might argue that that's not fair.

And note that that while the tax cut has led to a job boom and manufacturing jobs returning to the US that Obama suggested would never come back without a magic wand, Democrats are already talking about raising the corporate tax rate by a whopping 33%, making the US less competitive with other nations and killing recent growth in GDP, jobs and wages.

But then, we’d all suffer equally, so it’s “fair!”

This is a big week for believers in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and socialism.  As if to illustrate why so many productive, tax-paying citizens are fleeing blue states, New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio announced that the city will begin guaranteeing comprehensive health care to every resident, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status.  That includes 300,000 “undocumented New Yorkers,” or to use the more precise, non-PC term, “illegal aliens.”  And in the grand tradition of creators of big government handout programs since time began (and aluminum siding salesmen), DeBlasio promised, “It's going to save us money down the line."

Meanwhile, on the far left coast, California’s new Governor Gavin Newsom pushed the state closer to single-payer health care by announcing that health care benefits would be extended to illegal immigrants under age 26 (Questions: if you’re not allowed to ask for ID to see if they’re even citizens, how do you determine their ages?  So isn't that age limit effectively unenforceable?)

I don’t expect politicians of their ilk to be familiar with economic history and theory explaining the unintended consequences of offering “free” stuff that someone else has to pay for to anybody who shows up.  But judging from their thinking, you might guess that during their formative years, they probably smoked a lot of weed while listening to rock albums.  If so, then they must have heard “Tommy” by the Who.  So I'll cite that:

In this rock opera, a deaf, dumb and blind, but charismatic, guy who literally knows nothing about the real world becomes a celebrity, and a lot of deluded stoners decide he must be their Messiah.  He has a big enough ego to believe it himself, so he orders his followers to put on blinders and ear plugs and build a big commune, then he starts inviting the entire world to move in and live there for free (“We need more room, build an extension, a colorful palace, spare no expense now…”)

Naturally, the place is soon filled to bursting, yet “there’s more at the door, there’s more at the door…”

The rock opera has a happy ending when even Tommy’s deluded followers finally realize he’s a fraud, declare, “We’re not gonna take it,” and overthrow him.  Let us all pray that the voters of New York City and California take off their blinders and earplugs and have the same realization before the entire population of Central America has moved in and all the producers have fled to Texas where they’re listening to ZZ Top.

Dear Governor Huckabee: The reason that the democrats will never give an inch to the President's agenda has been established years' ago. There are no more centrist, moderate democrats. Maybe this opinion could shed some light on why the President can't make any headway with the democrats no matter how good it is for the country or how successful he is.

What has happened to the centrist Democrats? Where did the good old moderate Democrats of my father's day go? I'm talking about the party of yesteryear that was for the people and the United States of America.

In 1944 the six-time Socialist party candidate for president said: "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened ... I no longer need to run as a presidential candidate for the socialist party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

Then came the 1960s. This is when the New Left got its beginning. Saul Alinsky, a friend of Hillary Clinton, stated that to change a society, one had to first infiltrate the major institutions, the school, the media, the churches, the entertainment industries, the labor unions and the three branches of government, and then they would have the power to implement policies.

The Democratic Party of today is far left and its top levels have been infiltrated by a vast number of socialists and communists.

In December 2009 former DNC chairman Howard Dean said that "cooperation between European Socialist and the Democratic party had intensified significantly over the proceeding years." Howard Dean said that the socialists were making significant gains in the Democratic Party, and that was in 2009, when the extreme socialist Barack Obama was elected president. (written by Marlin Beck, Evansville)

We need to get Republicans, Tea Party members with some backbone that will stand up to this party and exercise its right to bring the corrupt to justice. If they are not willing to do that, I do not see any hope in keeping capitalism in this country. Our President is pretty much alone in his fight for America.

Mike, regarding the government shutdown. Seems to me it's upside down. Let's send the Washington politicians home, without pay, and let them ponder the consequences of their actions. They should, of all folks, have to live by the same laws they pass for the rest of us.

They are least affected by the shutdown as they continue their luxurious lifestyle while the folks in "fly over country" are most affected. Maybe the politicians could go home and pitch in picking up garbage they created.

Wow just have to say thank you. I couldn’t have done a better job myself of my arch enemy. He has been the biggest oppressor to me for going on thirty plus years to squelch my opinion and defame me because of his personal ambitions to be POTUS. My spirit guides told me who is the right person to be President. For me it was not ever about being against someone, it was about who God wanted. He’s a dirty player, unbecoming of a supposed Christian man. Yuck. Yuck Yuck. I am so turned off. He has no remorse either. My life was supposed to be different than it is. That's what happens when you are betrayed by those people who you believe are there for you that you can trust because they are godlly people. Apparently he does this betral to other people but he’s met his match with Trump and friends. He should not pick on people who are not and in hiis social class. The truth is coming out. He thinks that he is better than everyone. Karma is a bitch.

Conservatives know that Donald Trump is the POTUS, but Dems, especially Schuster & Pelosi think THEY are running the country. They give ultimatums to DJP, scorn him, disrespect him and are obnoxious themselves. They are pushing Universal Healthcare - do they ever check out European countries and Canada to find out how BAD this plan is? Having experienced it myself on trips to Italy, they have doctors round the clock, but your neighbor next door can show up (well, he DID take a course on what to do). He will be cordial, but never check the 102 fever you have or look down your hurting throat - he will hand you a 1000 mg antibiotic - engage in social conversation with your mate and tell you to go to the doctor tomorrow. Going to the doctor tomorrow results in a room with 50 chairs side by side (no mags or TV here) and you can wait up to 3-5 hours to see the doctor who also hands you the antibiotic. Yes, the meds are free and most people stock up on them for future use. These patients can wait 5 or 6 months to see a doctor if they need gall bladder, hernia or any operation. You are on a long waiting list. Most of the natives in Universal Health Care Countries come over to the USA and schedule surgeries with our doctors and hospitals. Some of the doctors in Universal Healthcare do have 'separate' paying clients who sign up with them and the doctor is first on call for them. Of course you WILL pay for it. And depending on how many 'clientele' the doctor has - it will determine your waiting time. Many women in these countries 'hoard' their free meds and they take care of the people around them with them. They have become the 'medical staff'. If you recall like I can, Hillary Clinton was in charge of healthcare program under her husband, President Clinton. who had other things to do in the Oval Room. Hillary and a female senator drafted the Universal Healthcare - with an existing and still existing today health entity. She was quoted as saying that the health entity "will be the biggest healthcare agent in the US". Well, today it is up there and here are the Dems again with the same pitch & promise?

The USA now has the best health care in the world. And all the Dems care about is the $$ and the government control. They are already 'eyeing' & controlling age-limited care for seniors. They don't care about people caravanning in large numbers into our country with diseases the USA has had under control -- ie, TB, measles, and communicable diseases -- do you think you will find a doctor immediately who will treat your sick child or will you wait in a 50-person room for hours and told to come back the next day? Ask your doctor how he or she feels about it -- it's not a good deal. None of the Dems' socialistic ideas are. Stay with Trump - he cares about people.

I really wish Dems in NY and CA who want to throw out the Constitution and give illegals free everything, they should get no Federal tax money to pay for their handouts. They're just going to suit these illegals as voters, when the time comes. Only way they can win anything, is to stuff voter rolls with illegals and dead people, whose ss#s the illegals will surely receive. The swamp is so deep in those two states, the leaders should be drowning in it.

  • Bill Van Skiver

    01/10/2019 12:41 AM

With regard to the Dems latest claim that the whole border crisis is "manufactured" and the liberal media as always being their echo chamber, may I suggest someone in the Trump administration or anyone for that matter with the ability to do so compiling and gathering a list of those who have been killed by an illegal alien in the past 10, 20, 30, or even 40 years. To do this, get all the local law authorities across the country to submit such a list to a designated central point of choice and total it all up, then create a "Memorial wall" or Memorial hall" if you will, just as has been done for the Vietnam vets for example. The 911 memorial as well as just another example. Perhaps even put a face on each victim with a photo. Many have been greatly moved by visiting these war memorial sites when they see the deaths in their totality by the sheer number of names all in one place. I submit that this could have the potential to help wake many more people up when they can then get the FULL picture of this. I guarantee many more hearts would walk away forever changed. Then have those like Fox News, OAN (One America Network) and anyone else who truly cares air it! Whaddaya think? Just a thought.....

Once again the American people are the beneficiaries of the wisdom of an individual with no life experience, no knowledge of our Country's history and complete ignorance of the Constitution of the United States. I am speaking of Ocasio-Cortez.
I don't know about anyone else, but I am tired of being subjected to her radical, ignorant rantings. She has yet to demonstrate even a minimum understanding of any fundamental management, economic, or common sense elements of "leadership".
She should preface each of her statements with the immortal words, "Once upon a time....", because she has no practical knowledge, only emotional rantings. However, I believe that she, and her intentions are fundamentally evil.
Time for the democrats to paste up a new banner carrier.

Governor, I sure am praying that our congress will have a change of heart. I see them so full of hatred for President Trump they are willing to completely destroy the country to take him down. We have become a nation so far from God that I'm afraid He has taken His protective hand off our nation. AND as Paul said in Romans 1, our progression downward had brought this nation to a culture that has been given over to a reprobate mind. May God have mercy on the USA!

You have finally given me something makes me feel like a snowflake. You promoting Alex Ocasio-Cortez "AOC" offends me (just kidding). I spent 30 years in the U.S. Navy during which time I was promoted to "AOC" Aviation Ordnanceman Chief. Later promoted to AOCS (Senior Chief) and AOCM (Master Chief). Hope you can see the humor in this, after all these years I could not pass up the opportunity to say something offended me.

A couple of mixed comments here.
    1. In Re Rosenstein & slippery lawyers. I've known some slippery lawyers. Those guys weren't slippery. They were let loose for the most part. It's an insult to The Real Slippery Lawyers putting those klutzes in the "slippery lawyer" classification. & the slippery set tends to take offense, at least the younger, still out to prove they are set does.
    2. Barr negociations item. I suspect that the AG candidate had his head screwed on straight. Whereas the people in the bar's ethics enforcement area tend to be overwhelmingly left of center and/or Trump haters who haven't gone after Mr. R among others with intent to remove their licenses to practice law (& they should have gone after said licenses successfully), the future AG needed to remove the Mr. R. from any place that would make the future AG responsible for Mr. R's misconduct in the future as the left wing enforcers don't omit enforcing against people not of their on line of thought. Alternative is getting them coming after the AG in office with intent to remove his license. Fun fun fun if you are a lawyer who considers litigation a happy hobby, but not productive if you need to do other work.
    3. Ocasio-Cortez taxation and fossil fuel matters. It's more than economics or costs of changes that marks her positions as impractical or wrong. Underlying her proposed program, is an assumption. The assumption is that if you work Real Hard you can force people to Invent ways of doing things and or Connect known bits of current technology from separate areas of science/technology/hobbies to produce a desired result. That's not a money related or economics issue. News flash: a combination of snobbery & reading/publishing in different magazines in technology & science causes people who have degrees not to communicate with those who have hobbies & those who are self taught ('cause they couldn't find someone to do what they needed) & those who are the products of apprenticeship programs (arts, practical arts like plastering, variety of labor union based technical training programs). The knowledge May be out there. In pieces. Filed under different technospeaks. With no real cross referencing, even impractical cross referencing. Good luck finding it, much less combining it usefully. Even without that problem, historically speaking, things may get invented several times in history without the cartoon lightbulb turning on in practical commerce. The reason might be law, taxes, something else was cheaper or an army invaded where the thing was made/found/invented which distracted folks more or less permanently. Lots of reasons. If the knowledge is Not out there right now, she is assuming that by working really hard you can force the new ways of doing things, the methods & technology that doesn't currently exist to POW come into existance. Individuals, governments, technical guilds, charitable organizations, & so on have been trying that off & on in research labs & garages (& equivalents to to those) for centuries. It may work if you try, but it doesn't work routinely like a light switch or opening the floodgate in the dam holding lake water. You can't Force creative invention into existance no matter how much cash & effort you throw at it. The universe doesn't work that way. When institutions try, they tend to waste a lot of resources and time proving the truth of the preceeding. Basis of preceeding comments & conclusions is writer's long interest in history & extended period of exposure to how things worked in patent law matters. It wasn't what the writer expected or wanted to find, but that's what came out anyway. (The author's natural & personal prejudice is toward nice, tidy, reasonably logical progress/change.)

    Good Evening Governor.
In your "IN CASE YOU MISSED IT"! Think you need to check the TV ads from Tom Styer. He is stating that over 6 million people, doesn't say where they are, are all wanting impeachment of President Trump. This very left wing liberal is spending his millions to drum up
