At the link, a look at the difficulties ahead in getting the Senate to pass a tax reform bill so that both Houses can get together to hammer out a compromise bill. One of the sticking points is getting more liberal Senate Republicans to accept the repeal of the Obamacare mandate that penalizes people who don’t buy health insurance. They fear that it “would gut the heart of Obamacare” (and what does it say for a government program that it would implode if Americans weren’t blackmailed into participating in it?)
One interesting side note not mentioned here: why is the mandate that forces Americans to buy private health insurance part of a tax reform bill anyway? Because the only way the Democrats could skirt the minor issue of it being blatantly unconstitutional was to get the Supreme Court to magically declare it a “tax.” So now, a simple change to a “tax” bill can conceivably “gut the heart of Obamacare.”
