I don’t agree often with Bill Maher, but every so often, he takes the right stand, and he’s usually the only person in Hollywood brave enough to do it. So hats off to him for using his TV show Friday to attack the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) movement against Israel as a “bull-BLEEP purity test by people who want to appear ‘woke’ but actually slept through history class,” and who refuse to acknowledge any responsibility on the part of the Palestinians or that the founder of the BDS movement denied Israel’s right to exist. He also quoted a few of BDS fan Rep. Ilhan Omar’s anti-Semitic remarks.
For daring to speak the truth, Maher was the target of a call for a boycott of his show by Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who accused him of attacking free speech (I know, the irony is strong with this one) and compared the BDS movement with the fight against South African apartheid.
The reaction from the World Jewish Congress was swift, on-point and well-deserved, as you can see at this link:
If Democrats really expect us to believe that it is Donald Trump who’s somehow encouraging a rise in neo-Nazism by not condemning it strongly enough, it might behoove Nancy Pelosi to demonstrate that she’s still strong enough to rein in her freshmen who are openly joining with anti-Semites to try to destroy Israel, and now trying to silence anyone who criticizes them. There are ominous echoes of the 1930s in this story, and they are not coming from the Trump camp.
Rep. Ilhan Omar reacted to the Israeli government banning her and Rep. Rashida Tlaib from visiting Israel for the purpose to inciting unrest and promoting the anti-Semitic BDS movement by using her trademark tactic of claiming to be a victim of anti-Muslim prejudice. She accused Israel of implementing President Trump’s “Muslim ban” policy to keep her out. Prime Minister Netanyahu responded forcefully, as you can see at this link.
You may be surprised, but I find myself forced to agree with Rep. Omar here. You see, Trump’s so-called “Muslim ban” was actually nothing of the sort. It applied to some non-Muslim majority nations and didn’t apply to most majority-Muslim nations. It wasn’t aimed at “Muslims,” it was aimed at keeping out undesirables of any type who only wanted to come to America to attack it from within.
By that seldom-acknowledged but accurate definition, what Israel did is exactly what Trump’s policy aimed to do: keep out a couple of foreigners who were only coming to make trouble. So for possibly the first and last time, I have to concede that Rep. Omar was right about something: Netanyahu was following Trump’s policy. And it worked great.
Over the weekend, massive protests against China continued in Hong Kong, with crowd estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands of people to as many as 1.7 million. Describing the situation as “tense” would be an extreme understatement. Hong Kong could be on the verge of something historic and not necessarily in a good way.

What’s the most reliable formula on Earth? E=MC squared? The Nestle’s Tollhouse cookie recipe? Nope, it’s this: Maximum liberalism X maximum government power X maximum time in power = Maximum disaster.
You can see the results of that formula in cities such as Detroit, Baltimore and Chicago, which last had Republican mayors in 1962, 1967 and 1931, respectively. You can even watch the formula in action before your very eyes in New York, where Republican Mayor Rudy Giuliani performed a miraculous turnaround of a city that was so far gone, many people were saying, “Saw it off and let it float out to sea”…and in the space of slightly more than one term, Bill DeBlasio has brought back the high taxes, garbage, homeless people, disrespect for police and other aspects of the old Rotten Big Apple that New Yorkers must’ve thought would never return because…uh…I guess cities run themselves, so it's safe to elect leftists? As Dr. Phil would say, "How's that workin' out for ya?"
California has already followed the liberal formula in cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, and the results have been staggering, as in, “I’m staggering around with typhus.”
Now, California voters have taken that formula statewide with a legislature under ultra-leftist Gov. Gavin Newsom that’s sparked the biggest exodus since…well, Exodus.
Newsom is seemingly doing his darnedest to turn California into the Golden State for illegal aliens, criminals and homeless drug addicts and a nightmare for anyone who’s just trying to run a business or make an honest living without being assaulted or taxed to death or infected with a medieval disease. One small business owner (or former business owner) in Sacramento has gone viral (in the Internet sense, not in the “infected with typhus” sense) with an open letter to Newsom about how his policies are destroying the state and have forced her to close her business after 15 years.
Judging from all the “Amens” and “You tell him’s” that she’s getting, her frustration must be pretty widespread. But will there be enough Californians who are fed up with crime, high taxes, filth, homelessness, feces, drug needles, garbage, rats, power outages, water shortages, unaffordable housing and violent illegal immigrants who will turn out in the next election and end the reign of bleeding heart incompetence? Will there even be any law-abiding, tax-paying business owners at all left in the state by the time the next election rolls around?
If there are, you Californians should know that you don’t have to keep putting up with this. It’s not a false choice between “progressivism” and “racist, sexist, white supremacist Nazis.” That’s what people call their opponents when they can’t give you one single positive reason to vote for their side.
You don’t have to keep following the same formula year after year until California is one big Baltimore. Remember that the formula for insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
