I try not to fall for the trap of commenting on every jaw-dropping statement by “Democratic” socialist media darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because there are other stories to cover and, frankly, I’d just be doing that all day. But there are two AOC-related stories today that cry out for public exposure. One is funny but revealing. The other, potentially monumental.

Funny one first: Everything AOC knows about economics she must’ve learned from Boston University professors, because her mom obviously knows a lot more about the real world than she does. In an interview with the Daily Mail, her mother, who likes to be known as “BOC” (for Blanca Ocasio-Cortez, not Blue Oyster Cult) freely admitted that she fled New York for Florida to escape the high taxes in the deep blue state.

While her daughter thinks taxes should be even higher, her mom said, “I was paying $10,000 a year in real estate taxes up north. I’m paying $600 a year in Florida. It’s stress-free down here.”

Colorado too

By Mike Huckabee

Colorado’s Governor says he’ll sign a bill to join New York, Illinois and all the New England states except New Hampshire in an attempt to circumvent the Electoral College by insuring that the state’s electors vote for the winner of the national popular vote, no matter which candidate wins Colorado.  This is touted as a victory for democracy, but it’s actually an attempt to undermine the Constitution, destroy our republican form of government and allow a handful of densely-populated blue states to choose all future Presidents.

Like suicide, this is a permanent solution to a temporary problem: whenever Democrats lose, they think the election must have been rigged.  They blame Trump’s victory on the Electoral College, so it must go.  Of course, if a Democrat had lost the popular vote and won the Electoral College, they’d be telling us how important the EC is to assuring all states have a voice in choosing our leaders.  I wonder how they’ll feel if a Democrat wins those blue states with big electoral vote totals, but the Republican wins the popular majority?  Then they’ll be telling us how outrageously unfair their own reform is.

The fact is, the Electoral College didn’t thwart democracy in the last election.  It was designed to insure that people in every state felt they were being represented.  Hillary Clinton had such open disdain for blue collar workers that she wouldn’t even campaign in rust belt states where they were hurting.  They didn’t feel she would represent them, so they voted for Trump instead. In short, the Electoral College worked precisely the way it is supposed to.

Narrative-shattering moment at CPAC

By Mike Huckabee

Here’s one of the more narrative-shattering moments of the CPAC conference: the founder of Black Guns Matter, Maj Toure, explained that the urban minority community is actually conservative in most of their beliefs, but they don’t trust conservatives because liberals have done such a good job of demonizing them and conservatives haven’t done enough to reach out to them and disprove that narrative.

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/black-guns-matter-founder-plan-turn-inner-cities-conservative/

I can vouch for that from personal experience.  When I became Governor of Arkansas, I wanted to serve all the state’s people and work with the African-American community to improve conditions in their neighborhoods.  So I reached out to black civic and church leaders to let them know I wanted to hear their concerns and find common ground to help.  There were a lot of long-ingrained suspicions to overcome, but I eventually convinced them that I was sincere, and we worked together to make some positive changes.  I’m proud to say that when I ran for reelection, I got a larger share of the black vote than any Republican since Reconstruction.

Right now, the left is attempting to gain power by sowing division and suspicion among any and all identity groups.  They seek to elevate themselves by tearing Americans apart.  Republicans need to call out the poison of identity politics for what it is and concentrate on what we all share as Americans.  For instance, under President Trump’s policies, unemployment for all ethnic groups is at or near all-time lows.  That’s something that should be trumpeted by the GOP 24/7.

JFK said, “A rising tide lifts all boats,” and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We may have come on different ships, but we’re all in the same boat now.”  Voters should be reminded that both of those things are as true as ever, but only the Republicans still believe in them.

Thanks for the laugh, Hillary

By Mike Huckabee

And now, for a little comic relief.

We all remember that when Hillary was running for President, she used to lapse into a fake Southern “hick” accent when talking in front of Southerners, to gain rapport with people whom she obviously considered to be hicks. She used to do it even back in the Clintons’ Arkansas days, such as during the 60 MINUTES interview about Gennifer Flowers in 1992. There are many clips of her from that period that show her talking like that, some much more extreme.

The accent always sounded every bit as put-on as it was, at least to people from Arkansas. (Take it from one who knows.)

But she’s still at it. Here she is in Selma, Alabama, before a black audience. At first, I thought she was just kidding around a little, trying to be funny at the start of her speech by jivin’ like a black Southern preacher. (In fact, you can hear a little laughter in the crowd –- maybe they didn’t know whether they were supposed to laugh or not.) But no, she goes on, and appears from this clip to be flavoring much of her speech with it. Hilarious.

Thanks, Hillary. These days, we can really use a laugh.

Laura Ainsworth: Brandon Straka of #WalkAway in a MUST-SEE interview

By Laura Ainsworth, Staff Writer

Just a few months ago, I wrote about “coming out” as a conservative/constitutionalist Republican after years of writing in anonymity. As I’m also a musician, I’d had professional reasons for keeping quiet about my politics; namely, not wanting to alienate those who were left of center, especially fans (and potential fans), other musicians, record buyers (an endangered species as it is) and others who might unfriend/blacklist me. Believe me, I see enough rabidly anti-Trump posts on Facebook and elsewhere to know that this could very well happen. But during the Kavanaugh hearings, something snapped, and I realized the future of the Republic was too important for me to keep my views “in the closet.”

So I wrote about politics under my own name for the first time, here on the Mike Huckabee website. And in the hope of inspiring some of my left-of-center friends to think for themselves, I bought a #WalkAway t-shirt, which I’ve worn a few times but plan to wear a lot more now that warm weather is on its way. Brandon Straka (rhymes with “walk,” as the last “a” isn’t pronounced), founder of the #WalkAway Campaign, is my hero.

FOCUS ON WILLIAM BARR: time for fact-finding and accountability!

By Mike Huckabee

New Attorney General William Barr already has an enormous amount on his plate, with many observers demanding to see accountability and the blindfold tied back over Lady Liberty’s eyes but others highly doubtful of any reform.

In the wake of Michael Cohen’s disastrous (for him) testimony last week, and in anticipation of still more closed-door “classified” testimony –- which is just weird, since Cohen doesn’t even have a security clearance –- ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes appeared on FOX News’ Maria Bartiromo’s Sunday show to talk about what actually NEEDS to happen in order to get the real “Russia” story.

President Trump's CPAC speech

By Mike Huckabee

Saturday afternoon, President Trump gave a speech for the record books, talking to a CPAC crowd for two hours and two minutes.  He often went “off-script” - that's when we get the comments that make Trump supporters cheer and his critics’ heads explode.  Like the moment when the crowd roared with laughter as he mocked the “Green New Deal” replacing oil and gas with sources like wind energy: “Darling, is the wind blowing today? I'd like to watch television, darling.”

“Saturday Night Live” made fun of Trump’s speech, but the truth is, he was much funnier ad libbing than “SNL” has been in years.  Incidentally, does anyone else think it’s odd that liberals believe claims that Trump is so dumb or Alzheimer’s-ridden that he can’t even form a coherent sentence in a White House meeting, yet he can stand in front of thousands of people and ad-lib a two-hour speech?

Put the blindfold back on Lady Justice

By Mike Huckabee

One reason I’m generally opposed to special counsels – especially those like the Mueller investigation that have no end date, budget or clearly-defined investigative limits – is because, frankly, we have too many laws.  It’s been said that everyone unknowingly violates 10 laws before breakfast; and if prosecutors aren’t reined in, they can railroad anyone into prison through selective prosecution.

For instance, it’s been amazing to see Hillary Clinton get away with smashing federal laws and regulations like an HGTV host with a sledgehammer on demo day; meanwhile, Democrats demand endless hearings, investigations, prison time and impeachment for anyone associated with Trump who ever jaywalked on a day with a “y” in it.  Leftists demand strict adherence to every arcane federal rule and regulation from their opponents, with no forgiveness for honest mistakes or simply not knowing some piddling issue might be a violation.  Meanwhile, they feel free to ignore such rules, assuming they exist only to rein in the bad behavior of bad people (their opponents) and surely not to impede the good intentions of good people (them.)

I believe most of the governors that are attempting to subvert our electoral system should be brought up on charges. The LEAST of which would be breach of their oath of office and they should be removed from office because of that breach. Follow-on prosecution, after removal, should be more widespread than what Mueller is still looking at. When people are elected to an office and don't do what they have claimed they will, it's another example of the destruction of our elections.
They REALLY should be held accountable while we still have some faith left in our system of justice. It's dwindling rapidly.

Regarding the editorial "Thanks for the Laugh, Hillary": I grant you that HRC's lapses into southern drawl are comic in a sick, dark sort of way, not to mention profoundly disrespectful of her constituents. That said, I don't find anything laughable about this segment at all. Her audience is eating this up with a spoon!! I did not hear an audience confused by her tone, as you said, but one on the edge of cheering about "the bones rising up"...from oppression and...running out to vote [Democrat]!! The only thing that kept it from being an all-out cheer was a measure of decorum for being in church. She made the charge...apparently believed and supported by those present...the the voting rights act had been circumvented the year her name was on the ballot...and the audience agreed!! I found that absolutely chilling...and not funny at all. This is hugely serious and no laughing matter. Yes, Hillary is a dope from way back, but that so many Americans of color are still being led down the garden path by this kind of hateful, lying, and disingenuous rhetoric is dangerous and frightening. And after so many episodes of her outrageous and bigoted behavior, how can it be that there are still so many that clap and cheer for her, and others like her? Our nation is being torn apart by people like her!! Don't you see? That audience believed her!! This is cause for tears, not laughter. How sad it is that so many of our neighbors and countrymen believe that there are legions of white people and conservatives, and worse, Christian brothers and sisters, who want to keep them down. Hillary and her ilk are no laughing matter...cornball accent, or not...now or ever.
