It’s getting really complicated.

How are we supposed to follow all the twists and turns of the “Trump/Russia” investigation when even the lead attorney for President Trump can’t keep it all straight for us?  On Monday, Rudy Giuliani was definitely a “ramblin’ man,” and it drove the pundits crazy.  In an on-air call Monday to the FOX News show “Outnumbered” to clarify some earlier comments, he said he understood the confusion.  “Believe me, it’s going to get even more confusing when these other tapes start coming out.  But eventually, when you put them all together, it’s going to mean the President did nothing wrong.”

It doesn’t help when most of the mainstream media jump on his every word and take every opportunity to willfully misunderstand him.  For Giuliani to make the point, as he did Monday, that collusion isn’t a crime does NOT mean that Trump might have actually “colluded.”  “It’s a very, very familiar lawyer’s argument,” he said on the phone.  “My client didn’t do it, and even if he did it, it’s not a crime.”

Commentary continues below advertisement

Look, I’m not even a lawyer, yet I understand that in speaking of collusion not being a crime, Giuliani is referring to the illegitimate origins of the investigation –- the FBI probe headed by Peter Strzok and, by extension, the special counsel appointed by Rod Rosenstein.  A special counsel is supposed to be appointed only when there is evidence of a CRIME.  That could turn out to be very important if Mueller tries to subpoena Trump and force him to testify, because in order to avoid that situation (perilous even for an innocent person), Giuliani would have to challenge the subpoena in court, and it would likely go before the Supreme Court.

During the phone conversation, Giuliani referred to this, saying that “maybe one of the reasons we reemphasize the point about the legitimacy of the investigation is we want to show maybe [Trump] shouldn’t be testifying at an investigation that has no legitimacy.”

Collusion isn’t even a legal term; sadly, in the context of this investigation, it’s been used by some commentators interchangeably with the real legal term “conspiracy,” which is a crime.  Andrew C. McCarthy wrote a column recently in which he discussed the difference.  (Just scroll past the first few paragraphs to get to that.)

With polls increasingly showing disenchantment with the Mueller probe and the desire for it to wrap up soon –- before the midterms if you’re a Republican, after the midterms if you’re a Democrat –- there’s been a resurgence of debate over whether or not the President should sit down for questions.  Since the emergence, finally, of the still-heavily-redacted FISA applications for warrants to spy on Trump campaign associates, the legitimacy of the investigation is even more suspect, and that doubt gives Giuliani even more reason to deny Mueller his perjury trap.  But ultimately, as Giuliani points out, it’s the President’s decision.  I ask you to join the chorus of those who say, “NO, NO, NO, MR. PRESIDENT!  DON’T FALL FOR IT!”

Given all that, if Giuliani was trying to uncomplicate the discussion on Monday, he may have done the opposite.  Instead of one meeting that had anything to do with the chance of obtaining “dirt” on Hillary from people who were Russian (again, no crime), there are now allegedly three, though Giuliani said two of them never happened.  But, again, by noting that Trump wasn’t present for meetings that he flat-out said didn’t occur, Giuliani had people scratching their heads.

Here’s a relatively straightforward account of the different meetings that are said to have taken place and Giuliani’s comments regarding each one.   And, yes, this is definitely getting more complicated, but together we’ll just try to make sense out of it and do our part to keep watch over our embattled system of justice.

I really like Mayor Giuliani but he just confuses me when he talks. I don't know if it's because he is getting old or if its because I'm getting old. I think he needs to stay off TV. I think he's making things worse. (Just my opinion)

I don't see how Trump's team are getting beaten up for falling for what was obviously a trap likely set up by Dems to create the appearance of collusion, when Hillary had already hired and bought the famous dossier, to trash Trump. Besides, these loose women coming out, now to reveal their consenual affairs, and seeking payment for their silence, wasn't that known as extortion, in the past, or blackmail, which used to put people in jail?? Since when is blackmail not a crime? Lady justice has definitely taken off her blindfold. The Justice Dept. has gone to the dogs.

A crocodile of the Nile is 40 percent teeth; it clenches onto its victim and twists and turns. This is an ancient serpent who wants to rule the world; it twists and perverts our words; the spirit is not teachable. Remember Satan bruised the heal but Christ crushed the head.

I was wondering if it was just me.........I could not make heads or tails out of Rudy Guiliani's discussion. And I can't tell if he is doing Trump any good at all. But then I'm not a lawyer.

Why is Attorney/Client privilege in effect? This seems to be unacceptable and the attorney should be disbarred, yet no one seems to be addressing this. How can you ever trust any attorney? What am I missing? Common Sense question - President Trump is in trouble if his son told him about a nothing meeting with some Russian with dirt on Hillary. Hillary pays for a FRAUDULENT Russian Dossier which is the BASIS for a special council investigation costing over $20 million, no problem. Just how much blatant CORRUPTION and LIES will it take to force a RESPONSE!

Rudy G. May be a good lawyer somewhere else, maybe as a “fixer” who doesn’t secretly record his client conversations, but he is a detriment to our POTUS as his atty/spokesman. He needs a bulldog like Trey Gowdy.

This is called political theater. It is a game they are all playing to drive the media crazy. The truth is about to come out soon. The Trump Administration is in complete control. They have all the evidence they need to take down the deep state. Trust the Plan.

From the beginning, I have been totally perplexed how a special counsel can be legitimately appointed to pursue a charge that does not exist in law. Collusion has never been anything other than an agreement between two or more people to pursue a common purpose that is not criminal in nature. On the other hand, conspiracy is the same but with a criminal purpose. How the DOJ was allowed to get away with a nonsensical basis for a multi-million dollar, year plus public persecution of a sitting President has so totally baffled me that I have lost all faith in a judicial system that allows it and abets it. This has been a very troubling and disheartening civics lesson. More importantly, it has given Trump's opposition a dancing laser spot jiggering always out of reach. It's kind of scary that at least half our population is so easily distracted by nonsense.

I believe that maybe Giuliani shouldn't be on the news circuit so much and just tweet out like Pres. Trump...short, simple and to the point.

I would dearly love this ongoing witch hunt against our duly-elected sitting president to be over! Give it up already! He won. Such disrespect for our president should be considered treason. We wonder why the world is losing respect for us when we show such criminal disregard for the man who holds the highest office in our land. God bless President Trump and his family and Vice President Mike Pence and his family. I can't wait to vote for you again!

I feel Julianni was a poor choice for President Trump's legal counsel. He has hoofing mouth disease. Don't take this the wrong way ( I am not a democrat), but he is running in 3rd place next to Pelosi and Waters. It gives the appearance of overstepping/crossing the line with client privilege with Julianni running his mouth in the media. There is an old saying, LEST BE THOUGHT A FOOL, THAN OPEN MOUTH AND REMOVE ALL DOUBT. He needs to shut up. And President Trump should NOT cave to the kangaroo court of the special counsel.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,
again I beg you on my knees to tell President TRUMP to get Mr.LARRY KLAYMAN to help him with these gangsters and their actions...Mueller cum suis have to be stopped NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you and forgive my caps...Carla

Trump need's to shut down the Mueller Farce.
Close to 2yrs, and our millions, the best he has done is put $$$$$$$ into his retirement fund.
If Trump did close the investigation, all that would happen is the Left would jump up and down, and be critical of Trump.
Of course they do that on daily basis, if not hourly.
    Its our money!

I really can't understand why people continue to follow these twisted narratives. I truly make my decisions based on my own knowledge of the facts. So, I must say that to come to any conclusions based on listening to or reading of media propaganda. Is just pure conjecture. All this uproar over pure conjecture. It reminds me of a lie that continues on, and on till we forget what we were talking about. In the mean time those affected by the lie have taken the lie as a fact and on and on it goes. People are just being misled by a large number of the daily media and the leadership of the Democratic side of our Government. Not to say that the Republican Leadership can't stand together on any given subject. You should listen to the Time album of ELO. NUTS !

Hi Mike, Thanks for clearing the air on SO much. President Trump should NEVER sit in front of these corrupt people and answer their questions! It is very clear that their agenda is to damage President Trump and they will use trickery to accomplish their goal. President Trump is an honest patriot who may think he has nothing to fear because he knows in his heart that he did nothing wrong. These corrupt tricksters will harm him and by extension harm our beloved America. [email protected]

President Trump should NOT fall into the trap in testifying before Mueller!
Since all else has failed to “get him,” Mueller is hoping to get him to commit perjury or indict him somehow during the interview. I don’t trust Mueller ‘s motives! The SWAMP is getting desperate in trying to get rid of our President and will try anything to get him out. Millions of us our praying for these traitors of our Constitution will STOP this useless attack on our President and Country. What can we do? ??????

I have said on a comment to one of your previous reports that Giuliani is part of the swamp. I would not trust him anymore than any other established swamp-dweller. I hope I'm wrong but I would not trust him. He is a politician of the old school and will say whatever puts him in the limelight at the time. I know there are many permutations of the issue that I do not see, but I don't understand why Trump doesn't declassify all the redacted documents, make them public and then clean house starting with Sessions, Rosenstein and all the other bureaucrats in leadership roles.

AND I sure hope Trump doesn't fall into the trap of being interviewed by Satanic Agent Mule-er. Trump should not give him the time of day.

The left keeps digging up more people & try to make it something to impeach Trump or embarrass him. What desperate people! And for what? Winning what? Just ruining people’s lives for sport? So far haven’t seen them do anything positive for country or anybody but themselves. It’s a good thing Pres Trump is a strong person. Know we can count on him to fight the good fight for us & the bad ones lose bc they have no moral compass. Just saying......

Have thought for awhile now that Giuliani's mental capacity has eroded,at times he seems totally disconnected,The POTUS is loyal, but it might be time to suggest Mr Giuliani step aside and see a medical professional.

Rudy did fine. The media will turn every word of his into something other than what was intended. It's a no win to talk to the liberal media and people know it.
