Today's Commentary: Trump to Ohio -- Sanctuary Cities are about to end -- Susan Rice bails -- Nuancing Satan -- Trump backs Obama policy for now -- News Bits (NEW)
President Trump announced that he will hold his next rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on July 25th. This might have initially been to promote his “Made In America” theme celebrating American business and workers. But don’t be surprised if it now includes a little direct communication to Republican voters to hold their Representatives’ and Senators’ cold feet to the fire on issues like Obamacare.

Sanctuary cities are about to end
By Mike Huckabee
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Thomas Homan had some blunt words and bad news Tuesday for what he called “ludicrous” sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with federal law in turning over criminal illegal immigrants to ICE. Homan said he’s gotten a green light to hire 10,000 new ICE agents, and he’ll be sending them into sanctuary cities. The message to everyone from illegal entrants to politicians is that ICE will “enforce the laws on the books without apology,” and “it’s not OK to violate the laws of this country anymore, you’re going to be held accountable.”
There are more good quotes at the link. Sorry, he didn’t tell sanctuary city officials, “Go ahead, make my day,” but he might as well have.

Susan Rice bails
By Mike Huckabee
Former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice was scheduled to be grilled by Congress Tuesday about her alleged involvement in the unmasking of Trump associates caught up in the government surveillance of people they’d talked to. But lo and behold, something more important came up, and she wasn’t able to make it. What a surprise.
Incidentally, a reminder: the unmasking of Trump’s associates by officials leaking classified surveillance info to the media is, so far, the only actual federal crime that’s been associated with the entire “Russia, Russia, Russia” hysteria.

Nuancing Satan?
By Mike Huckabee
Belle Plain, Minnesota, was about to become the only town in America that had a Satanic monument at the local veterans memorial park. Satanists had complained about a Christian-oriented memorial, so to prevent the usual threatened lawsuit by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the City Council created a “Free Speech Zone” where any religion could erect a memorial. But the very idea of a Satanic memorial being placed on grounds dedicated to fallen veterans was more than most residents were willing to tolerate. The protests became so large and impassioned that the City Council just voted to do away with the Free Speech Zone entirely.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Satanic Temple claimed that the group celebrates Satan only as a “metaphorical construct” of rebellion, and they’re not really embracing Satan. They’d better hope Satan understands their metaphorical nuance. Otherwise, I think I know where he’d tell them to go.
Trump backs Obama policy for now
By Mike Huckabee
It was reported Tuesday that President Trump had decided to re-certify the Obama nuclear deal with Iran. There was much gloating in the media about “meet-the-new-boss/same-as-the-old-boss,” but that’s not the full story. Trump was reportedly so furious about reports of Iran violating the terms of the deal that he was ready to rescind it, but some of his top advisers lobbied him to certify Iran as being in compliance, for now. However, the Administration promised to create a new strategy to counter Iran’s aggression and place new sanctions on Iran for its “malign activities.” We’ll see if that forces Iran to comply. And when it doesn’t, maybe Trump will ignore his advisers next time.
News Bits
President Trump picked Jon Huntsman as ambassador to Russia. Huntsman will hold a get-acquainted meeting with the Russian ambassador, followed by six months of investigations into why he met with a Russian.

Two feminist scholars from Rutgers University put out a paper arguing that research studies should rely less on the work of white, male, heterosexual scientists because it’s tainted by their “white heteromasculinism.” They want science papers to reflect more diversity by citing studies by female, minority and gay scientists. This despite the arguments that (1.) there simply are more white, straight males doing science research, and (2.) scientific facts have no relation to the race, gender or sexuality of the people who discover them. However, the paper does makes a very convincing case that researchers should not rely on the work of feminist scholars from Rutgers.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer claims that Democrats are willing to work with Republicans to “fix” Obamacare, but not to repeal it. He went into a lengthy, very tortured metaphor comparing Obamacare to a patient and the politicians to surgeons, but I’m going to let you click the link and torture yourself with it, if you want. Here’s the short version: the Democrats aren’t surgeons. They’re like medieval quacks who have one prescription for every ailment: inject more money into the problem while simultaneously bleeding the taxpayers. That's their solution to Obamacare, and they want the Republicans to go along with it.
