Nice work if you can get it.

Highly imaginative fiction writer and British ex-spy Christopher Steele was being paid by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee, through law firm Perkins Coie and opposition research company Fusion GPS, to do something he’d probably do for free: dig up any kind of salacious, unverified Russian gossip he could find on then-Presidential candidate Donald Trump and write it up as a “dossier” to give to the FBI. Steele couldn’t stand Trump and had told Bruce Ohr at the Justice Department that he was “desperate” to keep Trump from winning the election. He must have had a great time while raking in the money; they say that if you’d do it even if you weren’t getting paid, it’s not really work.

But in addition to being paid by Hillary for damaging Trump, Steele was also being paid by the FBI –- at the same time, for doing the same thing! The FBI reportedly paid him on 11 occasions. They dismissed him (at least officially) in November of 2016 for lying and leaking to the media, but then they continued to obtain information from him through a back channel conduit, Ohr, who at that time was fourth in command at the DOJ. Curiously, although Ohr testified that the FBI knew of this connection, he said his colleagues at the DOJ were not aware of it.

This is CNN

By Mike Huckabee

Last night, CNN and President Trump got into an epic Twitter battle, one which put CNN in the unenviable position of insisting it “does not lie” and “stands by its story,” even when the story has already fallen to pieces in public. Their source, Lanny Davis (who claimed Michael Cohen said President Trump knew in advance about the meeting with a Russian supplier of alleged dirt on Hillary), has retracted it, admitting he got it wrong.

CNN seems to be mistaking defending free speech with refusing to admit when you screwed up. Even the New York Times has a “Corrections” page. It’s worth reading the linked story to see all the WWE-style back-and-forth, but sorry, CNN. Your self-righteous refusal to come down off a hill made of shifting sand isn’t giving journalists a good name. It reminds me of the old Firesign Theater line: “You can believe me, because I never lie...and I’m always right!”

Of course, they were a comedy group, so they meant it as a joke. And they didn’t follow it with, “This…is CNN!”

Because I could not stop to vote

By Emily Republican

Because I could not stop to vote -
My country ceased to be -
The Constitution mattered not -
without the GOP

It slowly died --- the FBI -
Continued in its ways -
Investigating enemies -
Creating “dossiers” -

The DOJ assumed its role -
As quite a handy tool -
The justice system served the needs -
Of those who’d come to rule -

The House was gone, the Senate, too -
The courts, they ran the show -
The President, his hands were tied -
Until his time to go -

The media crushed all dissent -
Online and on TV -
The State’s official source for news -

Conservatives were secret souls -
Their views misunderstood -
‘Cause Google had condemned their thoughts - As “double-plus-ungood” -

We hardly could remember when -
America was free -
Because I could not stop to vote -
My country ceased to be -

About those polls

By Mike Huckabee

After the past week’s worth of horrible news for President Trump (well, according to the media it was a horrible week for Trump), you’d think Trump’s his ratings would be down there with dandruff, ringworm and the NFL.  But Americans aren’t as easily stampeded as the cattle the media think they are.

Maybe they actually took ten seconds to think about it and decided it’s unfair guilt-by-association to blame someone’s personal tax cheating on a guy he briefly worked for years later. And maybe they decided that the ever-changing claims of a sleazy lawyer and the sleazy lawyer’s sleazy lawyer weren’t really all that reliable as evidence.  Maybe they looked instead at the record stock market, the breakthrough on renegotiating NAFTA, the “no longer possible” 4.1% 2nd quarter GDP growth, unemployment claims at a 44-year low, and the highest consumer confidence in 18 years.  Then maybe they decided, as we say in the South, that they had bigger fish to fry than obsessing over crazy conspiracy theories and the whining of money-grubbing lowlifes of ill repute and the porn stars who are their legal clients.

For whatever reasons, it seems that large numbers of Americans refuse to be panicked over minutia into toppling the Trump Presidency and “annulling” it from history, as hysterically suggested by Robert Reich (I mean that in both senses: he’s acting hysterically, and I find it hysterically funny.)  A new set of polls just appeared that must have the staffs of CNN and MSNBC questioning the very reason for their existence.

Finding a safe space at Facebook

By Mike Huckabee

While the big social media giants are insisting they are completely innocent of leftwing bias with the same adamant certitude of a naked emperor showing off his invisible ermine cape, some disgruntled conservative Facebook employees are pointing out the obvious: these Silicon Valley socialist billionaires are naked!  Or at least, nakedly political.

It all started with a post by Facebook senior engineer Brian Amerige, who dared state the obvious: “We Have A Problem With Political Diversity.”  He said Facebook employees who disagree with the prevailing office political “monoculture” are afraid to say so for fear of reprisals, bullying or losing their jobs.  He offered a long list of examples you can see at the link, including tearing down posters welcoming Trump supporters, making it a firing offense to say that “all lives matter,” attacking non-leftist colleagues as bigots and accusing them of having “offensive ideas,” and demanding HR investigations of anyone who criticizes Islam’s human rights record.

Generic polls

By Mike Huckabee

I’ve written many times before that generic polls are pretty useless as predictors of specific election results. But when you see an overall trend of falling support for Democrats over time, it might mean that Americans are finally moving past summer and starting to pay serious attention to politics (unlike many on the left, most people don’t let politics dominate their every thought 24/7.) They’re starting to ponder which they were really prefer: low taxes, good jobs, secure borders and a booming economy? Or high taxes, job-killing regulations, open borders and a lot of unhinged ranting about investigations, impeachment, socialism, toxic masculinity and government health care that just might cost more money than there actually is? Not to mention the financial system that their lifestyles and retirement depend on being placed under the oversight of a House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters.

If Americans think about all that and the “blue wave” goes down the drain, I think the reason might have been explained best back in the 1700s by British writer Samuel Johnson:

“When a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully.”

Mueller will never investigate those who were responsible for the dossier nor will he investigate Hillary & all her cronies.
