As we approach the one-year anniversary of the January 6 rally and breach of the Capitol Building, it’s time to take an unsparing look at what our “justice” system has become.

I know you share my deep concern that our judicial system increasingly –- and quite openly –- operates like that of a banana republic. The country is changing before our eyes. Yesterday, we looked at the use of “lawfare” to sway election outcomes, with Harvard Law School graduating an army of leftist attorneys specializing in how to manipulate election law. Today, let’s examine how leftist attorneys are weaponizing law enforcement and the courts against their political enemies. Case in point: the shocking violations of the civil rights of Trump supporters who were at the Capitol on January 6. Most say they can’t see their lawyers at all.

I just received this letter from reader Marlene:

“PLEASE tell your readers how to make a difference in how the J6 prisoners are being treated. How can we get this showcased in our communities?

“I live in NY and I will find out who to start writing, and start a petition demanding justice and fairness in their treatment. What else might be successful? This is unacceptable and I can only believe not enough people know about this. Is it legal to protest at the site they are being held? I will pray first, because I know that is where any success is going to come from, but if you can help with any direction I would appreciate it.”

Thanks to Marlene for writing. Yes, this is completely unacceptable and, yes, there are things we can and must do. Two Republican members of Congress, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Texas Rep. Louis Gohmert are leading the way on this issue with a new report called “UNUSUALLY CRUEL: An eyewitness report from inside the DC jail.” On November 4, the two legislators, along with congressional staff members, were finally allowed to tour two jail facilities –- the Central Detention Facility (CDF) and, especially, the Central Treatment Facility (CTF), which houses the J6 detainees –-after two unsuccessful attempts by them and also by Reps. Matt Gaetz of Florida and Paul Gosar of Arizona.

Amazingly, it took a congressional letter and a confrontation with the DC mayor’s office and the Department of Corrections staff to get them in. The letter said they have “the right, prerogative, and duty as Members of Congress to inquire and inspect.” Even then, they say, after two hours of being shown around, they still hadn’t seen any of the J6 political prisoners (let’s call them what they are). It took an 11-minute “heated confrontation,” Greene says in her report, to make that happen. They finally got to meet with the approximately 40 prisoners, in an area of the prison that looked to them “much older” and not updated like the rest of the prison. According to one inmate, it had previously been used as a psychiatric ward.

Some prisoners cried and were “visibly shaken,” Green says. “The physical conditions in which they are held could only be described as inhumane.” The detainees claim they haven’t been able to see their lawyers and family members. Those who decline vaccination are not allowed to get haircuts –- and they’ve been there so long, they’re probably starting to look like someone else who was locked in a tower: Rapunzel. Some –- notably a 71-year-old detainee (!) named Lonnie Leroy Coffman, who has a very serious-looking injury to his arm –- need medical attention. (Other prisoners say Coffman really needs to be released.)

They hold their own religious services where they are because they are not allowed to attend any. Each day, they do their own salute to the flag and sing the National Anthem.

Greene was told of these prisoners being treated much more harshly than the others, with some reports of beatings. Other prisoners in the facility have access to flat-screen TVs, medical care, and reading material, though Greene describes this in the report as emphasizing “the supposed cruelty and racial prejudice of the U.S. prison system,” also promoting Nation of Islam and Critical Race Theory. One book prisoners were about to read was “THE NEW JIM CROW: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.” At the same time, one hallway was lined with posters encouraging the freshly-indoctrinated inmates to register to vote. This in itself might be a topic for another day.

So, the J6 political prisoners have been in this place for going on a year, haven’t had their day in court, don’t see their families, don’t see their lawyers, are singled out for bad treatment and don’t even have access to reading material (not that they’d want THAT reading material)? The conclusion of Greene’s report includes this statement: “The congressional visit to the DC jail on November 4 unquestionably proved that there is a twotrack justice system in the United States. This two-tiered system is not based on race, violence or conviction of crime, but politics.”

Greene and Gohmert got to visit with the prisoners for about an hour. Before leaving, Greene prayed with them as a group and told them, “We’ve heard terrible things and I want you to know that Congressman Gohmert and I have basically refused to back down on the issue.” They said they had not lost hope. As the delegation was escorted out, they chanted, “U-S-A! U-S-A!” and then, “LET’S GO BRANDON!”

“The severe treatment of these inmates within the facility cannot be overstated,” the report says. None of these people have had trials or been found guilty of anything. Video shows that some who came into the Capitol that day were waved in by security. Some never even entered at all; they just happened to cross some “invisible line” outside.

Here’s a link to a pdf of the full report. The part specifically covering their visit with the J6 detainees –- including a transcript of the “heated conversation” preceding it –- starts on page 12 and is a must-read.

Sharon Caldwell, wife of one of the detainees who at least is now on house arrest, wrote of the plight of those in prison and offered some specific ways to help.

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/12/how_to_help_j6_defendants.html

“There are many ways you can help a J6er,” she writes. “You may donate to individual defendants, adopt a family in need this holiday season, and get information on how to send cards and letters to those incarcerated or under house arrest. Prayers, cards and letters provide tremendous joy, hope and strength to those affected. Here’s how to get mail to them.

I knew from reports that they were treating Patriots extremely bad, but this is beyond offensive. If I were given the opportunity to administer punishment to those who did these offenses. I would place all of those who did nothing to stop this and especially those who fomented this atrocity, in the same confinement for 2 years. And those who pushed this to happen, if they resided in congress, would spend 5 years so confined.

We want full access to writing to these "political prisoners" - we want to know with whom to start a massive petition to get them out - or at least get them some counsel and let them see their loved ones - and get a haircut - and get some fresh thing sto read

this is absolutely inhumane and unnecessary to the maxx - help us get a petition started and to whom do we sent it.

There has to be a legal way to get justice for these people. This is not America, this is not the way we treat our citizen. How do we fix this?

For the life of me, I cannot understand how this is kept from the public, when it started, what is being done to change and stop it , and how do they get away with it? Have you blasted this on your show, if not, why not?

Where are the senators and congressmen? They should be visiting these prisoners and listening to their complaints. If the complaints appear to be valid, they should be investigated and action should be taken...

I have wondered for some time if Pelosi was an organizer. I don't trust her any farther than we say in farm and rancher than you can throw a bull by the tail.

When did America disappear? What’s next for those people who are more political prisoners than anything else? You and I both know, along with millions of other people what noise would be heard if they were Biden supporters or even BLM people caught up in a group and tossed in jail for any reason. How many ways can you spell hypocrite? Biden is one way! Pilose is another! Don’t believe me?? Look it up— right beside the word “hypocrite” —- that’s what picture—faces — they use for an example! Or should!

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,

Someone who commented on this article said that there can be no stickers on mail sent to prisoners, not even a return address label. This made me research what other rules might exist regarding sending cards to prisoners. This is what I found, and it might be of help to anyone wishing to send the J6 prisoners Christmas cards or other mail.

First, all mail is opened and inspected before being given to inmates.
There can be no stickers, glitter, or decorations added.
Cards cannot have multiple layers, have electronic devices (like musical or singing cards), or be pop-up cards.
Cards cannot include suggestive material, even in satire.
Cash cannot be included, and books/magazines can only come directly from publishers or booksellers (like Amazon).

If you are sending cards for Christmas, please keep these rules in mind so that the people can actually get what you send.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,

This is such a disturbing article. It is incomprehensible that this could occur in America. I opened the list of prisoners at the bottom of the article and I'm going to send them Christmas cards. But it's really not enough. What can citizens do to help these people be released. I'm horrified that even congresspersons couldn't get to see them without a fight. If congressmen/women can't help them, what can ordinary citizens do? And then, of course, is the question, if ordinary people try doing anything, will those ordinary people then be targeted by the FBI? Will they break down my door and haul me off for sending the prisoners Christmas cards? I no longer know what to expect in America.

Please keep writing about this and update us. Also, tell us what to do to help.

I don't watch that much TV news. I have several 'go to' places to read and compare the news, one of them being your articles on Facebook. What TV news that I have seen places the reporters in a very bad light. Most of the time it's not what they report as much as what they don't report. I doubt that they research any of the news they repeat anyway. My 83 year old Mom is ensnared in the continual COVID TV coverage - seems like 3 or 4 times a day. While the TV station talks about verifying articles that people have heard, they don't verify their news or anything substantial. I know Australia has reported on America - it wasn't exactly flattering. Do other countries report on the USA in regard to the taking of political prisoners, raiding of homes, illegal voting, etc.? Do they consider us a different version of China, Russia, etc.? What country will come to our help?

I have a nephew in Germany - Army Infantry and another in the Air Force here in the states. Both have said the military isn't what they've heard it would or should have been. Both are dejected. The new commander-in-chief hasn't helped.

I've been navigating the ranks of the unemployed for the past year. My job was taken over by a foreign tech company out of India. Being in my mid-50's, a computer tech for over 30 years (I had recently worked in the IT Department of a major health provider for about 20 years), I didn't think I would necessarily have that much of an issue getting a job - wrong. Yes, I can work at McDonald's, I think. So many jobs advertised an 'urgent need' for workers. Would you like to guess how many contacted me? None. I followed up with them where I could, contacted HR Departments when I could. The HR Department from one company wasn't even sure they were hiring. One interviewer reminded me that I might have to carry something heavy up a stair well. Another interviewer stated that I didn't live close enough. I listed on one of the national tech hiring agencies. I explained my plight, being outsourced overseas - TAA validation from the US Government, so it did happen, it's documented. I was trying to convey that my current employment status wasn't due to me. The same week I see the hiring person complaining on LinkedIN about how hard it was for her to get established in the USA - being discriminated because she wasn't from 'here'. I haven't received one offer or any information from that hiring agency on jobs since that time. I wasn't complaining as much as I was trying to explain how I got to where I am and that apparently set her off. I guess that's another issue - the hiring agencies are only wanting to hire people they can associate with? - not a good thing for many of us.

The good news is that manufacturing jobs seem to still like us slightly older people. I've had job offers from GM and Chrysler. I'm going with Chrysler once they start production up again - some day soon I hope.

I've been trying to navigate the retirement account path as well. The differences in 401/IRA and associated penalties are enough to drive me crazy. If I had been 1 year older when I was laid off and had my retirement in the 401k, I could have withdrawn penalty free. But... I had moved my retirement to an IRA and I wasn't 55 when I was laid off so the IRS gets to fine me. I know the IRS states the penalties are supposed to 'encourage' investing. If the government would help get me a job or quit doing things that put my job in jeopardy, I'd be investing like crazy. If the government hadn't been engaging in deals with India, if Indiana hadn't been doing the same with overseas countries; I believe the chances of me being laid off would have been much less, if not 0.

There's more to all of this but I've already taken up a lot of space that I normally wouldn't. I appreciate what your doing. The Bible verses on Facebook mean a lot as well. I'm glad I took the trip to Israel when I could in 2010. I know there's some travel again here and there but it's not what it was or should be.
