The "Green New Deal"

February 9, 2019

This week, the world finally got its first look at the grandiose “Green New Deal” plan to transform America by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her “Democratic” Socialist cohorts.  Not since the Titanic set sail from England to the US on its ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912 has such a massive project arrived with so much fawning media coverage, only to sink so quickly and ignominiously due to its creators’ hubris, arrogance and incompetence.

The titanic egos of all involved crashed into the iceberg of reality the second the world got a gander at what they actually want to do.  The widespread reaction – a combination of shock, disbelief and uncontrolled laughter – so spooked the GND’s backers that within hours, it disappeared from AOC’s website (but don’t worry: the Internet is forever, so there will always be copies around for future historians and anyone who needs a good belly laugh.)

The “Green New Deal” is so ridiculously utopian, so utterly devoid of even the slightest consideration of feasibility or affordability, and seems to be such a product of an undergraduate all-night bull session that you’d suspect its creators already started trying to conserve water by drinking their bong water.  Here are just a few of the hilarious highlights:

Rebuild or replace every building in America to make them all energy-efficient (there are about 75 million single family homes in the US and 5.6 million commercial buildings, so if you thought it was hard to get a contractor now…)   Replace airplanes with high-speed trains (good luck, Hawaiians!)  Eliminate all fossil fuels and nuclear power (eliminating clean nuclear plants would actually increase CO2 emissions, but I guess they watched “The Simpsons” while stoned and got scared).  Replace 99% of gas-powered cars with electric cars, which I suppose would be powered by plugging them into outlets connected to windmills.  How to pay for all this?  No problem-o: AOC explains that the Federal Reserve would extend credit (i.e., print money) to a chain of new public banks that would loan people money to rebuild all their structures – effectively making the government everyone’s mortgage holder and therefore, the owner of all homes and businesses in the USA.  A socialist utopia at last!

https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/not-joking-ocasio-cortez-wants-upgrade-replace-every-single-building-us/

I didn’t even mention the little socialist extras tossed in, like high-quality health care for all, universal access to healthy food, guaranteed government jobs and a guaranteed income to everyone who can’t work or “isn’t willing to work.”  Or the planners’ admission that they aren’t certain yet how to eliminate cow farts in 10 years.  Perhaps they could just replace all the cows with herds of unicorns that poop cotton candy.

Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal summed it up well, saying that by the end, she was laughing so hard, she nearly cried; and that if Republicans wanted to forge a fake Democratic bill to show how bonkers the party had become, they couldn’t have done a better job.

…Although blogger Jim Treacher took a pretty hilarious stab at it:

Still, there’s no better fodder for comedy than the real thing:

While mainstream Democrats went into radio silence, Republicans rejoiced at this unforced error.  Axios reporter Jonathan Swan said the “Green New Deal” was “like Christmas and Hanukkah and every other holiday” arriving at once for the Trump reelection campaign.  He said they’d talk about it with glee until the cows come home (if we still have cows by 2020.)

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/the-green-new-deal-is-like-christmas-and-hanukkah-for-the-trump-campaign-jonathan-swan

The bill’s backers tried to dismiss objections by saying that skeptics also said it would be too hard to build the Interstate Highway system.  Two problems: this makes the Interstate Highway system look like a Hot Wheels track.  Plus, we were able to build that because back then, ironically, we didn’t have a bunch of green warriors and EPA bureaucrats protesting and demanding 20 years’ worth of environmental impact studies.  Even Obama admitted that he discovered there were no “shovel-ready jobs” – because it now takes millions of dollars’ worth of time-wasting red tape before you can even buy a shovel.

To give you an idea of just how absurd and impossible the GND plan is, they want to replace all air travel routes between all US cities with high-speed rail.  In 2008, the pioneering leftist utopians (they should be called “Dreamers” instead of the DACA recipients) in California voted to build a high-speed rail line connecting the north, south and the Central Valley, at a cost of $39 billion.

Eleven years later, it’s given a whole new meaning to the phrase, “going nowhere fast.”  After endless problems and delays, it’s been scaled back to a line between just two cities, L.A. and San Francisco, and is still nowhere near complete. The budget has ballooned to $100 billion and is likely to go even higher, considering the earliest it’s now projected to be finished is 2033.  America put a man on the moon in less than 10 years.  Liberals can’t even build a train between two cities in the same state in less than 25 years.  And they think they’re going to connect every city in America by high speed rail within 10 years?  Are they high on speed?!

Besides, if they end all air travel, how will environmentalists get to their climate change conferences at five-star resorts in Switzerland?

For those who want more details (or laughter), David Harsanyi at The Federalist provides even more on this socialist (crack) pipe dream:

http://thefederalist.com/2019/02/07/ten-most-insane-requirements-green-new-deal/

But while it’s fun to guffaw at the childish idiocy of this plan, we need to try to keep a straight face and take some aspects of it seriously.  Remember, this massive plan that would destroy our way of life, kill our economy, crush our freedom and end America as we know and love it is what many miseducated young people really want. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might be far more qualified to be a “Not Ready for Prime Time Player” on “Saturday Night Live” than a Congress member, but enough people actually voted for her to put her into power, and a number of her colleagues backed this boondoggle (although after actually seeing it, some of them are running away from it like scalded cats.)  As enjoyable as it is to ridicule it, we also must make it clear to its young and naïve supporters why this is a perfect example of something they only think they want until they get it, then they’ll instantly regret it.  It’s the face tattoo of government policies.

We should also feel grateful and relieved that this week might go down in history as the week that the air went out of the balloon of the great dream of turning American socialist.  President Trump poked the first pin in it during his State of the Union Address, when he looked his opponents in the eye, forcefully declared that America was founded on liberty and would never be socialist, and forced many of them to stand up and applaud that statement (those who didn’t looked like wayward teenagers being scolded by their dad.)

Then, only two days later, after snarking that Trump was just “scared” of their brilliant socialist plans, the kids showed us their “great leap forward.”  Americans dissolved into laughter, and the plan’s humiliated creators quickly yanked it from the Internet.  Let’s pray that the damage is permanent and irreparable.

Okay, kids, you’ve finally seen what socialism looks like in action.  Do you really want to go through with getting that plan tattooed on your face now?

I'm afraid the philosophy, aim and goals of the Democratic Party (could be more accurately named the Global Socialist Party) has many backers from multiple generations from the 60's who are now the administrators and power brokers of the university indoctrination centers which proclaim a utopia "New World" like system of which they believe is their calling and passion. The hate for President Trump or any conservative who embraces the Constitution is just the front and disguise for what their real aim is which is to destroy America and bring about their achievement of a global government.

The people in the district that voted this little communist into office better think hard if they did not vote against her when she was running for office. Shame on the folks who let someone like this get into power because they apathetically stayed home! She knows nothing, apparently, about ANYTHING she discusses. I hope the "Chambers of Government" will disregard anything she dreams up! Oh--that would be "the Senate, the House, and the President"---right?

Sir, I had that Rail Idea many years ago and I as well did have a plan to pay for it; that is one of the ideas that I did not have an issue with, My Problem is that there is No One to share My Ideas With, Can You Help?
    -
I do have a multitude of REAL Issues with this insanity! One you strip all the rest of what we get and NEED out of Crude Oil that Fuel is no longer suspended and can not be pumped back into the ground, so just exactly what do you do with it - burning it in a productive manner simply makes sense, so the issue there is in limiting the environmental impact. We have seen great strides toward such over the course of my lifetime and it most certainly did not require a Massive Expansion of Government!
    -
This discussion needs to begin with some basic truths, America is not great because of our Military it is a far different reality. Coming out of World War II the world moved to that carbon based economy; the world reserve currency, and much that "Greatness" was based in that movement- the Middle East had the oil reserves and capacity but they lacked something far more needed, they lacked that means to feed their population, many nations lacked that most fundamental need. America was caught up in that Nuclear Race, that Threat and where were those Missile Silos built? Whj did Russia, Stalin, take over Ukraine and starve the people there - all for that same purpose - Ukraine is that Central European Grain Belt, those Missile Silos were built across the American Grain Belt - those Leaders in the Middle East needed our Grain to feed their people and the American Government demanded that those Transactions be carried forth with Oil that Oil be bought and sold with US Dollars - we control the price much as we control their food. In 1980 we sold the Russian Government some 22 billion bushels of beans!
So what does this have to do with this Green Energy Nonsense and crude oil? Look at those grain yields coming out of World War II, through the 50's, the 60's, the 70's and current rates; they steadily grew as something improved - Fertilizers, fertilizers manufactured from the nitrogen and phosphorus we reclaim during that refining process, that we refine from that natural gas - without Crude Oil and Natural Gas and access to those base elements there is no way to feed the population on this planet. So just how doe we even begin to accept such an irresponsible plan for the future? Why is it that the media has not brought this truth forward?
As well, where would those soft silicates come from, all those plastic bottles that food is packaged in - I remember the glass bottles that milk and such came in , a Sanitary Nightmare - do we really wish to go back to that? All the plastic bags that food comes to our store in, gone - Ray Krok, the founder of McDonalds was a chemical engineer that pioneered Injection Molded Packaging and saw the impact it could have on Carry Out - take all that away! Look at that meat, packaged on styrofoam, wrapped in cellophane that we will no longer have access to. Just how do we get that product to market, those big rigs will not run on Electric, the motors to generate the electric to drive that train are massive for a reason. This entire discussion is not based in reality and the media refuses to ask those Most Needed Questions.
Clothing - again very reliant upon Crude Oil, those soft silicates that make up those polyesters that allow the clothing to stretch, to breath and last far longer than natural spun textiles. That fertilizer that allows production rates allowing animals to be fed better diets, sheep need proper nutrition to produce wool, crops, Cotton and Flax need proper nutrition to grow. And again, all that must be transported to the factory to be processed and moved through the manufacturing process, then it must be transported to the store to be bought and sold. Again we are not having that proper discussion that must be the proper process!
Solar Cells, that means of converting sun energy to electric power, they are mostly created from hard silicates that is gained from the Crude Oil refining process, just how do we as they demand we do. Much of this entire industry is necessitated on the access and use of plastic tubing that is produced from that soft silicate. How is any of it possible without Crude Oil?
Building material - they propose we tear down and rebuild all those Structure and make them Green Efficient - really, how many have a Mortgage Loan, and the bank will simply stand back and allow this to be torn down, The people own Massive Value in those Mortgages through Freddie and Fannie and we should simply tolerate such? How does that family pay on that original mortgage while they pay on that New Construction Financing? When will these people be asked those Much Needs Questions. That construction, that demand to make the structure more thermal insulated, where does that insulation come from? Fiberglass is that product of Hard Silicates from that refining process, that expanding foam is the product of the chemical gained from that refining process; just how is any of that possible if we never bring the crude oul out of the ground? Please, someone get an answer to these very important questions!
    -
This entire plan is based on outright insane Garbage and the people are not being given access to that much needed Proper Discussion. As I began, when will someone demand that we have that proper discussion, one that informs the people of all that we have because of Crude Oil and Natural Gas? It is one thing for the Democrats and their Media Propagandist to hide the truth so that they can push this nonsense forward, if they had to campaign as the Actual Adult in the room, telling the Truth in all their Vote Buying Garbage they could not get elected; the problem I have is that the Republicans refuse to step up and Be that Adult in the Room!
    -
Mr. Huckabee, Governor; I have only scratched the surface of all that we depend on Crude Oil For, when do the people get that proper adult discussion so we can make proper decisions, Just when does that change?

Congresswoman OAC needs to start her own canned product line called "Laughing Stock". Its main ingredient needs be American-made cow dung! Be sure to put an "Open with Caution" note on the label because the contents could be gaseous causing minor sounds of expulsion along with complementary stinky smells.

P.S. OAC's idea of eliminating cows is not the way to get the "bull" out of America!

How many times does a country have to fall apart after trying the Socialist system for them to open there eyes (try Venezuela) ? I was also wondering about the gutting and/or rebuilding of every structure in America to fit the energy-saving regulations. Does that mean that we have to tear down and rebuild historical buildings as well? What about George Washington's home, or Thomas Jefferson's Monticello? Independence Hall? The White House? Will they all have to come down? That will be very sad. I'm a big believer on the preservation of history. I'd love to know what you think. Thank you....Cathy G.

I can't help but wonder how the trucking industry will survive if we take away all diesel engine semis that move our goods from the produce factories to the markets across the country. No electric vehicle has the power to move that much product, and trains take longer (high powered or not). Plus, there are a lot of drivers and independent contractors who will lose their businesses and livelihood if they were to even try to bring this to life. I don't think anyone has thought about them and how they feel about it. Truck drivers make up a large percentage of the American heartland. I know of 2 large truck driving corporations in Northwest Arkansas. They employee a few thousand employees that would need to find other jobs. Funny that no one has mentioned them in the news. If you could give a shout out to them and let them know that they are not forgotten, that would be an enormous help. The people in Congress that see just who exactly they would be hurting and not just look at the numbers. Numbers can be dismissed. Thank you for caring.....Cathy G.

I appreciate your blog.....your sense of humor, your insights, etc.

I just want to make you aware that one of the ads that appears on your Newsletter is a scam. There's a picture of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Under it are the words "Royal Kingdom Confirms 'Unfortunate' News, with the website truesweetsecrets.com. It's a come-on for Meghan's face cream, Azur Derma, and they will indeed send it to you when you pay the shipping. There is a very small print at the bottom of the order form, listing Conditions, which I imagine many people don't even see. One has eight days to cancel, or the company will begin debiting the bank account used to pay the shipping. My account was debited $99.95, and I've been unsuccessful ever since in having that reversed. They say they have no record of my bank account. My bank can't get it for me either. I'd like you to consider taking that ad down, so more people aren't taken advantage of.

    Thank you for your consideration!

So doe this mean that the millions of citizens who enjoy power boating and related sports will be banned from those recreational activities. I can see how that will help make us a more just society (not). Peoples investment in thier boats will go to zero value immediately. There would be many similar consequences that have not been contemplated by these nitwits. But like Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Fidel and others, they don’t care about the “people” they care only about achieving their nefarious goals no matter what the cost. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Huckenator, you have nailed it again. They are working overtime to expose their own lack of genuine caring about what might actually be good for the country and simply wanting it their own way without compromise. And their non-compromising is just fine with me because they have not even offered a plan worth considering for anything. Even thinking of sitting at a table to talk with the Democrat leadership leaves me feeling like I need a bath! Give them enough rope and they will hang themselves just as they are attempting to make AOC look the fool with her silly submittence. She really is the gift that keeps giving. With her apparent lack of character, the main stream media is being made a fool as well as she will ultimately crumble under this attention unless she submits to the House leadership like a good little peon.

Re: "The Green New Deal" - As preposterous and humorous as these proposals are, let's not forget these people are serious, and believe every word of what they're saying. After decades of swallowing propaganda dished out in primary and secondary schools and universities, the MSM, the movies and TV, etc. etc., their sheer ability to say these things out loud testify to how far we have fallen. We've been asleep at the switch, and are reaping what we have sown. So after the laughter dies down, let's get down on our knees, asking God for His mercy in this window of opportunity He has given us in our President and others (like you, Mike), who are fighting to retain the freedom we have shamefully taken for granted.
