Today's Edition: 6 minute read
As George Orwell once observed, “There are some ideas so absurd that only an intellectual could believe them.” One such idea is the notion that someone who was born male and went through puberty as a male has no unfair advantage over female athletes as long as his/her/xir testosterone levels have been suppressed by hormone treatments.
This absurd notion has become the closest thing to Holy Writ that the left has these days, and anyone who dares question it is publicly pilloried for their “transphobia.” Nevertheless, the absurdity of it, and the unfairness to female athletes have become so blatant that some people are finally defying the thought police and standing up to state the obvious. These complaints by female athletes and their parents have goaded the Education Department into launching a formal investigation into whether this is a violation of the Title IX law against sex discrimination.

Prayers today for six Philadelphia police officers wounded in a gun battle and eight-hour standoff yesterday. The gunman finally surrendered just after midnight. It all reportedly began when police tried to serve a drug-related warrant at a multifamily home, and the resident opened fire. The shooter is reported to have an extensive record of gun-related convictions, none of which apparently prevented him from getting a gun.
It was bad enough that police had to deal with an armed suspect firing multiple rounds, but their job was hampered even more by some in the crowd who got in the way by taunting the cops, throwing things at them and shoving them. Let’s hope they were identified and will be given some time in a cool, dark place to think about why interfering with a police officer in the line of duty is illegal.
But it wasn’t just some miscreants in Philly who don’t know how to behave in public. Sen. Kamala Harris is taking flak for trying to politicize the shooting to promote her gun control agenda while the standoff was still going on and before anyone knew anything about the circumstances.
Ironically, that kind of behavior is often called “shooting your mouth off,” “shooting first and asking questions later” or “shooting yourself in the foot.” Maybe some candidates should consider imposing some “mouth control” on themselves.
The Epstein Autopsy
By Mike Huckabee
The autopsy of pedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein revealed that he had multiple breaks in his neck bones, including one break that is more common in victims of murder by strangulation. Even though it can happen to people who hang themselves, particularly older people, you can bet this will help feed both the wild conspiracy theories and the understandable skepticism that is raging around this story.
This also won’t help quell any rumors, but just for the record: It was reported that Epstein had a painting of Bill Clinton in the Oval Office wearing a blue dress and red high heels. But it might mean nothing more than he had a really bad taste in art. It was either the original or a copy of a known painting by a quirky New York artist. Please note: there is no suggestion that Clinton actually posed for it. Here’s more on that “story,” but fair warning: it includes a photo of the painting that you will never be able to unsee.
Let them in
By Mike Huckabee
Israel’s government is considering whether to allow Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who have become notorious for anti-Israel statements, to visit Israel this weekend. There are certainly plenty of reasons to deny them entry, but I hope they will be allowed to visit.
From their many public statements about Israel, it’s evident that they are utterly ignorant of what it’s really like and get most of their information about it from blatantly anti-Semitic sources. Maybe seeing the situation firsthand will force them to open their eyes, and minds, a little. It could help them to learn that Israel is the only Western-style democracy in the Middle East and a nation that welcomes people of all backgrounds and protects their freedom to practice their faiths, something that’s certainly not true for Jews and Christians in many nations around Israel. So I hope that their negative misconceptions about Israel will be overturned by giving them a friendly welcome.
Although I’m sure it would be tempting for Israeli officials to meet them at the airport and say, “Send them back where they came from: America!”
##Appellation##, I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:
The NRA responded to Sen. (and Democratic Presidential candidate, as will soon become obvious) Kirsten Gillibrand’s attacks on them and calls for new gun control laws by releasing a letter she wrote to the NRA in 2008. It lists all the ways that she agrees with the NRA on gun rights and the Second Amendment. The NRA calls it a “love letter.”
It’s a stark illustration of just how far to the left current Democrats feel they have to run to win in the primaries. Moderates just don’t cut it these days. For instance, Gillibrand once praised Joe Biden, and when she attacked him in the debates, he pointed out her flip-flop and asked, “What changed?” He should know: the primary electorate veered so far left that he’s also having to renounce his previous moderate, law-and-order stances.
Under the circumstances, I know who would be the perfect Democratic candidate for President, but unfortunately, he’s dead. It would be Groucho Marx, who once declared, “These are my principles! If you don’t like them, I have others.” Also, his name was Marx, so…perfect.
The Glastonbury Festival, a five-day music fest promoting environmentalism and fighting climate change, has ended. Photos hit the press of the aftermath: a mountain of granola bar wrappers and other litter covering the landscape so deep that it was compared to the aftermath of a tornado hitting a trash dump.
I have a suggestion for them: next year, do four days of rock acts, then let day five be a Trump rally. The people coming to that will pick up all the trash and leave it cleaner than they found it.
The latest Economist/YouGov poll shows that Joe Biden’s once-formidable lead among Democratic Presidential contenders has dropped to only 21% support, barely ahead of Elizabeth Warren with 20%. All this proves two things:
1. Joe Biden always starts out a lot stronger than he finishes. And…
2. As I’ve been telling you for over a decade, polls taken months before anyone votes are not worth a bucket of spit.
