There’s an old saying that fanatics eventually become the thing they despise.  For instance, I remember when liberals used to despise censorship and anti-Semitism.  Those were the days!

Well, add another one of those transformations to the list: Democrats never tire of accusing Republicans of trying to “disenfranchise” various groups.  If you remove dead people from the voter rolls (admittedly, a key Democratic constituency in some places) or ask voters to show an easily-obtained ID to prevent fraud, you’re trying to keep minorities from voting.

Yet in Colorado, where the pot-promoting left has taken over the state government, legislators want to join a push to give the state’s Electoral votes to whoever wins the national popular vote.  This, of course, is part of the endless tantrum being thrown by Democrats over Hillary Clinton winning the popular vote but losing in the Electoral College – which is exactly what the Founders intended, because they didn’t want the national government dominated by a handful of heavily-populated states.

This effort will likely get thrown out as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, but in the meantime, the Colorado Democratic lawmakers are actively trying to disenfranchise their own state’s voters.  Since Los Angeles alone has about twice the population of Colorado (and is so liberal, it voted for Hillary by 72%), no matter how Coloradans vote, even if a Republican wins by 40 points, their Electoral votes would go to whatever wackadoodle leftist California backs.

But wait: it gets worse. Polls show that a majority of Coloradans do not back giving away their Electoral votes to more populous states.  But the state legislature doesn’t care; they refused to put the matter to a public vote.

So in the name of “making sure all votes count,” they are not only giving away the Electoral votes of their own state’s citizens, they’re also denying the people their right to vote on whether to allow their Electoral votes to be taken away.  I’d say that’s disenfranchisement to the third power.  They have truly become exactly what they claim to despise.

With gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

We place far too much emphasis on the prestige of getting into certain universities

By Mike Huckabee

I’m sure you’ve heard about the elite college admissions bribery investigation that’s snared a number of rich parents, including CEOs, college coaches and actresses Lori Laughlin of “Full House” and Felicity Huffman, who was arrested. Her husband, actor William H. Macy, was reportedly not charged. (Is it just a coincidence that she starred on “Desperate Housewives” and he stars on “Shameless”?)

Prosecutors say that between 2011 and 2019, well-off parents paid an admissions consultant a total of $25 million to get their kids into top universities, including Yale, Stanford, Wake Forest, Georgetown, the University of Texas, USC and UCLA. The scam sometimes involved passing the students off as athletes (even Photoshopping their faces onto athletes’ bodies – I’ll have to see if TBN can do that for me!), then claiming they were injured and couldn’t play after they were accepted. Loughlin and her fashion designer husband Mossimo Giannulli allegedly paid $500,000 to pass their two daughters off as USC crew team recruits. Neither girl even participated in rowing, although the family is up the creek without a paddle now. You'd think that for $500,000, they could get their kids in the honest, traditional way: by buying the school a new gym.

Self-defeating tweet

By Mike Huckabee

Remember Ben Rhodes, the Obama aide with a degree in creative writing who bragged about how easy it was to create a media echo chamber and sell ignorant young liberal journalists on banana oil like the Iran nuclear deal?  Well, like AOC, he’s the gift that keeps on giving…to Republicans.

Finnish government collapses...why it matters

By Mike Huckabee

Don’t look now – seriously, the media really don’t want you to look – but Finland, the “Democratic” Socialists’ most favored nation, their example of the country America should emulate, just saw its government collapse and its Prime Minister and Cabinet resign due to the unsustainable costs of universal health care.  This happened last week.  Did you hear about it in the news?  Didn’t think so.

This comes less than a year after Finland killed its experiment with a “universal basic income,” replacing it with mandatory job training and work requirements for people on government benefits.

There’s more at the link, along with a few ironic tweets from Bernie Sanders, lavishing praise on Finland.  In one, he demands, “If Finland can provide everyone with health care, send everyone to college for free and provide affordable child care, why can’t the US?”

Well, Finland can’t.  Neither can you, Bernie.

Incidentally, I just checked Bernie’s two Twitter feeds, for Senator and Presidential candidate.  As expected, there was a lot of ranting against billionaires and millionaires (he is one of the latter, by the way, and somehow became one while he was a socialist “public servant,” as so many socialist public servants do), and about completing his mission to transform America with a lot of big government handout programs.

But strangely, not a word about the collapse of the government of Finland due to the exact policies he’s espousing.  In fact, I scrolled all the way back to last week, and the word “Finland” never appeared – even though that’s obviously what he wants to transform America into.  But at least he can take solace in knowing that with people like him in Congress, he’s already made a lot of headway in turning the US into a place where the cost of government is unsustainable.

The February jobs number

By Mike Huckabee

Friday, the Labor Department reported that only 20,000 new jobs were created in February, when Wall Street had estimated the figure would be 185,000.  The White House dismissed the number as a “fluke.”  But usually, the only math in Washington that’s that far out of sync with reality are Congressional estimates of how much their latest government program will cost.

Fear not, though, because there could be all sorts of reasons for that low job number, even that the government shutdown interfered with the job of counting the jobs.  Don’t be surprised if the number leaps back up next month, when the post-Christmas layoffs end and the spring hiring begins and the job counters are all back on the job.  But as the New York Post’s John Crudele reminds us at the link, you should take all government job stats with a grain of salt because a lot of it is just pure guesswork.

Besides, even though only 20,000 jobs were allegedly created (or that’s how many the government got counted, at least), somehow, unemployment dropped by a tenth of a point; the U6 unemployment rate (people with part-time jobs because they can’t find full-time jobs) plummeted from 8.1 to 7.3%; and hourly wages shot up by 3.4%.  That is, if the government’s numbers are accurate, which they most assuredly are not.  This is where we got the saying that if all the economists in Washington were laid end-to-end, they still wouldn’t point in the same direction.

Read Crudele’s explanation of how the government counts jobs and see if it fills you with confidence about the idea of the feds taking over your disease diagnoses.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez jaw-dropper of the day

By Mike Huckabee

“We live in a society where if you don’t have a job, you are left to die.”

Reality: The federal government alone spends about $4 trillion a year, and 59% of that goes to a massive array of social safety net programs.  That doesn't even include state and local social programs or private, community and church charities.

Fun observation from the linked article: If AOC’s claim that Americans with no jobs are left to die is true, then by helping to create record-low black unemployment, President Trump is saving countless black lives. I’m sure she’ll thank him publicly for that.

Good news

By Mike Huckabee

Here’s something we don’t hear enough of these days: good news.  If you’re with UnitedHealth insurance, your prescription drug prices might be coming down.  UnitedHealth is expanding on President Trump’s move to ban the drug price rebates that go to middlemen and give them to consumers instead.  There are more details at the link.

One important detail: Congress would have to pass a law to mandate any more than what Trump ordered, so at this point, any more than that has to be voluntary.  The fact that UnitedHealth is acting voluntarily should put pressure on other insurers and drug companies to follow suit.  See what can happen when you have a President who actually leads?

Rep. Collins says THERE WILL BE ACCOUNTABILITY for protecting Hillary

By Mike Huckabee

Republican Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia was just getting started last Friday when he released Bruce’s Ohr’s unredacted closed-door testimony before Congressional committees. On Tuesday, he released Lisa Page’s testimony, close to 400 pages’ worth. And he promises much more to come.

I had some questions regarding his release of the Ohr testimony, as it seemed so easy all of a sudden to release information that had been hidden for many months. Members of these committees have known since late last summer just how the FBI protected Hillary Clinton and persecuted Donald Trump. Why wasn’t the Ohr testimony released sooner? But maybe I’ve been looking a gift horse in the mouth and should just be glad that it was finally done.  Afterwards, there was not so much as a whimper from congressional Democrats over it (they've got other problems right now), so Collins is moving forward and releasing more records. This is happening at last, and should proceed at a steady pace.

Lordy mercy i don’t think I’ve ever seen our government or the world for that matter in such a sad horrible mess. At this point in the game I just wish Jesus would come and we could all make the great escape. ??????? I know the Lord isn’t willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance so I guess we’re gonna have to wait a while longer. I love to read your emails Mike. You make nasty medicine a whole lot easier to swallow ????. Please keep the faith and keep’em coming and as always you and your family are in my prayers. ????

I live in Colorado and believe that having the Electoral College votes of Colorado to go to the popular vote is going to backfire on them. Hillary won the popular vote because of voter fraud, not because of more actual voters. Voter rolls are being cleaned up, such as Los Angeles County has taken over 1.5 million off of theirs. Also, as shown in Broward County, voter fraud will be caught and stopped. Plus the fact that there are various movements of walking away, leaving the Democratic Party, so there will be even less actual voters voting Democrat. Republicans will have the last laugh.
