CNN spreads fake news again

December 9, 2017 |

If the mainstream media could devote just one-tenth the energy to fact-checking that they do to wailing indignantly about President Trump’s accusing them of spreading “fake news,” maybe they wouldn’t be spreading so much fake news.  This past week brought such a silo of fake news, I’m stunned they managed to get it all out so fast without renting a John Deere manure spreader.

In the space of just seven days, media outlets managed to befoul their own reputations multiple times.  To hit just the highlights: Brian Ross of ABC got barred from ever covering Trump again by falsely claiming that Trump ordered Mike Flynn to contact the Russians before the election (it was afterward.)  Then the New York Times claimed that an email proved former deputy national security adviser K.T. McFarland lied about Russia helping Trump win (it didn’t.)  There was a false report that Robert Mueller subpoenaed Trump’s Deutsch Bank loan records.  Then on Friday, CNN went wall-to-wall with a “bombshell” story claiming that Donald Trump Jr. received an email on September 4th of last year, offering him advance access to WikiLeaks’ trove of DNC emails.  But the bombshell blew up in their faces when it was revealed that the email was actually sent on September 14th, one day after WikiLeaks released the emails publicly, so it wasn’t advance notice at all.

CNN says the reporter will not be disciplined because he followed proper procedures in citing multiple (unnamed, of course) sources.  It’s not his fault that all his sources were totally unreliable and he couldn’t be bothered to double-check using resources readily available to anyone online.  And they admit this is their standard procedure!  Yet they get furious when Trump calls them “fake news.”

Apologists for this kind of journalistic malpractice try to brush it off as simple, honest “mistakes.”  If they were just mistakes, you’d think by sheer chance, they would be helpful to Republicans about half the time. Yet the mistakes always seem to make Republicans look bad.  And when they do have to eat crow, they never call it a retraction, just a “clarification” or a “correction.”  Since I write about news every day, and on incredibly rare occasions get something wrong, let me see if I can help "clarify" these terms for them:

When I ran an obvious parody the other day and realized some people thought it might be real, I “clarified” that it was indeed a parody (those poor comedy writers can’t make up stuff any crazier than the real news these days.)  When I realized last week that I had mistakenly typed the name of the former head of an agency instead of the current head, I “corrected” the story by editing it to fill in the correct name.  However, if I’d come out with a load of slanderous buffalo chips so completely lacking in facts that it made a Harry Potter novel look like the Encyclopedia Britannica, and then I had to take it back lock, stock and barrel of baloney before it tanked the stock market completely, that would be a “retraction.”

Maybe somewhere amidst all the classes in how to be a crusading leftwing propagandist, today’s journalism professors could set aside 10 minutes to teach those terms.  Possibly devote a few minutes to other outmoded concepts, such as "reliable sources" and "fact-checking."  If not for the sake of their own industry’s reputation or the interest of the public in knowing the truth, then at least think of the toll this endless cycle of sudden elation and crushing disappointment must be taking on poor Joy Behar.

Is it too much to imagine that these merchants of fake news are actually demonised, Gov. Huckabee? They really need some very serious deliverance prayers you know. It is very difficult to imagine any sane reason for this relentless, mindless and fake news.

    Mr. Huckabee,
Your comments seem to indicate that these businesses could do a better job of reporting if they went back to school. They do not need educated; they are doing exactly what they have planned to do. We need our Congress to to pass and have legislation enforced that will penalize and remove these false reporters.

Perhaps you are expecting too much of CNN
In Days of Yore when I read non-political stories, about which I might have known something, I found that news reporters simply cannot get anything right. Regardless of politics. Reporting actual hard facts is quite inconsistent with a reporter's outlook on life.

Fake news gets more attention? Real news is boring? It is refreshing to hear news that is not followed by your "misspoke, misprint, opps!" It is disgusting to see all the lies, general unreal, diatribes that our "news force" can churn out. I would jerk all their passes and let them try to get real jobs. Can you imagine their interviews? "I listen to undocumented sources, I print whatever the people against the government want me to print and you don't think you can trust me to work for your company? LOL

    Dear Mike,
I used to really respect journalists. Now because it seems they are wrong 95% of the time, I do not watch or read or listen to fake news.
It really began with me when my AF fighter pilot son died in Afghanistan and the news said the Taliban shot him down- NOT true. Other outlets said he was an Army sergeant and he was an AF Captain!!!

Well said, Sir. Main stream media has great difficulty differentiating between "real" as in verified, and citing named sources, and "fake" as in unverified, sources unnamed. And it comes as no great surprise that ALL of the "fake" turns out to be vilifying either the President or members of his family. SMH because I can remember when news was unbiased, though admittedly I am older than dirt.

There ought to be a Law:

Effective immediately, anyone, as part of a major Media concern, will be fined ONE Million $, Fired, and lose any and all rights to work for any Media company again if they report FAKE News! All Media News must be researched to be known that they are, in fact, reporting TRUE News; NOT FAKE NEWS.

Now, that should solve the problem FOR SURE... Right? :)

So, let's pass the Law to get it done!

    NOW! :)

Having watched Russian propaganda throughout my journalism(hi school and Jr.college) in the late 30's and early 40's, I see a strange similarity. I believe fake news is too close to Russian propaganda to be anything but the same education inspired propaganda. 8

    I love you Mike but you've made an OOOOOOOPS - - - - - - -

I met Mike Rowe after he appeared on the Huckabee Show and asked him to sing something for me since I knew he's classically trained. He puffed up his chest and launched into - - - - - Sixteen Tons ! ! ! ! ! ! !

I never expected that and told him he's too young to know that song but I loved it and his rendition of it - - - - - - -

    back to your oops; his "new" show (Somebody's gotta do it) is from 2014 and 2015 - - - - - - -

    it's only new to TBN, it's repeats for us Mike Rowe fans - - - - - - - -

    keep smiling Mike from a former Huckabee Show regular and alumnus of Israel Experience 2012 - - - - - - -

Thanks for the "clarification" of recent fake news, Mike.
Question: If I was late with an English essay in high school, I would pick a topic along with a couple of facts and insert a bunch of buffalo chips around that in order to hand it in. It wasn't quality at all. Aren't today's reporters doing just that. Professional? I think not.
What happened to Who, What, Where, Why and When? Reports based on these elements were informative and sound.
Thank you Mike for upholding this standard!

I read your comments faithfully every day. It is very unfortunate for you that the American People do not have a more favorable opinion of you. I am of the opinion you would make a great President. You are really attuned to our world, and I thank you for supporting President Trump the way you do. He will make America Great Again if given half a chance.

Thank you Governor for being a God respecting American looking after the greatest nation ever. Thank you for supporting our "savior" President Trump and his family. I believe God gave you and Mr trump and others as yourself "one" more chance to save America as it was intended. I don't know how to singularize the Left as they are a collection of Communism, Socialism, Liberal progressives, Fascists,Nazi's and their "only" concern is to rule the world with one single central corrupt government and we "know" where that goes, if America falls, so does the rest of the world. You can see the damage the LYING MUSLIM HOAX did in 8 years, it brought us to our knees economically in unsustainable debt as outlined in Alyinsky's doctrine. he corrupted our most esteemed agency, the FBI with the aide of his comrades. Do not let up, continue to flood the "Truth" as our enemies within control 98% of all media with their steady stream of Omissions, Lies, Mistruths and Slandering which is their "only" narrative, BRING DOWN ALL OPPOSITION NO MATTER HOW" just as the Islam cult does and believes. Never, Never give up as this is yours and Mr Trumps purpose from God. Mr Trump did not realize just how ""HUGE" the Swamp was/is and from "both" parties. They have sucked Americans dry for years, truth and honesty are their enemies as a cross is to a vampire. I wish I could do more other than "never" give in to them, they "are" the enemy within! GOD BLESS AND STAY STRONG, REMIND MR TRUMP TO STAY AWAY FROM THE TRIVIA AND CONTINUE HIS PATH OF HONESTY AND TRUTH! He's going to need it to serve 4 terms!

It really amazes me that the media is as arrogantly stupid as they are, thinking that they are SOOOO knowledgeable and that the "unwashed" "deplorable s" are so far beneath their their own self-exalted awareness and self-righteous bias, that they (the media) can irresponsibly write false narratives and believe that it will not catch up with them. The people know that our president is RIGHT! Watch Roy Moore's election results. The TRUTH is always vindicated in time. In time Judge Moore will also be vindicated as was Judge Thomas and Herman Kane. You cannot cover the truth forever or break it; it always surfaces. What's right is Right!

You are an amazing master of saying something so true yet with such class and humor it just makes me happy. And hearing the news today doesn’t do that very often.
I absolutely love the comment about Joy Behar. So often I find myself thinking what I would love to say to her. Like “and this is why men with integrity don’t meet with women alone...except their wives.
You admitted you Democrats are “dogs and know it’ laughing about it. So why such surprise when all of these sexuall misconduct charges come out?
But then I remember we have men and women like you who never tire of being the voice of reason and “Truth” in the darkness out there.
    Thank you Govenor Huckabee!

TNN (Total Nonsense News) stopped reporting responsibly and accurately years ago. News networks have some responsibility in reporting accurately when this country experiences life threatening events such as fires, floods, earthquakes and manmade events like bombs or mass murders. However, the media has taken an ugly turn over the past 25 years. The mantra of the left wing media has become, politics first, helping American citizens second. I saw this first hand on CNN when Katrina hit New Orleans. It became a Bush bashing event rather than using their tools to help those poor people who had lost their homes in the floods. These news organizations have a responsibility report the news fairly, accurately, and to provide helpful information to those who require help. Unfortunately, now they get up in the morning and plan the “Trump bashing talking point” for the day which is then
echoed throughout the day. I am not sure when the leftist news took this sad turn but I think it began with the Clintons.

Thanks, Governor! Getting the straight scoop and some humor sure beats my Sarasota Herald Tribune newspaper, which at $43.00 a month for liberal news and the comics isn't worth it. I just cancelled the "print" edition and will check out Garfield and Snoopy on line...and, of course the TRUTH news from Mike Huckabee. Keep up your battle station with your blog and on Fox News. There's an old saying,"If you give a man enough rope, pretty soon he will hang himself with it". I believe the news agencies and those that hang on every word they say better be checking just how much rope they have left. It's really sad to see those who hate so much that they wind up hurting themselves and the really sad thing is they don't even realize they are doing it. They want to always blame someone else. of course, that has been going on since the beginning of time. Adam blamed God for the woman He gave him. Sad ,really. Very sad.

Well Governor, these poor media types have really taken a beating over the last couple of years. So much of their reporting has been so out right false, unsupported, and biased, that the public doesn't know what to believe. The MSM was so wrong about the election and President Trump, they were struggling to keep their heads above water. However, it appears they didn't learn from their mistakes and continue to make those same mistakes over and over again. Clearly, they deserve whatever consequences they bring upon themselves! I'm astounded by their stupidity and totally blown away at their continued ignorance of the obvious failures of the leftist agenda. It takes a special kind of stupid to continue down the leftist path, without a clue, tripping and falling over an endless supply of reasons to change their direction. I guess the saying is right, "You can't fix stupid". Love ya Gov., keep up the good work!
