Oh, no --- The never-ending confirmation process

When it comes to the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, it’s just one thing after another.

After wavering Judiciary Committee member Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake announced that he would vote in support of Kavanaugh, the drama escalated, with a group of angry women confronting him in an elevator.  Ana Maria Achila of the nonprofit Center for Popular Democracy Action told him, “What you are doing is allowing someone who actually violated a woman to sit on the Supreme Court.  That is not tolerable.”

Another woman said through her tears, “You’re telling all women they don’t matter, that they should just stay quiet because if they tell you what happened to them, you’re going to ignore them.”

When I hear statements like these, I want to cry, too, but for very different reasons.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/politics/2018/09/28/jeff-flake-confronted-protesters-elevator/v1gr7xxdeHKNXJxqVGkoHJ/story.html

Just before the committee vote was to be taken, a group of Sen. Flake’s Democratic colleages that included Delaware Sen. Chris Coons cornered him in the anteroom to beg him not to vote for Kavanaugh without an FBI investigation.  And though he ended up voting for him, it was with a huge caveat.

He said he would vote for Kavanaugh on the final floor vote only if the FBI were first brought in for a “limited” (a week at most, and just on the claim before them) FBI investigation, just to show that due diligence had been exercised.  Chairman Grassley pointed out that the committee did not have the power to order that –- they could only take it to Senate leadership to delay the full floor vote and appeal to President Trump to initiate an investigation –- but that’s where they are now.

At this writing, it looks as though the Democrats are getting themselves another delay.  God knows what they will try to do with it.  It’s bound to involve more unfounded accusations and more calls for more investigation. They are not going to let this end, even if/when Kavanaugh is confirmed.

But Sen. Lindsay Graham, who strongly supports Kavanaugh and distinguished himself in Thursday’s hearing by leveling at the Democrats a richly deserved public shaming, took this good-naturedly, at least in public, saying to reporters, “This is called democracy...this is Jeff Flake being very sincere, and what he’s trying to do –-  I respect the hell out of this –- (is) trying to get some Democrats to buy in.  Will a week matter?  And some of them said it would.  Some of ‘em want to just go on and on and on, but if he can get a few of ‘em to say a week longer would make it a better process...”

It’s not known how the FBI could add to our understanding of an allegation that’s 36 years old; probably the most they could do is gather some testimony from the others who claim not to remember even being at such a party.  (In breaking news, Mark Judge has said he will cooperate, if his testimony can be given privately rather than in an open hearing.  And Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana has announced that there is agreement now on how to proceed with a further background check.  Details to come.)  There are a few Senators still on the fence who might decide in favor of Kavanaugh if they were more confident about the process –- a process the Democrats deliberately messed with by holding Dr. Ford’s letter as a political ace in the hole when they’d had since the end of July to call for an investigation.  It’s far too late for this to be considered a good process, for anyone.

Here are a few late-breaking updates to the Kavanaugh hearing story:

It appears that Democrats on the Judiciary Committee weren’t the only ones on Capitol Hill who spent Thursday behaving like lawless, partisan juvenile delinquents.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/someone-on-capitol-hill-just-doxxed-republican-sens-mike-lee-orrin-hatch-and-lindsey-graham

Kavanaugh’s high school friend Mark Judge sent a letter to the Committee, saying he did not want to be forced to testify publicly because he is a recovering alcoholic and cancer survivor who’s struggling with anxiety and depression, and he had left town to escape the media hounding him.  But he declared under penalty of felony that he did not remember the events described by Dr. Ford and never saw Kavanaugh act in the way she described.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/09/28/mark-judge-kavanaughs-friend-responds-to-fords-testimony-prior-to-key-vote.html

Also, the American Bar Association called for another last-minute delay in the vote, to allow for an FBI investigation of Ford’s claims “because of the ABA’s respect for the rule of law and due process under law.”  Critics pointed out that the ABA already gave Kavanaugh their highest rating as a judge and questioned whether this delay was politically-motivated, since the ABA is notoriously liberal, and Democrats are desperate to delay the vote until after the election.  They noted that Ford’s testimony provided no new details and that an organization of attorneys should know that the FBI can’t investigate a local crime, and certainly not one that’s 36 years old, where the accuser can’t even provide a date or location, and all the alleged witnesses deny that it happened.

Finally, I included this in my comments yesterday about the Ford-Kavanaugh hearing, but I think it is definitely worth posting again, just in case you missed it (or want to bookmark it.)  Sen. Lindsay Graham, normally one of the most congenial of legislators, reads the riots act to his Democratic colleagues who, merely to advance their political agenda, exposed a professed sexual assault victim who asked to remain anonymous and tried to destroy the reputation and career of a highly-respected judge with no evidence while denying him due process rights. The only thing missing from this was for him to look straight into the eyes of Booker, Hirono, Feinstein, Harris, Durbin, Coons and the rest and ask, “At long last, have you no decency?”

President Reagan's Letter

After the intense ugliness of yesterday’s Senate hearing, I feel as if we could all use something good and clean to wash the filth out of our eyes.  So here’s an article to remind us of what Christianity and decency look like at the highest levels of government.  It involves a recently discovered letter, handwritten in 1982 by President Ronald Reagan and sent to his dying atheist father-in-law.

Reagan was concerned about his soul, and tried to explain in a logical way his in-law could accept why he believed in the Divinity of Christ. Imagine someone in politics who not only had such lofty thoughts and knowledge, but also the decency to take time out from the highest-pressure job in the word to reach out and express them to someone he cared about who strongly disagreed with him.  Those were different times.  Let’s pray we can bring them back.

What got into the water in Sacramento?!?

I don’t know what got into the water in Sacramento, but California Gov. Jerry Brown actually vetoed a slew of wacky leftist bills that would likely be rubber-stamped if Gavin Newsom gets elected to follow him.  Brown blocked efforts by the La-La-Legislature to bar ICE from arresting criminal illegal immigrants inside courthouses, to let illegal immigrants serve on state and local governing boards, to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to obtain gun permits, to establish a board to monitor so-called “fake news” in obvious violation of the First Amendment, and even to move the start time of junior highs and high schools later to 8:30 a.m. to “combat sleep deprivation.”

Judging from the type of bills that are passed by the people they elect, it’s obvious that Californians are already getting plenty of sleep during civics class.

Lesson for political candidates:

Don’t exaggerate your poor, hardscrabble background for votes.  One of your relatives might get mad and spill the beans that what you described as living in an abandoned gas station with no electricity or running water was actually more of a remodeling project.

Tim Allen returns

Tonight, Tim Allen’s sitcom “Last Man Standing” makes its return to Fox after being canceled at the height of its popularity by ABC; some say because it included a conservative point of view, although ABC denied that.  At the link, some more info and some refreshing comments from Allen about how it’s the job of entertainers to entertain, and who cares what they think about politics?  My prediction: far more people will tune in to see the new season of “LMS” than will buy Barbra Streisand’s new song attacking President Trump.

Why is the information about the 1996 ruling by Judge Kavanaugh's mother not mentioned at all? His mother, also a judge, ruled against Dr. Ford's parents which resulted in their losing their house in foreclosure. This alone, is MOTIVE for this woman to want to get even. This is not only ugly - it's evil!

Governor Huckabee, Is there anyone who can call for public hearings for every victim of sexual harassment by sitting members of Congress who were paid off with taxpayer funds? If that cannot be done, can we at least see a list of names of those congressmen who were accused, what they were accused of, and when they were accused. Further, can we taxpayers know how much of our money has been paid to accusers. Is there a way the congressmen can be forced to repay the taxpayer money back into our treasury?
Why would anyone believe that Judge Kavanaugh who has led an exemplary life and done a superb job as a Judge is guilty of what he is being accused of? The testimony of ford was so full of contradictions and unexplained statements and yet the democrats claim to believe it. I don't think they believe it, they are using her as a pawn in their chess game to keep Judge Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court. What surprises me is the way Republicans cannot seem to stand up for right over wrong. Even POTUS caved on the release of classified documents--how will we ever get to the bottom of the FBI and Justice Department crimes without the information? I am heartbroken over the state of our Congress, the state of our nation, and most especially for wrongly-accused Judge Kavanaugh and his precious family. Let me say, I appreciate your daughter. She will not back down and I admire her so much for that.

Thank you for all you do in keeping all of us informed with the real life issues. My heart goes out to Judge Kavenaugh and his family and I pray God watches over him and his family, as well as you and your family. I also pray God will have mercy on America. Again, thank you.

Would never have believed in my lifetime that this nation would crumble before our eyes. I can’t fathom the blatant disrespect shown by the entire Democratic Party and the RINOS that continue to derail our hopes of survival. Only GOD can save us, but my guess is that he also has had enough.

    Gov. Mike,
It really concerns me that when the left plays their political games, people on the right get silently angrier and angrier. I have heard rumblings from people that we are headed for a civil war because of the far left’s shenanigans. I am very concerned for our country.

The effort to derail the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is not about women’s rights, it is about power and the appetite for power is insatiable. The new RACE card is the RAPE card, and if it is successfully deployed to defeat the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, make no mistake, it will be used in even the most innocuous situation. So ladies, think about it.
    1. Your husband supervises an office with an all-female staff.
    2. Your daughter’s husband is successful vying for a promotion, when the other candidate for the position is female.
    3. Your son is voted class president, his opponent is female.
    4. Your grandson attends his first co-ed dance.
    5. And all your widowed Dad wants to do is have an occasional date night with a female companion.
I fear the new standard for defining male and female interactions will be open to any kind of unsubstantiated, uncollaborated accusation.

Hi, I just wonder what Sheila Jackson Lee gave to Counsel Michael Bromwich, who then put the letter in his jacket pocket. She then seemed to look around. Was it some kind of payoff. I really would like to know, perhaps this should be investigated!!!!
Something stinks about this whole thing.

Does the FBI investigation include Diane Feinstein and her letter hypocrisy? Who leaked? How the letter got to the press needs to be investigated. And are Christine Ford’s statements and lack of information also being investigated? How did she get home from the party when she didn’t have a driver’s license. I am not stupid enough to believe her phony act! What was the real reason she refused to fly when she had taken at least 3 plane vacations before!

An alternate explanation for Dr. Ford's experience: Hot summer day. Invited to a SWIMMING party. Wears bathing suit under clothes. One or two guys at the party (whoever they are) are horsing around. They try to get her clothes off -- NOT HER BATHING SUIT -- so that they can THROW HER IN THE SWIMMING POOL. Of course they don't TELL her what they are doing, so she thinks they are trying to rape her. Did anyone think of that?

Regarding ABA letter recommending further investigation. Rest WSJ Review & Outlook on 9/29/18. They state that the letter from Mr. Carlson’s letter to the Judiciary Committee is partisan. He was a donor to Hillary Clinton and did not send his letter to the ABA committee prior to its issuance. Mr. Mosley of the ABA said, “The ABA’s rating for Judge Kavanaugh is not affected by Mr. Carlson’s letter.” In other words, Mr. Kavanaugh still has the ABA’s highest rating!

I am not an expert at much of anything. I am pretty good at microwaving hot dogs and do OK at mowing my lawn. But I don't claim expertise, even in these small endeavors.

I do know a little something about clumsy and failed seduction attempts by teenage males, having attemped such activities a number of times in my own misspent teenage years.

And I wonder if what Ms Ford experienced was not actually just a very clumsy attempt at seduction which, in over 35 years of obsessively thinking about, she has decided was an attempted rape. Being a victim is frequently rewarding in our society, and certainly having a story to tell about the time a prominent federal judge tried to rape her would give a person something interesting to talk about to her friends on the beach.

I found her credible though somewhat eccentric. I think she believes in the story she tells. But I think it is quite possible that her story has become inflated and misconstrued in her own mind over time.

Kind of like a fish story, where the catch gets bigger and bigger as the years go by. Or my claim to have been sexually assaulted in a Turkish prison, where the closest I ever came to a Turkish prison was watching the movie, MIDNIGHT EXPRESS. Or like Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut who convinced himself that he was a decorated hero of the Vietnam War, though he actually was just a little pinko who stayed home hiding out at university.

These are just idle thoughts and conjectures. I actually don't know shit from Shinola.

Wait a minute..............I do know enough to make the discrimination between the two. That and how to microwave wienies.

My heart goes out to the Kavanaugh family. I hope they know that we are praying for the him and his precious wife and daughters. I am reminded of a young shepherd boy (David) that was chosen to be the next king of Israel. But before he would take the throne he would have to basically fight for his life. And all because he was the one chosen. This experience will no doubt change Judge Kavanaugh. He may never be the same judge that he is now. He will continue to be fair and respectful but he may look at the constitution much differently. He might now understand why the writers of the constitution fought so hard for it; why they fought so hard against tyranny; why they fought so hard for America to be free. I hope he will also see God's hand in the constitution and in this country and why we need to fight to keep America free. I also hope he will remember God said "be still and know that I am God."
Thank you Gov. Huckabee for all you do. You and your family are always in our prayers also. Thank you for the sharing the story about the Reagan letters. Remember he predicted that Trump would be president some day.

The last few weeks are reminiscent of the Salem Witch trials and the McCarthy Hearings. Basically if you are accused of being a witch or communist you were found guilty and hung and to be damn that there were no facts to corroborate the allegations. It is almost impossible to prove a negative. In real life litigation a Judge will rule your evidence inadmissible if you laid behind a log and didn't reveal it in the discovery process. Hear there was no penalty for the Democrats to keep secret the sexual harassment allegations until after all Senate confirmation hearings were completed before springing their last ditch effort to kill the Kavanaugh nomination. Even though Senator's Grassley's offer to go to Dr. Ford in California to take here testimony in private was on national news the week before, Dr. Ford claimed in her testimony that she was unaware of the offer. Either Dr. Ford is lying or her attorneys breached an ethical duty to communicate this offer to their client. Likewise, Dr. Ford's attorneys had an ethical duty to ask their client in response to the Committee request to fly to Washington D. C. on Monday to testify and they told the Committee a lie that she was scared to fly, even though she flies often, sometimes for pleasure. Also, she was already in neighboring Delaware when they communicated this lie. Both lies were to delay the hearing, the ultimate goal here. Likewise, the Democrats undoubtedly have another person hiding in the trash can that will come forward just prior to the next vote claiming she was at the party and saw Judge Kavanaugh do the bad deeds. Of course, it will be untrue and will contradict Dr. Ford earlier testimony that she had named everyone at the party, but there will be some reason why Dr. Ford couldn't disclose this person, like she was an illegal alien, an alien or something! The press will not focus on the lie, but the new demands to extend the investigation and to kill the Judge Kavanaugh nomination. In the end they will probably find Judge Kavanaugh to be a witch and a communist. I hope I am wrong about this and that Judge Kavanaugh prevails. He is a good man. If this does happen though my fiends I will leave you with this quote, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing".- Edmund Burke. We the silent majority can no longer stand idle.

Now that Mr. Flake have decided to leave the Senate, I truly hope that anyone thinking about hiring this man realizes that he can not be expected to make any management decisions and follow through with them. I am not sure that he could follow orders if anyone confronts him with another opinion. If this man is married, I hope his wife is mentally able to make and follow through with decisions. If not, they need to be neutered so that they have no off -spring.

I consider myself a patriot having served this country for about 30 years. I don't miss the opportunity to vote. I believe in voting for the best canidate regardless of party. I am an unaffiliated (independent) registered voter. After what I have witnessed the last 3 years, I will never vote for another Democrat - they have lost sight of their purpose to properly govern this Country and adher to the Constitution.
