House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi isn’t backing down from her claim that the Republican tax cut is “Armageddon” and “the worst bill Congress ever passed.” She was asked to respond to the tidal wave of companies announcing raises, bonuses and new hiring thanks to the tax cut (the latest is Walmart, raising starting wages to $11 an hour, with bonuses up to $1000 per worker and expanded maternity, family leave and adoption benefits).

Pelosi dismissed those raises and bonuses as "insignificant," claiming they were just for PR and "so pathetic," and that the raises and bonuses amounted to “crumbs.” Why does her use of the word “crumbs” remind me of a previous era's clueless aristocratic leader sneering that if the peasants don’t have bread, then “let them eat cake”? (As for her blasting companies for cutting workers back to 32 hours a week, that was in response to Obamacare, a genuinely terrible bill that she forced onto Americans; but she might not know that since I'm still not sure if she ever read it.)

Walmart tax cut news

By Mike Huckabee

WalMart and Sam’s Club announced that savings from the GOP tax cut will be used to raise starting wages for all hourly associates to $11 an hour, expand maternity and parental leave benefits, create a new benefit to help workers with adoption expenses, and pay workers bonuses of up to $1000. Say, aren’t those all things “Progressives” have been trying to force WalMart to do for years by increasing government regulations? Still trying to figure out what’s “progressive” about doing something over and over when it’s never worked before.

Dossier claims

By Mike Huckabee

In what could be a Watergate-dwarfing story if it pans out, Fox News and investigative reporter Sarah Carter claim that multiple sources have confirmed that the Obama DOJ and FBI did use the Fusion One “Russian dossier” on Trump as ground to get FISA authority to spy on Trump’s campaign. The material in the dossier is largely unverified or debunked rumors paid for as opposition research by the Clinton campaign and the DNC. While Trump critics claim that some of it has been proven true, about the only claim that’s been verified is that one-time Trump campaign adviser Carter Page did once take a trip to Moscow, although he denies doing what the dossier claims he did there.

World War III quieter than I would have predicted

By Mike Huckabee

Remember how our moronic, delusional President was going to destroy NATO and bring on World War III by insisting that the other countries pay up some of the money they owe instead of sticking us with their share of the cost? Well, here he is at yesterday’s cordial joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, confirming the US commitment to NATO and praising Norway for its contributions to fighting ISIS and for being one of the member nations that has since committed to paying its promised share of NATO funding.

Man, between this and Kim Jong-Un suddenly seeming more interested in joining the Olympics than nuking his neighbors, World War III seems a lot quieter than I ever would’ve predicted.

Draining the swamp at BLM

By Mike Huckabee

One of the most stunning abuses of federal power in recent years was the case of the government’s treatment of Nevada cattle rancher Cliven Bundy by Bureau of Land Management law officials. Bundy was charged with multiple felonies over a standoff with federal agents in 2014. But the seeming slamdunk case was thrown out in a mistrial after the judge found rampant prosecutorial misconduct, including six violations of trying to hide or refusing to turn over evidence favorable to Bundy’s case.

Now, the hunters have become the hunted, as two GOP lawmakers and Attorney General Jeff Sessions are launching investigations into the agents who mishandled the Bundy case as well as abuse and misconduct inside the BLM, which has enjoyed a lopsided conviction rate that’s now under suspicion. How appropriate that the Bureau of Land Management should be experiencing a much-needed draining of the swamp.

Issa not running

By Mike Huckabee

California Rep. Darrell Issa just became the latest Republican to announce that he won’t be running again in 2018. It will be a real loss: Issa has done great work in fighting the entrenched corruption of DC, even when it often seemed he was swimming upstream in a river of molasses. Republicans had better be preparing for a major get-out-the-vote push in November. One shudders to think what California Democrats would like to replace Rep. Issa with.

Yes, but when I put a Facebook post up about the exciting Wal-Mart "raises and increased benefits due to tax cuts" news, Gloomy Gus wrote in response: "And they also announced that they are closing 63 stores. Guess that will help more than the tax cuts to pay for the new benefits." :-(
