ICYMI: THE SECOND PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Last night, the final Presidential debate took place in Nashville. Here it is in full...

And here’s the entertaining and informative PJ Media live blog commentary on the debate…

There’s no question that Trump won it. Sure, you expect me to say that, but here’s how you know for sure. The leftwing website The Daily Beast ran this damage-controlling headline: “Trump Won the Debate Night. It’s Not Nearly Enough.” I won’t bother annoying you with their CYA excuses for why it doesn’t matter that Trump won the debate. The very fact that a site that exists largely to lie about how Trump screws up everything didn’t feel it was possible even for them to convincingly claim that Biden won should tell you all you need to know about how badly Joe crashed and burned.

Here are my takeaways:

1. I was right that Trump would’ve done better in the first debate if he’d stopped interrupting and just let Joe talk. He did that last night, not entirely by choice, and Joe rambled on incoherently, made unforced errors and outrageously false claims, and melted down on camera toward the end like the witch in “The Wizard of Oz.”

Perhaps the biggest news came near the end when a clearly exhausted Biden was goaded by Trump into admitting he intends to “transition” away from the entire oil industry “because the oil industry pollutes, significantly.” Trump asked if viewers in Texas, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma just heard Biden say he was going to destroy the oil industry.

2. Trump came across as strong, decisive, energized and most importantly, optimistic. He talked about his past accomplishments but also about how bright the future can be. To him, COVID-19 is a problem, but problems are things to deal with and solve, not to hide away from forever and destroy your country over. And we have several promising vaccines nearing approval. In one of his most memorable lines, he warned, “We have to open our country. We’re not going to have a country.”

On the other hand, Biden was relentlessly negative. Everything Americans do now is wrong and must be corrected by a big government program. COVID-19 is a killing machine with no end in sight, he’ll impose lockdowns for however long it takes no matter the consequences, and “We’re about to go into a dark winter, a dark winter, and he has no clear plan. And there’s no prospect that there’s going to be a vaccine available for the majority of the American people before the middle of next year.” He has nothing to offer but fear itself. I predict that that “dark winter” quote will launch a thousand “Game of Thrones” memes featuring Joe Photoshopped into medieval armor.

3. Trump took the position of defending American greatness, and said that the divisions (largely stoked by the left to divide and conquer, I’d add) will be healed by success in which we all will share. Biden seems to see nothing in America but racism, pollution, greed and shame. This is in line with his controversial new ad that claims America has never lived up to its ideals. Apparently, fighting a Revolution for freedom, a civil war to end slavery, two world wars to save the world from aggression and Nazism and a Cold War to stop communist tyranny, passing the Civil Rights Act and electing the first black President were all underwhelming to Joe, but electing him President will finally convince him that we’re good people. Joe is trapped in his own “dark winter” of discontent.

4. Back when there were actual statesmen among the Democrats, Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan famously warned that everyone was entitled to his own opinions, but not his own set of facts. I now understand why today’s Democrats can’t get along or find any common ground with Republicans: they’re living in a parallel universe.

According to Biden, he never said he would end fracking, and he dared Trump to show video of him saying that (Trump has been opening rallies recently with a montage of clips of him saying that, and he posted it to Twitter immediately after the debate.)

In Joe’s Universe, his son Hunter never made a penny from China and was investigated and completely exonerated by the Senate…

He denied that he ever said black youth were “super predators” in pushing his “lock ‘em all up” crime bill that greatly increased black incarceration. To be perfectly accurate, I believe it was Hillary Clinton who used the phrase “super predators.” But here’s video of Joe in 1993, calling them “predators” who were “beyond the pale” and saying he doesn’t care what problems they had that made them that way, we can deal with that when they’re in jail…

Joe stunningly claimed that not a single person lost their private insurance under Obamacare. According to studies, up to 4 million Americans did. My own writer/researchers, Pat and Laura, are freelance contract writers. Their policy was replaced with an ACA-compliant alternative with a $1000 higher deductible (each) and a premium that was $540 a month higher. The reliably liberal Polifact named Obama's "If you like your policy/doctor, you can keep your policy/doctor" as "Lie of the Year."

He also claimed that “there is no evidence that when you raise the minimum wage, businesses go out of business. That is simply not true.” He might ask some of the former small business owners in San Francisco, Seattle or New York City about that. Or ask one of his campaign members, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. As much as she deserves to return to her former job as a bartender, she can’t because that bar went out of business after the $15 minimum wage she championed was enacted.

These are just a few of many examples of Biden making flat denials and claims that anyone who hasn’t been in a coma for the past decade knew were patently false, like claiming the child separation policy at the border didn’t start under Obama.

5. Biden now apparently thinks it’s a good marketing strategy to call his health care plan “Bidencare.” I hope it covers mental health care, because he needs it. “Hillarycare” was so unpopular, it cost the Democrats Congress in the 1994 elections. “Obamacare” was so unpopular, it cost the Democrats the House, six Senate seats, six Governorships and 20 state legislative chambers in the 2010 elections. Calling his plan “Bidencare” is like saying, “Would you like to ride on my brand new cruise ship, the Titanic II?”

6. Biden threw Obama under the bus. When Trump pressed Biden on why he never implemented any of his great ideas during 47 years in Washington, including eight years in the White House, Biden’s excuse was that he was Vice President, not President. Biden implied that Trump got prison sentencing reform passed when Obama/Biden couldn’t (even with a solidly Democratic Congress for two years) because Obama was head man, not Joe. Burn!

7. Biden vowed that within his first 100 days in office, he’d send Congress a plan to give a pathway to citizenship to over 11 million illegal immigrants. Coupled with all the free health care and other benefits, that certainly won’t make half the world come streaming across our no-longer-enforced borders.

8. The moderator, Kristen Welker, did a better job than expected. Yes, she did continually interrupt Trump (at times, he seemed to be debating her rather than Biden, but that’s par for the course.) And the topics she chose were, as always, right off the DNC talking points menu, with little mention of issues that are strong for Trump and important to voters, like the economy, peace in the Middle East and preventing foreign wars. And she never would have mentioned the fast-unfolding Biden laptop scandal if Trump hadn’t brought it up first.

But to her credit, once he did bring it up, she didn’t shut it down and even pursued it a bit with Biden, who lamely claimed it was “Russian disinformation” (without evidence! I've been looking forward to a chance to say that!) He then tried to change the subject to Trump’s tax returns and the fact that his company had a bank account in China for a few years that was closed before he ever ran for President. That wouldn’t be analogous to Hunter unless it were still open and getting regular large deposits from the Beijing government.

By clearing the world’s lowest bar of being the fairest debate moderator so far, Welker earned praise from Trump. I’m sure she’ll never be asked out to lunch in DC or New York again.

Speaking of low bars to clear, this was easily the best of the three Presidential debates (I count the two townhalls as debate #2 because combined, they included a DNC operative moderator tossing softballs to Biden and Trump being shouted at by a representative of the Democratic Party, and that adds up to one Presidential debate in my book.)

Perhaps the best one-line summation of the debate – and of the entire 2020 campaign – came from an anonymous user on RedState.com’s comment board, who said, “Trump talked about what he’s done. Biden talked about what he’s going to do.”

Considering Trump did more in 3-1/2 years than Biden’s done in his first half-century in Washington, I think I’ll stick with Trump.

SURPRISE GUEST

Nobody trolls like President Trump. Joe Biden was lucky they didn’t take questions from the audience because I’ll bet this guy had some doozies prepared.

In case you don’t recognize the name Tony Bobulinski (which is understandable, considering how hard the media are trying to suppress it), he’s a former business associate of Hunter Biden’s who says Joe is lying about never discussing Hunter’s foreign business deals. He says he’s dealt directly with Joe, and he’s turning over evidence of “the Biden family’s plans with the Chinese” to the Senate and the FBI.

He also stressed that he’s not political, isn’t out to get anyone, and has only donated to Democrats. But as a patriot and a veteran, he has to get the truth out to protect his family name and business reputation. Oh, if only the truth could do that! Unfortunately, we live in the Twitter age, where people’s reputations can be savaged and the truth’s got nothin’ to do with it.

NOW WE KNOW

As he threatened, President Trump released his own copy of his complete, unedited interview with Leslie Stahl of “60 Minutes” before CBS airs it, and as Tyler O’Neil of PJ Media reports, it quickly became clear why. When Trump pressed Stahl on why the media refuse to question Biden on the quickly-expanding Hunter Biden scandal, she claimed that he’s not in the middle of a scandal, and it’s unverified. Trump said it was the second-biggest scandal behind the spying on his campaign. She then claimed that “there’s no real evidence of that” and “We can’t put on things we can’t verify.”

We now have a participant in one of the Hunter Biden email chains who’s stepped up to verify it, and in addition to all the evidence of anti-Trump conniving that’s been declassified, a former FBI staffer has pleaded guilty to deceptively editing a request for a warrant to spy on Trump’s campaign.

I wonder how much evidence “60 Minutes” requires to “verify” that a story is worth mentioning? Because CBS and its media brethren raged ‘round-the-clock for three years about “Russian collusion” that their own great white hope, Robert Mueller, finally had to admit didn’t exist.

Ms Stahl is accusing Trump of “insulting” “60 Minutes.” But by releasing the entire interview, Trump didn’t insult CBS or manipulate the facts. He exposed what actually happened, in full and in context. That’s what real journalists used to do. “60 Minutes” has been on the air for 52 years, so somebody there should be able to remember back that far.

MICHIGAN SURPRISE

In a major political upheaval, the Detroit News endorsed African-American Republican John James for Senate over Democrat incumbent Gary Peters. But if you get your news from Twitter (and why on Earth would anyone do that?), you might not know that.

Twitter, for some bizarre reason, placed a warning on the story reading, “Headlines don’t tell the full story,” as if it contained some dangerous disinformation. In this case, the headline did pretty much tell the story: “Editorial: Our choice for US Senate” next to a picture of John James. That clear enough for you, Twitter?

EVEN WORSE

But even worse was NPR’s tweet explaining why they are giving zero coverage to the unfolding Hunter Biden laptop story.

“We don’t want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don’t want to waste the listeners’ or readers’ time on stories that are just pure distractions.”

Funny, I seem to recall them wasting plenty of time and taxpayer funding covering the “Russia collusion” hoax for three years or so. Remind me again, in the age of cable, satellite, YouTube, the Internet and countless digital forums, why we need to keep giving everyone’s tax money to a public TV and radio network that dispenses one-sided political propaganda?

Incidentally, here’s an example of the kind of real news NPR thinks is more important than finding out whether someone who might become President is compromised by foreign money.

NOW I UNDERSTAND

And here’s why debate moderators never bring up the Middle East: President Trump just announced that his Administration has convinced another Muslim-majority nation, Sudan, to join the Abraham Accords and sign a deal normalizing relations with Israel and formally recognizing the Jewish state.

This is why Trump has scored four nominations for a Nobel Peace Prize, and unlike Obama, for actual reasons other than just existing.

I may have missed it but I have not seen any commentary on Biden reading from his notepad just after he turned the page on just before he was asked about climate change and then he reads his answer from his notepad
Seems to me he knew what the next question was going to be
Also at end of debate before he leaves the podium he rolls up his notepad and takes it with him

Hi Governor, so glad I found you on YouTube seven months ago. Now I subscribe to your services.
First comment about the debate. Thanks Joe for the dark winder forecast. I am a chronic migraine and cluster headache suffer who is facing the possible loss of sight in my right eye. Gee I need to get more depressed.
Secondly, which I believe I mentioned to you previously. President Trump is the President of the United States, the Commander and Chief of the armed forces. I am a vet, President Trump is not "That guy," as vice president Biden called him many times. I nearly chocked on the Vice president part of this. If Joe can not respect the man, respect the office.

Leslie Stahl, a huge Fake among the Fake News, Enemies of the People. Fake Leslie accused the President of attacking and interrupting when she, the Fake Queen (Leslie Stahl) was nothing but rude, harassing and frankly disgraceful. No wonder a huge percentage can't stand and have no trust of the MSM, which includes 60 Minutes!! Leslie was so hung up on those "masks" and like so many make science a god!! I would encourage anyone with even a few brain cells to watch the attack interview by Fake 60 Minutes and major fake ,Leslie Stahl and then ask again why the President has been calling the MSM "fake news" and "Enemies of the ,People" which they are!! Leslie Stahl is just another left wing liberal right along with the rest of MSM. On November 3rd, Vote against all Democrats and indirectly the corrupt, lying MSM- the propaganda arm of the corrupt Democrats!!!

I thought it was a good debate. Excellent newsletter as usual. Going off script now, I just watched Obama & boy did he lay it all out on President Trump. Then I was watching Biden, folks, folks, look, look, & where did he get all the energy to yell for so long at his Dallas, PA campaign. They both made President Trump look like the DEVIL himself! Everything turned around what the President has said & done for our country. How could anyone vote for a democrat after 8 yrs of a do nothing administration. I blame Obama for the racist situation we have today. Things were much better before the Obama administration, FOLKS!

Go. Please have someone take a look at the Pennsylvania vote signature verification standard and process just put in place by our elected Supreme court judges. My understanding is that they have degraded the machine performed comparison requirement from a 80% match to 40% match. Even if the suspect ballot is rejected due to signatures not matching then it goes thru multi level subjective reviews. Any one of those reviewers can accept the vote but none can reject it except the top election official

Thank you Governor Huckabee for your TRUTHFUL INPUT about what is really going on in the political arena. President Trump LITERALLY MOPPED the floor with Biden, he was GREAT. I believe and also have heard Rush say about the first debate that possibly, President Trump may have had some early signs of the covid-19 illness at the time. So he was not himself. Biden and associate are now having to do DAMAGE CONTROL as a RESULT of him LOSING the debate, as was expected.
God Bless you and your family. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Please comment on what is happening now with Islamist Turkish aggression against Christian Armenia in Azerbaijan's dispute over territory populated by 90% Christian Armenians. Would the UN, would the world be as indifferent if the population statistic was flipped, and the disputed territory was 90% Islamist and Armenia attacked? Who can support Azerbaijan's claim of territory occupied by 90% CHRISTIANS? Turkey is using Azerbaijan to perform Turkey's second holocaust against Christians in the region. Turkey partnering with Azerbaijan will finish the Turkish genocide of Christians it began in the early Twentieth Century.

This comment is totally off topic, but I've been wanting to share a concern I've had ever since I first saw you on TV endorsing the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews in hopes that people will financially support it. I was a supporter years ago until I found out what their agenda really was. In the words of David Brickner, executive director for Jews for Jesus, "Many well-meaning Christians who give to this organization think they are supporting Jewish missions. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. The organization uses "Christians" in its title, but it is run by a rabbi who is dead set against evangelizing the Jewish people. This organization not only doesn't do evangelism, but it also works hard to make sure that those who are most open to the gospel are prevented from hearing the good news." I learned this truth years before I read this quote so I'm not just taking another ministry director's word for it. I think it's Charity Navigator or one of the other ratings watchdogs that will confirm this in even more detail.
    Love your newsletter!

Thanks for the humor; it calms my nerves and keeps it real. We think alike, and knowing there are others who evaluate/think like I do gives me hope that our President will get re-elected. If only the facts 'trumped' politics. Truth with humor is a good combination; maybe our President will do more of it after he's re-elected. There's plenty of it on the campaign trail - his fans love it.

Mike, I read your comments every day, mostly because you are one of a very few that I trust to give me the truth and the full story. Your analysis of the debate is right on. You even point out some things I missed, even though I heard it all. Wish you had a billboard showing the true story so all Americans could be aware of the evil in our country. I believe we are being punished for our turning away from GOD. HE did the same thing to HIS chosen people in the old testament(just read Jeremiah, the “weeping prophet”).
