January 3, 2018

It’s official: Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the longest-serving Republican senator in U.S. history, has announced his intention to retire at the end of his current term. After winning seven electoral contests for the Senate since his first in 1976, he says won’t be standing for re-election this year.

Over four decades, he has authored more bills that have become law than any legislator alive today. Much of his visibility in recent days has been as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is bound to keep him busy this year at a time of investigations-of-investigations. He also played a huge role in recent months in the passing of Trump’s tax legislation. So he’ll be going out on a high note, but as he said In a statement that gave loving credit to his wife Elaine, “Every good fighter knows when to hang up the gloves.”

As the country seemed to be getting more and more divided, he maintained a reputation as someone who could lead in a bi-partisan way to get things done. On the very day when Sen. Al Franken is expected to officially resign because of allegations of sexual misconduct, it’s refreshing to witness the classy exit of someone who has given many years of public service.

Behind the scenes, there’s been much speculation about whether Sen. Hatch would be retiring, and also about who might vie for his position on the 2018 Republican ticket of such a solidly red state. Would you believe...Mitt Romney? Yes, that’s the buzz. After the denigrating comments Romney has made about President Trump, one has to wonder what Trump will be tweeting about THAT.

I am certainly not for Romney. I did vote for him when he was running for President, because I thought anyone would be better than Obama. I think Romney's true colors have been shown and therefore I feel he would be of no help to President Trump if he were to be elected.

I am worried about so many Republicans retiring although I think there should be a term limit or an age limit. Feinstein for instance should be gone and anyone over 75. 4 terms is a certain limit. The digging in and the benefits the congress votes for itself is ridiculous. We the people are losing benefits while the congress gives itself more and more. One term should not earn life time benefits. My husband is 72 and still working to maintain our lives everything goes up but SS. We are always threatened with losing our benefits while the in crowd gets more and the illegals benefit with what we have acquired. I am sick and tired of being old and threatened by our government while those who steal across our borders benefit. It is not immigration we resent it is what part of our monies is being given to those who did not earn it, while we lose each time. I fear the left getting back into power. When the left gets in the people are bound to lose.

As an elderly person myself I understand limitations advanced aging force upon us.
He has done so much good! My very serious concern is that so many GOP congressmen are retireing and the left's vultures are feeding on their hopes of "retaking our America". We really cannot stand for the Dems to replace our consevative representatives. I am truly worried after the Obama reign!

I voted for Mitt Romney but he has lost my support by his actions over the last several years. Looks like his critic's were right about a lot of things but I still think he was a better choice than Obama.

I do not want Mitt. He is no benefit to the republican party. However I do appreciate all that you have done and are doing and your new show. What a job to have a Christian man on TV

The end of Trump's term was the right time for Orin to quit. Mitt is NOT who we (the EVER-Trumpers) need to see fill that seat. There has to be a better Mormon that is TRULY conservative to win that seat!!! Mitt is another RHINO. We are trying to get rid of them not put them in!!!

If what you say about women being bought to accuse POTUS of sexual misconduct, and I don't doubt that is true, what is being done to bring them all to justice?

Glad he is leaving. I am for term limits. 2 terms is the limit for a total of 12 years. Why is President limited to 4 years and 2 terms and Senate gets unlimited and 6 years each? Absurd and once they are gone no tax payer money for their annual salary. Why should Americans pay indefinitely for these people Mike? Answer that you are so smart. People retire and leave companies every day and the company does not pay them unless there was a pension agreement. These people are suppose to be public servants. Service over then go home and no money for them. No medical either. Pay their own way Mike. What have the elitist like him done to help the average American in the last 50 years? Name one thing Mike the elitist in DC have done to help the average American while they get rich?

Had enough of career crooked politicians.

Yes, that's an interesting thought indeed. But what I want to know is, when is the teflon couple, Bill & Hill, going down for their illegalities while in government all these years? Why isn't something being done? Why isn't president Trump appointing a special prosecutor like he promised to do to put Hillary in prison where any one of us would be had we committed the atrocities she's committed! Is there anyone on earth who can answer these questions??

I have little regard for Romney after he made such awful comments about President Trump and then followed along like a puppy dog to see if Trump would appoint him something in the cabinet. Think his true colors showed that he is not a man of convictions when it comes to personal gain. That being said, if he wins, we will need his votes so hopefully they will work together but I fear he, Romney, may only want to sabotage the President at the cost of America.

Reverend Huckabee. Thank y for including me. Glad y are sending out words of wisdom

Our beloved President needs all the prayers from Christians. God raised him up as a last chance for America. We have become almost godless. The fight is intense between good and evil which really escalated with Obama which has blood on his hands by abortions and Benghazi. If y get to mention to President Trump please ask him to do something about our brave men who gave their lives and the insult with the lie of video. Please do it. It bothers me everyday that they are forgotten. And the unborn who never experienced God's plan for them. How can we exist as a nation which has turned its back on the Lord who blessed us to become a Christian nation and a light to the world. Thank y

Republican and Democrat alike 40 years is too long!
    DRAIN THE SWAMP !!!!!!!
We currently have the sorriest divided misguided legislature ever elected.
If anyone had an ounce of integrity they would vote for term limits today.

I’m happy for Senator Hatch. That’s a lot of years serving the country. Not so sure about Mitt Romney...after the things he has said about President Trump. But the President can handle whatever is thrown at him, thankfully. Because a lot of dirt is thrown his way...some deserved for his tweets. I wish he would stop that tweeting...but it’s inherent in his nature I guess. Thank you for your fair and balanced reports. I love your daughter as Press Secretary! She handles those scoundrels well! God Bless you and your family!

Your comments were right-on-target as usual, Mike, and I appreciate the candor and insightfulness you give to help us gain a better perspective on things. Ever since our days together at OBU, I knew you to be someone whose desire is to know the Truth and to then walk in that Truth. Am praying for you and especially, Sarah, as she faces those who constantly attack. God bless you.

I too wonder about Mitt Romney. I think there ought to be someone qualified that could run aganist him who will support president Trump's agenda. Romney isn't the ideal candidate.

    Hello, Governor Huckabee,

My concern is that Romney will run and he is an anti Trump, anti our agenda, pro NWO, globalist, establishment elite politician. During the campaign and even afterwards, Romney did all he could to undermine OUR PRESIDENT. He is ruthless, mean, and powerful. Am totally ashamed I had voted for him in 2012 - but OWEbama was useless - it made no difference for whom we voted in that election, both would have led us to where we are.
Personally. I'll support Mia Love who is a true Conservative, has supported OUR PRESIDENT from square one, and for good measure, she is a Black, Christian female.
May God bless you and your family, Governor. Thank you for all you do for us.

I pray that that the people of Utah will politely send Mitt a message telling him to please remain in Massachusetts... so that they can elect a real Republican, a real conservative... someone like Jason Chaffetz.

Off topic Mike.... just wanted to let you know your daughter is doing a magnificent job as Press Sec for President Trump. Clearly you and your wife did a wonderful job raising this impressive woman! Tell her to keep taking care of the President's business!

The people of Utah need to tell Mitt he doesn’t deserve a seat in the Senate. He is a RINO and I lost all respect for him after he hypocritically attacked President Trump. I suggest Jason Chafetz run for the Senate. He is a much better candidate!
