Just about the time my recent commentary on “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg was appearing (“Pete Buttigieg: Lecturing America one Christian at a time”), a very interesting thing happened. Buttigieg’s brother-in-law, an evangelical Christian pastor, also spoke out, even calling on the presidential candidate and mayor of South Bend, Indiana, to “repent” for trying to use the Bible to justify late-term abortion.

RELATED READING: Mayor Pete: Lecturing America, one Christian at a time

Rhyan Glezman, the older brother of the man to whom Buttigieg is married, Chasten Glezman, felt that he just couldn’t stand by and watch as Buttigieg gave credence to the idea that, according to the Bible, life starts with the first breath. “I feel a sense of responsibility to my faith to stand up and say something, to say, ‘No that’s not true,’” he said Friday morning on the radio show THE BREAKFAST CLUB. “God places a very high value on all human life. Everyone is created fearfully and wonderfully in the image of God, with intrinsic value. That doesn’t start with the first breath; it starts when we enter our mother’s womb.”

Glezman acknowledged that parts of the Bible do speak of life in terms of breath. And considering the complexity of the question of when life begins, he had some criticism of Republicans for the way “they hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion,” when it’s “obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally.” (I assume by “one piece of doctrine” he meant the belief that life begins at the moment of conception.) At the same time, he said, the political doctrine pushed by every one of the Democratic presidential candidates dictates that abortion any time right up through birth is the absolute right of every woman. Using the Bible to defend that or to suggest that it is what God wants is a false teaching.

“When I look at every single one of them,” he said of the candidates, “their policies, their beliefs, it’s very anti-American. It’s very anti-life. It’s very anti-God. They all have the same rhetoric, and that’s the path they’re deciding to go down. You see it right down the board. I don’t know why a Democrat can’t come out and say, ‘I believe life in the womb is valuable.’”

Do you get the impression that the wrong member of this family got into politics?

“Mayor Pete” may not have done much for the city of South Bend, but he’s touted as having the gift of “narrative,” the enviable if not always admirable ability to craft a political message and communicate it. This is what he’s trying to do, Glezman believes, with his use of Christian terminology to defend his leftist policies. He’s walking a line to try to appeal to the evangelical community while also falling into line with Democrat dogma. I would say this is a hopeless task, and that his approach is already wearing thin. The message won’t play, because every time he tries to use God to justify abortion on demand, evangelicals will see the word HYPOCRITE tattooed across his forehead. “I think he’s just going along with the agenda of the Democratic party,” Glezman said. “that if you want to be a Democrat, you have to be pro-choice.”

Glezman points to Buttigieg as “indicative of a growing trend within the Democratic Party to silence dissent with all the fervor of a religion.” In other words, we’re supposed to fall in line and endorse THEIR interpretation of Scripture. If we don’t celebrate their views on gay marriage or abortion on demand, we are condemned as homophobic bigots or anti-woman, he says, when we are not. As Christians, we love all people. “You can love people and have a disagreement,” he said.

He tweeted this last Friday: “Bad theology often leads to bad morality and that is what you see with Pete. He is a modern-day pharisee inventing new laws and regulations and in his opinion we must abide to his standards to have our faith confirmed.”

As reported by THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER, Glezman said his brother-in-law had “manipulated” and “weaponized” the Bible to appeal to a wider demographic of liberal Democrats, which makes him “a false teacher,” as far as he’s concerned. But, hey, to the Democrats, it’s just politics –- even though human lives are at stake, the very existence of real human beings.

Not surprisingly, the hostile rift over politics that we see in America is exemplified in his own family, which must surely be dreading a very uncomfortable Thanksgiving dinner (or the sad prospect of having to beg off). Glezman says his relationships with his family are “very broken” and that they’ve only “gone downhill” since he became a born-again Christian. He and his brother Chasten don’t speak at all now. At the same time, he describes the relationship he has with Buttigieg as “cordial” and says that Pete has “treated me fairly; he’s been nice to me.”

But Glezman absolutely nails it when he sums up the problem with Buttigieg: Offering your own opinion is very different from outright claiming that God supports such atrocities as late-term abortion. “Anyone who makes those claims, anyone who’s going to weaponize the [Bible] in that way, I would say to anyone that you need to repent. This is leading people astray and it’s very, very dangerous.”

The full story is a must-read. Thank you, Mr. Glezman, for speaking up. It takes courage to speak out about the left, knowing that the way they operate is to intimidate or discredit all heretics, but I hope we haven’t heard the last from you. You are the one who knows how to deliver a message.

Simply put the bible says, "Be fruitful and multiply," Interfering with birth is the opposite of that.
I don't see breathing included in the definition of life.
Definition of Life, the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death.

The Democrats ideology is WE believe in Cooperation with each other, all you have to do is CAPITULATE to our Point of View and "We can all get along". Without getting too deep in the weeds it's a matter of FAITH to believe in One God, which manifests itself in many denominations/sects and if you want to include Theocracies ( Islam) you have covered the spectrum of FAITH. I'm not coming at this from a Narrow POV, I have witnessed and participated in many variations of Christianity and I'll cede to the Founders who were wise enough to have some really brilliant men attempt to put together a Form of Government that GAVE Power to the People ( If we could keep it) in a Grand Experiment based on a LOT of HISTORY and Religion that was the Peoples choice and NOT a Govt. mandated ideology. Man has now assumed the mantle of being Omnipotent with zero evidence that Man has ever got it Right. Socrates and Aristotle had a pretty decent grip on man and his foibles when they stated 'Question Everything' and 'True Wisdom is admitting you know nothing.' My Prayer is for America to wake up to what's tearing us apart. The question is HOW do we bring the Leftist INDOCTRINATED back to REALITY?

Thank you for standing up and speaking out on this very controversial issue ~ though it shouldn't be. Abortion is very clearly murder!

Non-Christians think they can debate God and His Word as if they have anywhere near His wisdom and intelligence! How absurd!!

    Mayor Pete,
    First breath.

If you abort the baby then it never gets a chance for a first breath!
I think most people think 8 weeks is not viable.
Now I can allow abortion for rape, incest, mentally inability or health of mother. I do not understand why some Christians want to punish the woman for a possible sin perpetrated. Rape and Incest are horrible sins. God allows free will meaning he also allows evil to tempt us. A woman should not be made to carry that pain for the rest of their lives.

One thing I have to add and I dislike this. We live in America. We are free to practice or not practice any Deity. Even Satanists are allowed because we are free. Since many people that believe in God and use the Bible to attack these people. But some of those people do not live and die according to our Bible, WHY? Because they are free as America is a free country. Denying any body's choice leads to a slippery slope. Down the road a bit maybe our freedom of religion will be taken away. This has started. I would like to know how many non-believers believe that Baby needs to be protected.
Do we have proof of when, Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible how many true abortions were being done?

Women say that they have a right to control their bodies. Nowadays there are many ways to avoid conception. Anti-conceptive medicine and devices are easily available. Why then don't the control anti-conception ahead of time.
Once they conceive, due to carelessness, bad judgement or whatever, they have to face the consequences. When you have sex, you know you could get pregnant. Now it is your responsibility to take care of that human being you ordered! You have no right to kill another life. Might be your body, but this is another life.

God asks us to be bold, so I am. I am a child of God, conceived in my Mother's womb and knit together by God. So wasn't Butterieg. But the bible also says that marriage was created by God for a man and woman to join together. Anything else is an abomination in God's eyes. I bet he hasn't read that one.

Mr. Glezman, thank you very much for speaking the truth. Satan has torn many families apart, we have to love the sinner and hate the sin. But at no time are we supposed to condone the sin and the lies that try to lead other people astray. I will pray for you and your family. I just put you and them on my personal prayer list which I keep here by the computer. GOD bless you Sir.

Mayor Pete thinks he is "married" to a man. He is not. When folks refer to this sexual perversion, I wish they would not call it a marriage. Man's laws do not trump God's. We should not call anything homosexuals are spewing credible because their minds are full of satan's lies.

If life in womb is not respected, why should life out of the womb be respected? Women have the wonderful ability to create life with the help of a man. Men need to grow up and not have sex unless they are willing to care for the baby they procreated. Sexual desires selfishly indulged in have consequences. It’s very, very selfish to not care for a baby, in or out of the womb.

It's time for ALL Christians to take a stand against ALL the lies of the Democrats that make a mockery of the truth of the God who stated that truth in His Holy Bible...because this is the truth of the God this country was founded on and, if Christians DON'T start taking a stand for the truth our country was founded on, they can accept responsibility for WHY our country can never be truly "great" again !

The Bible says "HE knew us before we were knit in our Mother's womb."

I hate the stinkin' word abortion! I call it "Early-Term-Murder." I know some young women cannot even comphrehend it is a real live human being. I wonder if they fully are aware that many abortionists (murderers) harvest their precious baby's tiny little parts for filthy money in their pockets?

Although I greatly appreciate Mayor Buttigieg's brother-in-law rebutting the Mayor's belief that life begins when a baby is born, I think he is a bit misguided to assert that "life starts when we enter our mother's womb." As a scientist and a Christian, it is obvious to me that life begins at fertilization. As soon as the egg is fertilized it contains all of the genetic information that it needs and, in fact, will even have, to make a fully functioning human. A new life begins at fertilization, which happens way before the embryo implants in the mothers womb.

Remind your readers to read the Gospel of Luke. When the infant John, still in his mothers womb heard Marys voice he leaped for joy according to Elizabeth. If you believe the Gospel's and I do, that baby was alive in it's mothers womb.

    Mike Huckabee
There are times that I often wonder of all the abortions that have taken place. That many of these abortions have prevented a new born child from being a great inventor a doctor, nurse scientist, that could find a cure for some of the diseases of this country and the world. fireman police officer, teachers, truck driver, and many more.

Awesome article! We need more Christians to speak up and defend ALL of our values. We all need to desperately defend the truth and strongly push back against such wickedness. We can't let a few try to silence righteousness in this country or the world. The war between good and evil is very real. Who's side will we be on? God bless. Thank you Mr. Huckabee.

I am a pro-choice Christian. I know some people question my being able to say I am a Christian.
Not everyone in America believes in God. How can we as Christians call them out. To them they are not sinning. They feel life and death are just that. Do I have the right to beat them with Bible?

Look how many parents completely miss the definition of "spare the rod, spoil the children". A shepherd carries a rod in the filed. He uses to GUIDE the sheep. Not Beat the life out of one.

My oldest does like my stance on abortion and Planned Parenthood. As PP help girls who cannot a gyno office. I told her should hold her little sisters hand while she just gave birth to my first grandchild. She does agree that it should not be used as birth control or for a different sex.

But using the Bible because it does not give a timeline. People had more pressing issues back then. How many abortions were being done back then? Pete says the Bible says breath and that is what the Bible has decided when a human is human. I would like to ask Pete if he believes the Earth is flat as well. There are words used in ancient times about flat. Flat Earters fail to see there no word for ball.
