Pete Buttigieg speaks for God: A MUST-READ follow-up

Just about the time my recent commentary on “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg was appearing (“Pete Buttigieg: Lecturing America one Christian at a time”), a very interesting thing happened. Buttigieg’s brother-in-law, an evangelical Christian pastor, also spoke out, even calling on the presidential candidate and mayor of South Bend, Indiana, to “repent” for trying to use the Bible to justify late-term abortion.

Rhyan Glezman, the older brother of the man to whom Buttigieg is married, Chasten Glezman, felt that he just couldn’t stand by and watch as Buttigieg gave credence to the idea that, according to the Bible, life starts with the first breath. “I feel a sense of responsibility to my faith to stand up and say something, to say, ‘No that’s not true,’” he said Friday morning on the radio show THE BREAKFAST CLUB. “God places a very high value on all human life. Everyone is created fearfully and wonderfully in the image of God, with intrinsic value. That doesn’t start with the first breath; it starts when we enter our mother’s womb.”

Glezman acknowledged that parts of the Bible do speak of life in terms of breath. And considering the complexity of the question of when life begins, he had some criticism of Republicans for the way “they hold everybody in line with this one piece of doctrine about abortion,” when it’s “obviously a tough issue for a lot of people to think through morally.” (I assume by “one piece of doctrine” he meant the belief that life begins at the moment of conception.) At the same time, he said, the political doctrine pushed by every one of the Democratic presidential candidates dictates that abortion any time right up through birth is the absolute right of every woman. Using the Bible to defend that or to suggest that it is what God wants is a false teaching.

“When I look at every single one of them,” he said of the candidates, “their policies, their beliefs, it’s very anti-American. It’s very anti-life. It’s very anti-God. They all have the same rhetoric, and that’s the path they’re deciding to go down. You see it right down the board. I don’t know why a Democrat can’t come out and say, ‘I believe life in the womb is valuable.’”

Do you get the impression that the wrong member of this family got into politics?

“Mayor Pete” may not have done much for the city of South Bend, but he’s touted as having the gift of “narrative,” the enviable if not always admirable ability to craft a political message and communicate it. This is what he’s trying to do, Glezman believes, with his use of Christian terminology to defend his leftist policies. He’s walking a line to try to appeal to the evangelical community while also falling into line with Democrat dogma. I would say this is a hopeless task, and that his approach is already wearing thin. The message won’t play, because every time he tries to use God to justify abortion on demand, evangelicals will see the word HYPOCRITE tattooed across his forehead. “I think he’s just going along with the agenda of the Democratic party,” Glezman said. “that if you want to be a Democrat, you have to be pro-choice.”

Glezman points to Buttigieg as “indicative of a growing trend within the Democratic Party to silence dissent with all the fervor of a religion.” In other words, we’re supposed to fall in line and endorse THEIR interpretation of Scripture. If we don’t celebrate their views on gay marriage or abortion on demand, we are condemned as homophobic bigots or anti-woman, he says, when we are not. As Christians, we love all people. “You can love people and have a disagreement,” he said.

He tweeted this last Friday: “Bad theology often leads to bad morality and that is what you see with Pete. He is a modern-day pharisee inventing new laws and regulations and in his opinion we must abide to his standards to have our faith confirmed.”

As reported by THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER, Glezman said his brother-in-law had “manipulated” and “weaponized” the Bible to appeal to a wider demographic of liberal Democrats, which makes him “a false teacher,” as far as he’s concerned. But, hey, to the Democrats, it’s just politics –- even though human lives are at stake, the very existence of real human beings.

Not surprisingly, the hostile rift over politics that we see in America is exemplified in his own family, which must surely be dreading a very uncomfortable Thanksgiving dinner (or the sad prospect of having to beg off). Glezman says his relationships with his family are “very broken” and that they’ve only “gone downhill” since he became a born-again Christian. He and his brother Chasten don’t speak at all now. At the same time, he describes the relationship he has with Buttigieg as “cordial” and says that Pete has “treated me fairly; he’s been nice to me.”

But Glezman absolutely nails it when he sums up the problem with Buttigieg: Offering your own opinion is very different from outright claiming that God supports such atrocities as late-term abortion. “Anyone who makes those claims, anyone who’s going to weaponize the [Bible] in that way, I would say to anyone that you need to repent. This is leading people astray and it’s very, very dangerous.”

The full story is a must-read. Thank you, Mr. Glezman, for speaking up. It takes courage to speak out about the left, knowing that the way they operate is to intimidate or discredit all heretics, but I hope we haven’t heard the last from you. You are the one who knows how to deliver a message.

Mr. Buttingieg should read and explain Romans Chapter 1 in his daily reading. He will find more truth there than he will be able to swallow.
Those of us that are familiar with scripture truth are commanded to pray for people that chose to make up their own rules concerning God, that they will come to the full knowledge of the TRUTH and begin living it.

Before "Mayor PETE" starts lecturing Christians again about abortion I strongly suggest he read Leviticus, chapter 20, verse 13 from the Old Testament concerning his own personal choice in life styles.

Mr Glezman hits the nail on the head. Not only pete--but others, especially democrats, make up the Bible and rules, interpretation of the Constitution to fit their agenda. What is so funny is--the left has been very anti-religion (except muslim) and really dipping over the deep end with their anti-Semitism--but now we have some trying to quote chapter and verse on the Bible to defend their idiocy. So, Christian religion is real? An important part of lives? Or,it's not? Guess they can't make up their minds.

There are many scriptures that talk about God forming us in our mothers womb, how He knows us from our mothers womb, how some have been dedicated from our mothers womb, even if we didn't understand what God wants from us concerning infants in the womb, wouldn't people rather be on the safe side and not abort infants in the womb so to not take the chance of displeasing God!

Mr. Huckabee, I usually agree with every single word you say. However, you should not write as though Mr. B. has a husband. He doesn’t. Marriage is between a man and a woman and that’s all, and you know that! You shouldn’t give legitimacy to the homosexual relationship by writing as though these men’s relationship is that of a marriage! Shame on you!!

Agree with brother in law. My own family shares this rift. Interestingly enough, those who ‘believe in abortion ‘ never suffered one. As Dallas Willard said, “Knowledge is an interactive relationship.”

The breath spoken of in the Bible refers to the spirit that each person has in their body of flesh. See my book The Meaning and Purpose for Life on Earth for more details. This book answers all the questions people ask about God and the Bible with verses from the pages of the Bible. Available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon .com.

The Bible says that a man cannot lay with a man and a woman cannot lay with a woman that is a sin this idiot has no idea what the Bible says or means you can tell that by just the fact that he’s already legally married to a man America has gone off the tracks

I wish that the pastor would also be as vocal about same-sex unions and stop referring to Pete as his "brother-in-law" and thereby vocally legitimizing tbe "marriage" of two men.

I do not understand how any true Christian can be supportive of any democratic candidate. Their whole philosophy is anti God. They support gay and lesbian life style, same sex marriage, transgender issues, and abortion; all of which God condemns. Our nation has grown so far from God's Word, that we can no longer claim to be a Christian nation. It is so sad to see a nation that God has blessed so abundantly, turn her back on Him. They criticize our president for his crude language and actions, but, he at least recognizes what God's Word says. The democrats not only will not recognize it, they totally refute it. May God forgive them.

I believe pete us trying to rationalize/justify his gay beliefs by advocating that abortion is fine as well. My brother is gay and we have a wonderful relationship even though I am a Christian. So I'm sorry that Mr Glezman does not have a relationship because of his beliefs. However, God on him for speaking out. Too few people are afraid, unwilling to do so.

Mayor Pete. When John the Baptist leaped inside Elizabeths womb are you saying he wasn't a baby because he had not taken his first breath. I think you need to re-read scripture. As a so called Christian you and I have a responsibility to speak the "truth" of Gods word and not twist it to our own interpretation. Scripture also says in Psalm 119:13 says God created us and knit us together in the "womb". Yes, the womb is where life begins Pete.

Hello Mike, I had written a comment on the first of your post yesterday but discarded it, today I can’t resist. The Bible Warns us of false prophets. This person has a national stage to spew his twisted thinking and each of us will have to stand to answer for good or bad behavior on the day we as Christians look forward to.

I have mixed opinions about abortion. On the one hand why don't more women use birth control if they have no desire to have children. Perhaps later but not now they may want children. There are thousands they should not have children, maybe never. The other part which is troubling is why would it take anyone 9 months to decide they want to have a abortion, why not immediately once you know. It is not feasible to think no abortions should be allowed but men and women should take necessary steps to remove the possibility of pregnancy to begin with and not doing so is irresponsible.

Immoral Pete please do not speak for our God. You have the worms IQ however a worm will do more helpful work for our Earth than you will ever do. Pete you seem to think a lot about climate change did you know the earth had 5 ages of ice the most recent was about 3 million years ago did man have anything to do with that? How much did Man have to do with the Dust bowls of the 1930's? Climate Change Pete how much pollution will a volcanic explosion cause? Does Man cause those to explode or what does man have to do with earthquakes can you answer those questions with any facts? I will help you with that one No you can't Petey. Look Little Petey God will take care of Earth why don't you study how worms work and then study the ants, work your way toward how God starts with the life cycle of Humans it may take you the same amount of time to learn as an Ice Age cycle. In the time you have left have someone read the Bible to ya you may become a serious asset to our country! You rank below the Worm as far as usefulness you can work your way up take your time. Oh by the petey you and your husband will not reproduce and I will thank God for that!

I believe the Democratic Progressive Leftist Socialist Party are weaponizing a lot of words against conservatives, and Christians... because they come up with all of these so-called phobias that everybody has... if you don't agree with this or that or this or that.
I further believe that life does begin at conception because that's when a seed starts growing into a human being.
Furthermore I do not hate homosexuals but I do hate the sexual sin that comes from it, such as sodomy.
I pray with all of my heart that this country actually reads the word of God and so therefore will not allow others to lead them astray by tickling their ears with scriptures that are twisted to fit their OWN agenda.
