I know this will crush you to hear, but the House isn’t in session this week. Where will we get our entertainment?!
Conveniently, Speaker Pelosi tossed her “impeachment inquiry” stink bomb into the public arena just days before a two-week break for members to go home and do “district work.” If your member is one of those who has blocked or refused to work with Trump on issues vital to America and instead is pushing to impeach an incredibly successful President over an innocuous phone call, then I hope you’ll make it a point to seek out him, her or xir and let them know exactly what you think of the job they’re doing. After all, that’s why they came home, right? To hear what the people who made the mistake of electing them think of the job they’re doing in Washington? Be sure to let them know.
Meanwhile, I have a way to soothe your withdrawal symptoms from not seeing Nancy Pelosi and Jerry Nadler on TV 24/7, piously intoning about their love of the Constitution and how Trump must be driven from office.
Thanks to blogger Rusty Weiss for compiling onto one page three old video clips from Bill Clinton’s impeachment hearings in 1998 for us to watch and rewatch over the new two weeks. See Nadler and Pelosi piously intoning that this impeachment is only because the President’s political opponents are “paralyzed with hatred” of him, and warning that “impeachment of a President is an undoing of a national election” and his opponents are so angry they’re ripping our votes away from us, and “telling us that our votes don’t count and that the election must be set aside.”
Now, there are a couple of politicians who really care about the Constitution and respect the will of the voters! I wonder what ever happened to them?
Monday Fake News
The attorneys for the Ukraine phone call “whistleblower” say that “Sixty Minutes” completely misinterpreted a letter from their legal team by falsely reporting that their client is under federal protection. “Sixty Minutes” says it stands by its story, which prompted the lawyers to accuse them of “literally making things up.” They asked if CBS seriously thinks it has a source more reliable than the “whistleblower’s” own lawyers.

Update on the Democratic Presidential Demolition Derby
By Mike Huckabee
Update on the Democratic Presidential Demolition Derby: with Joe Biden having some inconvenient issues and Bernie Sanders slipping among the crazy left base, Elizabeth Warren has been rising in the polls, and that’s bad news for the Democrats on a number of fronts.
First…well, she’s Elizabeth Warren. There’s all the baggage that comes with that: her off-putting personality, the lack of any executive or private sector experience, the massive government/socialistic policies and the promises to spend more money than is in circulation in the entire world (that’s not an exaggeration, it’s a calculation.)
But now comes this: some of the Democrats’ biggest donors in one of the bluest states, the Wall Street bankers and New York business tycoons, are warning that if Warren – who sees rich people, banks and businesses as giant piggy banks and herself as a hammer – is the nominee, they’ll withhold their money or even back Trump.
Oh, if only the DNC had any experience at keeping a troublesome socialist candidate from winning the nomination! This new problem for them reminds me of what humorist A. Whitney Brown said about the collapse of the Soviet Union: “Whoever would’ve guessed that the fatal flaw of communism is that there’s just no money in it?”
The Left eats their own
By Mike Huckabee
Many of us tried to sound an alarm bell over the rising intolerance of the left, but establishment liberals kept quiet because the radicals were only attacking the rights of people they disagreed with: conservatives, gun owners, Christians, pro-life activists, etc. But as their bullying tactics have met with more success, they’ve widened their targets to include even those on their own side who are not 110% behind their radical agenda. And liberals are shocked to discover that they’ve become targets, too. Welcome to the party.
We’ve seen the gradual awakening across America, from black and Hispanic voters who are tired of being pushed to vote against their own interests just because leftists falsely label their opponents as “racists” and “white supremacists”…to Brandon Straka’s #WalkAway movement…to comedians fed up with the left’s “cancel culture” if they told an insensitive joke 15 years ago…to Marianne Williamson’s recent revelation that people on the right were nicer to her than those on her own side who could be really mean (she’s since backtracked, I assume out of fear of more bullying.)
Now, you can add Hollywood filmmakers to the list of those who are finally removing their blinders. The makers of the new comic book-inspired movie “Joker” were stunned when anti-gun activists who lost relatives in the Aurora movie theater mass shooting in 2012 blasted the film (which hasn’t even been released yet) for allegedly glorifying violent acts by bullied, deranged loners. They're demanding that the studio, Warner Brothers, support anti-gun legislation and stop any contributions to politicians who support the NRA. Because of the connection to “Batman,” they feel especially triggered, saying the film might encourage the same type of shooter who attacked the showing of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The film’s director, Todd Phillips, and star Joaquin Phoenix argued that a movie doesn’t turn someone into a mass killer, and it’s obvious (or should be) that if you don’t know the difference between right and wrong, you can misinterpret anything to mean whatever you want to see in it, but that’s not the creator’s responsibility, it’s the viewer’s. Sounds as if Hollywood has two freshly-minted Libertarians.
Incidentally, I think it’s worth reminding people that not even the “Dark Knight” shooter was inspired to kill by “The Dark Knight Rises.” He had a long history of mental problems, and the showing he attacked was the very first midnight screening of the film, so he likely hadn’t even seen it. But as John Lott pointed out, it wasn’t the closest or biggest theater near him, but it was the only one that banned patrons with concealed carry permits from bringing in their weapons to defend themselves. While it's not certain whether he chose it because it was a "gun-free zone," his own diary revealed that he'd rejected attacking an airport because there was too much security.
This suggests that if you really want to stop mass shooters, stop attacking the NRA and Batman movies and go after “gun-free zones.”
I wanted to make sure you also read these comments:
Before your Democratic Representatives headed home to mingle with the forgotten people who sent them to Washington, one of the last things they did was to pass a bill to fast-track an electronic medical records system to improve health care for illegal immigrants while voting down a Republican amendment to provide the same for veterans, who are currently set to have to wait ten years for it.
As Republican Rep. Phil Roe of Tennessee put it, why are we treating people who break our laws better than we treat our military heroes? That’s another good question to ask your Congress members during their two weeks off.
The Ig Nobel Prizes for the most dubious achievements in science were given out recently at Harvard. This year’s big winner was Dr. Silvano Gallus, an epidemiologist in Milan, whose research suggested that eating pizza can reduce the risk of heart attacks and some kinds of cancer – but only if the ingredients come from Italy and it’s made and eaten in Italy.
The Ig Nobel Prizes are usually pretty funny, but this just seems like more support for the Mediterranean Diet. Besides, I think that anyone who can prove scientifically that pizza makes you healthier deserves genuine worldwide acclaim. These days, if you want laughs, you'll have to look at who’s getting the real Nobel Peace Prizes.
If you’re getting a little bored with Facebook memes involving AOC, here’s a very pointed one involving a completely different spoiled, immature young woman who wants to take the benefits of capitalism away from everyone else while wallowing in them herself.
