Can Trump Win?

This was originally published on March 20th.

A new theory has arisen as to why the Democrats want to arrest Trump, other than toxic Trump Derangement Syndrome, and it’s not that they want to prevent him getting the 2024 GOP nomination or lure his supporters into protesting so they can spark a riot and brand MAGA grannies as violent insurrectionists (although it’s likely quite a few do dream of that.)

This latest theory is that they know an arrest for Trump will galvanize his base and assure they rally around him so that he WILL win the nomination, and then he’ll be much easier for Biden to beat than someone like DeSantis, who is younger and has similar policies to Trump but without all the negative baggage and set-in-stone opposition.

I don’t know, I think that’s giving them credit for being better long-range thinkers than they are (see “defunding the police.”) But it does bring up a question Republicans need to ask themselves: If Trump gets the nomination, can he win the 2024 general election? Remember, it’s an electoral college victory that will come down to a handful of swing states that did not go our way (for whatever reason) in 2020.

Scott Morefield at Townhall.com has a thought-provoking column on this subject, arguing that like some of the candidates he backed in 2022, Trump can win the GOP primaries but not the general elections in swing states. He backs up his case with numbers and asks for comments from those who have a reasonable counter argument.

I’d urge you to read this with an open mind and consider this question carefully. The future of America – possibly even its survival – may be riding on it.

The Oscars

This was originally published on March 14th.

I doubt that many of my readers really care much about the Oscars. Tom Cruise must’ve been so sure they’d never give an Oscar to “Top Gun: Maverick,” the patriotic movie that saved the studio, that he didn’t even attend. Indeed, a writer for Hollywood’s preferred “news” source, MSNBC, wrote an article slamming the movie as “insidious” and “literal propaganda” for portraying the US military in a positive light.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/top-gun-maverick-is-insidious-for-portraying-virtue-of-u-s-military-msnbc-editor/ar-AA18vjLf

The only way he could have any kind of point is if he admitted that their heroism protects the freedom of idiots like him to write garbage like that. And the show, by all reports, had the usual doses of leftwing politics, virtue-signaling and slams at conservatives because Heaven forbid you shouldn’t insult half your potential ticket-buying public on national TV.

Also, the Academy is so steeped in woke jargon that it described Best Actress winner Michelle Yeoh as “a self-identified Asian actress.” Pretty sure she’s an actual Asian actress.

As always, the same celebrities who condemn a border wall and think you don’t deserve the Second Amendment right to own a gun to protect your family from all the criminals that the politicians they back keep letting out into the streets were themselves protected by barricades and walls and a contingent of police and private security larger and better armed than the Ukrainian military.

However, there was one moment of the Oscars that’s worth seeing, and that was the Best Supporting Actor acceptance speech by Ke Huy Quan. He recounted how his life’s journey began on a boat, fleeing the communists in Vietnam. His family was separated for a year and lived in a refugee camp. But he finally made it to America and after many years of work, he achieved the American dream.

It’s not only a moving and inspiring speech, but I love the idea of all those celebrities who kowtow to communist China, and who constantly tell us America is racist and evil, that minorities can't succeed here and the American dream is a myth, being forced to sit there, listen and applaud.

Biden issues his first veto

This article was originally published on March 21st.

Tuesday, President Biden used his veto power for the first time, and I think history will record it as one of the worst vetoes of all time, and his justification for it as one of the most shameless lies on record.

Please bear in mind that I try to look for the good in people, not make negative assumptions, consider other points of view, etc. etc. But there’s just no other way to slice it.

It all started when Biden (stop me if you’ve heard this before) reversed a Trump executive order requiring retirement fund managers to consider only return on investment and not use the money entrusted to them to push political agendas. Biden’s Labor Department instead encouraged them to use the money to pursue his “climate change” and leftwing activist “ESG” (environmental, social and corporate governance) agenda.

The GOP House and all Republicans and two Democrats in the Senate passed a bipartisan bill to protect the retirement accounts of Americans by requiring managers to consider only maximizing returns, not pursuing political agendas. That’s the bill Biden vetoed, and then tried to defend it by telling America’s seniors that he was actually the one protecting their savings because the bill would make it “illegal to consider risk factors that MAGA House Republicans don’t like.”

https://www.foxnews.com/media/biden-shredded-issuing-first-veto-presidency-protect-esg-liar

By any standards, that is an outrageous, cynical, bald-face lie. He should be thoroughly ashamed of himself, for the order, the veto and the lying explanation for the veto. It’s a triple-decker sandwich of shame. And he’s rightly being shredded from all sides for it.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/03/20/manchin-slams-biden-prioritizing-radical-policy-agenda-vetoing-anti-esg-bill/

Sen. Joe Manchin fumed, “This Administration continues to prioritize their radical policy agenda over the economic, energy, and national security needs of our country, and it is absolutely infuriating.”

It’s bad enough that seniors are already struggling with rampant inflation caused by this President’s idiotic radial policies, as well as a stock market that’s cost most of them up to 30% of the value of their IRAs and 401Ks. Now, he’s actively encouraging the people in charge of their dwindling savings to prioritize leftist nonsense over protecting and increasing their money.

I can describe the wisdom of that policy in three letters:

“S-V-B.”

Chaos in the White House press room

This article was originally published on March 22nd.

The White House press room descended into chaos yesterday (some described it as hilarious chaos, but chaos nonetheless.) Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was trying to set up an innocuous PR event to promote mental health with the cast of the streaming sitcom “Ted Lasso” and reporter Simon Ateba of Today News Africa was having none of it.

https://www.westernjournal.com/press-sec-blows-reporter-throws-wrench-whs-hollywood-actor-briefing/

Ateba is known for being one of the few among the fawning liberal press corps who actually asks tough questions, which is probably why Jean-Pierre has refused to call on him for seven months and counting. So he was understandably peeved that she refused to let him talk but devoted a whole press briefing to the cast of a sitcom, and he interrupted the happy talk. Jean-Pierre began shouting, “No, no, no, no, no, no, no” and repeating, “We’re not doing this! We’re not doing this!” over and over. Ateba shouted back, “You’re making a mockery of the First Amendment!”

The most telling moment came when Kelly O’Donnell of NBC News apologized to the actors on behalf of the Washington news establishment for this unseemly outbreak of actual journalism. Can you guess whose side she’s on?

While I would prefer it if everyone remained professional and kept the shouting confined to elementary school playgrounds, and think Ateba’s behavior may be questionable, his frustration is understandable. He told Tucker Carlson that Jean-Pierre refuses to answer his questions and refuses to meet privately with him, even when Biden is meeting with African leaders and he’s the White House reporter from Africa. He claims that because he’s not a wealthy, white, American reporter but a poor, black reporter from Africa, the White House looks down on him, stonewalls him and discriminates against him, and they show disrespect for the First Amendment.

https://www.foxnews.com/media/reporter-slams-karine-jean-pierre-refusing-take-questions-look-down-me

I thought that Democrats were supposed to oppose all those things he just described. Well, aside from showing disrespect for the First Amendment.

The hubris of Dr. Anthony Fauci

This article was originally published on March 22nd.

We don’t hear much these days about the sin of hubris, since its definition (“overbearing pride, presumption or arrogance”) is now such a popular lifestyle. But I have to give kudos to whoever released the video outtakes from an “American Masters” episode of PBS that I’m sure was intended to deify Dr. Anthony Fauci. Instead, it gave the world a shining example of what “hubris” means.

The videos showed Dr. Fauci and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser going door-to-door during the pandemic to fight “vaccine hesitancy” in a mostly black DC neighborhood. In retrospect, we can see that the average people who had allegedly been “misinformed” about COVID and the vaccines were actually better informed on the subjects than Fauci was.

https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2023/03/20/watch-fauci-get-rejected-by-americans-when-he-pushes-vaccine-makes-bad-comment-about-gop-n719168

When a mom (correctly, as it turned out) told Fauci, “I heard that it doesn’t cure it and it doesn’t stop you from getting it,” he replied with smug certainty, “No, on the very, very, very rare chance that you do get it even if you’re vaccinated, it’s a very – you don’t even feel sick. It’s like you don’t even know you got infected. It’s very, very good at protecting you.”

He then blamed Republicans for this “crazy” vaccine resistance, saying, “They don’t like to be told what to do. And we got to break that, unpack that.”

Maybe they just didn’t like to be told what to do by a power-mad bureaucrat who was absolutely certain that he was correct about things he was wrong about.

Click the link for this must-see video, and for the other one, where they encountered a man who really wasn’t in the mood for Fauci's snow job.
