President Trump has left no stone unturned in his fight against illegal immigration, and it’s becoming increasingly apparent that he’s succeeding.

Despite the obstructionism of Democrats in Congress, who have blocked every legislative effort to resolve the crisis on our southern border, Trump has nonetheless found bold and creative ways to address the problem using his executive authority, working closely with the Department of Homeland Security to identify and implement policies necessary to reduce the influx of illegal immigrants across our southern border.

Thanks to the President’s initiative, word is clearly getting out among would-be illegal immigrants that the perilous journey to the United States is no longer worth hazarding.

In August, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) apprehended about 50,000 illegal immigrants. Though the figure is still at crisis levels, it represents a significant reduction from May’s high-water mark, when the agency apprehended 133,000 illegal immigrants. It’s also a significant drop-off from July, when CBP reported 85,000 apprehensions and encounters, marking just the second time in the past decade that apprehensions decreased from July to August. So while the number of attempted crossings remains high, the downward trend demonstrates that the President’s bold use of executive action and international deals is making a real difference on the ground.

The administration recently revised the Flores settlement agreement, for instance, closing a major loophole in our immigration law that created a perverse incentive for illegal immigrants to expose children — some of them “rented” from human traffickers — to the dangerous trip across America’s southern border. Instead of being forced to release those who bring children with them into American communities, Customs and Border Patrol is now able to house illegal immigrant families together after making arrests.

Similarly, the President took action to close another major immigration loophole earlier this year by reforming asylum policies to prevent “forum shopping” by economic migrants who bypass opportunities for asylum in other countries in order to take advantage of the superior economic opportunities available in the U.S. Unfortunately, a renegade liberal judge in California is on a crusade to block the rule, and recently put the new rule in legal limbo.

Trump has also used diplomacy as an effective tool in the fight against illegal immigration, reaching a major deal with Mexico that has succeeded in dramatically reducing the number of people crossing our southern border illegally. While the agreement was initially derided as a PR stunt by the mainstream media, Mexico has taken concrete steps to step up immigration enforcement and integrate operations more closely with the United States, including deploying more than 20,000 police officers and soldiers to stem the flow of illegal immigrants, especially those coming from Central America.

The Remain in Mexico policy has been among the most successful components of the deal, preventing thousands of immigrants from entering the country under false asylum claims while enabling them to apply for legal residency and work permits in Mexico.

The Trump administration followed that up by signing an agreement with Guatemala that requires migrants to seek asylum there before continuing on to the U.S. — a feat officials are trying to replicate with Honduras and El Salvadore, the other “northern triangle” countries that are responsible for a significant portion of the recent surge in illegal immigration.

Throughout it all, the President has made steady progress on building the border wall that our immigration enforcement agents consider absolutely vital, using his executive authority to secure funds in spite of Democrat obstruction. Just last week, the Pentagon formally approved plans to build 175 miles of barriers along the southern border using $3.6 billion that Trump reallocated earlier this year by declaring the border crisis a national emergency.

As effective as these measures have been at reducing illegal immigration, though, they’re no substitute for congressional action to fix our broken and outdated immigration laws. If Congress were to provide a clear mandate for border security, we could solve the crisis in 15 minutes, as the President says. So long as the Democrats control the House of Representatives, though, it’s clear that Congress will never take this issue seriously.

Since the Democrats have refused to take responsibility for ensuring the safety and prosperity of the American people, Trump has been forced to tackle the illegal immigration crisis all on his own. Fortunately, his bold actions are yielding incredible results. Imagine what we could get done if Democrats wanted to protect America as much as they want to protect illegal immigrants.

Empty the swamp. Democrats sanction abortion, our president opposes abortion.
Democrats have formed a party of death. Our President opposes illegal immigration to protect the USA. Old Pelosi wants the illegals to vote. They wouldn't know what to vote for. Most can't read, so it is just a Pelosi push to further contaminate the voting process and keep Democrats controlling the many offices they claim. Pelosi and Schiff need to be removed from their positions.
    Impeach them.

California, Home of the 9th Circuit, is wracking havoc to not only California but the rest of America. Me Thinks this Judge? should be Impeached for malfeasance and over reach of his Legal authority. ONE UNELECTED person wearing a Black Robe just DECIDES something is unconstitutional in his/her eyes and RULES. How about representing someone in his/her district bring a case so we can determine if it's all Soro's, Steyer Money ?

If the Democrats feel so strongly about protecting illegal immigrants, why not let these people live with them in their homes? Put your money where your mouth is.

Thank you again Mike for your daily input on the issues. You definitely have a tremendous gift to give sharp insight into what is truly going on. Smart and informed American's can see thru the continual obstruction of the Democrats and the left. I pray every morning that God will open American eyes to this nonsense and that when November 3, 2020 comes that President Trump and the Republicans running for the Senate and House will be given a great victory.

The Israelites in the book of Joshua, with Gods help, took the city of Jericho without doing anything more than a shout. The Democrats will pay if it is God's will. He is in charge! The real problem in America is a lack of a healthy fear of God, strong families and a proper upbringing of the children we bring into this world. You can pass gun laws, try to take away our 2nd Amendment rights but the real problem is a spiritual one. It is not just a quick fix by is a product of several generations of moral decay.

Love you Mike but STOP IT! I know most everyone in the media insists on calling them immigrants but calling an illegal alien an immigrant is offensive to those who emigrated by following our laws. Those who came "through the front door" I embrace and welcome, these criminals who sneak in are just that, criminals. So please call them aliens, they most certainly are not immigrants!

Your article uses the term obstructionism and while accurate , the problem is more serious. I believe a more accurate term is sedition or seditious conspiracy. The definition of such is below, verbatim from the US Code. The nation's disloyal opposition aren't yet storming the streets but they have indeed corrupted numerous legislative processes, weaponized some government agencies and perverted the rule of law to prevent execution of existing law.

If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.

    (June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 808; July 24, 1956, ch. 678, §?1, 70 Stat. 623; Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, §?330016(1)(N), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2148.)

Thanks Mike for the updates and more proof President Trump keeps his promises. No longer can we trust career politicians to make the right decisions because their career and livelihood depends on lies and deceit. Trump is the true public servant and I pray our country re-elects him and vote Democrats into a permanent minority!

One way would be to give all "representatives and congress critters" who refuse to do work on economy and illegal issues and extended vacation with NO benefits, incomes .... To include housing, and catered meals, just take outs from fast food- no taste joints,.. and transportation costs.LOCK THEM DOWN!.. Have ALL of their assets frozen.. so they can not buy a cup of coffee or a burger at MC D's... until they decide to WORK FOR the people they are supposed to represent.. The North American citizen... Not the invaders.
They have sworn to uphold our laws and our constitution. If they did not swear in on the Bible get them out. Dual allegiance to ANY other country.( those laws and enforcers are illegal who ever they be.)...No, NO . NEVER NO. Its written in the Book of Books..."ye cannot serve God and Mammon," .."Ye can not serve two masters"... and "a house divided against itself can not stand". Just think about it.

We support our president. So much hate from the other side! We also think he has a great compassion for Americans who are beginning to benefit from his administration and his family's efforts around the world. I only wish we had an honest press to go for the truth. What a country we could have. If Democrats take control, we will lose our Republic.

Of course investigating our own Congressional members and their staffs would be a good idea too!

Justice is not swift or sure in America. We need Judge Bean back or someone like him. Justice delayed causes people to forget the severity of the crime or the crime altogether. All this stalling just tells us peons that our system has been taken over and corrupted by the very people to whom we have given our trust. It's a damn shame that this was allowed to happen and I don't see justice ever being restored.

The Thing I don't understand, is why President Trump can't file suit against all of Congress and any and all Judges who try to stop him from protecting the USA. That is Obstruction of Justice, according to my Macmillan Dictionary. I would love to see the faces of each and everyone of them who get handed law suit papers. He has the proof, so that wouldn't take, as long as, it will for them to investigate him for their phony charge of Obstruction. Just maybe they would back off.
