There’s an old saying attributed to Mark Twain or Benjamin Disraeli, that there are three kinds of lies: “Lies, damned lies and statistics.” One damnably dishonest statistic that’s being quoted far and wide in the media in the wake of the tragic school shooting in Florida is a claim by the pro-gun control group “Everytown for Gun Safety” that there have been 291 school shootings in America since 2013.

The claim seems suspicious on the face of it, considering that it works out to an average of about one school shooting every six days for five straight years. But after Conservative Tribune examined what the group counts as “school shootings,” then…all suspicions were confirmed.

Is America the only place?

By Mike Huckabee

A cliché has arisen among those who are trying to politicize tragic school shootings like the one this week in Florida by blaming guns, Republicans, the NRA or the Second Amendment, that America is the “only place where this happens.” Just five minutes on Wikipedia turned up this, from a list of the top 15 deadliest school massacres in history:

Dunblane Primary School, Scotland (17 killed); Erfurt, Germany (16); Winnenden and Wendlingen, Germany (15); Montreal, Canada (14); Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (12); Baku, Azerbaijan (12); Shiguan, China (12); Volkhoven, West Germany (10); Kauhajoki, Finland (10).

In addition, the top 15 deadliest lone wolf attacks with religious connotations include only one in the US, the attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando (49 killed) at #3. The 15 worst workplace massacres have four in the US, including the Fort Hood shooting at #5, which might also be considered a religiously-motivated terrorist attack. And this doesn’t even get into mass casualty attacks involving other weapons, such as the shrapnel bombs at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, that killed 23 and injured 500.

The Senate tries and fails

By Mike Huckabee

Thursday, the Senate tried (and failed) to pass four different proposals for dealing with the DACA “Dreamers” (children of illegal immigrants). One made it to 59 votes, but none topped the 60-vote threshold to overcome a filibuster which has somehow become the accepted hurdle for anything passing the Senate.

Democrats claim to care so much about protecting the Dreamers, but President Trump gave them a clear path, and they just can’t bring themselves to do it. Trump offered amnesty terms more generous than even Democrats asked for (and way beyond what his own supporters expected), but in return, he demands “four pillars” of border security to make sure we’re never again put in the position of having to deal with millions of illegal immigrants. They are: fix DACA, more funds for border security (i.e., build a wall), better internal enforcement, and limits on legal immigration. Even some of the Dreamers have said it sounds like a good deal to them. Yet no more than a handful of Senate Democrats will support it.

Yesterday’s series of failed votes should send a message to both Dreamers and voters. Democratic leaders have said that protecting the Dreamers is a top priority for them. But when it comes to a vote, the Dreamers take a back seat to opposing Trump and making sure the flood of illegal immigration continues unchecked.

FBI rank and file react

By Mike Huckabee

One of many popular false narratives making the rounds is that by criticizing the actions of a handful of politically-motivated top FBI officials, Republicans are somehow attacking and demeaning all law enforcement agents. I know that I, and most other Republicans I know, have always been very clear that we are not criticizing the many honest, hard-working officers who put their lives on the line every day. They are even more upset than we are that the FBI’s reputation is being tarnished by a small group of partisan egomaniacs at the top. And it appears that rank-and-file law enforcement officers aren’t falling for the claim that President Trump is their enemy, either. Click the link to find out what they really think about working under the Trump Administration.

#1 Item purchased with EBT cards

By Mike Huckabee

For some reason I’m still trying to figure out, some liberals howled in outrage this week over a proposal to replace some of the federal food stamp payments with regular direct deliveries of healthy food, which would be cheaper for taxpayers, more nutritious and convenient for recipients, and help support farmers. Opponents argued that it would take away “choice” from EBT card users.

Well, a new study was just released of the buying choices food stamp recipients are currently making. You’ll never guess what the #1 item purchased with EBT cards was, totaling $357.7 million of taxpayer money. Here’s a hint: it’s hardly a source of nutrition, but it does “add life.”

2,000 bad apples at the IRS

By Mike Huckabee

This week, in reference to all the screaming over White House aide Rob Portman not being fired fast enough due to allegations of domestic abuse, I made the point that even when superiors are aware of unacceptable behavior, it’s almost impossible to get rid of a bad federal employee. Right on cue, here comes yet another example. Or more like 2,000.

The Washington Times reports that nearly 2,000 bad IRS employees – all with known discipline problems - were paid bonuses in 2016 and 2017. The lucky recipients included two IRS employees who illegally snooped on other people’s tax returns, two who sexually assaulted colleagues, and 26 who were actually found to have intentionally cheated on their own tax returns (try doing that yourself and see if the IRS adds a bonus to your refund). In all, $1.7 million in taxpayer money went to pay bonuses to rotten apples at the IRS.

So we shouldn’t just be asking why bad federal employees are still on the payroll. We should also be asking why we’re giving them bonuses and pension benefits, too.

I distributed those cards. Then I would meet those same people in grocery store. Not once did I see a healthy cart! Also saw cheaters in the receivers and some of the caseworkers. ????????????
