WHAT A SPECTACLE

Monday, the US House was the site of one of Washington’s rare instances of the fabled “shameless pander/blatant blame shift/embarrassing cultural appropriation,” the political equivalent of pulling off Rodney Dangerfield’s Triple Lindy high dive from “Back To School.” Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues donned African-inspired kente cloths, kneeled for nine minutes in memory of George Floyd, then introduced a hastily-written bill called the “Justice in Policing Act,” which they claim will “hold law enforcement accountable in court, improve transparency through data collection, and reform police training and policies.”

That’s all well and good, and I’d certainly be willing to hear any suggestions for improving police practices and efficiency, and reducing racism, conflict, and distrust. But pardon me if I can't quite keep a straight face while sniffing so much election-year pandering and insincere opportunism in the air.

The subtext of all this is to signal to black voters that they must once again turn out and line up to put Democrats in charge because only they will take action to correct all this perceived police racism and corruption. But as the linked story points out, all the worst such problems are in blue-state cities – Minneapolis, Baltimore, New York City, etc. - that have been run entirely by Democrats for decades. If these places are hotbeds of systemic racism, then guess who built the systems.

Also worth mentioning: while they try to blame President Trump as if racism were invented during the three years he’s been in office, we had violent race riots stemming from the deaths of black people during police confrontations in Ferguson and Baltimore while Obama and Biden were in office. Biden now joins in with the critics of police in denouncing a 1994 tough-on-crime bill that until recently, he was bragging about having co-authored. So his campaign pitch is that we must elect Democrats to fix the terrible problems that arose and festered for years under Democratic rule, including his own.

And what if we did give them that much power? From 2009 to 2011, we had a black Democrat President, a Vice-President who’s now running for President on the urgent need for police reform, and solid Democratic majorities in both Houses of Congress. What did they do about any issues related to police reform or race relations? Nothing whatsoever. It took Donald Trump to finally press for and sign the prison sentencing reform bill, the First Step Act.

Monday’s spectacle was an entertaining piece of political theater at a time when real theaters were shut down, so we couldn’t see “The Lion King,” that other example of African culture being appropriated for a cartoonish spectacle. And it didn’t go unnoticed by some African-Americans…

But if black voters really think that these are the people they can trust to keep their neighborhoods safe and clean up corruption in the very places where they’ve already been in charge longer than the Millennial protesters have been alive, then another cartoon analogy is more appropriate:

Lucy making big promises that this time will be different, then yanking away the football and leaving Charlie Brown flat on his back for the umpteenth time.

NOT EVEN JOE BIDEN AGREES

The idea of defunding and dismantling police departments, as approved by Minneapolis’s far-left city council, is so “stand-on-you-head-in-a-toilet” crazy that not even Joe Biden, who endorsed the Green New Deal and chose AOC as a “campaign adviser,” will get behind it. His spokesman said Biden does not support defunding the police, but he “supports the urgent need for reform,” which includes “funding for public schools, summer programs, and mental health and substance abuse treatment separate from funding for policing — so that officers can focus on the job of policing.” So funding for police and for everything else. That’s a pretty standard Democratic position.

And since Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Kamala Harris, and other Congressional Democrats are dodging the question like mad, I think we can safely assume they won’t back it, either, they’re just terrified to say so.

Not surprisingly, President Trump gives a firm “no” to the idea of defunding the police. In a meeting Monday with law enforcement leaders to discuss reforms, Trump said he believes there have been instances of racism, but that most cops are “good people.” He said what happened with George Floyd and other such incidents “should never have happened,” and we need to “talk about ideas, how we can do it better and how we can do (policing), if possible, in a much more gentle fashion” (that might require a summit meeting with America’s criminals to get their cooperation.) But he said there will be no defunding of the police on his watch.

And memo to the Minneapolis city council: your attempt to pander went so far overboard that even the president of the NAACP is signaling you to reel it back since he also won’t support defunding the police.

I’d point out this article contains an assertion (“the ‘defund the police’ movement that has gained momentum in recent days”) that I refute. It’s gained publicity, but not momentum. This has been a goal of the radical Antifa crowd for years. They’d love to be able to set fires, smash property and assault, threaten and intimidate people with no consequences, so of course, their goal is to demonize and eliminate the police. They don’t care about George Floyd or racism any more than they care about the black people harmed by their rioting and looting; they just saw this as a convenient trigger to launch their long-planned revolution. But most Americans are smart enough to know “crazy” when they hear it.

I’ll bet if you asked most of the people in the neighborhoods where the rioting took place, they wouldn’t want to do away with the police, either. Who would protect them the next time the rioters turn out to “help” them?

THEY HURT THEMSELVES

As always happens after a bender, the leaders of blue cities who allowed rioters and looters to “vent” are waking up with a big headache and realizing just how much longterm damage has been inflicted – in this case, on the very people the protesters claimed to be championing.

After previous riots in cities like Watts and Detroit, the damage to the economy and quality of life lingered on for years, even decades. Once again, the victims taking the brunt of it are the law-abiding black residents of the neighborhoods that were trashed, burned, and looted. They lost friends and family members killed and injured while trying to defend the businesses they’d spent their lives building, lost their homes, and lost jobs they needed in order to take care of their families.

And now comes the secondary pain: the stores that were burned and looted closed, many possibly for good. The residents depended on those stores for food, medicine, clothing, and other necessities. Now, they’ll have to travel long distances for basic needs. Liberals used to decry what they called “food deserts.” President Trump promoted tax breaks and other incentives to get businesses into these neighborhoods to provide goods, jobs, and services. Now, liberals, in the name of “helping” those communities, are driving the businesses out, leaving the mayors to plead with them not to leave for good.

It’s going to take a lot of convincing to get businesses to stay after this. It will require a leader who knows how to talk to business people, who understands their needs and has experience negotiating deals that will entice reluctant investors to sign. If only someone like that were running for President in 2020!

LISTEN TO THE "EXPERTS" UPDATE

The WHO has now reversed its most recent reversal of its guidelines on wearing face masks in public. Click the link for details. And please note that if you were planning to harangue someone for not following expert advice, make sure it’s the current expert advice, which is what people might have been doing when you harangued them last week.

CONGRATULATIONS TO LARRY ELDER

Congratulations to Larry Elder for joining the elite club of conservatives who get branded by Politifact as saying something that’s “Mostly False,” even though it’s 100% accurate.

I had that honor once. It’s been so long, I don’t even remember that the story was, but I do seem to recall that the facts I quoted were not only accurate, they also came out of the Washington Post. I don’t remember Politifact’s reasoning, but I recall thinking at the time that it amounted to, “What he said is true, but if the facts were different, it would be false.” I think my missing “context” was that I failed to include hypothetical situations in which things were different from what they actually were.

More recently (like in the past three days), we’ve had several web pages at mikehuckabee.com be flagged and blocked by Google. These pages contained no commentary whatsoever: they were just reposts of news videos of comments by people such as the White House press secretary and the Minnesota attorney general. We had to appeal to get them reinstated. Is posting video of prominent people’s own words a thought crime now?

Anyway, when I put quotation marks around the phrase “fact-checker,” these are just a few of the many, many reasons why.

OUTRAGE MACHINE

The OUTRAGE Machine has been fired up again over a story about Buffalo police violently shoving an innocent elderly protester to the ground and leaving him lying injured, with nobody to help him. That would be horrible, except it isn’t true.

As Jack Dunphy at PJMedia (and the video) reveal, the “elderly protester” had a history of profane anti-police online posts. He deliberately tried to block the police as they were moving forward to clear an area after the curfew passed (the curfew was imposed after violent protests and looting left two people shot and three officers injured, one seriously). The man also appears in the video to be trying to use his cell phone to capture Bluetooth and wifi data from the cops’ devices, in violation of state and federal laws. He wasn’t shoved roughly to the ground; he ignored warnings to move and was pushed back in the correct procedural manner. When he fell over backward and appeared to be hurt, the police did step around him, but other cops trained as EMTs immediately rushed up and began giving him aid.

Aside from that, the story was correct. Nevertheless, because of our hypersensitive times, the two officers who made contact with him were suspended without pay and charged with felony assault, to which they’ve pleaded not guilty. Good luck getting a fair trial.

Are you aware that some people (at least two women) belonging to ANTIFA visited Venezuela and met with Maduro and officials at least 7 times. Chavez dissolved the police and created the Bolivarian Police. Thanks. Maria

This is great commentary, but it needs to be seen on more sites, by more people..not just Fox, Conservative sites. Everyone who reads it needs to repost.

Thank you Mike. This news source is perfect for me as a Brit since even the best US news sources I can find in the UK are warped. I don't give a damn you're conservative but I do care about getting truth and Christian attitudes.

I think the best thing they can do about the police departments, officers, procedures, etc. is to just keep doing what they have been doing. One bad apple in Minneapolis doesn't make every police officer in every city in every state into a raciast murderer. Police departments across the country already have anti-bias rules and regulations in place. Just adding more rules, or even completely overhauling the department is not going to make any difference.

So, I don’t really understand pretty much anything that’s going on these days, because it doesn’t make sense, but please tell me why a criminal has been honored as though he was President of the United States. Especially, when I know people who have lost loved ones lately, but because of the Chinese virus they were unable to have more than 10 people at a memorial service. How many lavish funerals have there been for this criminal? Yes, it’s sad how he died (although I don’t think we have the whole story) but isn’t it all overkill? Raum Imanuel said it best - “Don’t let a good crisis go to waste.” We need God back in our lives. Right now we are not “one nation, under God”, but I’m praying ??

Everyone in the country should and Must read Huckabee. Everyone should know everything here! Except that I get so Angry reading some of the things like the "racism that is All Trump's fault", the burning and looting of black neighborhoods, the fact that now these people will not have those stores and services in their own neighborhoods. And it's all "the Republican's and Trump's fault" I think they actually believe this! Last days = Upside down world!

This is an election year. The white cop murdering the black man is much more than meets the eye.
The donkey party want people to think the Republican party is the "racist " party. The fact is, it was the democrat party who promoted slavery, the KKK, planned parenthood and much more. This is a great time to start a "race war". I suggest to you, the white cop murdering the black man was a contract murder. Mark my words, the white cop knows too much and he will end up dead. The democrats don't give a hoot about black people, white people, brown people, only POWER AND MONEY. AMERICA NEEDS A REVIVAL . WE NEED JESUS. HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN CHANGE A HEART.

Guess people do not know their history. The Republican Party was created to fight slavery moving west. They wanted to free slaves. It was the Democratic Party that want to protect slave owners because they themselves were slave owners.
In Jacksonville Confederate statues and memorials are coming down. Those statues are all Democrats. Now the wanting to rename all Schools here wpthat has names of Confederate heros. The Navy is banning Confederate Flags from all their facilities.
I personally dont care but about that one way are the other but is that really going to help black Americans?

I cannot even bare to watch any news media at this time due to the events surrounding George Floyd. I have always been a supporter of the police but the ones exposed for their poor lack of judgement I am not in support of their actions. The news media makes me sick how the protesting dominates anything else happening in our world. Our President needs to be heard and he continues to do a fine job, who cares about Hillary C opinion of his job as President...she is so much a big part of our problems and she should just be quiet. She is going to realize very soon scare tactics will not succeed in taking over the election in November. How I know is that my God has got this in control plus a family member, not a Trump supporter, nonleless is paying attention to the madness erupting and her heart has changed about the party she will not b voting for in November..a hint; no more Jay Inslee as Govenor and no to Joe Biden who she labels as coo coo. Anyway she is listening and many others too who vote, so Hillary beware. God Bless

    Mornin' Governor,
It is my understanding that Congress trussed up in traditional African garb did not go over too well with the 'African American' community. Might requite a 'Fact-check' on this one(chuckling to myself). I did find it amusing that Fancy Nancy was not able to rise after the occasion.
As for the 'elderly protestor'(or is it 'most vulnerable'?)/ anti-police fellow, he put himself in harms way intentionally(definitely a Forrest Gump moment). Moral: "If you're going to stand in the freeway, you're going to get run over."
Last, but most definitely not least, I'll keep law-enforcement, thank you. I tend to like those guys, and pray for them, even the bad ones. Blessings and peace. D.C.

I am so tired of all this negativeness. I do agree the policeman should never have kept his knee on Floyd's neck and killed him. This is not acceptable.
What about black people coming forward to tell of how a policeman may have helped them in a
difficult situation. And I know there are many times the police have helped. This would be a positive spin and get away from the negative attitude that is so harmful. Police deserve better.

Re police “defunding.” Perhaps we should increase funds to hire the most qualified law enforcement personnel, and develop a mechanism to reward ($) positive interactions. Offer opportunities for police to participate in various community organizations, educate public and schools through speaking engagements, and update skills on a biannual or annual basis. Evaluate and eliminate poor performance.

During the time I was an employee and providing for the family my wife and I put together I didn't have time to watch the insane actions of the Congress it was not as inane then as it now. The one time I had an interest was during the Viet Nam war I watched what the President was doing and praying he would stop the war disappointed he didn't. Some got ready physically and mentally to go to war done deal. As I look at the the mean clowns today the war is created by the Left our own citizens leaders I have seen mean enemies without a care for life our Leftist has taken the same stance. The Chicago Mayor complete disgrace NY mayor a buffoon the Minneapolis mayor wears a diaper under his suit and the nations Capital is a fool in every sense of the word. These are enemies of the United States the methods used are without filters the Republican Party are hiding under their desks in the fetal position. The CCP is in the building (House of Representatives) and the Senate its on our American soil its on the air waves Banking institutions its everywhere and it is allowed to stay while it dismantles our freedoms piece by piece. Abolish ICE the Police Departments are the battle cry who does this the CCP its not about Racism thats propaganda spewed by American leaders disguised as the CCP. Believe it or not we better defend against it. We are not Racist America!

Police "reform" is not necessary. What IS necessary is ending the blatant glorification of obvious CONFIRMED criminals, AND the total termination of the blanket pacification of screaming liberals / leftists who advocate for such imbecilities. At this point, neither one of these is very likely to be achieved.... Sadly....

what made george floyd worthy of a televised funeral? he was a common man just like everybody. the police officers that committed the crime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
they are being called racist because the man was black. unless you have 1st hand knowledge of their feelings of blacks or can magically get inside their minds; if not you are only speculating and and guilty of slander. why is it only when a black is killed by law enforcement it gets nation wide attention and condemnation? what about the white man why is it different for them?

I won't be wearing a mask, unless I get sick, or go in a medical building. A young girl in our area was wearing a a mask at work and ended up in the hospital with serious lung troubles because of it. I believe they are more dangerous than help. WHO will probably change their mind again. Many doctors agree with me, I do the spacing though. And if you noted in the article on it, that said it could help, not it would help. I don't think they know, and its showing who is living in fear. I am not, but taking precautions and am not reckless. You need to find the new research on the virus spreading. The newest information is those that have the virus and do not have symptoms probably hardly ever spread it if ever, as perhaps those coming down with it, but no symptoms yet. The reasoning behind that is, how much of the virus they have. The low amounts because they have no symptoms, is not enough to spread it. It takes a lot of exposure for a person to get it. Thats the new findings, there was a lot of technichal stuff I am not going into. Tucker was the first one I heard about it, a couple nights ago. I have also seen it in a news release, so must be something to it. It blows up the whole wear a mask because you don't know if you have it and could spread it theory.

I could not believe my eyes when Pelosi put on Kunta Kinta garb while on the floor. I have never seem her recognize people of color before. How embarrassed were the people of color that stood behind her while demonstrating her phony tribute? Why didn't Pelosi ask Hilary for some hot sauce that she always carries in her purse to use as another prop.I don't know if this was an attempt at humor or sarcasm aimed at people of color what's next a large tub of boiling water with white people in it? Good God y'all I know a little over the top but where is the insanities of Pelosi's bottom floor how low can she go.

The Democratic Party has to be the most anti Colored Organization in America. The Abortion Clinics set up in Colored Districts are always busy When I wanted new business Opportunity to be set up in districts of Color the Democrats burn them down now the Democrats want to defund or abolish police forces Mike lets you I set up a business where no police force is available well we better contract a builder to replace windows and doors we will be restocking shelves every other day not because of sales but thieves and how about our insurance rates or would any one even deliver to our site. Forget it Mike it would be fun working with you but not in a city without the Police. Let's try a place with a good Police Force. That is happening in the city of Minneapolis maybe it can rebuild. When I travel around this country I look for restaurants that are owned by Mom And Pops the food is extraordinary the conditions may be rustic that attracts me, most of the time I really enjoy the visit. Minneapolis is going to lose that charm hopefully it can be relocated away from an a city without police. If Big cities become ghost towns that means city councils, mayors, planning commissions, maintenance department turn into ghost towns and becomes home to the city of Zombies. In the case of Minneapolis the city of Lakes will be the city of Cesspools it is on it's way.

    Dear Mike,

There is no such thing as a "peaceful protest" when it is instigated and fomented by the evil Left. These "protesters" are armed looters, thieves and insurrectionists looking to overthrow our civil society and these insurrections must be dealt with for what they are. Where were the water cannons, the tear gas, the rubber bullets to help protect the actual citizens living there, and their businesses and property? They pay taxes and expect and deserve law and order, not lunacy and chaos.
Citizens of the cities depraved enough to defund their police force will be crying for a Wyatt Earp to come save them as law and order are allowed to devolve into the hell of mayhem, chaos, theft, murder and destruction. Or they will save themselves by simply moving away from the hell their delusional local governments created.

    Sincerely,
    Wallace Rowan

Sad time for our country and to see why 3 funerals and then a big several hour funeral on TV today. This has not been a memorable time for what did happen to this man Floyd and a terrible policeman and what he was meaning to do per a $20 maybe fake bill. Talk too soon someone to him why he had to do this such a minor crime? See that the Protesters lost their way when so many from other anti America group came to riot like Antifa and Black Lives Matter. Burning, looting some killed and to see our DC messed up. We as a society cannot take down our police not many want these jobs. Society cannot exist without their protection.
