--------------------------

For the past three years or so, I’ve heard Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) constantly assail President Trump for not having the proper character or temperament to be President. But I’ve always felt that you could judge those things best by watching what someone does in a crisis.

So far in this pandemic, I have seen Trump move early and amid heavy criticism to try to stop people with infections from coming into the US (you can’t keep a virus out, but you can slow it down and buy precious time.) He’s appointed the best people possible and given them the power, budget and leeway to do what they think needs to be done. He’s taken actions that he knew would kneecap the economy and harm his biggest reelection selling point, but he put the good of America first and did it anyway (I could name some other politicians who would not have done that in an election year - and when faced with the situation, didn’t.) He's trying to walk a tightrope between making the dangers of the disease very clear and reassuring people that it will be all right so don't panic. And he’s reached out to the other Party, urging them to put partisanship aside and work together to deal with the crisis.

So…how has the other side responded? You know, the people with such high standards of “character” for others? Thus far, they have relentlessly attacked, mocked, criticized, second-guessed and undermined everything Trump has tried to do. They accused him of being racist for shutting down travel from China, then after it became clear that was a very smart move, they criticized him for not doing it sooner. They blamed his speech for the drop in the Dow, even though markets were plummeting worldwide before he ever even spoke, and there was nothing he could have said that would have been interpreted as good news for stocks.

With gratitude,

Mike Huckabee

FEATURED COMMENTARY

The switch flips

By Mike Huckabee

I’ve gotten used to Hollywood churning out bad remakes of old movies, but even that didn’t prepare me for the nationwide blanket release of “The Day the Earth Stood Still II.”

Whether it was the rising COVID-19 coronavirus infection levels, President Trump’s address, the news that Tom Hanks was infected or just the Internet’s power to make something go viral (sorry!), it was as if a switch got flipped and suddenly, everything slammed to a halt in a way we haven’t seen with previous pandemics such as the swine flu.

After first saying games would go on without crowds, the NCAA cancelled March Madness and all remaining winter and spring championships. Major League Baseball and the NHL joined the NBA in suspending spring training and games. Broadway theaters shut down, and Disney is closing its theme parks through the end of the month. And the late night “comedy” shows in New York are taping without audiences.

(Side note: I actually watched a little of Steven Colbert last night, to see if I could tell which parts were supposed to be “funny” without the audience whooping and clapping every time they heard a leftwing talking point they agreed with. It was truly deadly. Watching Colbert do six dreadful minutes that felt like 60 of his puerile mockery of Trump into a silent void threw into stark relief just how far late night “comedy” has fallen. The “Comedy Central” virus has infected it and turned monologues and comedy bits into smug, tedious, propaganda lectures. And if you think it’s not possible to be laugh-out-loud funny without a studio audience, Google “Bob and Ray.”)

In some places, all gatherings of 250 or 500 or more people have been banned. Some airlines are offering discounts up to 90% to entice people to fly, but the question is, ‘What would you do when you got there?”

Leave it to the humor site the Babylon Bee to find a silver lining in all this with a story headlined, “Nation’s Nerds Wake Up In Utopia, Where Everyone Stays Inside, Sports Canceled, Social Interaction Forbidden”:

https://babylonbee.com/news/nations-nerds-wake-up-in-utopia-where-everyone-stays-inside-sports-canceled-social-interaction-forbidden

(This echoes “Huckabee” writer Pat Reeder’s comment on Facebook: “They say the best way to avoid the coronavirus is ‘social distancing.’ Finally, my lifestyle since high school is vindicated.”)

Of course, another bright spot is that with the airports empty, absolutely nobody is watching CNN bash Trump.

Chinese state media is threatening that China could cut off exports of the pharmaceuticals we’ve allowed to be manufactured there and plunge America into “the mighty sea of coronavirus.”

Anyone still want to make the argument that Trump is xenophobic for saying we need to bring manufacturing back to the US and quit relying on China for our necessities?

Friday Fake News! It’s comforting to know that despite the coronavirus shutdowns, some people are continuing to work just as hard as ever to do their jobs, like all the members of media outlets who are continuing to churn out anti-Trump fake news from home in their pajamas. Today’s example: No, Trump did NOT “storm out” of a press conference on the coronavirus, unless “storm out” has now been redefined to mean “exit slowly to stage right.”

The Wisdom of Chairman Joe: Blasting President Trump’s travel ban, Joe Biden piously declared, “A wall will not stop the coronavirus.” That prompted Rep. Dan Crenshaw to tweet back, “First, walls quite literally stop a virus. It’s kind of the whole point of a quarantine.” He added that if Biden meant it metaphorically, health experts agree that the travel ban greatly slowed the spread of the virus.

Someone should tell Joe that comments like that are never going to get him elected to the Senate.

Bible Verse of the Day (KJV)

"And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."

We should not rely on ANYONE other than us to make anything. All manufacturing should be done here like it used to be. I can remember the Broom and Box Factories, Shoe Factories and we even had a Cap and Gown Factory in our small town in IL when I was growing up! There is no reason we cannot make our own supplies! Especially Medications and some such!

Dear Gov Huckabee, I feel sorry for former VP Biden being used by the Democratic Party the way he is. This should be considered Elder Abuse! Praying for our Nation, President Trump and VP Pence. Praise God they are leading this country. God Bless us all.

Donald J. Trump may not "act" presidential, (according to Media & democrats) But, he is the President we need and have always wanted. Lincoln and Reagan, were Presidential but Trump has broken the mold. Any future Presidents must emulate Trump if they want to be worthy.
