Cutting a deal on DACA

October 9, 2017

Sunday, the Trump Administration released a list of conditions that it expects Congress to include in any replacement of the DACA program. Anyone who thought that President Trump was caving to the Democrats without expecting anything in return must not have read “The Art of the Deal,” because Trump put down everything on his wish list, including border wall funding.

Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are already squealing that they “explicitly” ruled out funding a border wall. Well, Trump’s voters explicitly ruled it in, and Democrats don’t run Congress anymore, so it’s back. Along with a lot of other things that they describe as “anathema to Dreamers,” but which most Americans probably would describe with a term the Democratic leadership constantly misuses: “common sense.”

The Administration’s demands include targeting the bill only to children of illegal immigrants brought to the US without their consent and giving them a pathway to legal status, not citizenship; funding to hire more immigration judges, attorneys and prosecutors and 10,000 more ICE agents, to clear out the backlog of cases and increase law enforcement; requiring employers to use E-verify, a simple method to prevent hiring illegal workers; and denying federal funds to “sanctuary cities” that refuse to comply with federal law.

They also seek to have unaccompanied minors caught entering the US illegally to be treated as adults, as long as they’re not the victims of human trafficking and it would be safe to return them home. And it would expand the list of "inadmissible aliens" to include gang members, those convicted of an aggravated felony, and former spouses and children of drug and human traffickers if they receive benefits from those activities (and why are they admissible now?)

Democratic leaders are already denouncing the Trump list of demands as unacceptable. And maybe it is just an opening bid for negotiations. But before it gets winnowed down, I think a lot of Americans want – and indeed, deserve – to know precisely which demands that I detailed above, many of them simply enforcing bipartisan laws that have long been on the books, that Democratic leaders think are “unacceptable.” And why.

PLEASE LEAVE ME A COMMENT BELOW.  I READ THEM!

"If it's safe to return them home," is a political loophole, to let illegals stay.

It is absolutely great to hear President Trump not backing down on his laundry list of items he expects to be added or at least discussed and made in to law with the new DACA legislation. We all definitely support President Trump and it is so great to see you communicating the truth on what is truly going on in Washington. It is also amazing to see God's richest blessing upon our nation and to see God at work literal revealing (calling out) the evil we continue to see from the true liberal Democrats. I honestly know for a fact that God had a very strong hand in our Presidential election, now we truly must stand and provide our full support to our President and continue to fight the lies and immoral behavior the liberal Democrats have left us after the Obama years. The liberal Democrats truly believe good is evil and evil is good, we see it daily within their actions, comments and very destructive protesting. May God continue to bless us with more Republican / Conservative wins in 2018, 2020....

Build the Wall.....take away all the "pork" that the Politian's come up with and we have the funds to Build the Wall. Nothing else congress has come up with has worked so Build the wall. May be a little harder for Dems to get the votes without the undocumented immigrants helping out but....oh well.

I am a proud American and U.S. military veteran of service in Iraq and Afghanistan. I reside now in my home state of Massachusetts and I am attending a community college, amongst many "dreamers." I am a conservative and supporter of President Trump. I and other conservatives that attend my school do so in an atmosphere where liberal and socialist views are voiced openly, often with applause. However, on the other hand a conservative at the school must keep any opposing views silent or at a whisper, for he/she risks being berated by insults, such as being called a racist. Such an unwelcoming environment for conservatives of course exist throughout this state and not just in the colleges.
I believe undocumented immigrant students and their advocates are doing themselves a huge disservice by blindly following Democrats and not having constructive conversations with Republicans. Dems are fronting this issue under the guise of “victimization,” as they do with many issues, while conservatives want a secure border as first priority and meanwhile propose bipartisan conversation to find common sense and long term solutions on immigration.
DACA as it stands and by design is a temporary fix, a band-aid if you will. Leading the battle, President Trump is currently offering to address the DACA issue by proposing bipartisan talks in hopes of a path towards a real solution and real legislation. In exchange he is asking for help to enforce current law with funding for border security. The Dems fight against increased border security and enforcement of current immigration laws, this not because they have real compassion for undocumented immigrants, but they primarily contest the enforcement because it would threaten a large voter base they are highly dependent on. Democrats since the 1960’s have thrived on getting votes from groups that are made to feel they are being victimized or discriminated upon.
I'm saddened how these immigrant students are being deceived and exploited by the Democrats nationwide. I have compassion and sympathy for these youngsters who are in a tough place currently through no fault of their own. I support a path to citizenship for them, but believe measures must be made to avoid chain migration and wide spread amnesty. I stand with the President. Securing our borders and enforcing the immigration laws that are already in place need to come before any further discussion on immigration reform with Democrats. The more the Dems fight President Trump when he proposes reasonable solutions on major issues of concern to Americans, the more their party will struggle in future elections. The 2016 Election bled RED! Get on board Dems or risk perishing by your own undoing!

Thank you Governor for keeping us informed! You're a true patriot and great American. Congrats on the new show as well. I love it!

My husband and I were stationed in a foreign country years ago where I gave birth to our second daughter. Although she was born in a foreign country and has a foreign birth certificate, she is an American citizen because we are. I believe the same should hold true for Mexican babies born here. They are still Mexican citizens. The way I understand my daughter's situation is that she can claim dual nationality (not dual citizenship), but if she does that she is liable to uphold the laws of both countries.

Who gives Democrats the right to decide what LAWS they choose to be unacceptable without passing a bill to end that law. Congress is a body of law makers and law changers, but that is subject to vote of the percentage of a majority deemed by law. It's definately a "new world" for Democrats who thought it would be business as usual with a majority Republican congress. Representatives are doing a better job than the Senate. We certainly need a much larger majority of loyal Republicans in the Senate. It is so frustrating to the voters who thought we made our wishes known in 2016. We need to replace those who are not loyal to their voters with someone who will work to make the changes that are so needed in America today.

It would be nice to know how many or what percent of those eligible for deferred action arrived by age bracket. For example: Under 6, under 12, under 16. I understand the majority arrived in their early to mid teens. Those children do know their homeland contrary to the oft claimed "know no other country" talking point.
I would offer a path to legal residence to any who speak English and have gainful employment or who have served our country.

Law and order, a bedrock of this country since inception, should be the main guiding principle for any politician representing Americans. Clearly, this concept is lost on Democrats and alot of Republicans cirrently serving in Congress. Self-service, not public service, is the modus operandi in Washington.

I really don't care if libtard democrat leaders think the laws on the books are acceptable or unacceptable. If they fail to fund any program because it will cause a law to be enforced, then they should be charged with felony obstruction of justice, removed from office, and barred from ever holding public office again.

First they were saying we were sending their illegal parents home and breaking up their families. We have paid to have them born, housed, feed, medicated and educated, now let them return with their families and clean up their own country Just because they were born or brought here as children they still aren't or shouldn't be citizens and it is so unfair to those that have worked so hard to do it the right wait. Farewell to all of them!!! And the sooner the better.

I am totally behind everything President Trump has done to this point. He did promise to build the wall and crack down on illegal immigration, which is long over due. I do feel for the children that were brought here by their parents, but any other country, especially the ones they come from would not hesitate to jail and then deport a person who did that in their countries.
Un-brain washing this new generation after 8 years of drinking Obama Koolade is going to be a tough job. Glad to have someone who will stand up to all this garbage.

I agree with President Trump's demands. The Republicans, especially in the Senate, let the Democrats rule the roost. They do not care about this country or it's people, they only care about themselves and their agendas. I am personally sick of them. It is refreshing to finally see a president that is willing to go to bat for our country and try to restore some sanity. If the Democrats really cared about DACA, they would be willing to meet Trump's demands, if not, I guess they have other motives!

Obama is the one who put this burden of DACA firmly on the shoulders of American citizens. If the "Dreamers" want to stay here so badly, then they MUST become citizens! And congressional members like Pelosi who do not support the LAWS of the land, should be thrown out of government! They swore an oath to uphold our laws - which DACA definitely is not. DACA enabled immigrants to have a deferred action of two years - which sadly, due to the ineptitude of the (then) democratic congress, has now fallen into the lap of our Republican President and Congress. The Bill has been rescinded - game over! Become a citizen or go back to your country of origin and take your illegal families
with you! Why is this even being questioned? This would never happen in ANY of the immigrants countries!

I think anyone who wants to become a citizen of this country should be given an opportunity to earn citizenship. My suggestion would be that they could serve a term in the military or some other service to the country, like we offer (I think) to the citizens of the Philippines. Of course, I think the citizens of this country would have a lot more respect for our flag and national anthem if they served our country, too.

IT'S PERSONAL WITH THEM AND THEY NEVER PUT THE WELL BEING OF THEIR FELLOW AMERICANS INTO CONSIDERATION, IT'S THE PARTY OF "NO", NOT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY THE PARTY OF "NO", THEY MAKE ME SICK, THEY ARE A IGNORANT, SELFISH, SELF CENTERED GROUP ELECTED WHOM SIMPLY SERVE NO ONE OTHER THAN THEMSELVES. WE KNOW THEM WELL "LET'S TAKE THEM OUT AND MAKE POTUS'S AGENDA MOVE FORWARD!

President Trump is doing a superior job. I definitely support his immigration demands, including no negotiation on DACA/visa overstayers. Need to increase
penalties for drunken illegals who kill--for example--father and two young children: 2 years imprisonment is a disgrace. Please give his grieving activist-in-the-making wife airtime, Mike.
The administration needs to get rid of obama obstructionists, mueller and his bunch of overpaid legal thugs, and be dedicated to get Ryan, O'Connell, and the rest of the RINOs out of office.

How can anyone think that just because your mother sneaked across the border ILLEGALLY to give birth - that the baby should automatically be pronounced an AMERICAN CITIZEN!!! Immigration laws have always been in place. The fact they were ignored by previous administrations and not enforced does not make them null and void. Democrats had no business making promises they couldn't keep then nor do they have any business making them now. They don't run this country the PEOPLE do. I saw an interview where Nancy Pelosi was asked by a DACA recipient if she would promise and commit to certain concessions and she unhesitantly said yes! What gives her that authority? The DACA receipients at her speech prior to that screamed her down and demanded their families be allowed to stay then demanded and chanted "all 11 million". Then they screamed "you promised us". A lot of this problem is we have members of CONGRESS breaking our laws. The very laws many of them participated in making. They have gone completely rogue, doing whatever they feel like doing whenever they feel like doing it. This has to stop! Buying votes, encouraging illegal voting, favoring illegals over citizens of the U.S., has pushed every limit, every button, flown every red flag as they selfishly and foolishly sell out our country to preserve their power and income.

We have to get rid of the rino's and put some strong conservatives in office. Hoping Paul Ryan does not get back in office, I will be working hard to get Paul Nehlen elected.
