Today's Commentary:  Fight fake news-- Media refuse to respect President Trump -- Prayer -- "Punish the wicked" -- CNN = Cratering News Network

While President Trump was making one of the finest speeches of his life in Poland, our news media talking heads were either scolding him for daring to defend Western values and national sovereignty or nattering on about personal sleights and fake gotcha stories.

Just a few examples: CNN’s Jim Acosta embarrassed himself by aggressively questioning President Trump’s honesty for saying it was three or four agencies, not 17, that endorsed the idea of Russian election interference. He demanded to know where Trump got that figure. Uh…from the New York Times’ official correction of the “17 agencies” figure that came out this week? It would be nice if the people giving us the news would read it themselves first.

Then there was the selectively-edited video clip allegedly showing the first lady of Poland snubbing the President to shake Melania’s hand. If you let the clip run another six seconds, you see she then shakes Donald'’s hand. That clip made CNN’s Chris Cillizza tweet, like an overstimulated 13-year-old girl (and I quote): “OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD…” and so on to 140 characters. It inspired Polish President Andrzej Duda to send out his own all-caps tweet: “FIGHT FAKE NEWS.”

Media refuse to respect President Trump

By Mike Huckabee

When the talking heads weren’t getting their facts wildly wrong, they were excoriating Trump for violating the sacred tradition (which I admit, I’ve never heard about) of Presidents not criticizing cable TV news anchors while on foreign soil. Now, I have heard of an old tradition that you don’t criticize the US President when he’s on foreign soil. I stuck to that one all through the Obama years, but the media flushed it down the toilet the nanosecond Obama left the White House. And Trump's critics didn't seem bothered at all that Obama spent the Fourth of July weekend badmouthing American patriotism as nationalism and bigotry while on foreign soil in Indonesia.

They also made a big fuss over Trump taking his first question from the British tabloid, the Daily Mail, rather than one of the US establishment media outlets that’s been attacking him relentlessly. Think of it what you will, but the Daily Mail is possibly the most widely-read media outlet in Europe. And they didn’t mention that the very next question he took was from NBC. They whined that he was freezing them out and silencing them, when they were actually just having a childish fit because someone else got to go first.

Frankly, it’s breathtakingly hypocritical for the same media figures who have been acting like (as they’re referred to on the Instapundit site) “Democratic operatives with bylines” to suddenly pose and preen as wounded professionals who aren’t being shown due respect when they’re called out on their bias and lack of fact-checking. From the second Trump was elected, they’ve treated him as an illegitimate usurper and shown no respect for his office, yet they demand the leader of the free world show due respect to them. They don’t ask questions of Sean Spicer, they hurl attacks and accusations; then they wonder why he’s not nicer to them, which is like wondering why a bullfighter doesn’t try to pet the bull. Where I come from, respect is something you earn. And once you’ve squandered it, you can’t just demand it back. You have to work extra hard to earn it back.

The media accuse Trump of not acting like a President when they refuse to treat him like the President. Maybe if they want him to treat them like professional journalists, they should try acting like professional journalists.

Here’s a poll whose results must’ve shocked the Washington Post pollsters: It found that about half of all Americans say a prayer over their food before eating, at least a few times a week. It’s common across various demographic groups and both political parties, and even those who don’t subscribe to an organized religion; although if you are a Republican or a black Evangelical, you’re more likely to say a prayer before eating than if you’re, say, a Democrat or a white non-Evangelical Protestant. I wonder how many atheists even say a prayer before eating if the restaurant looks bad enough.

It’s a reminder that despite a poll showing a belief in God or prayer hit an “all-time low” in 2014, in America, that “low” is still a very high number (even in that poll, 55% still said they pray every day.)

"Punish the wicked"

By Mike Huckabee

Remember how proponents of gay marriage said that people of faith had no reason to oppose it because it would never affect them? And then, once they got what they wanted, they immediately began trying to use that dubious Supreme Court ruling to override the First Amendment and sue, prosecute and drive into bankruptcy anyone who still held religious beliefs that didn't kowtow to their agenda? Another thing we hear from those same “progressives” is a lot of balloon juice about the horrible corrupting influence of big money in politics.

Well, meet the gay software tycoon who’s quietly helped finance this legal crusade to the tune of $422 million, and who now has declared the next step in his battle is to “punish the wicked” – with “the wicked” being defined as anyone who still refuses to sacrifice his or her personal sacred religious beliefs on the altar of his radical LGBTQ political agenda. He sounds as if he wants to force God out of the way so that he can take over His job.

CNN = Cratering News Network

By Mike Huckabee

Amid a flurry of exposes, biased reports and fake news stories, CNN’s ratings have plummeted. How low? This week, the prime time cable TV ratings had CNN in 13th place, behind Nickelodeon’s reruns of “Full House” and “Yogi Bear.” Maybe that’s because you’re more likely to see a Boo-Boo on a CNN news report than on “Yogi Bear.”

Governor Huckabee, I love reading the stories that he publish here. It has been incredible how the liberals and media have reacted to the election of President Trump. You may recall that when President Obama was elected back in 2008 and again in 2012 most conservatives did not like it much. However, most of us responded with our daily prayers. We prayed that President Obama would not carry the U.S. past a point of no return. Now that are prayers are answered and President Trump is correcting a lot of the previous mistakes, the liberals can do nothing but complain and march on Washington. If liberals new how to pray, it would be a lot easier on all of us.

I decided to write this letter primarily for one thing. Most members of the press of been disrespectful to the President by always referring to him as "Trump". It is inappropriate and it has become a bad habit for most people. It only takes a few seconds to include his humble title and refer to him as "President Trump". It also serves as a reminder to all listeners and readers that he is our President. Please consider adding his official title in all future writings. I think it will be good for the country.
    Thanks, Bruce Hancock
