Punching back

January 20, 2020 |

Last week, I compared Arizona Sen. Martha McSally’s response to CNN reporter Manu Raju (“You’re a liberal hack, buddy”) to Rick Gervais’ blistering speaking-truth-to-powerful-liberal-hypocrites monologue at the Golden Globes.  I suggested that this, along with Dave Chappelle’s recent HBO special, might signal a turning point in our current culture, the moment at which the population at large finally reached its limit of patience, stood up and smacked down the pious leftist media hacks/PC social media mobs who think they have the right to tell all the rest of us what we’re allowed to think and say or else.

Just as Gervais and Chappelle’s comedy earned them scathing reviews from media critics and cheers from millions of fans, McSally’s blunt take on CNN outraged the news media and gave her reelection campaign a huge boost. It’s so popular, her campaign bought the URL www.liberalhack.com to take donations and sell “You’re a liberal hack, buddy” T-shirts. Meanwhile, Wolf Blitzer and other wounded media figures demanded an apology, and McSally told them where they could put that demand, saying that she merely told it like it was.

Naturally, President Trump praised McSally’s smackdown of his eternal nemesis "fake news CNN" and tweeted his support for her reelection.  In fact, Trump is truly the spiritual grandfather of this movement, having spent the past few years showing Republicans that when you’re unfairly attacked by biased news media figures, you don’t have to just roll over and apologize to them for your unworthiness.  You can fight back.  To those who claim that in doing this, that vulgarian Trump has lowered the level of civility in political discourse, I would remind them of this quote: “If you get hit, we will punch back twice as hard.” That was Obama deputy chief of staff Jim Messina’s advice to Democratic Senators on how to respond to critics of Obamacare.

Well, Republicans, and everyone else who’ve been the victims of the Twitter mobs and the cancel culture have reached the last straw (and if you don’t like that it’s a plastic straw, tough), and they’re now punching back, too.  Not pleasant, is it?  Maybe some better advice would have been, “If you don’t like being punched, don’t throw punches at other people first.”

That’s David Marcus’ advice to CNN at The Federalist, and he makes a good case that they’ve been treating conservatives as punching bags for a long time, and it’s high time one of those bags bounced back and smacked them in the teeth.

Great article, lets all continue to fight back against fake news and all news media that continue to report lies and false information. CBS, MSNBC, ABC, CNN, FOX, NBC and others are all doing it, that’s why I have stopped watching and listening to any of it and I will continue to encourage everyone else to also stop listening and watching their garbage reports.

It's been a rude awakening for the msm that conservatives are standing up to their bullying, are loudly calling them out on their push of propaganda and misinformation an lies. Not that it stops them, but at least they are publicly called out on it. Not to say it never happened before, but White House press conferences were never the same after Sarah Sanders, who certainly did not back down, did not take the bullying of "reporters"_-and it was mostly one who thought he was "all that." I'm not a twitter user, but I must say, the President's (and some others) use of it seems to be more effective than letting "reporters" misquote his statements---it's all printed right out there to see!!!

OMG!!! GASP!!! There are people who not only question the veracity of msm reporting, they GASP let the whole world know!!!! ;)
