--------------------------

On Monday, Joe Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, offered a somewhat less than compelling reason to vote for her husband for President. It’s just about the most lackluster endorsement I’ve ever heard. To paraphrase: You may think some other candidate has a better position on, say, health care, but you’ve got to look hard at who can win this election, and maybe you “swallow a little” this time and vote for my husband, even if you like someone else better, because the bottom line is, we have to beat Trump.

As I joked with Sean Hannity Tuesday night, I would hope my wife would be more enthusiastic than that. I can’t even imagine Janet, back when I was running for President, offering this kind of ringing endorsement: “Come on, you've got to vote for my husband. Hold your nose, swallow hard --- he’s not worth a darn, but, heck, we’ve just gotta win, so we really need for him to get your vote.” Janet was a tad more enthusiastic than that when I was campaigning. But Jill Biden said essentially that while speaking on behalf of her husband. With that level of enthusiasm on her part, you have to wonder if she might be holding her own nose a little bit when she votes for him.

Alana Goodman at the WASHINGTON EXAMINER has just reported on six different major events that Joe Biden has described from his life that, as far as anyone knows, never actually happened, such as working as a coal miner, being shot at in Iraq, having his helicopter being forced down in Afghanistan and discovering the location of Osama bin Laden’s safe house, being a leader in civil rights sit-ins, little things like that. Is Biden mistakenly inserting himself into a variety of historical situations, a la Forrest Gump, because that’s the way he actually remembers his life? (Of course, we know Hillary must have been outright lying when she said SHE was fired upon in a foreign country, in her case Bosnia, but I digress.) Or does he just think you get to say anything and everything during a Presidential campaign because it all just mushes up together and doesn’t much matter? Maybe it’s a little of both.

Corny poll

By Mike Huckabee

While polls this early aren’t reliable, some of them are more interesting and fun than others. One that deserves notice is the Iowa State Fair’s “Cast Your Kernel” poll, which lets fairgoers drop a kernel of corn into the bottle of the presidential candidate they support.

For the past couple of weeks, Democratic hopefuls have been running around the fairground more than 4H members with prize-winning pullets, trying to drum up support. But with all the corn kernels now cast, the results were 33,280 kernels cast for Republican candidates, and 33,165 cast for Democrats. Broken down by candidate, Trump had 32,375 kernels, while the top Democrat, Biden, had only 8,143. That’s remarkable, considering Trump didn’t even visit the Iowa State Fair.

It sounds corny, but in the last election, Trump beat Hillary by 56-44% in the kernel contest, and he went on to win Iowa by close to 10 points. I believe that makes the corn kernel poll substantially more accurate than most polls in 2016, and a heck of a lot easier to swallow.

Botched abortions

By Mike Huckabee

There was a recent controversy that the media tried very hard to ignore, over Democratic politicians arguing that doctors should not have to provide medical care to babies born alive during “botched” abortions (a “botched abortion” is a medical procedure in which, despite the doctor’s best efforts, the patient survives.)  There were several outlandish excuses offered for not providing the newborn the same basic right to emergency medical care that’s guaranteed by law to everyone in America, such as claiming that it somehow infringed on the mother’s right to control her own body (even though her body was now completely separate from her child’s.)

When those arguments failed to persuade anyone with a functioning brain or heart, another was floated: that the whole debate was just a pointless distraction because babies being born alive during abortions “never happens.”  Why, the whole scenario was nothing but a rightwing fantasy. Turns out that was a botched attempt to abort the truth.

https://www.westernjournal.com/disturbing-state-records-reveal-dozens-babies-born-botched-abortions/

Fox News examined records from just three states - Arizona, Florida and Minnesota – and estimates that since 2016, at least 40 babies were born alive after failed abortions.  Meanwhile, the CDC investigated 588 infant deaths between 2003 and 2014, and it estimates that at least 143 were deaths of babies that were born alive during abortions. Because of gaps in the records and differing record requirements in each state, the post-abortion death toll could be significantly higher.

So far in 2019, there have been 112 people killed in mass shootings.  “Progressives” call that an intolerable death toll and are demanding to rewrite the Constitution to try to end it. Meanwhile, their reaction to the deliberate withholding of medical care to born-alive babies until they die – resulting in, at bare minimum, at least 143 deaths of children since 2003 – is silence and denial.

I really don’t want to hear another word out of them about “coldhearted” Republicans who don’t care about protecting innocent children.

Buying Greenland?

By Mike Huckabee

President Trump apparently wasn’t kidding about the US considering buying Greenland from Denmark (Greenland is an autonomous Danish territory that’s vital to US defense interests because of its location near the North Pole and between North America and Russia.  There are also concerns about China wanting to put three air bases there.)

When Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen dismissed the idea as “absurd,” Trump canceled his planned trip to Denmark two weeks from now. He said, "The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct. I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!"

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-cancels-visit-denmark-pm-greenland

(I love the way he phrased blowing off the Danish Prime Minister in such complimentary terms.  I’m also relieved that he didn’t praise the Danish people as “great, great Danes.”)

The announcement caught politicians, pundits, and Danish officials off-guard since they assumed there was more to the visit than discussing buying Greenland.  But Trump is, after all, a real estate guy, and if you refuse to deal, he’ll walk away from the table and let you think for a while about what you're passing up.

And for the record: before you buy any claims that no other President has ever been so crazy and unstable as to come up with the wacky idea of buying Greenland, you should know that shortly after World War II, Democratic icon Harry S. Truman offered to buy Greenland for $100 million.  Denmark turned him down, too, but then, he hadn’t read “The Art of the Deal.”

Continuing its series of investigative reports into how cities run for a long time by liberals are becoming dangerous, unlivable dumps, Fox News now turns its sites on Portland, Oregon, where homeless people with mental issues and drug addictions are overwhelming the city, affordable housing is scarce, and the mayor seems to think that Antifa is a sewing circle. Residents increasingly complain that they face only two choices: put on blinders and try to ignore the dangerous problems or flee.

After you read the real report on Portland, you must read this story from the satirical website, The Babylon Bee. As with all good satire, it conveys more truth in the form of a joke story than you will hear in a dozen press conferences with actual Portland officials.

Congratulations to Eric and Lara Trump on the birth of their second child, Carolina Dorothy Trump. And congratulations to the President on the arrival of his tenth grandchild.

Anyone who has grandkids will tell you that they are a treasure beyond any amount of gold. However, when you have ten grandkids, being a billionaire does help.
