Evening Edition - April 18

April 18, 2019

Still sifting through the Mueller Report and will have a full write-up tomorrow, but here are a couple of immediate thoughts on Thursday's "big reveal" final episode:

Bill Barr reminded me of an adult speaking to a roomful of rowdy children and trying to keep the words as simple as possible so that they can understand them.  I suggest that Nancy Pelosi use him as a model for talking to her "progressive" caucus.

Bottom line of the two-year, $30 million investigation: nobody colluded with Russia, nobody tried to obstruct the investigation.  It was the most expensive amateur production of "Much Ado About Nothing" ever staged.  Or possibly the longest episode of "Seinfeld."

Jerry Nadler is living proof that stomach surgery can reduce your fat but it can't make you any less fatuous.

Stop the presses!  This is major, unexpected news!

A Democrat just announced that he is NOT running for President in 2020!

We promise to report it immediately if this ever happens again.

If you listen to the mainstream media, you know that Trump supporters – those folks who go around wearing confrontational MAGA caps in public instead of something non-controversial, like Antifa masks – are all anti-immigrant white supremacists who promote violence and commit hate crimes.

At least, that’s what the mainstream media think Trump supporters are because so many people who work in the media have never actually met one.

So allow me to introduce them to one.  Last Saturday, he was taking a walk after dinner in Germantown, Maryland, minding his own business, when two men in their 20s began harassing him for wearing his MAGA cap.  When he tried to walk away, they attacked him, striking him repeatedly and stealing his MAGA cap. (It was like Jussie Smollett's story, only in reverse and true.) Fortunately, he was able to get a photo of his attackers, and they were arrested.

The Trump-supporting victim is Atsu Mable, a legal immigrant from the West African nation of Togo.  When asked by Fox News host Steve Ducey if he had anything to say to his attackers, this was his reply:

“I have a message for love — that Jesus said in the Bible that you must love your neighbor, so I still love them.  I think whatever happened to me that day should not happen to anybody, for their political view. So I still love them and I forgive them. I’m ready to make peace with them if I could see them again.”

Asked why he supports Trump and wears a MAGA hat, Mable said, “I like the message that the president brought back in 2015 when he was running. And then I liked the message and I’m seeing what he’s doing.  But I’m not here to criticize anybody or put anybody down for if they are left or right, or if they are red or blue. I know that the President has his own agenda, and that agenda — I do believe in that agenda — and he is delivering on it and making this country great again.”  As for whether he would wear the cap again even after being assaulted for it, he said yes, adding, “I’m very proud of wearing the hat.”

I would now offer free MAGA caps to members of the mainstream media, but having just learned that Trump supporters can and do include people such as a black African immigrant who was attacked by leftist thugs but turned the other cheek and forgave them, I assume they can’t wear caps because their heads just exploded.

Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting, which up to that time was the deadliest school shooting in America, and which sparked other copycat shootings.  Wednesday, many schools in the area near Columbine closed out of concern that a young Florida woman who was reportedly infatuated with the shooting had traveled to Colorado and was “armed and extremely dangerous.”  But the alerts were called off after it was discovered that she had died of an apparent suicide.

https://www.westernjournal.com/manhunt-armed-woman-infatuated-columbine-closes-dozens-schools-suspect-dead/

It’s a relief to see that since the days of Columbine (or maybe just since Parkland), authorities are taking signs of threats and mental instability seriously to prevent school shootings.  It’s a terrible tragedy, though, that her worrisome social media postings weren’t taken seriously enough soon enough to save her from herself.

This weekend on “Huckabee” on TBN, I’ll be talking about the Columbine shooting with a guest who was a survivor.  He participated in a new video series about how the survivors coped, healed, found forgiveness and moved forward.  I’ll talk to him about his harrowing and inspiring story and where you can watch the full series online for free.

With shelters full to capacity and the Border Patrol being forced to release illegal immigrants into the streets, city officials in the border city of Yuma, Arizona, have declared a state of emergency to beseech the federal government to help them deal with the mobs of illegal migrants roaming their streets, clashing with residents and threatening people’s property.

Don’t worry, I’m sure that liberals in Washington, New York and L.A. will immediately swing into action and assure Yuma officials that there is no emergency in Yuma, Arizona.

President Trump criticizes the press for printing fake news about him: The left accuses him of launching an assault on freedom of the press.

The New York Post prints real news about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s dismissive comments about 9/11: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorses a boycott of the Post.

Or as the rest of the media would say, “So somebody did something hypocritical, nothing to see here, let’s move on…”

Frankly, I would rather hear the comments of a father who lost his heroic firefighter son on 9/11.  He knows it was a lot more than “some people did something.”  And unlike AOC, he wasn’t 12 years old when it happened.

Yet more proof that if women are looking to liberals to protect their rights and physical safety, they’re in for a rude awakening. They will find that women’s rights have now been moved to the back of the line.  And just for the record: we awful, un-woke conservative males think that if some guy comes into the girls’ bathroom, makes a girl feel threatened and won’t let her leave, a knee to the groin sounds like the perfect amount of force.

(From “Huckabee” writer and resident pop culture historian Pat Reeder: http://www.facebook.com/hollywoodhifibook )

It’s time to give a final curtain call to two well-loved stars from very different fields.  First, it was announced that Georgia Engel passed away last Friday in New Jersey at 70 (she was a Christian Scientist who didn’t consult doctors, so no cause of death was given.)

She first came to fame on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” as Ted Baxter’s girlfriend/wife Georgette, a role for which she earned two Emmy nominations.  She later played Robert’s mother-in-law Pat on “Everybody Loves Raymond” (three Emmy nominations) and eventually reteamed with her “MTM Show” co-star Betty White on “Hot In Cleveland.”

Engel was the daughter of a US Coast Guard Admiral, and she grew up constantly moving to different places.  Maybe that contributed to her developing the unique, shy, trying-hard-to-please persona that made her famous.  Her soft voice and timid, innocent manner were the delivery system for some hilariously incongruous lines, such as telling her sanctimonious husband on “Raymond, “Now, you know I love you with all my heart, Hank.  But I think if I didn't have my cigarettes, I would have to FIGHT you!”

In addition to her many TV roles, she also appeared on stage.  Bob Martin, who co-wrote the Broadway musical hit “The Drowsy Chaperone,” tweeted, “I have never met anyone who was less like anyone else than Georgia Engel.”  Betty White once said of her, “That’s not a character, that’s our Georgia.  What you see is what you get.” As if to verify that, her death sparked an outpouring of loving praise and memories from her co-stars and colleagues, and their comments are collected here:

There’s also sad news for country music fans: Earl Thomas Conley died April 10th at 77 after a long struggle with cerebral atrophy, a dementia-like condition.  Superstar Blake Shelton announced his death, calling Conley “my all-time favorite singer, hero and my friend.”  When Shelton won the CMA Male Vocalist of the Year award, he dedicated it to Conley, who had never won.

Conley’s life really reflected the lyrics of a country song, with years of struggles before and after reaching success, and a “never give up” attitude.  He served in the Army, then moved to Nashville, playing clubs at night while working blue collar day jobs.  Ironically, it was only after he moved to Alabama to work in a steel mill that he was signed to a small label and finally released a record.  Moving back to Nashville, he signed to Warners, but still struggled for several more years as he wrote songs for others, such as Conway Twitty’s #1 hit, “This Time I’ve Hurt Her More Than She Loves Me.”  At long last, he was signed by RCA and scored his first #1 record, “Fire & Smoke,” which led to a long series of hits throughout the ‘80s.

Between 1983 and 1989, all of Conley’s singles hit #1 except “Too Many Times,” a duet with Anita Pointer, which peaked at #2.  The consolation was that he became the rare country singer ever to perform on “Soul Train.”

When the hits dried up in the early ‘90s, the label he’d helped enrich in more ways than one dropped him.  But he continued touring and playing for his many loyal fans, some of whom were big stars who kept his name alive however they could, such as Blake Shelton (who recorded Conley’s song “All Over Me” in 2002) and Toby Keith, who called Conley “an all-time great” and “a huge influence on me.”

For nostalgic fans or for those who might like to discover an artist who deserves to be better remembered, here is a collection of some of his ‘80s hits.

If I remember correctly, prior to campaigns beginning, the Party of the Democrat (not the Democratic Party) were concerned that no one would run against Hillary and they did not want the election seem like a coronation.
President Trump has mostly destroyed the slow takeover of the U.S. to socialism! That is why he is so hated.

Please keep providing your newsletter. I recommend it to friends both Dem and Rep. Most people have no clue that Barry Obama and his backers did take over our Country, by placing people in critical positions, they controlled the agenda. Members of Congress, judges, supreme court justices, AG, FBI Director, IRS, and they had 8 years to do it and the Media was in on the takeover. Please thank your daughter Sara for the outstanding job she is doing at the White House. They say the apple does not fall far from the tree, so you did her a favor for the fine way you raised her. WE must win this war to keep our Country from Communism.

Governor ,I'm from the Foothills of the Ozarks in White Country,I'm 76 and lived through the years of the Faubus machine.I thought things were crazy then but I realize now those days were uneventful compared to now, even Central High.
I wonder ,if you ever wonder , that the tree of liberty will have to be refreshed in our life time?
    Just wondering!

Now that Mr. Barr has a big "bulls-eye" on his back...He needs to be very careful of all those "standing behind him." Ummm Mike or whomever, who or what is "paying" for all these disruptive continued attacks and total purposely designed disruptions and distractions to the President effectiveness. Please don't say our taxes!!! I hope that no-one is disregarding the deliberate and well laid out plans of attacks against the WH members. I grant you no one is "squeaky clean" and personally if the "under-handed politics" is for the "TRUE BETTERMENT" of WE the People then I am all for it...BUT that style of "playing dirty with integrity and care of the nation" has gone in the toilet where most of these "spoiled rotten little kids" wash their hands before eating their prey, and brushing their teeth before smiling really big for the press cameras.

I heard a comment today that I must repeat. Trump has broke their brains. No truer words were ever spoken. And I love it! My hubby will continue wearing his MAGA hat when we go out. So far, he has had lots of thumbs up and you betchas. In case any one doesn't know, that is Indiana speak, where I grew up. Mostly all Hispanics like his hat. Won't that surprise those in Washington? Thanks for your great articles. I always get at least one laugh. And thank you for your lovely daughter Sarah. Saw her on Tucker tonight. She was beautiful as usual.

A very small battle has been won 'In spite of a media', that's digging their own graves because it would take REAL Work to be a Journalist and getting the 'conclusion' or 'consensus' from the Cocktail hour at the local watering hole (aka the DCCC). The blowback from the media after Mueller Report finally admitted after 20-30 Million $$ that nothing rose to the level of prosecuting 'INTENT'? and that depends of your Comprehension of the English language. Your site is a leader in talking to the TRUTH and for that I Thank you. I have a sincere question that I have wrestled with for years. Do you ever get the feeling your playing with the infants in Nursery/ pre-School? I just read an article in a local newspaper by a Capitalist that publishes a very Slick magazine that is now 95% Ad's and 5% news but avoids ALL political commentary. His POV was how States that did not accept the ACA expansion of Medi-CADE resulted in the loss of millions of $$$ to help the poor of this state have access to QUALITY health CARE. How can an Intelligent individual not know the difference between Health CARE and Health Insurance payments? Last time I checked NO Doctor or Hospital is ALLOWED to Refuse CARE to anyone who crosses their threshold and when the small hospital/Dr's Office is Required to receive what the Government deems as Fair compensation and your patient base exceeds 75% of your patients only two results are apparent. You make a decision to hire some really slick accountants to figure out how to BEAT the System or you close your doors. In either case the Patient is NOT the Winner. The Progressives who have now openly admitted to being Socialist have WON Academia and the MEDIA and now it seems the Republic is just collateral Damage being played out in REAL TIME.

Thank you, once again, for a fresh outlook on gruesome Dems who still can't 'get over it'! All the money spent on this could have been used to build the rest of the wall and prevented so many illegals getting into the country and perpetuating their criminal acts wherever they could. Send them all to the Sanctuary States and cities and cut off all government aid! I'm sure Pelosi, Clinton, and Obama would just love to house all these people and feed them, pay for their healthcare, etc. After all, they asked for it - as the saying goes "be careful of what you ask for"!
    God bless you sir!

Mike When I saw Nadler My first thought what's George from the Seinfeld show doing, masquerading as a Senator then like a anvil hitting me this imbecile is really a Senator,I guess it makes sense the people that elected him also cheered the killing of babies as they came out of the mothers. These depraved and cruel people should just find a different place and time to occupy this earth like when the Romans fed humans to the lions or back to the stone age. evolution has not touched these people they are vile crude and lets face it, they are not Americas people we would brag about these people are fit for Iran or North Korea let them behave there as they do here maybe they would figure out death by abortion is not cheered in any country Nadlers people would find life a lot shorter in those countries because they are more advanced than Nadlers people; think about it low life New Yorkers Nadler's New Yorkers what a bad joke you are. I am being civil although you don't deserve it. Just Discussing!!!!!! Disgraceful are you getting the picture Yet?

To Mike Huckabee: I am one of those uneducated deplorables that Hillary Clinton mentioned in one of her speeches. I have a few words to describe her and all the other Democratic elites, They are execrable, miserable, woeful, wretched, inferior, condemable, criminal, reprehensible, vicious, wrong. I will let them figure out what one word is a synonym for all of these words i don't think they can figure it out. (here is a hint: It's a word within this comment). Thank for letting me get this off my chest.

Gov sorry that you are being picked on as a bigot and how they are picking out those who they want to try to take down little by little? Need to get this out here to the public on what is being said and done to you. I saw this past week the attack of the now running mayor Pete hard to say his name and he went after VP Pence on his not liking gay marriage. Sorry but why are we not allowed to believe as we choose also and if this is how then just live your life your way and let us go on our way of living? Our sex lives were for years not a big deal for majority of us and now it is being used to make it like those who will never believe this way as wrong and we are nothing but hateful bigots. Oh no enough. I do not like to hear heterosexual life styles of friends that is their lives not maybe what I want either. What we do in our own bedrooms and not what you may choose or want but not talked about in most of the crowd I go with. So Gov you stay strong and you live as you choose and what you had there in Nashville I am sorry but you have outside groups moving in to the music and other industry like we had here in Atlanta who try to tell us what to do now and say they may leave do not let the door hit your butt. Go away. We survived here before they came and so many other businesses are coming here now not for this industry. Time to stand strong Gov and say our beliefs like on abortion now out here and killing of a total human being. Oh no! So thank you for all you say and do. Take care.

Thank you Mr. Huckabee for all your insight and humor. We need more men like you. My question has to do with Sarah. I've seen articles claiming that she purposely and unfoundedly lied at the podium and that the Mueller report says she admitted she did. I find it difficult to believe that she would intentionally lie and that there must be another side to the story. Ben Shapiro even retweeted the headline and screen shot of the Mueller report. Could you please tell us her story.

There was a headline in an email that said, no collusion, but 10 instances of possible obstruction. I didn't read the article to see WHO perhaps obstructed in what way--I figure I'll wait til tomorrow for your assessment of the report.

It is so funny to see people melt down into nothing when they are criticized by some of the very msm that spends its time tearing into President Trump or anyone in his administration, often with fake/downright false news. Oh, heavens!!! Liberal media just shouldn't break the hearts and spirits of those whom they report on favorably. Why omar just might NEVER recover after being called out for her absolutely stupid statement. Oh, and I haven't read conservatives calling for her head on a platter for making the remark, so am not sure where she comes up with all the threats. Wonder if her friend ocasio will be called out for defending her.
