Today's Commentary --- Reader response: helping us make sense of the Arizona Senate race -- "Huckabee" preview -- Georgia Democrat ends campaign -- A ridiculous comparison -- The Baltic Experience 2019 -- RIP Roy Clark -- "Full review" -- Evening Edition - Daily Verse

In response to my commentary about possible reasons for the unexpected outcome in the Arizona Senate race, I got a helpful reader reply from someone who lives in Arizona.  So let’s see if we can gain some insight from her.  Even though most of us live in other states, these “case studies” can be instructive for winning races in our own states.

Mary tells us she is Hispanic, over 55, a Republican and Trump supporter, an Air Force veteran, and a small business owner, yet she actually came close to voting for Sinema, the Democrat.  How could this be?  Well, from her perspective, McSally really wasn’t very popular among Trump supporters, many of whom thought she was a RINO who was pretending to support Trump.

"Huckabee" preview

By Mike Huckabee

Tonight on TBN, it's a special Thanksgiving edition of “Huckabee,” and not just because we’re all so thankful the election is over – at least, in the states where it is over.  John McLemore of the Masterbilt smoker and cooker company will show us the right way to fry a turkey (and for fun and thrills, we’ll also take a look at some of the wrong ways.)  A man who knows how it feels to be thankful for every day of life, Rep. Steve Scalise, will join me.  Will Graham will tell us about his inspiring new book on faith and the life and legacy of his grandfather, the Rev. Billy Graham.  I’ll talk turkey with bestselling author and theologian Nancy Pearcey, and country music superstar Billy Dean, “The American Troubadour,” has a special song for the occasion.

Sprinkle with my commentaries on current events, some crazy news “In Case You Missed It,” tasty holiday treats and my guests’ personal Thanksgiving stories, and that’s a recipe for a terrific, all-new holiday “Huckabee!”  It’s tonight at 8 and 11 EST, 7 and 10 CST, and again at the same times on Sunday, only on TBN.  To find the TBN outlet in your area, and to stream past shows, visit https://www.tbn.org/programs/huckabee

Georgia Democrat ends campaign

By Mike Huckabee

Georgia Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams finally ended her campaign against Republican Brian Kemp, after more than a week of counting and recounting, and “finding” and scrounging for votes, and trying to force the state to count improperly-cast votes.  As of Friday morning, the unofficial totals showed Kemp with 50.2%, Abrams with 48.8% and Libertarian Ted Metz with 0.9%.  It was impossible for Abrams to surpass Kemp, but she had hoped that if they just kept counting, in that magical way that the Democrat always gains votes when they’re counted a second or third time, that Kemp would fall below 50%, necessitating a run-off.  Even that was mathematically out of reach.

And so, Abrams gave up an recognized Kemp as the victor, but stressed that she was still not “conceding.”  Instead, she railed that “In the coming days, we will be filing a major federal lawsuit against the state of Georgia for the gross mismanagement of this election and to protect future elections,” thus becoming the living embodiment of the old political axiom that “No Democrat ever lost a ‘fair’ election.”  She joins Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown (obviously an expert on how Georgians vote), who declared “If Stacey Abrams doesn’t win in Georgia, they stole it.”  Apparently, the Republicans stole it through the dirty, underhanded trick of getting an insurmountably larger number of legitimate votes.

For his part, Kemp (aka “the winner”) put aside political rancor, praised his opponent and encouraged Georgians to unite and work together for a brighter future.  Man, how far behind the times is he?

Amusing side note:  During the 2016 election, when Donald Trump suggested that she was trying to rig the election, Hillary Clinton lectured, “We are a country based on laws.  And we’ve had hot, contested elections going back to the very beginning, but one of our hallmarks has always been that we accept the outcomes of our elections.”  She said she was “appalled” that a major party candidate would question the results of a US election, calling that a “direct threat to our democracy.”

Since then, she’s spent two years questioning the legitimacy of President Trump’s election, and she said of Abrams, “If she had a fair election, she already would have won.”  Hillary said that Tuesday night at the University of Texas at Austin, where she was accepting an award, I assume for hypocrisy.

And this is the same party that’s wasted millions of tax dollars, and is chomping at the bit to waste millions more, investigating Russian attempts to undermine faith in the American electoral system.  With Democrats like this, the Russians don’t have to lift a finger.

A ridiculous comparison

By Mike Huckabee

After a lifetime of politics, I’m pretty much immune to politicians saying offensive, self-serving things to advance their agendas.  But even I was disgusted at California Sen. Kamala Harris’ attempt to compare the men and women of ICE to the KKK.  ICE agents risk their lives every day facing drug gangs, human traffickers and other illegal border crossers to keep Americans safe and enforce our immigration laws, which were passed and signed by members of both parties.  They also risk their lives rounding up violent criminals who were released from custody in irresponsible “sanctuary cities” or “sanctuary states,” like the one represented by Kamala Harris.

During a confirmation hearing before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Harris was questioning Trump's nominee to head ICE, Ronald Vitiello, about a 2015 tweet, for which he’s apologized, that likened Democratic tactics to the KKK.  Harris asked if he was aware there was a perception that there are parallels between ICE and the KKK.

You can read the full outrageous exchange at the link. My response would have been something like, “I’m aware that stupid people can harbor ridiculous false perceptions, and that some unscrupulous politicians promote such false perceptions for their own benefit.”

I’m also aware that ICE was created in 2002, under President George W. Bush.  Which means another big difference between ICE and the KKK is that ICE was founded by a Republican.

RIP Roy Clark

By Mike Huckabee

Our prayers and condolences to the family of Country Music Hall of Famer Roy Clark, who died at home in Tulsa on Thursday of complications from pneumonia.  He was 85.

Those who worked with Roy Clark remembered him fondly as a kind, generous, friendly and humble man, always smiling and appreciative of others’ talents.  That decency shone through to TV audiences, as well. Clark once said, "A TV camera goes right through your soul. If you're a bad person, people pick that up. I'm a firm believer in smiles. I used to believe that everything had to be a belly laugh. But I've come to realize that a real sincere smile is mighty powerful."

He may be best remembered as the longtime host of the cornpone comedy series, “Hee-Haw,” but fellow musicians were in awe of his talent on multiple instruments, particularly banjo and guitar.  He could play just about anything, as he proved on stages from Branson, Missouri, to the Grand Old Opry, to the Boston Pops, Carnegie Hall and the Rossiya Theatre in Moscow, where he was one of the first American entertainers to perform in the Soviet Union.

At this link is an obituary with lots of information about Roy Clark’s life and career:

And here’s something unusual.  It’s a video by a British guitarist who analyzes the styles of great players.  In this one, he shows a clip of Roy Clark playing flamenco guitar on an old episode of “The Odd Couple.”  You’ll think that guitar might burst into flames at any moment.  I’m linking directly to the beginning of that scene if you just want to see and hear Roy’s mind-boggling performance.  Or musicians might want to watch the whole thing, to get an appreciation for just how great his talent was and how much other musicians respected him.

"Full review"

By Mike Huckabee

New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio is promising angry commuters a “full review” to determine how a few inches of snow caused so much havoc in an area that should be well prepared to deal with it.  Here, I’ll save him a lot of time, effort and money.  Look very closely: the answer to why the city has become incompetent to deal with basic public services is contained in the first six words of this paragraph.

Here's a vintage circa 2016 quote from Stacey Abrams about not accepting election results:https://politics.myajc.com/blog/politics/trump-campaign-struggles-with-fallout-over-his-refusal-commit-election-results/0mknnjRiAAvlbY2KHpsCgL/

Loved Roy Clark and the fantastic Hee Haw a real family show where have these shows all gone today. Abrams was a very sore loser and to say that Kemp prevented voting was nasty. She had in big guns here with Oprah, Pres Obama and actor I cannot even recall his name, never see his movies. My thought was stay in Calif and take care of your voting there and the problems you have now per fires, homeless etc. Harris is very nasty politician saw her during the Kavanaugh and Ford debacle how terrible she can be. Super show you had on Gov. Thank you. We need this today. Wishing you and your family a very nice Thanksgiving. God Bless.
