The last word (I wish) on the NFL

September 27, 2017

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners when somebody disrespects our flag to say 'get that son of a ***** off the field right now; he’s fired'?"

So said President Trump during a Congressional campaign rally in Alabama. Sure, it was plenty unpresidential for him to use that term. Sure, it caused players to dig in and continue acting like idiots. But a new poll has shown that about two-thirds of Americans agree with him

And now that the backlash is growing in strength, the Dallas Cowboys have floated a new explanation for their curious behavior during Monday night’s game, when they all “took a knee” before the National Anthem but then stood and linked arms while the song was performed. They seemed to want to have it both ways –- to register their “protest” (against the police, I guess, on behalf of a city where five cops were mass-murdered last year?) while trying to safeguard ticket sales. But it turns out that they were doing something else entirely.

They were praying.

Yeah, I know. Nice try, Cowboys, but we don’t buy it. We know that “prayer” is just an exceedingly creative cover story, though you might want to start praying right now that your fans don’t desert you in droves. All you NFL players need to understand that you are being used by people trying to undermine, even destroy, the underpinnings of our nation. If they can make us stop valuing our uniquely American heritage, it’s just one step towards the ultimate goal of bringing America down. Think I’m exaggerating? This is happening all around us right now, to education, the Bill of Rights, the workplace, entertainment, journalism, our electoral system, historical monuments, race relations, religious faith (at least Christianity) and now, sports.

Also, if your gesture of “protest” is so vague that you have to explain over and over what it does and does not mean, then maybe you need to accept that you made a mistake in your choice of behavior. Find a more appropriate way to express your views, one that actually furthers the conversation you want to have and brings us closer to solutions. Then, while the National Anthem is playing, keep your knees off the ground and your hand over your heart, for crying out loud, in honor of the country that gives you such incredible freedom and opportunity. There, is that so hard?

I totally agree with you. I am not a huge football fan, so I will be boycotting any company who chooses to advertise during the NFL football games...If more people would do the same, the advertising dollars would go away and so would the gigantic paychecks these idiots receive.

I no longer watch pro football and pro baseball. And I certainly would not waste money on a ticket to either. Can you provide me a list of their sponsors so I know which stores/products I will no longer patronize? I encourage all American patriots to do the same. Hit them in the pocketbook.
