The sad truth about class and power in America

By Mike Huckabee

I’d like to draw your attention to an article from THE SPECTATOR, “Oligarchy in America: Crossing the Rubicon of Class” by Dominic Green, about the changing political landscape and the rise of the wealthy and powerful elite. I don’t agree with everything he says, but there’s some real food for thought here.

If you’ve read my book GOD, GUNS, GRITS, AND GRAVY, you know about the intense class divisions that have been building in America. With Trump, we had the rise of the populists from America’s heartland, and with Trump’s loss, we now have, as Green puts it, “the rise of the imperial oligarchy that offers to restore law and order, but installs a different law and a new order.”

I would add that there’s a huge irony in this, in that President Trump was exceptionally pro-law and order while the left was burning buildings. In a response to the uprising at the Capitol on January 6, which horrified Trump and all but a handful of crazies, that perception has been flipped on its head, and it’s now Democrats who are clamping down on opposition, going so far as to label the right “domestic terrorists.”

One paragraph is so stellar and summarizes current conditions so well, I’ll quote it in full: “Our political parties have fused with corporate and bureaucratic America into a donor-fed, greed-driven ‘uni-party.’ The manifest destiny of money and power has elicited mass revolts from the grassroots of both parties, but the DNC has defeated them all. First it defeated Bernie Sanders in 2016. Next it defeated the return of Sanders in 2020. Now it has defeated the revolt of the Republican grassroots by drawing away a small but crucial number of aspirational white suburbanites who voted for Trump in 2016. Were they repelled by four years of presidential tweeting, or intimidated by the demonization of Trump supporters as racists and losers? Aspirational suburbanites are the kind of people who used to be Republicans. They know how fast a fall from affluence can happen. They recognize where the social, financial and political power now lies.”

Much of this shift was set in motion during the Obama administration; Green cites “the fusion of the healthcare, pharmaceutical and insurance industries” and now “the Biden-Harris administration’s endorsement of one kind of Green New Deal or other.”

Today, he says, the oligarchs –- the vastly wealthy and powerful –- are the ultimate social elite. To gain admittance, one buys credentials from universities, overwhelmingly Democrat. Big Tech, the source of so much of the wealth, is overwhelmingly Democrat. (I would add another one: entertainment conglomerates, overwhelmingly Democrat.) “Social media,” Green says, “is so confident of its progressive principles that it can silence the President of the United States.”

On the surface, it seems as if we still have a country; the trappings are still there. “The American oligarchy is still American,” Green writes. Just as the Roman Senate still appeared to have the sovereign authority, so the Constitution still reigns supreme, except when it doesn’t. “Private property and market forces are still revered in theory,” he writes, “and individualism, in the form of private license, has never been more sovereign [unless you get on the wrong side of the rulers]. But democratic equality, the foundation of the American compact and the signature of American manners, has collapsed.”

The gap between the classes is more than economic, he says. It is “civilizational” –- a modern version of the gap between the medieval nobility and the peasants.

The way Green describes it, America now has three classes: the oligarchy, the middle, and the underclass. The oligarchy can also be divided into three groups:

First, there are the plutocrats, the infamous 0.1 percent, who pretty much live EXACTLY the way they want, morality and carbon footprints be damned. (Green says “we suspect they know the truth about Jeffrey Epstein.”) This is about 160,000 households that in 2016 possessed an estimated 22 percent of America’s wealth, which is pretty much what they held in 1929, so for the plutocrats, the Roaring ‘20s are back --- the 2020s. Most of the very wealthiest today did make their fortune in businesses they started themselves.

Then there are the aristocrats: the rest of the top 10 percent that own most of America’s wealth. These are the highly paid “experts”: programmers, scientists, researchers, lawyers, Wall Street investors, corporate management, politicians and consultants, medical specialists and Beverly Hills plastic surgeons. As Green describes them, “They despise half of their fellow Americans as dim bigots. They are, however, angst-stricken at the fate of the polar bears.” (Of course, I don’t want to paint with too broad a brush; there are exceptions to all this.)

Third are the meritocrats, the upper middle class. Many own businesses. These people are “living and dying by the sword of hard work and the market, and consequently fighting harder and harder against longer and longer odds.” Their kids are the ones getting worthless liberal arts degrees from leftist schools, carrying huge student debt and working as baristas. They “are demanding to be heard before they lose the rest of their class privileges.”

And what kind of privileges do the oligarchy use to maintain their status? Things like security gates, private schools, and the legacy system at elite universities. But the meritocrats, at the bottom of the elite class and struggling to stay there, don’t really have the same access. And they’re the ones who are told they’ve benefited so greatly from “white privilege.”

Interestingly, despite the huge obsession with diversity, “the ruling class is still dominated by white men,” Green observes. “Never before have Americans been so united by racial symbolism; never before have they been so divided by wealth; never before has education been so expensive and social mobility so slow.” The gap between the oligarchs and those they rule is huge; “they live in different worlds, and they live by different values.”

Green foresees a state under Biden in which the super-wealthy will continue to prosper and the middle class will shrink. (Note that big-time mega-rich investors are crying ‘foul’ now that the little guys beat them at their game of short-selling.) I always cringe when I hear leftists talk about what they’re going to do FOR the middle class, when it’s almost always what they do TO the middle class. They don’t like the middle class, who work hard and generally have enough independence and smarts –- without being indoctrinated at an Ivy League school –- to distrust those in power who want to “help” them.

Green predicts a backlash against diversity policies among those designated the losers. But he also sees this administration continuing to collude with Big Tech to “censor and demonize the opposition.” And he sees America on the road to decline.

It’s hard to argue with any of that. It’s what we’re going to see in the short term, because elections have consequences. But, looking long-term, it will all depend on how we strongly and strategically we fight back. (Hey, social media, I’m using the word “fight” figuratively.) There are 75 million of us. We’ve had the wind knocked out of us, but we can’t let that take us down.

Senator Lee Demands An Apology

By Pat Reeder

Utah Sen. Mike Lee has written a letter to his colleagues, asking them to call on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez to retract or apologize for falsely accusing Sen. Ted Cruz of “trying to get me killed” and “almost having me murdered,” and blaming him for the Capitol riot because he wanted an investigation of election irregularities. Lee calls this kind of rhetoric “unacceptable” and says that if AOC refuses to apologize or retract it, the House should vote to admonish or censure her.

I certainly agree, but good luck getting Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, Jerry Nadler, Rashia Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, et al, to go on record as condemning inflammatory, libelous rhetoric against Republicans. If they did, what would they have left to talk about?

Bang

By Mike Huckabee

Well, you can’t say that President Biden didn’t come into office with a bang: the American Petroleum Institute estimates that his executive orders targeting US oil and gas production will kill as many as one million jobs just in those industries alone over the next four years.

The good news is that all those brawny, unemployed oilfield workers can get training for new jobs by enrolling in college, claiming to identify as women and winning all the girls’ sports scholarships.

Missing Trump yet, blue collar Biden voters?

Must-See Video

By Mike Huckabee

Actually, it’s President Biden who should really see this. He claims that black lives matter, but here’s one black man who’s not feeling that message coming from his executive order pen.

"Better Choices"

By Mike Huckabee

Fox News calculated how many metric tons of carbon dioxide John Kerry’s private plane spewed into the environment last year. Before he lectures any more oil, gas and pipeline workers about making “better choices,” maybe he should try making some himself.

I fly a lot on commercial jets. I’ll keep my eyes peeled and let you know if I ever spot John Kerry in a seat near me.

Mike, Always look forward to your informative and humorous news letters. Do you know much about Mike Lindell’s investigative work regarding cyber attacks and fraud on the Nov 3rd election and why there is no news coverage? Thanks and God Bless your work.

Now that we all know that Trump's comments did not incite the events of Jan 6th, shouldn't the impeachment be rescinded and Nancy be impeached and jailed for the hoax she perpetrated? This farce cost money, precious time and smeared the man 75 million people voted for. At a minimum, she should be sued and convicted of libel. She also violated her fiduciary duty to insure that taxpayer money not be spent wastefully. All congress people who voted for this should be held accountable as well as it is obvious they did zero investigation and might as well have participated in a lynch mob.

I think John Kerry should be in prison, but I actually don't mind that he has a private jet spewing carbon dioxide into the air.
Carbon dioxide is necessary for the growth of all plant life. Human production of it doesn't cause global warming or climate change. If crazy environmentalists manage to decrease the production of it too much, the whole world will die.
I doubt that that's what they really want, so they must just be extremely stupid.

Perhaps the oil field workers can get grounds keeper jobs at any of the Biden or Kerry (excuse I should say Heinz) estates.

As Biden celebrates the loss of jobs in so many industries he has surrounded himself with people that embraces China Iran Syria and people that are anti american. Schumer and Pelosi will ruin America not in a Generation of time but in a manner of years. People are trading places of working hard and building America to relying on government handouts while watching the building of America stop and corrode, the Communists plan is taking effect America is falling day by day from Washington DC to NYC LA Atlanta Minneapolis where Governors are an arm of DC watch who the states are vaccinating young people that are of a communist mind set; the elderly know whats happening and when we are gone the soon the better by Schumer's standard the resistance will become easier, American value must be canceled. Who will the world look to when America is gone the globe will enjoy China's way of thinking or concentrate on concentrations camps look at the Germans when it didn't agree with a different point of view. The media tried to cancel that event also.

Thanks for writing everyday. It is very much appreciated, both for what is happening in our country right nYow and explanations of what and why it is happening. I am not a Blue voter, but yes, I sorely miss President Trump. I did vote for him and I also think the election was stolen,, but I am willing to wait until the Good Lord finds a way to confirm or deny my thinking.

    Dear Gov Huckabee,
Please ask your folks to look into this and bring it to the public's attention. The Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards doctrine comes up for vote in the Illinois legislature on Feb 16th. After reading the document at https://www.isbe.net I am terrified for the children, parents and Christians of Ilinois. I've heard the plan is to make this doctrine part of Common Core and take it Nationwide. Please help.

I agree with Mr. Green! Me and my husband are staunch Republicans, Trump lovers, but our two sons aren't. They have been brainwashed by Dem professors in their schools and colleges [including Harding University] and I feel sorry for them and for you, having to live in this "Biden-Democrats Rule era!" My husband is 80 and I will be in a month, so we won't live too much longer. We are Christians so have a much better future than the rest of you. I appreciate your fighting for Truth, Justice and the American way, but I'm afraid it is hopeless!

"....the rise of the imperial oligarchy...." LOL! Mr. Green is far late to the party. For decades I have often observed that America has not been a 'Republic' for decades and a steady erosion since the Civil War. Green may be partially correct in saying "the rise" as they are more readily transparent these days than being cloaked before. America has been either an Oligarchy or a Plutocracy, at least since the advent of 'theft by taxation.' Taxation was implemented during the Civil War and made law in 1913! From what was once a 'part-time job,' our Federal government has ballooned into a bloated overfed sow that employs more people than all corporate America. The people we elect to protect and serve, "We The Serfs," do little except enriching themselves while raping and pillaging the very people that employ them!

As you say, Mike, "we can't give up!" As ole Ben replied to the woman asking him about the results of that convention, "A Republic If You Can Keep It!" In my not so humble opinion, "We The People" have not been able to "keep it." The guilty, or enemy of America, is those people seen in every mirror every day! The time frame for how soon America is thrown onto that 'Ash Heap of History' is dependent on the answer to the question, "How Do We Change How The Enemy Behaves?" We The People might consider what Billy Graham had to say, "Only God Can Change The Hearts of Man!"

    Hello Mike,
I recently penned a letter to President Biden stating I did not like or respect him, his administration or polices, that he is compromised and his call for unity is further dividing America. I also said I pray that God will reveal all so that he and the evil forces behind this coup d'tat and fraudulent election therefore establishing an illegitimate government should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
With cancel culture, republican bashing and Trump haters being targeted or judged by the color of their politics, I may have stirred up a hornets nest that will sting back. I have been a patriot all my life but now am an enemy of the liberal left that thinks with emotions instead of intellect and retaliates when you hurt their fragile feelings,
A return letter from the White House read, "how they take careful note of questions, thoughts and stories received while working hard to ensure I will receive an appropriate response". That is a very broad statement and with my vivid imagination I can think of many different types of responses and scenarios, some good, others not so much.
Do you think I should be looking over my shoulder, feel like there is a target on my back or expect to be placed on the "deplorable" list and subject to the penalties for being a life time member in good standing or just fantasy?
    Thank you very much,
    Timmy L Shaffer

Please stop referring to the Conservatives as 75 million. There are many, many more. That number is just the number of voters counted. There were lots more that wete not counted and even more that didnt vote for any number of reasons. I would venture a guess at one half of the adult population.

One question. Do the governors of the states where the pipeline was set to go through not have the power to keep the pipeline going? Does the president and a few heathen democrates have the power to "dictate" what states can do. I have heard Trump referred to as "Hitler". He is a saint compared to what is sitting in the oval office. My husband is a diabetic and takes insulin everyday, Trump was working to get insulin prices down and epi pen prices down. Biden put a pause on that whatever that means. That tells me all I need to know about whether they care for the people of this country or not. At least one judge had the good sense to halt a caravan of illegal immigrants entering this country.

I don’t think you get it. Folks like great athletes, congressional Democrat leaders, rich entertainers, computer geniuses, the wealthy John Kerry’s of the world are special. They see themselves has having been blessed with great insight, intelligence and moral rectitude that sets them aside for having privileges normal people may not have. They are the deserving. Much the same as the feudal lords of old. They must have these conveniences because they are so busy directing how others must live. If they want to indulge in
In some unsavory or immoral behavior, that is their privilege. In some cases even their churches overlook some of their beliefs, such as wholesale abortion. After all their hearts are in the right place. The fact that they live extremely comfortable lives is no matter. They are special in the eyes of God or whatever idols they worship.

I love how these leftist politicians like to make laws they say are for the betterment of our lives, but they live by totally different rules. How do you stand at a public podium talking about environmental issues when you are one of the worst contributors to pollution! I can only speculate there are real DNA anomalies that affect John Kerry & his like. It’s like talking to a serial killer who believes he’s actually helping with overpopulation by killing. Makes no sense!
