Fact-checking on Facebook

Have you noticed that any time you try to write anything about current hot button topics like mask mandates on a social media page like Facebook, the site will butt in to add its own “Factcheck” and accuse you of not knowing what you’re talking about? Go too far in expressing an opinion, and they might ban you completely for “spreading misinformation.”

But the question is getting asked more and more frequently: “Who are these omnipotent Facebook ‘fact-checkers,’ and who determined that their interpretation of a complicated issue is the absolute last word in objective truth?” After all, these are the same unimpeachable “fact-checkers” who slapped an “Inaccurate” label on President Trump’s prediction of a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of year, writing, “Widespread Covid-19 vaccination is not expected before mid-2021.” In FACT, Trump was right; they were wrong. But that hasn’t stopped them from continuing to play God and censor/natter/hector every post on Facebook, particularly any that vary even a hair from “progressive” leftist orthodoxy.

At that link is a fascinating article about the experiences City Journal had after one of their articles was labeled inaccurate by the Facebook “fact-checkers” when it wasn’t. They tried to appeal, and this story details what they learned about who these self-appointed guardians of truth are, how they operate, and the questionable, politically-biased “sources” they rely on when assessing what is and isn’t objectively true. This is why the Wall Street Journal labeled this as “counter-opinion masquerading as fact-checking.” It’s a blatant violation of Facebook’s legal obligation to act as a neutral platform, not a publisher, in order to maintain its federal protection from lawsuits.

Also, you’ll be interested to hear who makes the decision about whether they’re wrong when an appeal is launched. That’s right: it’s the “fact-checkers” themselves!

You’d have better luck getting your mother-in-law to admit she was wrong and you were right than getting them to admit the same thing.

Media stuck in the past

I can’t think of anything more illustrative of today’s media than NBC’s Chuck Todd accusing Republicans of not being able to get past the 2020 election, and then when Rep. Dan Crenshaw tries to talk about the future, Todd continually drags the subject back to the 2020 election.

Impossible to compete with this real news

Sometimes, I can’t help feeling sorry for the poor writers at the Babylon Bee and other satirical sites. These days, it’s impossible to think up fake news items that are more laughably absurd than the real news items. And here’s the perfect example: crocheters are making prosthetic male genitals to tuck into the diapers and pull-ups of little girls whose parents claim they “identify” as boys.

These are girls so young that they don’t even know what transgenderism is, or even what genitals are. The only possible use for such a disgusting and ridiculous product (other than putting satire writers out of work) is identifying psychotic and abusive parents by checking to see who actually ordered it.

Most Disappointing News of the Day

Don Lemon’s hints that his conservative-bashing CNN show was coming to an end were just a cheap publicity stunt. All they’re doing is retooling and renaming it to “CNN Tonight With Don Lemon,” an obvious rip-off of the more highly-rated “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Fox News. It really should be illegal to get people’s hopes up that high when you don’t really mean it.

“War Is Peace/Freedom Is Slavery/Etc.” News Round-up

Twitter suspended a Spanish politician for 12 hours for alleged “hate speech” because he reacted to an article about a “transgender male” who gave birth by tweeting that “a man cannot get pregnant” because he “has no uterus or eggs.”

He responded to Twitter’s brainwashing/censoring by refusing to knuckle under, telling LifeSiteNews, “We will not yield to Twitter imposing a twisted (and anthropologically wrong) worldview. We will continue to speak the truth about human nature. Biological truth should not be regarded as ‘hate speech.’ It’s biology, not bigotry.”

FYI: As previously reported, the Christian news outlet LifeSiteNews.com was permanently banned from Facebook for allegedly questioning the safety of COVID-19 vaccines by directly quoting the government’s own Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System.

In other “criminalizing the truth” news, American Airlines is reportedly investigating one of its pilots because the woke mob attacked him for criticizing Critical Race Theory being forced onto his kids’ school. Something to think about the next time you're booking air travel.

A Reader Writes Back... 

As long as Israel exists, the Palestinian Authority has stated that it has no interest in becoming a state itself. The fake news propaganda media reports a lot of women and children dying in Gaza, but hardly mentions any of the Jewish people being killed. The Media forgets to also mention that it was Hamas that started this new round of attacks. I wonder if the Palestinian people are happy with their Hamas controlled govt?
