As every parent knows, the cry of a child evokes a Pavlovian response that will grab your heartstrings and make you drop whatever you’re doing and run to pay attention.  That's why the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) are literally using recordings of crying children to get us to turn our attention away from other issues and run to look at the situation on the border in which children are separated from their parents when those parents choose to attempt to enter the US illegally with their children and then refuse to go with their families back where they came from (notice how much responsibility for creating this situation the parents have, a fact that is never mentioned in the “Trump is cruelly ripping babies from mothers’ arms” narrative.)

At this link, some photos from conservative commentator/editor Ben Shapiro, showing that Trump is enforcing a law that has been on the books for years, and that the facilities for children are the exact same ones they were put in under Obama, which Rachel Maddow and her media colleagues never shed any tears about.

This overheated hyperbole has served its function, diverting attention away from the devastating revelations of Tuesday’s House IG hearing that showed what an utterly corrupt, politicized scam the FBI “investigations” of Trump and Hillary were.  It’s also helped inflame passions and cause even more divisiveness and disrespect, with reports of DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen being forced to leave a restaurant due to heckling and threats by activists from the Democratic Socialists of America...

...And a Capitol Hill intern yelling a Robert DeNiro-style obscenity at President Trump when he visited Congress to discuss the situation.  Even worse, actual elected members of the Hispanic Democratic Caucus heckled Trump, screaming at him in the hallway (remember when one Republican shouted “You lie” at Obama, and the Democrats hit the ceiling over that horrifying lack of respect for the Commander-in-Chief?)

Yet, as Shapiro notes, all of this could be fixed instantly, simply by Congress changing the law.  The Trump Administration has been asking Congress to pass an immigration reform bill for over a year, and offering to sign anything that fixes DACA and the family separation issue, as long as it also includes stricter border security measures and funding for a wall to prevent the leniency from encouraging future abuses.  So far, the Democrats who curse Trump for not doing their job for them and cry about the children even louder than the children cry on their videotapes have blocked every legislative effort.

As of this writing, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is reportedly still blocking any reform bill.  He wants Trump to hearken back to the Obama era, ignore the Constitution and change the law with an executive order.  He claims this will be faster, although anything would be faster than waiting for the Democrats to stop obstructing everything, even things they supposedly support.  It would also have the benefit of giving the Democrats what they want without them giving Trump anything he wants.  And for the cherry on top, it would mean Trump would give them what they want without them having to do their job.

Something to remember when they ask you to vote them back in charge of Congress in November: they’re not only terrible at crafting laws and policies, they obviously also really hate having to do it.

Thank you for breaking this down so clearly and concisely. I posted on my Facebook page and got attacked by my 21 year old niece, now I am the heartless aunt and she the virtuous one. Dangerous to share in my family

The Border mess will only be solved when the President closes the border to all except returning US citizens & commerce. This’s short term band aide until the congress can get their act together. They must do away with the filibuster rule & debate each issue separately. Come up with a budget! No more omnibus bills! Congress is like a machine that’s not broken but they fix it until is runs terrible. Sincerely Jim C, average American Truck Driver

why can't we just shut down all entries from southern boarder under the pretense of being overloaded with too many entries and too much distress on the American citizens. the democrats are really losing their minds! or can we do something to Mexico (boycott their products or such) to get them to stop these people before coming here in the first place

Most of the people screaming at POTUS about the children at the border could care less about these children. This problem could have been fixed a long time ago if the folks in D. C. really cared. Infuriating!

The Democrats have proven over and over again they are not interested in fixing the immigration problem. In fact all they want is to resist any thing and everything the President tries to do. Unfortunately, there are some so called Republicans who are not any better. The media helps and supports the Democrats. I believe this world has gone crazy. What use to right is wrong. What use to be up is now down. God help us.

    Dear Mr. Huckabee,
I was born in Hope, Arkansas, and am the granddaughter of Loretta and Burgess Garrett. I remember hearing you preach once, either in Prescott (where I grew up) or in Hope. I live in Charleston, SC now and teach English at a Christian college. I am writing to express my disappointment in your support of President Trump. I have looked up to you for many years as someone who would stand up for truth and justice. I honestly couldn't believe that you made that decision. I guess I just don't understand American Christianity, one that leaves out compassion and basic decency, nor do I want to.

ok, what about the moms and dads in Oklahoma prisons separated. kids sent to homes they have never been to. Oklahoma parents need to be released to be with their children. why should illegal parents get special treatment?

Don't all these kids have dual citizenship through one or both of their parents? Take the family to the appropriate embassy, get their passports, send them back and let them reapply legally to enter the country. It was good enough for my grandparents to come in through Ellis island and have their last names Americanized; they were all English-speaking citizens within ten years of landing. Crawling in under a fence or being trucked in someone's trunk is flat out illegal and they should be sent back.

If their countries are so bad, why don't they have a revolution just like we did. We didn't get anything handed to us except a uniform and gun to fight.

Sir, can you shed some light on why nothing and I mean nothing is being done about the FBI, DOJ, Lynch and others. Trey Gowdy and the others seem well meaning but just like everything else. Nothing is done it's just talk.

Schumer's idea is a trap … stay with me now! … Say that President Trump writes an Executive Order complete with all the necessary changes to fix the system, just as Schumer asked. The Order would be written to resolve the status of the children in a humane and loving way by keeping the children with their hosting crossers (assuming parents): (1) start turning back newly crossing illegals as of the Order Date (their children with them) PERIOD - END OF STORY; (2) match currently detained illegals with their sheltered children and turn them back together now PERIOD - END OF STORY; (3) fully end Chain Migration going forward - deport illegals caught in the future (their children with them); (4) fully fund the virtual and physical wall with sufficient security; and (5) require e-Verify for all U.S. employers to reduce illegal crossing incentives. These points are all points that the left do NOT WANT, so they will SUE! So how can the President write an effective Order? He can't; he's left to wait for a full deal from Congress … but we find them all AT AN IMPASSE with activist liberals continually making a spectacle of Trump's progress without any contribution toward solutions. We know what Schumer is up to; the left is pulling out all stops to get President Trump to fail at whatever he does.

The evil, heinous, un-American and most definitely un-Christian tactic of separating some 2000 children from their parents could also be changed -- and in an instant -- by an executive order signed by the current POTUS who has demonstrated copiously that he loves signing executive orders. But no, like a broken record Trump just keeps on mouthing how bad it is and that the Democrats are to blame, and then going on to say that he is "powerless" to do anything about this. His "powerlessness" certainly wasn't in play while he was singing all those executive orders that overturned Democratic-origin laws and policies. Mike, I'm very disappointed that you, an ordained clergyman, are not standing alongside the many Christian leaders who know the Word of God and how Jesus has a special place in his heart for children, and are crying out God's denunciation of this crime against humanity!
