THE SEPTEMBER JOBS REPORT
The Labor Department reports that 661,000 new jobs were created in September. That’s lower than the 800,000 expected, but it was good enough to drop the unemployment rate from 8.4% to 7.9%. Black unemployment dropped from 13 to 12.1%, and Asian-American unemployment fell from 10.7 to 8.9%. The biggest drag on Americans getting back to work was the government, thanks to schools remaining closed. Also, of course, thanks to some state governments that are keeping businesses closed indefinitely (remember the good ol’ days of “Two weeks to flatten the curve?” How did that turn into “Hide in your basement from here to eternity”?)
Those draconian policies are what’s responsible for the increase of 345,000 in permanent job losses, due to employers being forced to give up and go into bankruptcy because of the endless shutdowns.
But as Rick Moran notes at the link, overall, it’s a positive jobs report, and it’s the last one that will be released before the election. He also notes that Joe Biden has stopped promoting his “Build Back Better” slogan, likely because it’s becoming obvious that we don’t need massive government intervention to rebuild the entire economy. We just need to get Democrats out of the way so people can get back to work. Say, that would be a great slogan, but probably not one that Joe would want to use.
Congratulations to the people of Michigan, whose Supreme Court has just ruled that the law cited by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to justify her grabbing the power to impose her arbitrary, draconian and endless shutdown edicts is unconstitutional. Since this is the state constitution, there’s no appealing to a higher federal court.
This is the point at which the Governor should throw in the towel and meet with the GOP legislature to craft a reasonable compromise policy for dealing with the pandemic that doesn’t require destroying people’s livelihoods and stomping on their Constitutional rights. But maybe you didn’t notice in the first paragraph that I said this is Gretchen Whitmer. So her immediate response was to shrug off the Court ruling and insist that she would keep on imposing her rules anyway by citing some other laws that allegedly give her the power to act as the executive and legislative (and apparently now, judicial) branch all in one.
And Democrats foolishly conjecture about Trump refusing to give up power? Trying to force one of them to give up the power they seized during this pandemic is going to be like trying to wrestle a banana away from King Kong.
ABUSING PANDEMIC RULES
On the subject of power-mad Democrat Governors abusing pandemic rules, California is now imposing a “racial equity” grid on counties, barring them from reopening their economies if the rate of infection in their “disadvantaged communities” of blacks, Latinos and Pacific-Islanders lags significantly behind the overall infection rate. At the link, Tyler O’Neil examines what a lot of “critical race theory” garbage has to do with whether it’s safe to let stores open or not. This seems to be no more relevant to the spread of disease than New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s famous shutdown of bars if they don’t serve food more substantial than snacks.
I wonder if the Democrats destroying California would please explain how the coronavirus can be so racist and also so liberal that it agrees not to spread at Black Lives Matter protests.
"WHAT ARE THE PROUD BOYS?"
It seems as if the biggest result of Chris Wallace demanding that President Trump denounce “white supremacist” groups and using the Proud Boys as an example was not the phony “Trump supports white supremacists!” narrative the Democrats are pushing, but Americans collectively asking, “What are the ‘Proud Boys’? Are those the guys who hang out with Peter Pan? No, wait, that’s the Lost Boys…”
So once again, by bringing it up, Wallace just brought the group the media spotlight and millions of dollars in free publicity. And the public became even more confused when the national spokesperson for the Proud Boys not only showed up on TV to denounce white supremacy, but he also happened to be black (it was turning into a Dave Chappelle sketch at that point.) Now, it just got even more confusing for those who were led to believe the Proud Boys were like a junior league KKK:
The Salt Lake City chapter of the Proud boys denounced white supremacy during a joint press conference with the northern Utah chapter of Black Lives Matter.
The Proud Boys leader said, “We are in no way, shape or form white supremacists,” they just believe that Western civilization is best. And the local BLM leader said they’re partnering with the Proud Boys on police reform and the people “need to be able to reach across the aisle and have these tough conversations.”
I know it would be the perfect “Mel Brooks” style capper to this story, but no, the leader of the Utah branch of Black Lives Matter isn’t white.
ANTIFA IS A MOVEMENT
Speaking of the Dems who cried “White supremacist,” a reporter decided to go undercover to expose the alleged "rightwing extremists" who, according to Democrats, are really behind the racially-charged riots and looting in blue cities. He dressed up in black and worked his way into a violent group in Santa Monica. Unlike the rest of us, he was surprised to discover that they weren’t rightwingers, they were “insurrectionary anarchists” (who could’ve seen that coming?)
So he joined in with the rioters in other cities across the nation and found the same thing. They were leftwing anarchists who were part of the Antifa movement (not an “idea,” Joe, but a “movement.”) They don’t “spontaneously” riot over random incidents of police brutality. They recruit members online and meticulously organize their gatherings and protests using social media. You know, like a terrorist organization. Now let’s see, who called them that? Oh, right: President Trump.
Astoundingly, even after seeing what they are with his own eyes, and learning that the narrative he’d been fed was completely false, what was the reporters’ biggest concern about these well-organized, violent anarchists? That their tactics could help get Trump reelected.
And that’s what we mean in the South when we say, “You can’t fix stupid.”
THEY WILL TRY ANYTHING
The “Throw Anything And See If It Sticks” Tactic: Democrats desperate to derail Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s SCOTUS nomination and having no scandals – and no hope of getting anyone to believe ridiculous ones they make up, a la the Brett Kavanagh hearings – think they’ve found the smoking gun.
Fourteen years ago, Judge Barrett and her husband signed their names along with other prominent local people to a pro-life newspaper ad in South Bend, Indiana, that read, “It’s time to put an end to the barbaric legacy of Roe v Wade and restore law that protects the lives of unborn children."
Democrats are howling that this disqualifies her from the Court because she didn’t mention it in the forms she filled out for the Senate Judiciary Committee, which require her to disclose any “published material you have written or edited” on relevant cases. The White House calls it irrelevant because Barrett didn’t write or edit the ad, she just let them put her name on it.
Still, I have to congratulate the Democrats for actually digging up a yellowed 14-year-old ad from a South Bend, Indiana, newspaper to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, with geometric logic, that the Catholic judge with seven children is opposed to abortion. Give your bloodhounds a Scooby Snack; they’ve earned it!
Next, try to figure out my position on Roe v. Wade…
