By Mike Huckabee

Monday, the Supreme Court rejected House Democrats’ plea to allow them immediate access to President Trump’s tax and business records. The SCOTUS had ruled that Trump did not have an absolute right to refuse to comply with legitimate congressional subpoenas for documents, but they sent the case back to lower courts for more consideration because they also ruled that Congress doesn’t have unlimited authority to get materials from a President and its subpoenas must have a legitimate legislative purpose.

The Democrats claimed their investigations are so “urgent” that they have to get access to Trump’s personal and business tax records right now so that they can go fishing for something that will hurt him politically and leak it before the election. Okay, they didn’t really say that last part, but I think we can all agree that it’s understood.

Since long before Trump entered politics, I’ve argued that no political figure should be forced to release his or her personal income tax forms. Just because you run for office, that doesn’t mean you should have to give up every vestige of your family’s privacy. Besides, all candidates are required to file a public financial disclosure form that tells you much more of relevance to the job than you’ll find in someone’s income taxes.

The Democrats would have us believe that Trump is trying to hide some nefarious chicanery that would be exposed by having us see his tax forms. Think about that for a moment. If you had evidence that you committed some sort of financial crime, would you write it down on a tax form and send it to the IRS? If there were anything like that, don’t you think the IRS would have come after him before now? Maybe because most of today’s Democrats have never actually run a business, they seem to have an image of Trump, in his shirt-sleeves with tie undone, sweating over his tax forms at 11 p.m. on April 15th.

Trump is the CEO of a multi-national, multi-billion-dollar corporation with hundreds of different entities. He doesn’t make out his own tax form. He has battalions of lawyers and accountants to deal with it. It’s probably longer than the Federal Register and the closest he ever gets to it is putting his signature on it with a Robo-pen. The idea of Adam Schiff being able to comprehend Trump’s taxes is like expecting your dog to be able to read “War and Peace.”

No, the only “urgency” involved is their urgent need to try to find something, anything, that they can pull out of context and try to make Trump look bad. One chief contender is their hope that if they show his income to be lower than expected, they can embarrass him by saying he’s not really that successful. So what? Don’t we all try to make our incomes look as low as possible on our taxes? With write-offs, loopholes, and depreciation, a one-year income tax snapshot means nothing compared to overall wealth. These people write these ridiculous tax laws; do they not even know how they work? Even Silicon Valley socialist billionaires who think the rich aren't taxed enough hire lawyers and accountants and lobbyists to get their taxes as low as possible. None of them ever send along an extra billion or two as a "voluntary contribution to reduce the national debt."

I made the mistake of releasing my income taxes once. In an early race, my opponent demanded it, and I figured, “Why not? I have nothing to hide.” I barely even had income then! Nevertheless, the opposing campaign still went through with a fine-tooth comb, lifted things wildly out of context, and attacked me over them. That’s when I realized that when you demand that your opponent release his tax forms, you aren’t trying to make him prove he’s honest. You’re just trying to shame him into handing you a club to beat him over the head with. I’d rather tell them to go pound sand.

Teen Vogue, having morphed from a teenage fashion and pop culture magazine into a far-left propaganda sheet, now seems determined to become a political satire publication and compete with the Babylon Bee. How else to explain their latest crusade: claiming that getting a good night’s sleep is a legacy of white supremacy and systemic racism that must be set right by giving black people reparations in the form of time off from work so they can sleep in and take “Black Power Naps.”

Just as you can no longer tell the serious “woke” publications from satire, you also can’t tell the white liberals who claim to be defending black people from Klan members repeating timeworn racist insults. At least Teen Vogue is in good company, since the Smithsonian has been doing it, too.

The man in New Jersey who posed as a Fed Ex driver, killed the son of Federal Judge Esther Salas and shot her husband has reportedly been identified as Roy Den Hollander. Police say he took his own life shortly after staging the killings. Hollander was an attorney who hated feminists and filed a number of lawsuits against them, and he’d appeared in Salas’ court before. Authorities say he was dying of terminal cancer and may have been seeking to even some scores since he felt he had nothing to lose. Oddly enough, in his recent case before Salas, challenging the male-only draft, she allowed his case to proceed.

I don’t normally pay much attention to high profile Twitter troll wars, but I have to admit, the flame war between Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Sen. Ted Cruz is highly entertaining as well as thought-provoking. Cuban, who became a billionaire thanks to the American capitalist system, was rather arrogantly defending players who kneel during the National Anthem and challenged Cruz’s courage in criticizing him. Cruz then challenged Cuban to have the courage to criticize China and defend the free speech right to say “Free Hong Kong” the way he defends the right to show disrespect to the US Anthem.

Cuban tried to deflect that the usual liberal way, by attacking how Trump handled the pandemic, but Cruz wouldn’t let him change the subject, reminding him of all the things China is doing that he has been silent on, including releasing the pandemic. It’s a great reminder of why Cruz was both the National and North American debating champion in college. If this Twitter thread were a fight, the referee would have stopped it.

Good for Cruz for reminding Mark Cuban, and all pro sports officials, owners and athletes, that while they are badmouthing America as a racist nation, they are covering up for a country that still – not 160 years ago, but right now – enforces slave labor to create goods that companies associated with US pro sports teams are making big money off of.

And speaking of actual slave labor still being alive in the 21st century, at last, we finally have a President who is doing something about it, not that I expect he’ll be giving any credit for it by the leftist media outlets who seem to think that America is the root of all the world’s evils.

In Portland, where city officials are more concerned with blocking federal troops from enforcing the law and protecting federal property than they are with protecting their own citizens and their property, the violence escalated last night. This time, hundreds of parents joined in to protect the innocent, peaceful protesters, as they tore away the protective barriers to the federal courthouse.

This was the 54th straight day of street violence that Mayor Ted Wheeler insists he needs no federal help to bring under control.

Another update: remember all the breathless reports of “federal goons” in unidentifiable uniforms with no official markings shoving innocent protesters into unmarked vans? Here’s a picture of one of those officers, “with face fully exposed, in uniform with U.S. Border Patrol insignia and an identifying number.”

I think all the people claiming to be "woke" must "wake up" to the fact that they are the ones who are brain washed with all kind of false information.

Good evening Mike. I am a 67 year old married father of three (sadly my two sons have passed away within the last 9 years), married for 47 blessed years to the same wonderful woman. I am an only child and have never met or seen my father other than a tiny picture. My mom worked for 38 years civil service (Air Force and USMC). I collected unemployment for about a week in my entire life and have worked since I was 14, my choice. Why do I tell you these things? I am blessed beyond my ability to understand. I have never felt abandoned nor disenfranchised. I went to college, I am not in debt, my surviving daughter is well balanced. I have never been a racist and have grown up in a racially diverse environment. I was bullied through almost all of my primary school experience, but I'm not angry about it. How can this be you might ask??? Well it is my responsibility to obey the law, my responsibility to provide for my family not expecting that I am due some entitlement for doing nothing with my life. First I believe that Christ died for my sins, and his mercy and grace has delivered me from much of this. Second I am a proud American, who came from a proud American family, that served this country ( Grandpa was a WWI/WW2 vet my Grandma was a nurses aide during WW2, my uncles all served in the military, I even did Marine Corps JR ROTC in high school, graduated during the Viet Nam wrap up). It makes me ill to see all of the disrespect shown to our President! It makes me sad to see how our legislators (admittingly not all of them) show such disregard for our country's system of laws as well as distain for President Trump. It also makes me sad to see our SCOTUS refrain from hearing second amendment cases all the while the left would like nothing more than to disarm law abiding citizens, infringing on the rights afforded by our Constitution, arguably the greatest set of principals set by any country in this world. Sorry for being so wordy, but I am a patriot and believe we live in the greatest country on the planet and never want to see it transformed into some socialist driven mess. Thank you for doing your best to deliver honest information to us and may God bless you and keep you safe! Rick Colston

maybe "lethal" is a little harsh...maybe just "appropriate" counter activeness to the lawlessness actions!

Honestly if there were any issues to be brought to the surface on the president’s tax returns, the IRS is light years ahead of the Dems and mob media. They would have discovered any issues long ago. I suspect that the president’s tax returns are audited frequently. The people on the left are the ones who should be audited for lacking any common sense and any brains between their two ears!

    Continue the good work
All of us need to continually speak the truth and educate all who aren't caught up in permanent TDS
I live near Portland. I can tell you it is an evil city. Took over by New Age adherents in the 1980's and has continued a downhill slide. It is now a third world ghetto the Marxists love.

Time for "TOUGH LOVE" MR PRESIDENT! If certain people want you to but out of their lives for protection...then why waste taxpayers money to pay for something that is NOT WANTED!....the vandals can only just destroy so much properties and lives...when the lawlessness Moves into people's areas that want protection THEN SEND IN THE TROOPS AND ERADICATE THE LAWLESSNESS WITH LETHAL FORCE! Placating lawlessness stupidity just makes more lawlessness actions!

In reference to President Trump being forced to release his tax information to Congress, it is clear that House goons have one transparent goal, and it has nothing to do with legislation. It IS definitely to see what they can pull out of those records to make him look bad in the eyes of the uneducated. Good point, Mike, that Trump probably hasn't done his own taxes in decades. Clearly, the Democrats think we were all born yesterday. It looks like you know from painful experience that even if you feel you have nothing to hide in releasing tax information, your opponent can always find some ridiculous little nugget to beat you over the head with.

I hope the President does not try to save anything in those Dem run cities except for Federal property. Let them stew in the mess they created. If the Federal government goes in and tries to stop the anarchy, it will be blamed for all the damage.

Ref the "peaceful protests" in Portland, maybe some "honorary goons" should go to the mayor's office and hold a similar "peaceful protest". Demonstrate - on him - some of the injuries citizens have received from these peaceful protesters, break up some of the stuff he likes, and let him know what the citizens are going through with his buffoonery on display. Ideally, Bill Barr should get an indictment of the mayor for aiding and abetting these lawless little thugs, then drag him out of his house at 5 in the morning, with Fox news and OAN camera crews to catch the event.

Hello Mike and team, I totally, hands down, agree with you on NOT submitting your tax returns and your previous personal business salary, both should be off limits. It is none of our business seeing any political leaders tax return(s)! The financial disclosure papers are all that we should be able to see. Thank you for posting this and this should be put down on paper for all future Presidents or made law.

I think the voters have a right to see tax returns and the amount of taxpayer dollars spent by each member of Congress and House of Reps for the last 12 years. Let's just let them lay it all out in the open to the world before Oct. 1st, 2020 and then while we are at it the total cost of security for each of them and a full breakdown of all government benefits to each and their families. Don't let them hide one penny of what each of them cost us working taxpayers. I figure there will not be a single one of them fully comply because they will have to include and member of their families who have a contract or own stock in the corporations that the awarded contracts are with.

"The game is over for me, too!" Every American should walk out of the game the moment any person from either team kneels during the National Anthem. Take your money with you. Attach a sign to the ticket booth as you leave - "I stand for the Flag and so should YOU!"

Mike, I am compelled to share this since the Portland uprising continues to escalate. Yesterday I sent an email to a family member who is a law enforcement officer on the ground in Portland to ask him "Just want to know if you are still ok". I want to share excerpts from his response this morning.
"Surviving but getting more frustrated and depressed each day." "Governor and Mayor totally on the side of the criminals!" "Am very happy to see the feds on he ground as are virtually all the cops." "When one of the most violent criminals is arrested, judges let them go and order disciplinary action toward the COP(s) that did the arrest. " "Tried to answer a call on my agency provided cell phone, it was knocked from my hand with a club and destroyed. Wasn't an offense to arrest the person for even though my right hand is bruised." "The media doesn't show 50% of the violence and destruction." "I am sad to say this but from my vantage point, this state is beyond saving now." "Please pray for law enforcement here." "This will be my last communications with you in writing, can't run the risk."

AND By the way, my name is disguised and I just set up this email address for this response.
