I sometimes find it hard to believe that Democrats hold so much power and do so well in elections when their policies have become “progressively” more insane, and in some cases (abortion, grooming and butchering young children, forcing women to compete in sports with men twice their size, etc.) outright barbaric. I often ask myself how so many people can swallow what they’re dishing out.

Are they diehard Democrat partisans no matter what, or are they the most gullible people on Earth? FYI: those two things are not mutually exclusive. As Ronald Reagan presciently observed, “It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.”

The weekend’s news brought two more examples of liberals showing zero respect for both reality and their own followers’ intelligence. The first is the way they’re trying to spin the battle over raising the debt limit, with ludicrous demagoguing of the Republicans’ demand that they agree to only a 1% increase in spending next year.

The Congressional Budget Office’s latest estimate is that the deficit for 2023 will be $1.5 trillion, or $100 billion more than their February estimate, due to an anticipated drop in tax revenues. While we don’t know yet how much the government will spend in 2023, they did spend nearly $6.3 trillion in 2022 (over 25% of the entire national GDP), with a nearly $1.4 trillion deficit. So they’re already spending an insanely large amount of money, about a trillion-and-a-half dollars’ worth being money we don’t have that they’re adding to our grandkids’ credit card.

While it’s eye-popping enough that the Dems not only want to spend far more than that, they’re accusing the Republicans of being “crazy” for trying to rein them in, even as they suggest magical solutions like perverting the 14th Amendment or creating a “trillion-dollar coin” to pay off the deficit (hey, why not mint a bunch of those and give us all one? Do you think vending machines will accept them?)

But what really floored me was hearing one Dem Congressman claim that Republicans don’t care if the hungry go without food. Does anyone seriously believe that if we don’t spend over $600 billion more than last year, we’ll have to slap sandwiches out of the hands of orphans? That the Moby Dick-sized federal budget is so lean and lacking in any fat to trim that if it isn’t increased by more than 1%, grandma will have to eat cat food? Who could possibly be stupid enough to buy that?!

Luckily, it turns out that fewer and fewer people are buying it. After being gaslighted one too many times about the world ending if the debt ceiling isn't raised AGAIN, a new AP/NORC poll found that a whopping 63 percent of Americans want a debt ceiling deal that includes provisions to decrease the federal deficit.

Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us over and over and over and over and over again, shame on voters.

And now, here’s the other “Can you believe they actually think we’re this stupid?” story

In an attempt to jump on the “Destroy Ron DeSantis before he becomes President and wrecks our graft” campaign, the NAACP, LULAC and a gay advocacy group called Equality Florida issued a “travel advisory warning” that under the Republicans, Florida has become “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals.” So they want us to believe it's dangerous for blacks, Hispanics and gay people to go to Florida?

Yes, I can’t think of anyplace more inhospitable to Hispanics than Miami, or to gay people than Miami or Key West. As for blacks, the chairman of the Florida Republican Party, Christian Ziegler, pointed out that NAACP Board Chairman Leon W. Russell actually lives in Tampa, Florida.

He tweeted, “True leadership is being willing to do what you ask others to do…time to step up and MOVE. If you think our state is so bad, the Florida GOP will help with moving costs.”

I have a feeling Mr. Russell never expected anyone to call him out on his hypocritical nonsense. I seriously doubt he will leave Florida, and certainly not to go to some blue city in a blue state, like Chicago, where black people’s lives are in far more danger from all the armed criminals running loose than they would be on a Florida beach. But if he does, I’m sure U-Haul will give him a great rate. So few people are moving from Florida to any blue state that they’ll give you a huge discount just to drive one of their trucks back in the opposite direction.
