##Appellation##,

In the 1976 movie NETWORK, TV personality Howard Beale has an on-air meltdown, ranting on camera to an audience of millions about the dissolution of society and telling everyone to get up, go to their windows and yell, “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it any more!” Many do so. He repeats his antics over and over on camera with enthusiastic support from his network, which mercilessly exploits this train wreck of a human being and milks his show for all it’s worth –- as long as his ratings hold. The story doesn’t end well for this pitiful man, but the media live on.

It’s 2018, and former (as in fired) Trump advisor Sam Nunberg is the Howard Beale of the moment. After being served a subpoena by special counsel Robert Mueller, he apparently went off his nut and started thinking he didn’t have to comply. When he began criticizing members of the Trump campaign and people in his administration, networks lined up to put him on the air. They didn’t care one bit how disturbed and incoherent (and likely drunk and medicated) he was, as long as he had negative things to say about people they don’t like. And, hey, it was great TV, with as much potential for ratings as Howard Beale experiencing a nervous breakdown in prime time.

Not exactly the Wild West

By Mike Huckabee

It’s a cliché among liberals that if the government lets private citizens carry guns in public, before long, we’ll be back to “the Wild West,” with people shooting each other on every street corner over every little offense (that didn’t even happen in the actual Old West, but never mind). Despite mountains of evidence that what actually happens is the exact opposite, the cliché lives on. And it will probably survive this latest story, as well:

Six months ago, the University of Kansas decided to allow students who held concealed carry permits to carry their weapons on campus. They also added three additional security officers and some portable metal detectors. To sum up: more cops, more preemptive security, the possibility that potential victims might be equipped to shoot back, and the school is no longer a known “gun-free zone.”

The results of that decision are now in. The Lawrence Journal-World newspaper reports that crime on campus has dropped by 13% and the number of weapons violations stands at...(drumroll)...zero.

Of special note to feminists who both excoriate gun rights and claim that campuses are hotbeds of rape was this quote from the National Association of Gun Rights: “There’s no doubt that allowing citizens — especially women — to carry the tools for self-defense makes criminals think twice.”

Now, if more people who think the solution to stopping bad guys with guns is to disarm the good guys with guns would just think once, maybe we could pass some reforms that would actually do some good.

Sometimes data explains a lot

By Mike Huckabee

This data well illustrates one of the glaring differences between the liberal havens of New York and California and that big expanse of flyover country between them known as “America.” It examines how many people have concealed carry permits (and for those dreaming of gun confiscation, how many gun owners you’d have to disarm, and these are just the ones with CCPs).

According to the Crime Prevention Research Center, there are about 16.5 million active concealed carry permits in the U.S., which represents about 8% of the entire population. And how many of those are in New York and California? Only 182,000.

Now, I’d like to see the figures on how many of those 182,000 CCPs in New York and California were issued to the armed bodyguards of outspoken, anti-gun celebrities.

End this parents

By Mike Huckabee

A Wisconsin sheriff made a public statement about preventing school shootings that's gone viral and that makes me suspect he’s a much better sheriff than the one in Broward County, Florida. His message doesn’t involve gun control. It’s a message to parents about the right way and the wrong way to raise kids. He thinks that instead of taking guns from law-abiding citizens, it might be more effective for helicopter parents to give up their helicopters.

Time-killer

By Mike Huckabee

Fun Time-Killer: Maps On The Web created a world map showing all the nations of the world with literal translations of what their names would mean in their native languages. Some aren’t too surprising (the USA is “United States of America” and Switzerland is “Land of the Swiss”). Some are hilarious (Mexico translates as “In The Navel of the Moon,” and Spain is “Land of Many Rabbits.”) But with some, you’d never guess the country by its literally translated name (check out France.)

Dear Governor Huckabee - I have had enough and I am not going to take it any more. You ran for President and I wonder if you would consider (not sure if you could but if you could please consider it immediately) to run for Governor of California. We are the 5th largest economy in the world and we need a spiritual guide to make our State great again. We are imploding here Governor and this is the wild wild west. MS13, Planned Parenthood selling body parts (DA in Orange County proved it) Christians being prosecuted and Mexico making a run to take over the state. We need a strong leader. You wanted to be President to make America return to her moral values back to God and His way. If you could save California with the power of God and save California the White House is not that far away. Reagan did it. I know you could to. Please I have lived here all but 9 months of my life and I love my state. She needs your help Governor. Please.
