Evening Edition -January 17

January 17, 2019

Iowa Rep. Steve King was stripped by fellow Republicans of his committee assignments for his controversial comments about white supremacy and Western civilization (note: he claims his comments were taken out of context and misrepresented), but he will not be censured by the House.  The move to censure him was quietly and overwhelmingly shelved – ironically, after top Democratic leaders pressed fellow Democrats to drop it.

Democratic leaders reportedly feared that if they set a precedent of such harsh punishment for controversial speech that it could come back to bite them if Republicans started pulling up things they’ve said and demanding censure votes for those, too.  Which is easy to imagine, considering some of the things that have been said just in the past two weeks.

Sounds as if Democrats have learned something from the boomerang that hit them after they wholeheartedly jumped on the “MeToo” bandwagon and demanded that all accusations of sexual harassment and assault should be believed – until the fingers started pointing at them.

Tucker Carlson of Fox News had an interesting segment last night on Texas Senate loser and inexplicable Democratic Presidential frontrunner, Beto O’Rourke.

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/tucker-carlson-beto-orourke-isnt-into-details-in-the-immigration-but-he-knows-walls-are-bad

O’Rourke seems to have a lot of things he feels passionately about, but can’t quite articulate why.  One thing he has no use for is walls.  In a new interview with the Washington Post, he compared a border security wall to the evils of the Berlin Wall and the walls around World War II Japanese internment camps.  But there is a big difference (aside from the Japanese internment camps being built by Democratic icon, Franklin Roosevelt): those walls were built to keep innocent people IN, not to keep intruders out.

O’Rourke also declared that if we build a border wall, “You will ensure death. You and I, as Americans, have caused the deaths of others through these walls."  He wasn’t exactly clear on how a wall ever caused the death of anyone other than Humpty Dumpty. But one of his supports tried to make sense of that statement by claiming that the wall would be in the easiest, most traveled parts of the border, which would force people wanting to enter the US illegally to go to the more dangerous, remote areas to get around them, and they might die, and that would be on our heads.

First of all, thanks for acknowledging that walls work.  But would we really be "forcing" people to break in at a more dangerous point if made it harder at the easy entry points?  If some people choose to risk their lives to enter the US illegally, is it our fault for not making it easier for them to break our laws?  By that logic, since doors and windows are our homes' easiest entry points, shouldn’t we take the locks off them so that burglars can come right on in rather than "force" them to risk injury by climbing a ladder to break in through the attic?

With that kind of reasoning, I’m starting to suspect O’Rourke must hate walls because he once skateboarded head-first into one.  Incidentally, that is the only way that walls kill anybody.

 -----------------

Congressional Democrats might think walls are immoral, but they sure love grandstands.  For instance, Speaker Nancy Pelosi seems to think she has the power to cancel President Trump’s State of the Union Address on the questionable grounds that the leader of the House has to invite him there to speak and the patently false claim that security services can’t guarantee everyone’s safety, what with them being so decimated by the government shutdown (that’s ALL TRUMP’S FAULT, of course.)  It was a blatantly self-serving hunk of political hooey wrapped in a veneer of piety, much as you might stick a bitter pill inside a meatball in hopes that the dog will swallow it.

https://www.westernjournal.com/pelosi-tells-trump-reschedule-state-union-just-deliver-writing/

I hate to sound cynical, but I think the real reason she doesn’t want Trump giving a State of the Union Address is that she doesn’t want him to have a massive public forum to speak directly to the American people and explain why he’s making a stand for border security that the Democrats are desperate to prevent, and to do so without Jim Acosta and the other members of the anti-Trump Peanut Gallery constantly interrupting.  The security excuse is as bogus as the Democrats’ claims that they really support border security (just no measures that would actually insure it), or that they oppose a wall because wasting tax money is so offensive to their frugal natures.

In fact, vital federal security services are not cut during the partial shutdown.  SOTU security is handled by the Capitol Police (fully funded) and the Secret Service (fully funded, and they’ve been planning the security for this event for months.)

And as of yesterday, the estimated cost of the government shutdown surpassed the $5.7 billion that Trump asked Congress for in the first place, so the Democrats can no longer even cite the laughably feeble excuse that they’re blocking a border wall because it’s a waste of money.  They’ve now wasted more money on the shutdown that it would have cost to fund the wall, and the total is rising every day.

https://www.barrons.com/articles/government-shutdown-cost-51547665457

Of course, Trump will not cancel his SOTU Address, but there are a few creative suggestions for altering it.  Some conservatives suggested doing it from the White House, to deprive the Democrats of camera time while emphasizing all the money he was saving taxpayers as his opponents let the expensive government shutdown drag on.

Ben Shapiro also offered an idea to give the speech from the border, surrounded by Border Patrol agents who have to deal with the problem of illegal entry every day.

Or Trump could call one of his rallies in a swing state and give the SOTU in front of 50,000 or so supporters who now have good jobs and rising wages.

I think those are all fine ideas.  But I wouldn’t endorse Trump giving the SOTU speech in the format he’d probably like most: a series of 500 Twitter tweets.

 ------------------------

Could this be considered a “crack in the wall”?

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/hoyer-says-border-walls-obviously-work-rejects-pelosis-suggestion-that-barrier-is-immorality

------------------------

Interesting exchange heard on Fox News:  The Democrats are trying to appear reasonable by saying that if Trump will just cave in and reopen the government, then they’ll discuss border security with him.  Mollie Hemingway pointed out that the American people have been promised for years that if we let Congress pass one immigration reform after another, they’ll get to border security later, and they never do.  She said it’s time for them to do their Constitutional duty.

Brett Baier responded that it’s unlikely they’ll do that with the 2020 election to distract attention.  But he observed that according to politicians, we’re always “one election away” from solving problems.  I’d add, “Or from Congress doing its Constitutional duty.”

In light of all this, I have a new nickname for the current crop of wall-averse Democrats: “The Wimpy Democrats.”  I don’t mean they suffer a severe lack of testosterone, like Gillette wants its customers to. No, I mean like Wimpy from the old “Popeye” cartoons:

"We will gladly give you border security Tuesday for legalizing another 11 million illegal immigrants today!"

 ---------------------

The IRS announced that during the current partial government shutdown, returns will be accepted and refunds will be paid, but there will be no new audits.  If this is meant to panic Americans into demanding the shutdown end, I don’t think it’s gonna work.

    Instead of the President trying to compromise with people who have no interest in any compromise why don't we have a series of Presidential rallies around the USA with guests paying $10,000.00 each (or more if they wish) to attend. We'll be glad to pay for the wall.

    My wife, Adel, and I enjoyed our trip to Israel with your group and hope to be able to go again.

    While reading this, it occurred to me that, they're saying we should not build the wall in the high traffic areas because this would cause the invaders to try to cross in more dangerous areas, thus, their accidents or deaths would be on our heads. This compares to saying we must legalize abortion so women won't die from back alley abortions.

    Hello Mike,
    Next time there is a shutdown, lets reverse the paychecks. The people (tax payers) keep their paychecks and the Government
    ( congress, senate, president, etc gets no paychecks until they come to an agreement. Lets see how far the next shutdown last-----lol---probably not that long.

    Have you read Newt's information regarding Sen. Feinstein's former driver, etc., being a CHINESE SPY??? I am appalled at all the underhanded things that liberals get away with! I feel like we are always "Preaching to the choir" in that one thing after another is exposed, but NOTHING HAPPENS except our President gets DUMPED on!!! I think Conservatives need to start taking out television ads - NOT ON FOX NEWS bc they tell the truth!! - CNN, MSNBC, etc.

    A while back I wrote about Congress hourly wages equivalency with benefits for 1996 which amounted to a little over $380.00 an hour according to a very reliable financial publication. Do you know where we can find what the hourly salary equivalency is now and where the "so-called" entitlements are listed for each member of Congress? I have looked all overt he Internet, and I can not find anything of accuracy and reliability. As a member of We the People tax payers I'd like to have some idea of where my hard earned tax money is going. Thank You for your often times very "educational" articles/comments.

    From Bill O’Reilly group
    Shared on Facebook by a teacher in California who sees firsthand the destruction of America.
    "Nine hundred teachers just got laid off from the Los Angeles Unified School District. They are $650,000 over their annual budget. The following comments by an English teacher help to explain one area that looms large over California's educational crisis. I hope each person receiving this mail will read it carefully, all the way to the end.
    It is sad what is happening to our great country, all because our politicians are afraid they will miss out on a vote. What a travesty!
    This English teacher has phrased it the best I've seen yet and it should make everyone think, be you Democrat, Republican or Independent.
    From a California school teacher....
    As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of: I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title-1 school, meaning that its students average in the lower socio-economic and income levels.
    Most of the schools you are hearing about are Compton, South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc., where their students are protesting – these are also Title-1 schools.
    Title-1 schools are on the free-breakfast and free-lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking about a glass of milk and a roll. But a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make the Marriott proud.
    The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (Our tax dollars at work!)
    I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more have cell phones.
    The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids (More of our tax dollars at work!)
    I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department, or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything.
    My budget was already substantial, but I ended up buying new computers for the Computer Learning Center, half of which, one month later, were carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (More and more of our tax dollars at work!)
    I have had to intervene several times for young substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less than 3 months, who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them putas (whores) and throwing things,
    that the teachers were in tears.
    Free medical care, free education, free food, free day care, etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled not only to be in this country, but also to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?
    To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society, because they happen to like their gardener and/or housekeeper, and they like to pay less for tomatoes, I say:
    Spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the true costs. Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases, etc., etc., etc. For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes.
    Americans, we need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won't have the guts to enforce it. Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave and return?
    It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by age 15, and that refuses to assimilate, plus an American culture that has become so weak and worried about "political correctness", that we don't have the will to do what is needed.
    If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know including your Congressman and Senators.
    Cheap labor? Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about? Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage.
    Consumers don't want expensive produce. Government will tell you "Americans don't want the jobs"
    .
    But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie. There is no such thing as "cheap labor".
    Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or $6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an income tax return, he gets an "earned income credit"
    of up to $3,200 free.
    Also....
    1- He qualifies for Section-8 housing and subsidized rent;
    2- He qualifies for food stamps;
    3- He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care;
    4- His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school;
    5- He requires bilingual teachers and books;
    6- He qualifies for relief from high energy bills;
    7- If they are, or become aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI;
    8- Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare (All of this at taxpayer's {our} expense);
    9- He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowner’s insurance;
    10- Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material;
    11- He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits;
    12- Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills and his;
    13- The American taxpayers also pays for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.
    14- Free Child Care (i.e., free babysitting from 6 AM – 6 PM
    15- Free ‘mommy makeovers’ after having their children ( includes: tummy tuck and breast lift)
    Cheap labor? Yeah right! Wake up people!
    These are the questions we should be addressing to the Presidential candidates for either party. We must take action or we will all go down the drain because a few don't care.
    And if you think this is bad, just wait until a Democrat becomes President and the redistribution of wealth becomes the norm in this ex-Democracy. The estimated annual cost now, for state, local and federal, is nearly $400 billion dollars a year.

    You probably hit the nail on the head about pelosi and the SOTU speech. Since when did the speaker of the house have to ask the President to do the SOTU? A new rule she just thought up? I do think getting her old job back with her little gavel in hand has finished tipping her over the brink. While speaker of the house is an important position, she seems to portray that it is the most important position in the government, and that it carries the most weight--and that she can just ignore all the other representatives and do what she wants.

    So, the democrats are going after Neomi Rao on her nomination for the DC circuit of appeals position. Wait a minute--she is female (I don't know, maybe identifying yourself as the sex you were born as is now a taboo?) which should make the women glad. Then, she is Native American-- a bona fide Native American unlike a senator we all all know. She can't be accused of white supremacy. They sure had to go W-A-Y back to find some writings she did in college which seems to be their only objection. Pretty sure they didn't read on through to years to see if her writings show a change in her opinions. You know, like the democrats are pretty fluid in their changes of opinions, like being for the wall, and now not. Or those who were anti-same sex marriage and then they were pro. They get to change their opinions (even if for the wrong reasons) but no one else can change over the years?

    beto is a joke. I can't believe he came any where near close to Sen. Cruz in the voting, but I guess he does have his followers. Sure hope those who think he's all that get smart before the 2020 elections--hope he doesn't get that far, though.

    It seems there are very few left who really know the law or the Constitution. All I see on MSM is fake news. Even in our esteemed Congress I hear the whinings of adult children who are upset that they can't play with fire. It's definitely a world someone high on LSD(acid) would fit in well. It's a dangerous world. We in the Church must once again repent and seek God's face.He may still look favorably upon us. I see this country as coming into severe times. Our hope is in Him, and not any politician or law, no matter how well written.

    In this day of Constant hammering of the same identical talking points from the so called journalist a counter is necessary. I think the POTUS should hold the SOTU from two locations on the border. One from Jim Acosta's location showing how well the wall works and another from the choke points that are actually attempting to hold back thousands of undocumented democrats ( and they know it) . I would NOT give Nanny the satisfaction of sitting behind me and snickering while I attempt to finally have the ability to lay out my accomplishments without the media filter. The most wonderful thing Trump did all week was cancelling Pelosi's trip, as well as cancelling our participation in Davos. yeah, Beto who Isn't beto, showcases, the lib mental illness. And the pathetic excuse by a supporter? AOC in masculine form. Knows nothing and worse is a documented criminal. He represents nothing because he knows nothing. I think DT should do the SOTU message from the WH and keep the dimwits out of the limelight. I think he should highlight what he's done and what they refuse to do. The dems need to be put in the spotlight for their childish failures. They should be fully noted for their documented hatred for the American people and American ideals. They no longer hide their communist agenda, let's stop being PC and call them what they are...communists. They are operating by the Alinsky play book. They favor any and all foreigners over americans . I believe there is a legal term for that and a prescribed punishment according to the constitution, the USC and the UCMJ. Time to carry all that punishment.

    As far as Gillette goes, first for me they will have to give me a concise definition of "Toxic masculinity", next explain to me how I am going to shave that off, Three they are going to have to explain to me why masculinity, which they make razors for is toxic. Yes another example of liberal mental illness? I guess they haven't learned from the Dick's example of "shooting of your mouth without thinking." DT is the driver's seat. Dems are the ones who need to watch out.
