March 15, 2020

Friday, President Trump held a news conference in which he officially declared the COVID-19 coronavirus to be a national emergency. That quickly freed up about $50 billion worth of federal aid. This comes just two days after the World Health Organization declared it a pandemic. Also, in a move that shows how different this President is from previous Presidents (and how vastly different he is from those who seek to replace him), he announced that he had struck deals with some of America’s largest corporations, such as WalMart, Target, Google and CVS, to use their vast resources to assist in fighting the disease and helping Americans with procedures and testing. Instead of using the emergency as an “opportunity” to grow government, he’s employing the greater efficiency of the private sector in partnership with government.

Trump also announced that he’s waiving interest on federally-held student loans until further notice.

Another way Trump is different from any Democrat seeking to replace him is that he also declared Sunday to be a National Day of Prayer.

Trump’s actions must have impressed Wall Street, since the Dow roared back by nearly 2,000 points, the biggest one-day gain since the 2008 meltdown, shortly after it took the worst drop since 1987.

Also, late last night, the House passed a bill providing emergency funding for dealing with the pandemic, after the Administration demanded a rewrite due to objections that House Democrats were larding up the bill with lefty wish list items, like taxpayer-paid abortions.

Here’s the full text of Trump’s letter:

And full video of the press conference:

You can safely skip the Q&A from reporters at the end. It was mostly a lot of lame “gotcha” attempts by reporters who don’t seem to get that Trump is dealing with a life-or-death health crisis, and very effectively. This is not the time to try to undermine his efforts with your one-track-mind Trump Derangement Syndrome. As noted previously, even such rabid anti-Trump Governors as California’s Gavin Newsom and New York’s Andrew Cuomo…

…have praised Trump and his team for quickly providing them with everything they promised. I’m glad of this, but not that surprised: Governors may be politicians, but it's much more important to be pragmatic and work with whoever you have to in order to protect your state’s citizens. If actual Democratic politicians can put aside partisanship and acknowledge that Trump is doing a good job, maybe the amateur Democratic politicians in the media could try that as well.

When I see how many ways the media try to attack Trump (when one path fails, they try another, then another), it makes me think that COVID-19 may not be the most aggressive virus plaguing America today. For instance, Trump was called a racist, xenophobic incompetent for acting too quickly to shut down all travel from China. Once it became apparent that bought us precious time, they attacked him for not doing it soon enough. Now, they’re trying to circle back to the nonsense “racist” charge, but in a way that only makes themselves look hypocritical…

As for the claim that Trump was ignoring the coronavirus or not doing enough, Deborah Birx, the internationally known HIV/AIDS expert appointed by Trump to help coordinate his coronavirus response, said there has been “intense effort” put into bringing quality testing kits to people “at unprecedented speed,” adding, “I understand that a lot of this behind-the-scenes action in the last couple of weeks was invisible to the press and the American people.”

So she’s saying that Trump and his people were actually exerting intense effort to deal with the crisis, but the public might not have known it because they were putting their efforts into dealing with the crisis rather than trying to make themselves look good to the media.

I think I’ve just found another way that this President is very different from all the people trying to replace him!

The media’s attempts to undermine confidence in the President during a health crisis are becoming so blatant that I sense Americans are getting fed up, and maybe some of the biased reporters may have enough brains to sense that, too. For instance, many media outlets gleefully pointed out how stock futures plummeted during President Trump’s address to the nation. They tried to paint it as the market having no confidence in Trump’s leadership, rather than what it really was: the inevitable reaction to him having to deliver bad news.

So when he started to give his press conference on Friday, and the Dow dropped by 300 points at the start, former New York Times reporter Jim Roberts tried to get snarky with a tweet about that. Sadly for his narrative, the Dow quickly rebounded by almost 2,000 points, the biggest one-day gain since 2008.

And how did Roberts respond? By apologizing? Admitting he was wrong? No, of course not. He simply deleted that tweet, then tried to spin a major accomplishment by Trump into a negative. But he forgot: the Internet is forever…

It’s not often that I see possibly the dumbest statement of the year by a national government mouthpiece, only to see it followed by the dumbest social media comment of the year.

The former came when China’s state-run news outlet, Xinhua, editorialized that the US owes China an apology for criticizing its response to the coronavirus and threatened that China could cut off exports of medicine to the US, plunging America into “the mighty sea of coronavirus.”

Okay, imagine you’re a nation that just suffered three years of economic decline because of a trade war with the US. You desperately need to rebuild a trust and a good relationship with the US. So you threaten to cut off our medicines. This is not only a stark reminder that we cannot trust China to manufacture our necessities, like pharmaceuticals, computer parts, etc., but it’s also a ringing vindication of Trump’s call to divest from China, diversify our suppliers and bring essential industries back to the US. That threat may have been aimed at Trump, but it actually boomeranged on China. It made Trump's point in a bone-chilling way, and blew away all the elite globalists who’ve been dismissing his warnings about China since 2016.

And what was the dumbest social media comment? Someone on Twitter said Trump couldn’t stand up to China because “we owe them a trillion dollars.”

Pardon me, but…doesn’t that fall under the category of “China’s problem”? And think for a moment who this guy is talking about: Donald Trump. The man who once forced banks to deal with him on his terms because they’d loaned him so much money that if he defaulted on the loan, they’d go bankrupt. I have a feeling that he will not be intimidated by how much money China thinks we owe them.

Corona-Phone-a Virus: Tips for how to disinfect your cell phone without damaging it. Although I assume you aren’t loaning it to strangers anyway.

Obvious Observation of the Day: A Seattle radio host told Tucker Carlson on Fox News about the city’s concerns over the possible spread of the coronavirus among the huge homeless population, due to their poor hygiene and inability to follow rules. This prompted them to wonder who could ever have anticipated that there might be a health downside to leftist politicians allowing insane people to live and defecate on garbage-filled public sidewalks as if they were running Calcutta?

From the Selective Memory Bank: Democrats who are trashing Trump for seeking a temporary payroll tax cut to help mitigate the economic effects of the coronavirus, and claiming it’s a giveaway to the wealthy and to corporations, hailed Barack Obama’s economic genius and compassion for working Americans when he signed a payroll tax cut extension into law.

Great thread from Instapundit about all the media outlets trying to advance China’s phony, self-serving narrative about the COVID-19 coronavirus. Do they really hate Trump that much, or are their parent companies really that dependent on Chinese money, or is it both?

If you want to catch up on all the latest stats on the COVID-19 coronavirus in real time, check out this terrific website. It was built by 17-year-old high school student, Avi Schiffman!

And how many overpaid bureaucrats did it take to build that Obamacare website?...

Yesterday, I mentioned that I tried watching a little of Stephen Colbert, just to see how well his childish mockery of President Trump would come off without a studio audience clapping and hollering to tell us what the “funny” parts were supposed to be. The result was even more embarrassingly deadly than I expected. Apparently, I’m not the only one who thought that, since it took just one night of that horror for the networks to announce that the liberal late night “comedy” shows would go into reruns until further notice, rather than try to do new shows without their not-very-demanding human laugh tracks.

If liberals need a comedy show to tell them why they should hate Trump every night, they’ll just have to tune in Rachel Maddow.

News You Can Use! If you’re having to keep the kids home from school because of the coronavirus closures, here are some tips from a homeschooling parent on all the learning resources you can access to make the most of that at-home time.

Note from “Huckabee” writer Pat Reeder: The public schools might be sorry they closed if enough parents try home schooling and see the results. My niece homeschools her two daughters, and they are great kids who excel in a variety of fields, both academic and extracurricular. If you’re worried about that “social distancing,” her older daughter, Nelda, just won first place in a national ballroom dance championship event in New York City (yes, I AM a proud uncle!) You might keep your kids home for the virus and decide to keep them home for good for the education.

This story could spell the end of a once-promising political career. On the other hand, since he’s a Democrat, I have two words for you to consider: “Marion Barry.”

Here’s something we could all use right about now: some great news out of Florida, for both parents and students:

Even the Washington Post has given Joe Biden’s campaign a “Four Pinocchio” dishonesty rating for its selectively-edited anti-Trump ad. Still waiting to see if that will be enough to make Twitter ban it, the way they ban conservatives for saying things that are demonstrably true but you’re not supposed to say them out loud.

Congratulations to a Member of the “Huckabee” Family! If you’re looking for a great way to kill time at home, check out this interview with our writer Laura Ainsworth in the venerable jazz magazine, “Cadence.” When she’s not doing her day job as a writer, she’s an award-winning singer of retro-style lounge jazz. In fact, if you really want to enjoy your self-quarantine, pick up some of her music at Naturally, she’s on vinyl LP, too!

And here she is, singing a great old Mills Brothers tune with Tre Corley and the Music City Connection on the “Huckabee” stage…

After working in a ER/trauma center for 42yrs, being exposed since 1975 to measles, chicken pox, shingles, AIDES, hepatitis a/b/c, SARS, Mers, Ebola, pneumonia, TB, ever flu on the planet, H1N1, I’m alive and well. I never thought I would live to see this crap. I will not be ordered to do anything by local government when there’s very few cases around my small town. The damage China’s problem has caused around the world which is not being mentioned is criminal and unacceptable. Thanks for letting me vent. BTW people need to stop panic buying

Thanks for yet another great read! I am so impressed with the "dashboard" that the 17 yr old young man built. All day on TV they talk about the virus but this site actually gives some great information about how things are going world wide that are never even mentioned. Thank you for letting us know about this! I can not begin to impart how angry, fed up and just want to choke somebody after watching the doctored Biden ad. Absolutely infuriating!!! I pray the majority of voters will see who is doing what is best for this country....TRUMP 2020

Since the president announced a National Day of Prayer for Sunday, and it didn't
make the press, maybe we (your daily blogs) could not just repeat it daily, but suggest every believer make a point of including every important aspect of recovery in their daily prayers - and thank God every day for His promise to answer prayers of the faithful.
P.S. My Church has not stopped meeting...."where two or more are gathered in My name, I am there" (paraphrased). It also has services on live video on U-tube and via the Church APP for those with family members not feeling well enough to attend. Yesterday, we still had about 50% attendance. (Sure separates the faithers from the just Church goers)

I was really impressed by your picking up ways for parents to do some real home schooling.
A similar issue to look at: lots of working parents still must go to work, or risk being let go:
Is there a network scheme we could encourage for local communities to find reliable babysitting services (obviously with proper precautions for both healthy conditions and principled caretakers).
We have relatives who have done licensed preschool care in the past, with unannounced visits by county officials, but that was a long time ago.
There must be some qualifying guidelines on-line these days in most counties for would-be caretakers to learn the rules and regulations (now including the health precautions for isolation and keeping clean, including the maximum number at a "facility") before applying for licenses.
I wonder if some SBA emergency funds could be allocated for serious candidates to get processed for licensing.

May you and your entire staff be blessed with safety and protection, so that the good stuff can keep coming.

Foreign countries (especially China) are our only current source of lead which is critical in a shooting war thanks to Obama's EPA. The DEMwits have forgotten that the way Kennedy turned this country into a services country was to tax industry. The result was that industry took our manufacturing jobs out of country. Sounds like what Sanders, and his crooked opponent Biden, are proposing. Backwards rather than progressive.

Because your newsletters touch my heart, what I write is authored by the feelings OF my heart...and BECAUSE they ARE authored by my HEART, rather than my HEAD, I write spontaneously and don't stop to THINK about what I have written
......which is WHY, AFTER I wrote my lengthy comment to your earlier newsletter, I THEN found myself questioning how appropriate it was...ALTHOUGH...

Mike, when I wrote what I wrote to your earlier newsletter, I did so realizing that you might NOT post it, not only because it was lengthy, but also because it stated things from a spiritual perspective that many people would find hard to relate to!
I saw where the latest comment that WAS posted was an earlier time than when I submitted MY comment so I still don't know if it WILL be posted....However, the
important thing TO me is not whether or not my comment IS posted, but, rather, that you DO read it!

If I had to choose the statement, in this newsletter, that MOST grabbed my heart, I think it would be where you state: "Yesterday, I mentioned that I tried watching a little of Stephen Colbert, just to see how well his childish MOCKERY of President Trump would come off without a studio audience clapping and hollering to tell us what the “funny” parts were supposed to be." ....WHY, you ask, WAS it this statement that grabbed my heart? I WILL TELL YOU.......

I will begin by saying that, after I copied, and pasted, this statement you made, I capitalized the word MOCKERY because my comment to your earlier newsletter was all ABOUT "mockery" . ...mockery that is not only being made of our EARTHLY commander-in-chief, but also of our HEAVENLY Commander-in-Chief!

If you HAVE read the comment ( "dissertation" ) I wrote in response to your earlier newsletter, then you will, perhaps, better understand WHY, when I WATCHED the mockery Stephen Colbert makes of President Trump, I felt the kind of RIGHTEOUS rage that burns in the bones...heart...of one who HAS the kind of heart a TRUE prophet of God has....because...the one through whom God SPEAKS, is also the one through whom He weeps!

So....prior TO feeling righteous rage in response to Stephen Colbert's mockery of our President, I feel an agonizing grief I go again....of my seeing what Colbert DOES to President Trump being the same kind of thing that is DONE to a kid, by other kids, that makes him pick up a gun and want to kill his tormentors!...So, my response to Stephen Colbert...(and the other late night hosts who also never cease to mock President Trump)/is.... "How come 'we' allow this poison to continue! It's got to stop!" .....

AND THE CRY IN MY COMMENT TO YOUR EARLIER NEWSLETTER CAN BE SUMMED UP BY THOSE LAST FOUR WORDS, "It's got to stop!" ....that "it" being all the evil that is making a mockery of the godly values this country was founded on!

One of the many evils that has been hurled at our President is accusing him of being mentally ill and what are the many things lacking in his "character" ...and, my friend, all I would have to say to refute that accusation is to state:

"Mike Huckabee is one of the mentally HEALTHIEST people I know and his support OF President Trump's mental health says it all! And since Mike Huckabee is also spiritually healthy...and, therefore, is a man of sterling character... his assessment of President Trump's opposed to the Democrats' character...and the character of ALL who hate our President....also says it all!"

I realize I probably your only reader who questions that China randomly had a unknown virus . That they hid multiple weeks/months from the world. Would t let US doctors(CDC) in to help.consistentky lies abt the virus and it’s severity. Threaten the US to shut down pharmaceuticals destine for US. I agree with Sherlock Holmes , “after you’ve examined everything it isn’t you only left with what it is!”

The 57 men who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 were 'OUTLAWS' to the government....AND MANY OF THEM LOST EVERYTHING! In 1775, 72 men were murdered by British army for refusing to 'give up their guns'. In 1938 Hitler ordered all guns to be registered.,. And then he took them away and murdered millions. WE TOO MUST BE OUTLAWS! If I have to go to jail for your and my liberties, so be it. I would rather be judged by 12 than buried by 6. WE MUST HAVE A SPINE and fight against an unconstitutional law. If we do not fight, our children will not be free.
Refuse to get 'permits'...That is government 'control', not liberty. I know many who do not and will not. "The right to own and carry a gun WITHOUT INFRINGEMENT'. Gun laws are just that...infringements. That is part of the communist movement chipping away at our Constitution.
JOHN HANCOCK signed his name BOLDLY on the Declaration of Independence, to show he was not afraid of the government.... RONNIE BRACKETT will do the same! I REFUSE TO GET A 'PERMIT' FOR MY FREEDOM....or it is not 'freedom'. 'PERMITS' ARE ONLY GOVERNMENT CONTROL. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights, were to keep the GOVERNMENT SUBMISSIVE TO THE PEOPLE!

People are critical of the media and with 100's of reasons. I wonder the intel we have about this virus is that the senior population with already having medical problems is the most likely to attract the virus. My question is how many seniors 80 year olds with big medical problems are at these sporting events St. Patrick day parades still going to work and are attending elementary middle school High School and college I went to lunch Friday and I was the oldest person in the the place and I am only 71 its Sunday night my wife is a retired RN and keeps my hands so clean I now have put on hand lotion. My point the media brought us Russian Collusion the Kavaungh hearings Impeachment Southern Border crossing a manufactured crisis the media has called all Trump supporters Racist and you know the rest of their terms so WHY do I think this virus might be a bit overboard to the point the country has almost shut down!!!!!!! Has the Media checked out the dead, of drug overdose are they doing a daily count for that or people taking their own lives or how many abortions occur every day no count available? but a 80 year old dies of heart failure and a virus is to blame? Not buying it. Trust the media? NO WAY! St Judes, our wounded Warriors, or how about the cure for cancer or the common cold if we are sending money send them some this virus will turn out to be like the Impeachment Russian Collusion and America is Racist the Media spreads every f-ing day. I' ve been home for 2 days and I have watched some TV a little fed up already with the coverage. I feel a little better.
