UPDATE: At this writing, the “transcript” of the phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was just released (technically, it’s not a verbatim transcript, but based on "notes and recollections" of those listening and memorializing the call.)
It shows that Trump did bring up Ukraine looking into the firing of the prosecutor that Joe Biden was bragging about arranging, but as part of a wider discussion of cleaning up Ukrainian corruption. He also referred to Crowdstrike, which I assume was part of asking the Ukrainian leader to help look into the 2016 Russian hacking of the DNC server (I thought the Democrats wanted Trump to do more to block Russian interference in our elections?)
Despite all the accusations of Trump threatening to withhold aid from Ukraine if they didn’t investigate Biden, nothing like that appears in the transcript. Zelensky even thanks Trump for all his support for Ukraine. You can read it all for yourself here:
I’m not an attorney, so I’ll leave the legal analysis to the experts. But at first layman’s glance, it sounds as if Trump is urging Ukraine to clean up its infamous corruption, which unfortunately included well-known accusations involving our former Vice President and his son that Joe Biden publicly bragged about. As Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the US, Trump would be negligent if he knew about such allegations of abuse of power by a top US official and did nothing about them, but I guess the fact that Biden is a Democrat running for President now makes him immune from all laws (precedent established 2016.)
And at first glance at the reactions, I predict that those who support Trump will say, “That’s all there is?” while his political opponents will scream, “We’ve got him now! BURN HIM!!” In short, it will be another typical Wednesday like most others since November 2016.
PS – One other point worth noting: Zelensky is effusive in his praise of Trump, saying he learned how to win elections and drain Ukraine's own corrupt swamp by watching Trump. I actually believe that, more than anything, is why the Democrats and the DC swamp dwellers are so desperate to get rid of Trump by any means possible. He’s a worldwide existential threat to entrenched corrupt elitists everywhere.
