It's the government's own fault if Americans doubt elections

Thanks to all the readers who offered comments on the viability of another Trump run for the presidency in response to our piece, “An erratic Trump needs to clear his head and assess his role.” Hundreds of responses came in; we’ll have results and a follow-up possibly as early as tomorrow. In the meantime, here’s a piece at TOWNHALL you might like to see.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/saraharnold/2022/11/13/forever-trump-supporters-are-changing-their-minds-on-who-they-want-to-run-in-2024-n2615893

President Trump has continued interjecting himself, posting about the senatorial election in Arizona.

https://www.theepochtimes.com/trump-alleges-voter-fraud-in-arizona-senate-race-demands-do-over

This EPOCH TIMES piece is subscription-only, but we’ll summarize. Trump said in a post on Truth Social that “possibly corrupt” officials had “lost control of the tainted Election in Arizona” after the Senate race was called for Democrat incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly. “This is a scam and voter fraud, no different than stuffing the ballot boxes,” he said. “They stole the election from Blake Masters. Do election over again!”

Trump complained about the long lines at the polls due to machine malfunctions and a judge’s refusal to extend voting hours. “People were forced to wait for hours,” he correctly said, “then got exhausted or had other things to do and left the voting lines by the thousands.” That last part was an assumption, but it does seem that when Democrats want the polls kept open later for one reason or another, judges typically rubber-stamp their request rather than risk being accused of disenfranchising them. Why do they not do the same when it’s the Republicans being disenfranchised?

At this writing, Masters still has not conceded the race, saying there were hundreds of thousands of pro-Republican ballots left to count. We shall see, but we know how these extended vote counts mysteriously tend to go in the end.

Masters himself said:

“If, at the end, Senator Kelly has more of them than I do, then I will congratulate him on a hard-fought victory. But voters decide, not the media; let’s count the votes,”

“For my people who knocked doors in the 115 degree heat, and for the million+ Arizonans who put their faith in me, we are going to make sure that every legal vote is counted,”

As votes continue dribbling in for the Arizona governor’s race, the impressive GOP candidate Kari Lake is so far not pushing ahead the way it had been thought she might. As of late Sunday night, victory is looking less likely. Katie Hobbs’ campaign is essentially declaring victory. You remember Katie Hobbs, the Arizona secretary of state who is in charge of...say it with me now...ELECTIONS?

“This one hurts,” says Bonchie at REDSTATE. “...Arizona would have been lucky to have a governor with a backbone who isn’t afraid to protect her constituents. Instead, they are going to get Katie Hobbs, a cowardly do-nothing whose top concerns seem to be abortion and avoiding questions...There are going to have to be questions asked about why this happened while other GOP candidates in Arizona prevailed.”

https://redstate.com/bonchie/2022/11/13/the-fat-lady-warms-up-for-kari-lake-in-arizona-katie-hobbs-appears-to-declare-victory-n658594

And this brings us to the main focus for today: the loss of trust in the outcomes of our elections. Leftists maintain that “saving democracy” and maintaining faith in elections means prohibiting anyone from questioning or challenging them in any way. Right...we’ll have more trust in elections by making them LESS transparent. That is so off the mark that one has to wonder if their attitude stems not from the desire to protect democracy but from the need to hide their, um, cheating.

We can do postmortems and try to come up with explanations that don’t involve fraud, but that involves a good bit of reaching. (Remember our talk about Occam’s Razor, the simplest and most obvious explanation usually being the correct one?) The explanations that are given to us don’t make sense, given everything we see. And that’s just what Wayne Allen Root says in a new column, called “You’ve been gaslighted --- Democrats just stole another election.”

Word to Google or anyone else who wants to flag this as “misinformation”: By doing the Democrat Party’s bidding, you might think you’re “saving democracy” or “preserving trust in our elections,” but you’re doing just the opposite. You need to quit with the so-called “content moderation” and just let everybody talk about this. That’s because much of what we’re seeing really does NOT makes sense, just as it didn’t in 2020. All you’re doing, Google, is taking a side, and the side you’ve taken is likely the real source of the misinformation.

Anyway, I’ll quote an excerpt from this one paragraph, which touches on many issues we’ve talked about here:

Think of all the times in just the past few years you’ve been gaslighted. They lied to you about open borders…they lied about Hillary’s 30,000 deleted emails…they lied about spying on Trump…they lied about Russian Collusion…they lied about a perfectly fine Ukrainian phone call…they lied about massive Biden corruption in Ukraine and China… they lied about the Hunter Biden laptop…they lied about the origins of Covid…they lied about the need for lockdowns and masks…they lied about the need for Covid vaccines…they lied about the vaccines being “safe and effective”…”

It goes on. Congratulations, government! You’ve lied so much, you’re the reason we have so little confidence in what you say about the election. Why shouldn’t that be a lie, too? What’s to trust?

Root goes on to point out the huge disconnect between how people say they feel about the issues and the way they apparently voted. Because of all the government’s lies, it’s up to them to convince us that the results reflect the will of the voters. Just telling us we have to shut up and believe it doesn’t wash.

Pardon the cynicism, but millions of us feel just like Root when he says this:

“While also facing the worst economy in modern history…and the worst inflation in America’s history…and out of control crime…and open borders…and failing schools…and polls showing 75% of Americans believe the country is going in the wrong direction…Yet Biden beat all of that?

“If you believe Democrats made a miracle happen, without cheating, rigging and stealing…I have a bridge to sell you, over the Atlantic Ocean, in the Vegas desert.”

Root’s piece is a must-read. No matter how it is labeled, it’s not “misinformation” –- it’s one knowledgable person’s opinion, an opinion that millions of Americans share and have good reason to believe. The government, “colluding” closely with Big Tech as we now know, is working to silence this point of view. If our own commentary gets flagged, it’ll just prove my point.

Root goes on to show that, to his mind, the proof of a rigged election in a number of states simply comes from looking at Florida, which did it right. Florida has laws that discourage cheating: voter ID required, strict laws (prison time!) against voter fraud, no universal mail-in ballots sent out, no drop-boxes, no ballot harvesting, no ballots accepted days after Election Day, and “no counting for days until the desired results is achieved by the Democrat Party.”

Paul Simon wrote the song “50 Ways to Leave your Lover.” I’d say there might be 50 ways to rig an election. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. These don’t necessarily involve hacking voting machines –- although they could, as voting machines are demonstrably hackable. When the FBI hid the evidence of Hunter Biden’s highly incriminating laptop, assisted by 51 former intel officials who claimed the story had the “classic earmarks of Russian disinformation” (give me a break), it could be argued that that in itself was election-rigging. Similarly, when Democrats hid Pennsylvania Senator-elect John Fetterman’s cognitive issues by saying he was unimpaired and refusing to allow a debate until well after early voting had started, that was rigging an election, too. If they could be this dishonest, I don’t put anything past them.

And it’s not “conspiracy theory” to say so. Concerns about elections must be taken seriously. Whoever dismissively calls them "baseless" is the real threat to democracy.

Biden to extend COVID "health emergency"

Say, remember the COVID “health emergency”? It seems to pop up and then disappear again more often than Waldo. President Biden claimed it was over so he could remove restrictions on illegal immigrants pouring into the US. Then suddenly, it was back, so he could inappropriately claim forgiving student loan debt as a health emergency power. He said himself that it was over – and most of the public agrees, if you look at how few masks you see at crowded restaurants, sporting events and other places.

But wait! It’s back again! Biden now plans to extend his COVID health emergency power through April of 2023.

https://pjmedia.com/uncategorized/rick-moran/2022/11/12/biden-to-extend-covid-19-health-emergency-through-april-2023-n1645209

Even the Biden court jesters at “Saturday Night Live” are mocking the idea of COVID still being a health emergency.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPtH43VmvJI

The far more dangerous sickness now is the government’s addiction to unconstitutional powers. When do we get a vaccine for that?

Speaking of COVID, the last thing we need is more veiled attempts at exercising power thinly veiled as a “health emergency.”

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/benbartee/2022/11/11/survey-covid-19-lies-shattered-public-confidence-in-vaccines-n1645086

A survey in the UK by the University of Portsmouth found that because of the self-serving actions, misinformation and lies of government health authorities, nearly one in four respondents across all demographics now have less confidence in vaccines in general. That includes people who supported other vaccine campaigns in the past.

Thanks, Dr. “Science!”

Feel-good story

Happy birthday to Willard Harsh of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. During World War II, he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the China/India/Burma theater of operations as a tail gunner on a Consolidated B-24 “Liberator” four-engine heavy bomber…

https://www.ccenterdispatch.com/article_2e22e084-6127-11ed-be7d-c7b03773bd49.html

…And to Jay MaGee of Cincinnati, who fought Japanese forces in World War II. He enlisted as a gunner in a Marine machine gun platoon the day after Pearl Harbor.

Both of these American heroes celebrated their 99th birthdays on Veteran’s Day! I know you’ll all join me in sending a big salute and a sincere “Thank you for your service” to both of them.

At least one race I got right

My daughter Sarah won in a landslide to become the first ever woman to be Governor of Arkansas and mark the first time ever when a father/daughter both served a state as governor.  I’m so very proud of her, and believe that she will satisfy her supporters and surprise those who didn’t vote for her.  I thought I was a pretty effective Governor.  But I hope she is even better!

But, when I’m wrong, I try to admit it.  I WAS wrong about my view that there would be a huge red tsunami in the 2022 elections.  It was evident to me that since 70% of the American people thought we are on the wrong track, since most American families have been devastated by the highest inflation rate in 42 years, gasoline costs almost double from when Joe Biden took office, and with the cost of groceries skyrocketing, voters would say “Enough of this!” I also thought that the dramatic increase in violent crimes, illegal border crossings at over 5 million since Biden took office, and the deep decline of the value of people pension funds due to the downward spiral of the stock market, voters would figure it’s time for new and hopefully better ideas.  And with the Democrats pushing for wacko science that results in mutilation and chemical castration of children in the name of transgender “care” and pushing abortion of an unborn baby up until the very moment of birth, I truly believed that even long-time Democrats who aren’t crazy would decide that their party had embraced too many policies that were detrimental to their lives and families and would vote accordingly.

Clearly, I was wrong.  While Republicans will likely barely control the House, what was expected as a red wave became more of a pink trickle at best.

I’ve realized that most Americans get their news from social media and the mainstream media.   They are like a monolithic wall protecting Democrats and the most radical cultural views of our nation.  Many voters don’t watch or listen to conservative voices, and they are overwhelmed with the fake news that Republicans are a “threat to democracy.”  These are voters who are not aware or don’t care that the bureaucrats of the establishment of government—especially those at the top in the FBI and the Department of Justice are weaponizing their power to intimidate and aggressively and forcefully arrest 87 year old concentration camp survivors who are pro-life but do nothing to punish those who firebomb and vandalize Crisis Pregnancy Centers which provide real medical services and baby supplies to women and their children.

The problem with the less than stellar results of the midterm elections is not that the Democrats opposed our policies.  That’s what we can expect them to do.  But Republicans were facing a triple threat of the monolithic media, the bully bureaucracy of our own government, and the reliable partnership they had with the national Democrat party.  They preached that parents speaking out about the abuse of their children were domestic terrorists, and that parents who raised their children to believe in 2 genders of male or female were racist, fascist, homophone, transphobe or bigots.  And for some reason, they convinced voters that people who riot and burn their Democrat run cities are mostly peaceful protestors and we should de-fund the police because they are evil and that there is no real crime threat.

But this is not a time to give up.  It’s a time to fire up.  No room for a retreat—it’s time for renewal.  I would never suggest that we stop voting—I would urge that don’t stop caring and fighting against the evil policies that are destroying America and the hopes we have for our kids and grandkids.  Give up?  No way!  Gear up!  Speak up!  Sign up, and get up and join the fight for the soul of America.

Election Updates: Good and Bad

As we begin week two of reporting election results, I’m starting to feel like a blogger in a Third World banana republic.

The optimistic news first: With 218 seats needed to control the House, at this writing, Republicans have 212 to the Democrats’ 203. To get to 218, the GOP needs to win just six of the nine seats that lean or are likely GOP seats. The Democrats would have to win every remaining race where they have an advantage, plus all five “toss-up” races, and four of the GOP-favored races.

https://www.politico.com/2022-election/results/house/

Some extra good news: Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer has become the first Latina congresswoman from Oregon by beating seven-term incumbent Democrat Kurt Schrader.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/11/13/republican-lori-chavez-deremer-wins-oregon/

And an Arizona seat that was key for the Dems to flip to hold the House has been retained by Republican Rep. David Schweikert.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/leahbarkoukis/2022/11/14/huge-blow-to-dems-key-az-house-race-called-n2615915

NBC puts the chances of a Republican House at 99.5%. Of course, with ballots taking this long to count (some California races might take WEEKS!), I wouldn’t call it impossible for Democrats to miraculously overcome those odds.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/matt-margolis/2022/11/13/nbc-news-projects-house-majority-control-n1645409

So the hopeful news is that it looks good for the GOP retaking the House. Even if it’s by the slimmest margin, it should still block any more “Let’s give our socialist voters and donors 5 trillion bucks” bills. As I said before the election, we were never going to replace the crazy grandpa at the steering wheel; our best hope was to put someone next to him who could step on the brakes. And that looks doable.

Sadly, I do have to report that no matter what happens in the Georgia run-off, the Democrats will retain control of the Senate for another two years that will feel like ten.

https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2022/11/13/democrats-retain-senate-control-with-victory-in-nevada-by-cortez-masto-n1645388

With the Dems retaining their Senate seats in Arizona and Nevada (as usual, the heavy Dem vote came in from Las Vegas, where voters must love people who throw away money), they already have 50 seats plus Kamala Harris as a tie-breaker.

That means two more years not only of Chuck Schumer looking down his nose glasses at us as he lectures us condescendingly, but also of the Senate being able to confirm Biden’s horrific nominees and possibly do away with the filibuster. Fortunately, they will still have to overcome opposition on that from Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin, whom I would hope has learned his lesson by now about trusting the leftists running his party. If not, the knife sticking out of his back should serve as a constant reminder. If Republicans can win the Georgia run-off, at least Manchin will still be a swing vote, and hopefully, a once-bitten one.

If (God forbid) the Dems win in Georgia, that would be the opportune time for Manchin to switch parties, since he’ll no longer wield that power, and I can’t imagine Schumer treating him with anything but contempt if he doesn’t need him. He’s up for reelection in 2024, and voters in his very red state of West Virginia are enraged at him for letting himself be played, trading away his vote on a massive spending bill and getting nothing but empty promises in return from an Administration that openly seeks to destroy their main industry of coal. His best hope would be to run as a Republican, but Republicans are also furious at him, with several planning to challenge him and the GOP expected to put big bucks into flipping his seat in 2024.

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/3731740-republicans-eye-manchin-as-top-target-in-2024/

Also, more bad news: so far, the outstanding votes in Arizona are not coming in heavily Republican enough to help Kari Lake overcome her deficit to Katie Hobbs, one of the least impressive figures I’ve ever seen in politics. It’s looking depressingly likely that Arizonans will elect as their Governor the woman who refused even to debate, who thinks that not being able to get a late term abortion is a bigger problem than the open border, and who was so incompetent at her current job of running elections that she’s made the state a laughingstock. Could this be evidence that Arizona is suffering from Colorado Syndrome: too many Californians have moved there?

Because we all need a laugh on Mondays, especially this Monday, here’s the Babylon Bee’s take on Arizona’s election processes:

If some people on the left do not like Trump it is not because of his tweets obviously I mean after all they don't mind Biden's Nuremberg rally speeches that would warm the cockles of Hitler's heart. No it's because of what he stands and fights for. Well now if that's the case who would they like? They wouldn't be able to stand Ron DeSantis or any other MAGA person. So who do we vote for as our candidate? If it's one of the Rino or Establishment wimps we might as well pack in the party, send the elephant back to the Svelte and rest in our past victories and a history that has been Noble - and prepare to be the Underground Resistance.
