Today's Commentary --- Pelosi is back -- Answer to a reader comment on "Trump's Wall" -- Democrats introduce articles of impeachment -- "Russian collusion" -- Hating "Seinfeld" -- Worshiping Ginsburg -- Targeting snowflakes -- Priorities --- Evening Edition -- Daily Verse

You heard it here first (I predicted it with absolute certainty months ago): Nancy Pelosi has once again been elected Speaker of the House, to the surprise of absolutely nobody who knows how power works in Washington.  Forget all that righteous balloon juice from the Democratic freshmen, be they out-and-proud socialists or fake “moderate centrists.”  Like brash freshmen “revolutionaries” down through the ages, when it came time to show their bravado in front of the senior class, they wilted like week-old lettuce.

Only 15 Democrats voted against Pelosi.  Most were freshmen from swing districts who must have figured that breaking their campaign promises to oppose her would cause them more grief than crossing her – it probably wouldn’t, although I’m fairly sure she privately gave them her permission to publicly “oppose” her as part of the political game.  Even so, as if to make clear their lack of seriousness, some voted for “opponents” who aren’t even in the House, such as Joe Biden or Georgia Democratic gubernatorial sore loser, Stacey Abrams.  Three profiles in courage left their ballots blank and one failed to show up at all.

Answer to a reader comment on "Trump's Wall"

By Mike Huckabee

As you know, I welcome all points of view and am fine with being put in the “hot seat” to support my own.  So here’s a letter that came in Thursday from reader Pernell D. regarding my commentary on “Trump’s Wall.”

The money spent on something that is not needed and is impractical instead of solutions that are needed is a political farce. There are places that need a physical wall of some kind and the money should go to fix security infrastructure. This is not about border security, but is purely political. We need to enforce the visa laws and other effective solutions. Gangs, drug trafficking, isn't going to be fixed this way, remember, El Chapo. Plus, the Dems wanted to give Trump his money to appease him, but he refused because of DACA. Why doesn't Trump have the Russians pay for, they owe him that for betraying our country. I hope I hear the Dems say "Lock him up". Thanks, ex-Conservative Republican.

Thanks for writing, Pernell.  I don’t know what turned you into an ex-conservative, but if it’s mostly a matter of today’s political climate and Trump’s bombastic style, I hope you’ll re-thnk that at some point.

Democrats introduce articles of impeachment

By Mike Huckabee

As of Thursday, we once again have a Democrat majority House, and after promising voters to focus on improving the environment and helping Americans with issues like health care, the first thing they did was move to impeach President Trump.  It took California Rep. Brad Sherwood all of 30 minutes before he reintroduced the articles of impeachment that he introduced in 2017 but that went nowhere because back then, adults were in charge.  Also, because his move for impeachment was based on Trump having committed “high crimes and misdemeanors,” and he couldn’t name any then and still can’t – although now, the lack of grounds will be much less of an impediment.

Sherwood, however, seemed downright dignified compared to newly-elected first Muslim Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, who went before a crowd to crow about impeaching Trump and not only used one of the foulest profanities in existence, but did so in the context of quoting what she allegedly told her young son about the President. If she were a Republican, liberals would already be on the phone to Child Protective Services.

"Russian collusion"

By Mike Huckabee

As retired Army General and former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn awaits sentencing for lying to investigators, with his finances, career and reputation ruined, The Hill reporter John Solomon claims to have obtained the exculpatory evidence on “Russian collusion” that the intelligence community has kept hidden from the public and Congress for the past two years.

Even if you think you don’t want to hear another word about this story, you need to read this.  Every American should be outraged to learn of the yawning chasm between what the intelligence community knew to be true about Gen. Flynn on the so-called “Russian collusion” allegations and what they allowed the public to believe while they kept this information secret.

Hating "Seinfeld"

By Mike Huckabee

Under the ever-changing standard of what’s politically-correct, how many “Seinfeld” jokes does the leftwing feminist website Bustle say are no longer funny?  The official answer is “Thirteen,” but the real answer to every question about how many jokes leftwing feminists think are funny remains “None of them.”

Worshiping Ginsburg

By Mike Huckabee

First, there was the worshipful documentary about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and now, a new Hollywood drama lauds her as a feminist heroine. The Internet is filled with memes depicting her body-slamming President Trump, and liberals are snapping up trinkets such as keychains with her face on them.  If nothing else, it again points up how ridiculous was the claim by Chief Justice Roberts that there are no liberal or conservative judges.  Ginsburg has made her animus toward Trump well known, and liberals have turned her into a pop culture icon because they perceive her as being biased in their favor.

But before anyone gets too carried away elevating this one unelected judge into the savior of America, Daniel John Sobieski of The American Thinker offers a reality check filled with reminders of some of the wacky positions Justice Ginsburg has taken through the years, including endorsing basing rulings on foreign laws and courts instead of the US Constitution, lowering the age of consent to “less than 12” and making prisons co-ed to make it easier for inmates to adjust to life once they’re let out.  Somehow, I doubt any of that is in the movie.

Targeting snowflakes

By Mike Huckabee

The British Army has a new ad campaign for Millennial recruits that some say is insulting and condescending.  Others wonder if the Army really is desperate enough to be actively searching for snowflakes, binge gamers, selfie-takers and phone zombies.

I prefer the American Army recruitment posters that simply say “Uncle Sam wants you!” He’s pointing at everyone, but the Army can safely assume that phone zombies, binge gamers and selfie-takers won’t even notice the poster and snowflakes will be too offended by the toxic masculine title “Uncle” to join up.

By Mike Huckabee

While House Democrats would rather keep the government partially shut down than even talk to Trump about border security, they do have a spending bill ready to go that would not only give $5 million to the UN Population Fund, but repeal Trump’s order that US taxpayer money not be used to perform or promote abortions in other nations.

So just to be clear: it’s horrific and immoral for the government to separate a child from its mother, unless it’s paying to rip the child out of its mother’s womb, and then it’s okay?

A wrap-up of all the news you might have missed yesterday!

Daily Verse

"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord,
and whose hope the Lord is.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters,
and that spreadeth out her roots by the river,
and shall not see when heat cometh,
but her leaf shall be green;
and shall not be careful in the year of drought,
neither shall cease from yielding fruit."

– Jeremiah 17:7-8
