The House Republicans who until now headed committees whose investigations are now shut down will “not go gentle into that good night.”

Democrats made it clear well before Nancy Pelosi clutched the gavel that they would be terminating all non-Trump-related investigations, saying their only purpose was to deflect attention from the Mueller probe. (Have you noticed that EVERY perfectly legitimate attempt to look into what Democrats have done is called “an attempt to deflect attention from the Mueller probe”? That phrase must have tested off-the-chart in Democrat focus groups.) Knowing this would happen, outgoing Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia and Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina released a seven-page letter disclosing their findings regarding the “investigation” (ha) into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified material.

“We like ourselves, don’t we?”

By Mike Huckabee

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seems determined to prove that there really is no difference between a “Democratic” Socialist and just a plain old, run-of-the-mill socialist. After being in office for less than 48 hours, she began calling for a 70% top tax rate to pay for massive big government schemes like a “Green New Deal.”  She pointed out that we had such high rates in earlier decades – which is true, except she’s apparently way too young to remember that (A.) under the tax laws then, rich people used deductions, loopholes, tax shelters and other methods to avoid paying more than about 28% on average; and (B.) the Reagan boom that lasted for nearly 20 years proved, as did the Trump tax cut, that it’s far better for the economy and job creation to free up private capital for investment than to force people to sit on wealth to preserve it from the IRS. Wanting to return to the bad old days of punishing productivity with cripplingly high taxes is a prime example of Santayana's warning that those who can't remember the past are doomed to repeat it.

In the same interview, AOC also compared herself to FDR and Lincoln, again after serving for fewer than 48 hours in Congress.  To quote the Church Lady, an “SNL” character I’m pretty sure she’s also too young to remember, “We like ourselves, don’t we?”

Democrats introduce articles of impeachment

By Mike Huckabee

As of Thursday, we once again have a Democrat majority House, and after promising voters to focus on improving the environment and helping Americans with issues like health care, the first thing they did was move to impeach President Trump.  It took California Rep. Brad Sherwood all of 30 minutes before he reintroduced the articles of impeachment that he introduced in 2017 but that went nowhere because back then, adults were in charge.  Also, because his move for impeachment was based on Trump having committed “high crimes and misdemeanors,” and he couldn’t name any then and still can’t – although now, the lack of grounds will be much less of an impediment.

Sherwood, however, seemed downright dignified compared to newly-elected first Muslim Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, who went before a crowd to crow about impeaching Trump and not only used one of the foulest profanities in existence, but did so in the context of quoting what she allegedly told her young son about the President. If she were a Republican, liberals would already be on the phone to Child Protective Services.

Guns in Chicago

By Mike Huckabee

Edward Burke, one of Chicago’s most powerful Aldermen and a big cog in the local Democratic machine, has been hit with federal charges for allegedly trying to extort Burger King.  No, a Democratic Chicago Alderman being accused of corruption isn’t the newsworthy part, although the filing of actual federal charges is rarer than it probably should be.  No, the really interesting part is buried deeper in the story:

When the FBI raided Burke’s City Hall and ward offices, they found 23 guns.  As Emily Zenotti of the Daily Wire noted, “Burke was a key partner with Rahm Emanuel in expanding gun control in Chicago through the mayor’s ‘Safe Guns Policy.’”

How can any gun control law possibly keep guns out of the hands of known criminals if Chicago's Democratic Aldermen are still allowed to own them?

How refreshing: a no-nonsense approach to border security

By Mike Huckabee

Thanks so much for all the great responses to “Trump’s Wall:  So don’t call it Trump’s, and don’t call it a wall.”  My readers are obviously just as sick as I am of the semantic games being played by our duplicitous political class.  (And, yes, to answer one letter writer, I was very much aware of the alternate meaning of the bureaucratic doublespeak term “impenetrable fabrication”; we hear those every day in DC and will continue to hear many more, especially during the next couple of years.)

Many of you had recommendations for Trump, some of which he has tried, with certain mid-level courts stopping him by repeatedly overstepping their bounds and keeping his constitutional powers in highly unconstitutional check.  (It’s amazing how Trump’s opponents manage to find new and creative ways to keep him from simply doing his job as President.)  Coming as our President did from a background in real estate and construction, he likely never dreamed it would be so hard to construct a doggone wall.  You have a problem, you need a wall, you build it, right?  You get it designed, you get the money (a pittance when compared with the staggering federal budget), and you just build it.

President Trump's press conference

By Mike Huckabee

President Trump held a surprise press conference Friday to highlight the need for border security and Congressional Democrats’ preference to shut down the government rather than fund it.  When he could get a word in between the hostile reporters there to represent the Democrats, he introduced some people whose opinions on the need for stronger border security were a lot harder to heckle.

Note to Sen. Romney: This is what it looks like when a Republican fights back against his critics, taking the battle to their own turf of media optics, instead of rolling over and letting their version of events become the story.

Your Friday Fake News:

By Mike Huckabee

Liberal media outlets are spending a lot of time and energy slamming conservatives for allegedly bullying “Democratic” Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over a video of her dancing on a rooftop when she was a college student that appeared online.  But when Conservative Tribune tried to find all these alleged conservative meanies, they could come up with snarky comments from only two obscure Twitter accounts.  It appears that 99.99999999% of conservatives either never saw the video, saw it and didn’t think it worthy of comment, or more likely, figured there are far more pertinent things to criticize.

This created the unique situation of a gang of media liberals launching an unfair personal attack on conservatives for allegedly launching an unfair personal attack on a liberal that they didn’t really launch.

If liberal media figures are really that desperate to take the public’s attention away from the fantastic December jobs numbers, the Democrats shutting down the government rather than compromising to improve border security, and the newly-empowered House Democrats beclowning themselves with partisan hysteria, then I know a story they could cover about a bunch of nasty partisan hacks cruelly, unfairly and relentlessly attacking a woman in the most petty personal terms.  But since the woman is Melania Trump and they’re the nasty partisan hacks, I doubt they’d be interested.

By Mike Huckabee

While House Democrats would rather keep the government partially shut down than even talk to Trump about border security, they do have a spending bill ready to go that would not only give $5 million to the UN Population Fund, but repeal Trump’s order that US taxpayer money not be used to perform or promote abortions in other nations.

So just to be clear: it’s horrific and immoral for the government to separate a child from its mother, unless it’s paying to rip the child out of its mother’s womb, and then it’s okay?
